think the proprietary memory cards are what pushed people away more then anything. People already learned the scheme with the psp.Just made the price point way to high. Think modders are what helped keep interest in it for the later years to now. They truly helped showcase its true potential. ALlowed it to be able to operate like a switch with video output and controller support. Along with psp/ps1 backwards compatibility, emulation, better customization, overclocking, mod menus, and of course a better method for expanding memory.
they were my problem as well, they cost almost as much as a game! >.< was bloody ridiculous. so i stoped playing mine. but hey now you can jailbreak it and have as much space as you want. so im using it again as an emulation machine.
I always held out for cheaper storage. I believe that lead to low sales, which hindered the game library. I thought the library was strong at launch, and new projects died off due to low sales. If they used Micro SD or even Pro Duo, the Vita would've been a success.
Yeah stupid expensive memory cards, Sony not supporting it, some unnecessary touch screen controls, expensive games, no easy way to play the games on a tv. I still have my oled vita but man was it quite the disaster
the Vita came out at the wrong time, it had many features that were far too ambitious for the time. if a new variant were to come out today, with many refinements and additions to its original ideas, I'm confident it would be a hit.
@@Water_Fire444 I got a Ps Vita and a Switch Oled, I just prefer the sony interface with the trophies and more online gaming features like party chat. Also the design was way better than the Switch (outside and software-wise)
Vita was definitely ahead of its time, if the memory was included it would have done so much better. But now it’s also amazing that The switch Oled “deemed amazing” is what Vita put out to begin with. I would love to see another hand held from Sony. Let the games begin “again”
I just got a Vita, and it's genuinely one of my favorite consoles I own. Usually my travel kit is my Switch, my laptop, and my modded 3DS. I'm gonna add the Vita to that line up because it has SO many amazing games. LBPV, Minecraft, Undertale, Killzone. I'm loving this thing to DEATH. I'm not even into handheld gaming but PS Vita changed my mind and it still my most favorite. Still have launch model for 12 years and it still going strong despite being abused with countless drops poor storage and sweaty hands and humid pants pocket that eroded the silvery edges of it and analog sticks got chewed up by the sun but still doesn't drift, the screen has some bronzing going on but no burn-in. The battery still holds charge really well. I think what people love PS Vita is that it's still the only dedicated handheld gaming device under $350 that doesn't cut corners other than its memory card it came feature complete and future proof as proved by all the home brewers unlocking its potential. Switch OLED you feel like you need to add at least few accessories to make it feel more secure and complete and yet you still feel like it's going to fall apart, Joy Con effect, I guess. PS Vita just works brilliantly bone stock from day one no need to add anything extra other than obvious proprietary memory card as they designed ready to go through war and came back still looking better than most handheld PCs of today.
Excellent video! Your production quality and research is awesome! Earned a sub from someone who is considering buying a ps vita to get into the modding scene after recently homebrewing my 3ds. I never played psp or playstation 1 so all of those games would be a totally original experience for me.
Reason why I love the psvita was the fact you could pay and download the most classic ps1 games that made ps1 a world success. Mgs 1 Resident evil 2 Tekken 3 Tomb raider and others. Loved the idea that you could play Mgs 1 on a train journey or even in tent. Ps1 games looked great on psvita. It's amazing psvita was a great handheld that Sony didn't want after launch and killed it soon after. Glad I bought it on launch day and seeing it for the first time. Psvita is still worth buying in 2923 2024 because of those classic ps1 games!
If Sony did a follow up to the PlayStation Vita today, and made it very similar to the Nintendo switch in terms of it being able to hook to your TV as well as go in handheld mode with joy con style controllers that detached and reattached whenever you wanted, I believe it would be a smash hit success and would give Nintendo switch a run for its money, quite literally!!! When I first got a PlayStation vita I absolutely fell in love with the device! I had all the good games on it and some of which ended up being my favorites of all time like YS memory of Celcetta! I didn’t stop playing that game until I unlocked the platinum! Which took two play throughs, back to back
One of the biggest issues with the Official Vita Memory Cards other then the price. Was that they would randomly just loose all the data that was stored on it. The higher the capacity of the Memory Card the more likely it was to loose the data stored on it. Back when the Vita was new I imported the 64GB Memory Card. That card lost its data so many times. I still have the 64GB Card and mostly just use it to store PSP Games on it now. So glad we have the SD2VITA now so I never have to worry about data loss.
If you really want to find out about why the Vita evolved the way it did you should talk to Shahid Ahmad. He managed business development(broadly) for the Vita until 2015 and tried to refocus the Vita towards an indie game machine after it became clear that the budgets for AAA development on Vita weren't feasible and Sonys own studies would all work on Ps4 titles. I believe the the fact the Vita managed to be cherished by so many and remained somewhat relevant as long as it did is in a large part thanks to him. He also laid some of the groundwork for Sony's relationship and way of dealing with indie developers since then.
I totally agree! In the video description, there's a link to an IGN article that's part interview and part retrospective on his Indie push. Reading his perspective on the degree to which Sony stagnated with the Vita internally until he started reaching out to creators was fascinating. It makes me wonder how much smaller and less diverse the Vita's final library would be if he hadn't stepped up.
Still play Vita religiously to this day, best small form portable console ever, if you hack it it can play 10K+ games from PSP, PS Vita, NES, N64, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, PS1, Homebrew ports (grand theft auto san andreas) and so much more. Every week theres a new major PS Vita port from the homebrew community it seems. Also the japanese library of games with many english translation patches with a lot of games having naughty material not seen normally in the states is amazing.
Still have it, in perfect condition and use it few times a week. Also have PS5, Xbox series S, Switch, 3DS, wii-u, steam deck and gaming pc. I get something different from each one of those, but i also think, Vita is my favourite.
the vita 1000 oled is such a beautiful little handheld and it has aged really well in regards to now being a fantastic retro handheld. The vita oled is the one handheld i'll, without a shadow of a doubt, keep with me for my whole life. Any other handheld i've ever bought, has been sold on after some time
The Vita is pretty much like the GameCube, it didn't sell well, but years later it is a much beloved and appreciated console. In the early to mid 2010's it really seemed that handheld gaming was becoming a thing of the past, with most devices being niche products, the Vita not doing well at all and the 3DS not doing anywhere close as well as it's predacessor, but then in 2017 it all changed, Nintendo released the Switch, popularized the hybrid console, then Valve came along with the Steam Deck and now handheld gaming is the most competitive frontier in gaming today.
@@ericsparkman3645 there aren’t now on the vita I looked in the psone classics and there were literally 7 games, I don’t know if it’s different in the uk psn shop compared to other countries but I was shocked - I do remember at one point there was a whole a-z of ps1 games so I don’t know what is going on
@@therunawaykid6523 They were shutting down the vita store in 2021 but they kept it open due to high demand. I can see every ps1 game and I can still buy things so I’m not sure what your problem is, I’m in the Us so maybe the UK store is broken.
personally i prefer the vita much more compared to the 3ds. i bought my vita on release date and the new 3ds on release date too. but on my 3ds i just played monster hunter on it for 1 years and then i basically never used it again. but most of my favorite game of all time are on vita : wipeout 2048, uncharted, gravity rush, soul sacrifice, dragon's crown, persona 4 and some Atelier game. plus you also had your metal gear and god of war , sly cooper collection if you wanted to replay some great game from the ps2 era. also the Little big planet on Vita was arguably the best version ever, i still considered it to be the definitive version of LBB and the one that the dev wanted to make since the begginning. i never own a ps3 but playing uncharted, wipeout, killzone, LBB really make me feel like a played a portable PS3. plus with PSP title running natively on it, it meant that i could play more of my favorite video game like crisis core, dissidia, daxter, patapon and the monster hunter game. plus the feel and quality of the console was just awesome, honestly it was hard to play on the 3ds after that because of the plastic feeling and the low definition screen and even my switch lite feel really cheap in comparaison. also just a slight tangent but why is the touch screen of the switch never used, its such a waste. each time a play a new game i kept thinking that it could have some good touch screen implemantion but it never does ( aside from mario maker and rythm game, i never saw this feature being used) but on the vita there was an effort to use the touchscreen, backscreen and gyro capability. dragon's crown and tearaway for example always felt better on the vita because of that.
I played God of War 1 and 2, finished sly 1 and played 2 and 3, all on the vita. Never touched em on the ps2. It is amazing for that. I've got a steam deck, and selling it for a gpd win 4 (the vita successor we all needed), but I'm still carrying the vita. The ability to pick it up and just resume a game and its small perfect zie and design. I'd buy a new revision In a heartbeat
I love handhelds , the vita is my favourite and I own a 3ds and a steam deck , the vita is a true handheld console and Sonys treatment of it was disgusting, it still thrives today because of the modding community, we now have android games on vita , this could have happened while it was still alive
Yea I still have mines the biggest issue for me was the lack of games and that dumb memory card issue glad I bought mines from the pawnshop back then lol
I came across your video randomly after looking on how to stream my ps5 on my vita and I took the 16 minutes to watch this and I couldn’t agree more with you on everything. I believe if Sony would’ve came out a little less ambitious, I think the Vita would’ve became a very big thing.. but even then, it has come a long way now with all the homebrew options it has. Super easy to install games, mods, and more. I still wish I would’ve kept my original 1000 but I just recently bought myself a 2000 model, I might still get another 1000 and enjoy my gameboy/psp classic games I always love.
I got my Vita in 2012/13 and I still enjoy it regardless of the flaws, borderlands 2 my run like an elderly snail (along with the majority of its library) but I’m amazed they got that game on one of the vita cartridges in the first place. OG OLED model all the way.
I got a used Vita in early 2020, main two reasons were emulation and Project Diva, and well... It was worth it! Not perfect, but I was able to play PSP, PS1, SNES, WonderSwan Colour, PCE-CD, all full speed portably, and Diva was pretty fun too... But honestly? I question whether it's still worth it to get a Vita these days... Like, most of the library is available elsewhere, and probably in better shape too, and we got some pretty fantastic emulation handhelds that *Vastly* outdo the Vita's emulation performance for a decent price like the Retroid Pocket 3+ (minus the asinine placement of the Select and Start buttons) I'm not giving up my Vita, between it, and my old 3DS I can already play most stuff I'd wanna play portably anyway, but well... If I suddenly found myself with no handhelds, and was told to pick any one handheld, the Vita wouldn't be my first choice at this point... (Honestly, it'd probably be the New 3DS, I just love the 3DS too much lol)
I love the Vita. Those pricey memory cards were a huge blow, along with the rising mobile gaming market, and Sony bowing out of supporting making games from their own studios. Despite that, I love the system and bought one basically day 1. I STILL use it almost daily. That thing still works like a charm. I figured the battery would be a problem by now, but it is still working well. I haven't even hacked this particular one, so I have had plenty of fun with it as a stock device. Really love it and wish it lived on longer. Regardless, it lives on for me. ;-)
I love the vita it's my favourite console of all time, i have a steamdeck too to keep up with the new games, but vita has that mass anime/jrpg game library that i like so much, also the size it's so perfect and the design so mature that even now that iam older i can use it on public and not look akward holding something like the switch or the steamdeck
I just ordered my first vita last night... So excited to finally experience the system... Kind of wish I had gotten one a long time ago, but better late than never..
I agree with you on many points. - Sony did in fact cut the price of the console after a year or so, but they never cut the price of their proprietary memory card. What were they thinking? - Connected to the first point, why the heck did many games come out digital only in the NA region (physical on R3 region) when they were having issues of selling the memory card?? What kind of strategy is that?! - I remember so well when they announced that the Vita would focus on mobile game ports through their PS Mobile in 2015. But that thing went nowhere as a year later in 2016, they cancelled the PS Mobile. - That time frame in 2015-2016 when not much (to none at all) AAA games (even AA games) were being announced on the Vita had set the Vita on a heavy decline. I remember games being cancelled in those years as well. All I played on those years were SAO games and Lego games as I finished much of my library prior to that. (Just sharing, Tokyo Xanadu came out in 2017, one of the games I really enjoyed on the system.) - They also added that PS Now service, shutting it down three years later. Never managed to play anything there as it requires a certain internet speed for them to allow you to play.
It's a system I was obsessed with for a while. I have an OLED model and one of the last Japanese production runs of the slim model in blue. I also had 2 PSTVs, but I sold one as I didn't need it. Tbh I don't use them at all now. I sold all my games, never modded the systems, and they're just tucked away. I power them on and charge them every few months just to make sure everything is working, but I spend much more time playing the 3DS and the Switch. It was a great a piece of tech, but that premium feel meant that I was always worried I was going to end up damaging it! Anyway, this was a great video. Nice presentation, cool jazz in the background, clear a concise commentary. I'm subbing for more.
Great, great video! 🙏🏻 I loved so much the concept of the Vita that I bought the 1000 model with 3G compatibility and 64GB of Memory Card. And all the greatest triple A games that came out in the first years. Now I'm still loving it playing a lot of indie games with it. "Downwell", I'm loving that game on this console! And it's a game that I really recommend to anyone.
I remember a friend in school getting one. Had a psp but grew out of gaming by the time high school happened. I remember my friend showing me the vita and just remember dismissing it because I thought the name was stupid. Now that I’m more sentimental, I wish it succeeded and had a better follow up. I just got a vita a week ago. I think it’s a solid upgrade from the psp but this leaves a bit to be desired. I wish it had a cooler more ps4 like UI. I hate how you basically have to open and close apps twice.
2:45 I think the mobile game market was he one which made the biggest shift. They went from trying to cram PSP games onto phones and instead opted to be shallow cash grabs. Consoles like the 3ds and switch just stayed on the same path that handhelds have had for decades
Some of the AAA games that came out for the Vita gave a taste of just how much potential it had. Killzone: Mercenary. It runs on Killzone 3’s engine with very little cut corners, which is a late-era PS3 game. LittleBigPlanet, it had all the same features as LBP2 and looked virtually identical. Uncharted: Golden Abyss; while not very impressive in comparison to its older siblings on PS3, the fact that it was basically Uncharted 1 in handheld form was crazy. If AAA support had continued, I think we could’ve gotten some great games. Possibilities I can think of would be inFAMOUS, Gran Turismo, God of War, and Metal Gear.
The proprietary and expensive vita memory card, no push down thumbsticks for addional buttons, and the the touch sensor on the back was glitchy as hell was a no buy from me back in the day. I eventually bought the 3g model for $80 used on craigslist.. Many mods later, it's badass!!
Over the years , I played a large category of games on my Ps Vita like : Killzone Mercenary , Call Of Duty Declassified , Uncharted Golden Aybss , Little Big Planet 1 , Borderlands 2 , The Walking Dead Season One , The Walking Dead Season Two , The Wolf Among Us, Dragon Ball Battle Of Z , Ninjago Nindroids , Ninjago Shadow Of Ronin , Minecraft , God Of War Collection , Silent Hil Book Of Memories , Assassin's Creed Chronicles , Assassin's Creed Liberation , not to mention the Psp titles , it was a great honor to be a Ps Vita owner.
i want to believe that the vita did so bad but is so loved now is because around the time the vita came out everyone who appreciates it now was still young and couldn't get it for them self because lack of income. But now, being adults and having some form of income, we can now get the Vita that we loved so much.
its somewhat of a dreamcast situation, where the console was a failure, but the legacy lives on in the community. its the most successful way to fail. though id rather sony focus on steamdeck support than make another one.
@@EnaTenkiyoGamer who said i hated the vita? Also focusing on deck is what sony is already doing, so sony would be steamdeck fanboys if im following you correctly.
Both Vita and 3ds generation is extremely worth today. The modding scene had flourished, the consoles are backward compatible with previous gen, and mobile games now are free-to-play games and demanded internet connection at all time
It just have no games at that time. I remember buying the vita in 2012 I bought a Dynasty Warriors and Uncharted but once I've finished the games there are no games to buy I've waited months then Gravity Rush arrived and it was also amazing. When PS4 was released fewer games is being released to the vita and some games are canceled sony treated the vita as a accessory to the PS3 and PS4 thru remote play my vita became boring waiting for a good 1st party AAA games but nothing was released they are more focused on PS4. No exclusive games that is meant for the vita and only android games that is free on android and not on vita like Angry Birds, Joyride Jet pack, Plants vs Zombies and Indie Games and remakes and psp games like the vita has no longer identity. If vita could have released monster hunter, final fantasy, kingdom hearts, god of war, and GTA exclusive for vita version not a remaster or psp ported then it would've probably have good sales also poor marketing. Lack of exclusive games ended the vita.
I have a Vita ordered and shipping soon 🙂 I've completely missed the era of playstation games as I just grew up with the other consoles but I grew up being able to watch a bunch of them, I only used one once in a store demo so I am pretty stoked to play the huge library of amazing games :D I really wish there was a newer up to date model, would be really cool to see a modern day version with a similar OLED screen and battery life.
The Vita was okay, but it's high price, high priced memory cards, and poor ergonomics made it a hard sell. I bought one when the 2000 came out and the few titles that appealed to me worked fine but holding it longer than a few minutes without a grip case was difficult. I bought the PSTV as well and the PSTV could have helped Vita sales but Sony botched it by keeping the memory card price high and blacklisting most of the titles they produced for the handheld. If Sony does another handheld, please make it ergonomically usable. Some of the games my on Vita; Resistance (PSP), Resistance Burning Sky, Uncharted, Killzone Mercenaries, Telltales Walking Dead, and PSP Medal of Honor series.
Another thing that would have helped is some heavy hitters if I were person who was picking up handheld and looked at the 3ds and then the vita I'd get the 3ds because it has a lot more games that are heavy hitters, in comparison to vita which has more power but has less games and power means nothing if it has zero games, which is ironic the 3ds had less power yet has some pretty impressive titles like re revelations and ironfall (I think that's the name)
I hope one day Sony would revive the their portable console, I've just got Switch recently and the build quality never on the same boat as my old PSP. Buttons, triggers, analog Sony did a way better job in the past.
Terrible marketing tactics and overpriced storage were a major killer. It was better than the PSP in every way... aside from where it most mattered, in the software department. It's a very sad story but it's brilliant that the homebrew community has embraced it. I've just repurchased one after 8 odd years and love it more than my psp now!
The biggest problem of the vita in the U.S is nobody knew it existed. The ds always had ads playing on TV and websites. When the switch came out tons of ads on TH-cam.
Good video! I had one several years ago. Sold it (kick myself) but I got a deal on a psp. Love it, too, but don’t use it much. Would love to get another Vita.
Thanks for the simple thorough explanation on the controversy. I have a few vitas in my collection and wondered if modding any will be better then my steamdeck, also the small sdcards and games all need to be stored individually anyway if I had alot of games.
Given how quick and painless modding a Vita is (it takes less than 10 minutes these days), I'd say it's definitely worthwhile if you want to play Vita, PSP, or PS1 games. I find the Vita to beat out my Steam Deck for those three systems in particular. You'd just want to invest in an SD2Vita adapter ahead of time to get past the expensive proprietary cards.
@@ArielTst maybe you screen is bad . I have 2 oled vitas and have played countless times outside , or your expectations are too high for a 2011 handheld .

Gonna have to agree with the proprietary memory cards and also just being a victim of the right tech at the wrong time. I have several of them, 1000 and 2000 series, and I love them both, I think they are sadly underrated and most people have never heard of them when asked.
the online store is pretty bare these days. most of the games have been taken off and when I browse the psvita "all" section, most of the options are not accessible.
I wouldn't necessarily call it bare, tbh. Most of the games I randomly choose still seem to be available (especially games published by Sony). Having any links on a store that lead to nowhere is pretty weird though and not something I'd noticed before. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
@@GameXData it's when I clock on the alphabetically ordered section where some of them don't load and have a notice saying something about the connection being terminated but then other options do load
@rhydian8276 Oh, that's so weird. I'm not seeing those errors on my end, but certain games do give a "There are no content items" message when I tap through (e.g., Conception II, Farming Simulator 14). Do you have any examples of ones that aren't loading on your end? This all seems like something I should dig into a little bit deeper.
@@GameXData yeah so, for example, when I load up the store and click on 'ps vita games', most of the options on there come up with a notice "The connection to the server or device has been terminated". it's not any specific games it's just the a-z categories. also the 'top sellers' option does that too
@rhydian8276 That's even weirder. All sections of the store are loading fine for me at the moment...As a final follow-up question, are by chance you searching the store on a modded Vita outside the US? (Just trying to think of anything that might make the store display different results.)
The 2 reason vita failed: its a 3d system that's primarily used to play 2d games and obviously the overpriced proprietary memory cards. Great take on the vita.
vita is a classic device, its a time Capsule to all original previous consoles such as ps1, snes, psp, etc..people love it cause it's bring them back to a time when they nevered thought mk3 ultimate would ever be portable...I also feel the vita has history to us all(we all seened that "take me home " VITA commercial), from the psp to the vita builded up you cant denied its not history in the palm of your hand ...all the newer hand held just come out powerful. to me theres no history, no build up. what's fascinating is that it's still operational to this day and just as fun ...like compare it to any other old skool handheld..you just really can't.
I actually mentioned it a couple times in the video. There are also two shots I included of a Vita streaming Spider-Man and Persona 5 using Remote Play.
I love the PSP…. Vita now is gold. PSP had that Wolfson brand Audio DAC, same brand the iPod Video had. With decent headphones the music sounds exactly how I liked it, and it has a better display than the iPod Video. My iPod only beats my PSP in battery life.
I absolutely love the PlayStation vita!! Here are some games you should check out if you have never played them: YS Memories of Celcetta YS Lacramosa of Dana Persona4 Golden Need for Speed Most Wanted Killzone Mercenary Valkyrie Drive Bhikkhunni Tales of Hearts R Uncharted Golden Abyss Metal gear solid HD collection
The analog on the Vita is the only thing I can't get used to, its height and size are weird because I played PSP for like 2 years, and the analog on the psp is perfect for the hanheld. So I sold my vita for the N3DS.
Back touchpad should have been the sign that it was destined to fail. I own three Vitas (bought way later when they were cheap), and that back touchpad has literally no use. Also goes without saying the proprietary memory was a really really bad idea.
every one with vita should play soul sacrifice delta not just the best game on vita but the best game ever the game is so epic amazing story and gameplay its so addictive
for me best game that I've ever play was Persona 4 Golden, Trails Of Cold Steel 1 and 2, Ys memories Of Celceta, Ys Lacrimosa Of Dana, Tokyo Xanadu, Tales Of Hearts R and Exist Archives.
The Vita is awesome, has games and I play it tons more over the Wii U. I played it over the Switch until Tears of the Kingdom released because the Switch did not have any new games I wanted to play. Most of the games I like on the Switch are ports from Vita and Wii U or games I already have on PC. Recently I bought fire emblem engage and I like it but with the past fire emblem games I preferred just playing Shining Force 3 again. I also liked Octopath Traveler

Which took two play throughs, back to back
I'm still waiting on a psv go
One of the biggest issues with the Official Vita Memory Cards other then the price.

Love the Vita! I own 7 of them and still looking to buy more. 😅
Any other handheld i've ever bought, has been sold on after some time
Bought one for €55 last week
The Vita is pretty much like the GameCube, it didn't sell well, but years later it is a much beloved and appreciated console.
In the early to mid 2010's it really seemed that handheld gaming was becoming a thing of the past, with most devices being niche products, the Vita not doing well at all and the 3DS not doing anywhere close as well as it's predacessor, but then in 2017 it all changed, Nintendo released the Switch, popularized the hybrid console, then Valve came along with the Steam Deck and now handheld gaming is the most competitive frontier in gaming today.
Exactly! The people who owned those systems loved it and the people who didn't would never understand.
I still play my vita all the time, I love having all my favorite ps1 games that I grew up with right in my pocket.
Facts
I thought oh I’ll see what ps1 games are on the vita store and there……only 7??? Wtf happened there were loads at one point 😬😧😐
@@therunawaykid6523 There are tons of games for ps1, its the classics section
Thank you for sticking with the community!
Brand New Subscriber . I love playing my physical disk copy of ps1 road rash on my ps3 because of the increased frame rate
I just know I still have my vita and still love it❣️
This video was very detailed and informative… I bought a modded Vita second model yesterday. Ready to play. I’m very excited! I’ll have it this week!
This baby had OLED before OLED became a thing.
I still have mine and I love it!!!
Playing PSP games on the Vita is a joy. The right stick is great for FPS games.
Awesome video mate! Appreciate the hard work to dig deep and surface some cool information about the Vita. Subscribed 😀
Like, most of the library is available elsewhere, and probably in better shape too, and we got some pretty fantastic emulation handhelds that *Vastly* outdo the Vita's emulation performance for a decent price like the Retroid Pocket 3+ (minus the asinine placement of the Select and Start buttons)
I'm not giving up my Vita, between it, and my old 3DS I can already play most stuff I'd wanna play portably anyway, but well... If I suddenly found myself with no handhelds, and was told to pick any one handheld, the Vita wouldn't be my first choice at this point... (Honestly, it'd probably be the New 3DS, I just love the 3DS too much lol)
Too bad ps vita emulation isn’t there yet
I love the Vita. Those pricey memory cards were a huge blow, along with the rising mobile gaming market, and Sony bowing out of supporting making games from their own studios. Despite that, I love the system and bought one basically day 1. I STILL use it almost daily. That thing still works like a charm. I figured the battery would be a problem by now, but it is still working well. I haven't even hacked this particular one, so I have had plenty of fun with it as a stock device. Really love it and wish it lived on longer. Regardless, it lives on for me. ;-)
Vita means life!
9:45 how come they aren't available digitally if I literally play them on my phone with PPSSPP emulator :D
Yep, got the sliver phat one and the damn thing still looks like a work of art. It's just so pretty
As a trucker vita is what keeps my sanity. Even playing ps4 while on the road
(Just sharing, Tokyo Xanadu came out in 2017, one of the games I really enjoyed on the system.)
- They also added that PS Now service, shutting it down three years later. Never managed to play anything there as it requires a certain internet speed for them to allow you to play.
The Vita is so amazing. I use mine every day, it's a great console
If you are not into JRPG's the PSVITA is not for you. However if you love JRPG's like me it might be one of the best consoles ever
Amazing Video Keep Them Coming!
Love my vita. Still holds up!
2:45 I think the mobile game market was he one which made the biggest shift. They went from trying to cram PSP games onto phones and instead opted to be shallow cash grabs. Consoles like the 3ds and switch just stayed on the same path that handhelds have had for decades
Not only the Vita pioneered on remoteplay but it's to this day the ONLY viable game streaming service!
For the PlayStation only?
Not really, xbox and Nvidia have pretty awesome game streaming services
Metal railing? Its all plastic... Still, its a great handheld console
W
What game is that at 15:08?
Guacamelee! I highly recommend it.
what is the game at 11:55
its somewhat of a dreamcast situation, where the console was a failure, but the legacy lives on in the community.
its the most successful way to fail.
though id rather sony focus on steamdeck support than make another one.
@@EnaTenkiyoGamer what?
@@EnaTenkiyoGamer who said i hated the vita?

@@PSPortalShitpostingAntiSwitch i know you're probably a troll, but if they actually did do that, id be sick.
15:20 What game is that?
Guacamelee! It's an excellent and stylish action game that I couldn't recommend enough.
5:15 find one thats had a lot of use now and look at how burnt the screen is xD
I have a Vita ordered and shipping soon 🙂 I've completely missed the era of playstation games as I just grew up with the other consoles but I grew up being able to watch a bunch of them, I only used one once in a store demo so I am pretty stoked to play the huge library of amazing games :D I really wish there was a newer up to date model, would be really cool to see a modern day version with a similar OLED screen and battery life.
I recommend little big planet psvita
@@shotgun_daddy-1089 Ooh little big planet? That sounds fun :D thank you!
I don't why people liked the Vita. It had a shit library of games. 32985 JRPG's is not my idea of a console.
What's the game at 15:10?
Guacamelee!
11:32 Is that PS5 remote play?
No, it's PS4 Remote Play. The PS Vita can't officially remote play from a PS5.
@@GameXDatastay salty about the project q which will outlive the Nintendo switch fat hispanic man hahaha 😂😂😂😂
Pricy outside US.if I remembered it cost RM2000 plus back in the day.
1000 like, congrats
People love Life, and Vita means Life
I love the Vita, own both models, but it’s a case study in how a product can be both awesome and shitty simultaneously.
The reason is memory cards prices .
The best real handheld, that you can actually go on street with till date
Except that it's terrible to play outside. I have an oled vita, and you can't see a thing when playing outside. Sadly, it's literally impossible.

Sony killed it with their memory cards point blank end of story.
the online store is pretty bare these days. most of the games have been taken off and when I browse the psvita "all" section, most of the options are not accessible.
I like to get 3ds to play Zelda & Pokemon games. But my 10 yr old vita is life #1
very informative content
Good video
I played it once of a friend and damn, great console.
The 2 reason vita failed: its a 3d system that's primarily used to play 2d games and obviously the overpriced proprietary memory cards.
Great take on the vita.
Currently playing Ys 8 on my vita. Having a blast!!!
vita is a classic device, its a time Capsule to all original previous consoles such as ps1, snes, psp, etc..people love it cause it's bring them back to a time when they nevered thought mk3 ultimate would ever be portable...I also feel the vita has history to us all(we all seened that "take me home " VITA commercial), from the psp to the vita builded up you cant denied its not history in the palm of your hand ...all the newer hand held just come out powerful. to me theres no history, no build up. what's fascinating is that it's still operational to this day and just as fun ...like compare it to any other old skool handheld..you just really can't.
Ps vita > Nintendo switch
Btw I wonder why u didnt mention remote play for ps4 ,you couldn’t stream ps4 games on the internet miles away from home
I actually mentioned it a couple times in the video. There are also two shots I included of a Vita streaming Spider-Man and Persona 5 using Remote Play.
@@GameXData didn’t see sorry but cool
I love the PSP…. Vita now is gold.
PSP had that Wolfson brand Audio DAC, same brand the iPod Video had. With decent headphones the music sounds exactly how I liked it, and it has a better display than the iPod Video. My iPod only beats my PSP in battery life.
I absolutely love the PlayStation vita!! Here are some games you should check out if you have never played them:
YS Memories of Celcetta
YS Lacramosa of Dana
Persona4 Golden
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Killzone Mercenary
Valkyrie Drive Bhikkhunni
Tales of Hearts R
Uncharted Golden Abyss
Metal gear solid HD collection
The analog on the Vita is the only thing I can't get used to, its height and size are weird because I played PSP for like 2 years, and the analog on the psp is perfect for the hanheld. So I sold my vita for the N3DS.
Just bought me vita from Japan. Can't wait
3:27 thats why vita 2 is never happening because they flopped with the phone business
Back touchpad should have been the sign that it was destined to fail.
I own three Vitas (bought way later when they were cheap), and that back touchpad has literally no use.
Also goes without saying the proprietary memory was a really really bad idea.
every one with vita should play soul sacrifice delta not just the best game on vita but the best game ever the game is so epic amazing story and gameplay its so addictive
for me best game that I've ever play was Persona 4 Golden, Trails Of Cold Steel 1 and 2, Ys memories Of Celceta, Ys Lacrimosa Of Dana, Tokyo Xanadu, Tales Of Hearts R and Exist Archives.
it wasnt respected as much until you could jailbreak it that opened a world of possibility
