I saw him in 85. Now that I think about it, that has to go down in history as one of the most epic things any 15-year-old in any century could have done. 😀

If you all have not listened to it, there is an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on TH-cam where Stevie was the speaker and I think it was recorded just a few months before he died. He never mentions playing guitar or being famous, it’s just pure humility. When he left us, we lost a really great human being.

    • @SouthernArtist77

I have watched it and his life story told by people who knew him best. I saw him after 1986 so he was sober then and sounding even better so I hear.

Yes, I've got all 4 parts of his AA speeches and he tells a lot about himself. All SRV fans should try to take time to listen to this amazing man.

That's alright - we who didn't know him personally shouldn't pretend to do. What we so know is what great musician he was. That is beyond doubt and that's what he gave to us.

I had no idea there was a recorded AA mtng w/Stevie speaking. Thank you. I''ll find it. I, too, got clean&sober in AA...and after a long relapse I just couldn't go back to the AA with mr christian god....but then right away I found Atheist Agnostic AA in Seattle. Hot Damn !

Stevie and his music was a huge part of my support system when I got sober. 4 years since my last drink. It's crazy to miss someone who died when I wasn't even alive, but I cannot wait to introduce my hero to my kids when they're old enough.

When Bob Segar wrote “when the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play” he was talking about SRV only what poured out of him was something spiritual, it was the souls of all the great blues people who came before him. He helped them back, the ones he could, he was just a wonderful person and so humble.

Can't believe I missed this when it was being streamed.
    Bandmaster head.
    4x12 Bassman cab.
2 Alder Strats. Clear finishes on both (bought at Black Market Music, SF)
    Cry Baby wah.
    Tube Screamer - original.
    11-58 hybrid gauge Fender strings.
    That was the rig.
Thanks so much for this Michael.

He is a freak in that he can play fast but still be clean as a whistle and expressive at the same time. Wish I had been old enough to watch him play live. What a guy.

      @lindanoel1853 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, not to criticize your comment, but I so often hear/read people say insane, freaky, how does he do that, etc. BUT I never hear/read that people know/understand that this is what hard work, practice practice practice what you love creates and how he began so very young.. His mom said he'd fall asleep with the guitar in his arms...

    • @adamlong4843

@@lindanoel1853 lots of players practice. They don't all pull it off as smoothly as SRV. I don't think for one minute he fell out of his mum and bought a guitar and this happened. 😂

Stevie blows my mind EVERY time I see or hear him play,,,without a doubt my absolute favorite!!! So much feel and emotion!! But,,,,to have to back him every night when at any moment he’ll break into an crazy improv run or rhythm shows just how incredibly underrated Double Trouble (Chris, Tommy and a little later that year Reese) were as a rhythm section and a band!!! Focused on the song, the groove and giving Stevie all the room he wants,,to be SRV! All of these guys are top notch performers and just an amazingly tight band!! Crazy!! All 4 of them!! Plus,,the pipe is bad ass!!

Do you think they knew how good their gear was? It's amazing how the goats set the standard so high for tone so long ago. They still to this day are trying to make it better than gear used to be, yet serious tone searchers will still look to old gear before new gear for what they want. Crazy. We can record better now but you'll never find a new guitar that will beat a pre 80's fender. I give credit and technology is great now but its 50 years later to loop back to this quality.

I saw SRV live back in 87’ he opened up for Robert Plant and his band. I’m a huge Zeppelin fan, so it was really to see Robert with SRV the added bonus. I knew who SRV was before I went to the show. The studio albums were great and all but SRV live?? No contest lol. SRV stole the night, period. Robert could of sang for 4 hours or more, SRV melted faces that night. SRV was fantastic and always will be with his music.

Actually, I was watching SRV at this place
    he is a legend
And I was able to go to Amagasaki for the final additional performance of Jeff Beck's Japan Tour 2017, which was the last performance in Japan.
I've seen many artists so far, but these two were exceptional.

When I was first learning how to play in the '90s, I felt I was good enough to try an open blues jam in town. So I went and signed up on the legal pad, not being a regular, I had to wait until almost midnight for my turn. There were two guys in front of me. The first one got up and I was relieved that he wasn't any better than me. THEN the next guy got up. He was dressed in black...a longrider coat, bolo hat like SRV, beat up strat, etc. He PLAYED like Stevie, he SANG like Stevie, and the place went crazy. Usually you play 2, maybe 3 song, by his 5th song, they wouldn't let him off the stage. I got up, crossed my name off the list, and went home, never to return. I ended up putting my guitar in its case where it remained for 18 years until I got the bug again. That bastard. 😁

And one day the FBI showed up and interviewed me. Well it turns out the drummer in the band I rented to was involved with stealing Stevie Ray's truck from the Albany Airport! I had no clue? But I wish I had!! Anyway they confiscated all the Bands equipment and I never heard from them again!!
