My drummer found out after a lot of years that SRV's bass player, Tommy Shannon, is his father! Tommy came to San Diego one weekend and showed up at one of our gigs. Being a bass player myself and also being from Texas, I had to get his auto graph on my bass. Talked with him for a long time, and will always remember that night. RIP & God Bless Stevie...
Thank you so very much for the tour of his grave, and the crash site. One of my favorite songs of his was also Tightrope. I had no idea that he had real struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, until last night, I watched a documentary on Prime. Now the song is even more adored because of it's true meaning. Honeybee, Look At Little Sister, along with his entire music library, are all timeless. The man KNEW how to ROCK those Blues. Rest In Peace, Master of Shredding.
Very common peaceful there. I believe he said 24 hours before that he dreamed that he was at his own funeral and it was peaceful. That was a beautiful tribute. What a beautiful resting place and. There's space for his brother beside him.
Thanks Scott, I was lucky to see Stevie Ray Vaughan on August 24 1990 at the Kalamazoo County Fair in Kalamazoo Michigan, I was 14 at the time a Night I will never forget.
You are right. He played on 13's. His fingers were so calloused and black. He said that one of the callouses fell off while playing and he had a hole in his finger so that's how thick the callouses were. Pretty amazing.
Scott, I am so touched by your thoughtfulness. I had never seen a picture of Stevie Ray's resting place. I can't thank you enough for thinking of me and I will never forget it. It reminds me of why I was drawn to your videos in the first place. You do your homework, your quick wit is a delight and it makes for an interesting video even if it is someone I'm not so familiar with, you make it interesting. I'm so glad to see your subscribers count going up and I believe that will continue to be the case with all the quality videos you offer. "Life Without You" (the quote on his stone is from that song I love the song & it is special because he takes his time toward the end of the song to talk to the audience about how we need to help each other through our ups and downs and to lend a hand to a brother or sister in need. He would end it by asking "So are you with me on that?" He was eight years old when he started playing his brother Jimmy's guitar. His brother would always tell him to leave the guitar alone and as soon as the coast was clear, he started learning his craft He wasn't supposed to be on that helicopter. One of Eric Clapton's people had way too much stuff to haul and it made the load too heavy so he was out and Stevie, being anxious to get to Chicago and then to NY to his beautiful fiancee, he grabbed the seat to arrive early. This was the happiest time in Stevie's life after achieving sobriety and his beautiful fiancee. I remember that day all too well. I hope this video gets a lot of SRV viewers to become subscribers. Anyone watching Scott on Tape videos on a regular basis could really help Scott out by becoming a member of his Patreon. One less Starbucks coffee a month could be a contribution. All the traveling to make his great videos costs plenty so if you enjoy them I hope you might consider helping out in Patreon for the "travel fund" coffee can. Much love, Scott - you have a heart of gold.
Musician John Mayer said the reason why he never touched drugs or alcohol is because of SRV. Stevie is his idol. So great he can have that influence all these years later....
A little eerie that he passed on his dads anniversary. What a beautiful resting place. I was born the same year as Stevie . It’s hard to believe he’d be 67 this year. Gone too soon. . I love his music . He was an Amazing artist. TFS
Thanks Scott for taking us to his grave.I still listen to his music an felt he was taken from us way too young.Maybe God has him singing somewhere special in Heaven.Be safe on the road.
Thank you so much for this video at SRV's gravesite - Born and raised here in Dallas as Stevie was, and I FINALLY rode out to his gravesite this year - I know he isn't there only his body but to be that close to him and his family was truly a bucket list moment - They say Hendrix was the greatest...well along with millions others, we say Hendrix was an innovator....and SRV was the Master - Just listen to Hendrix's Voodoo Chile and Stevie's VooDoo Chile - No comparison...Keep up the great work Sir.
Great tribute! SRV a supreme legendary guitarist. He played with an endless amount of heart, soul and human conviction. Again, thanks for the tour and the world will never forget Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble.
I loved Stevie Ray...one of the best..I got to see him in concert not too long before he died..miss him...addiction is really hard to overcome..i was an alcoholic for a long time..been sober now for 20 years and became a sponsor for a friend of mine in Canada to help him thru his addiction..Thank you again Scott...
I got to see him in Australia in 85 i think it was. It was incredible! I think he was leaving a gig in Aspen, Eric Clapton, Buddy guy and a few others were on the agenda. Eric Clapton offered SRV his seat on the chopper and said he would wait for the next one. Live at the El Macombo is a great concert as well as Austin city limits. Riviera paradise would be one of my most loved SRV tunes. I heard the news of his passing in 1990 as I was getting ready for work and we were devastated. Thanks Scott this was great!
Thank you for that. . I won tickets to see him and go to A back stage meet and greet. A few years before her was taken from everyone too soon . Steve was the most incredible garter player I have seen live . And I have seen them some best of they live in my life time. I shook his hand and Thank him for the show and I express to he That he is. A amazing talented player and that nite was an experience I would Remember for the rest of my life . HE GAVE A HUGE SMILE, THANK FOR BEING AT THE SHOW, SHOKE MY HAND . I ASKED YOU DOING OK ? HE SAID, ONE DAY AT TIME MY FRIEND . TAPED MY SHOULDER AND WALKED A WAY . RIP STEVE.
Oh wow, Scott, thank you for this.💜 I’ve been a huge fan of Stevie’s for several decades now - love his music - but more than that I adore the beautiful, passionate human being that he was. I found it very appropriate that the trinket on his grave when you visited said “Love”, if I could sum up Stevie in one word that would be it. He was all heart - in his music, in the way he conducted himself in life, in the way he treated people. I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about him, he’s always spoken about with utter respect. And he earned it. I believe his addictions came about in an effort to cover up some mental pain he needed to overcome from his childhood. And he did just that, he overcame that pain & also his addictions, powerfully. I’m glad he & his brother Jimmie, who he loved dearly, were able to record their album ‘Family Style’ before he passed. So grateful to know that when he left us he was clean, at his most successful in his career, happy in a loving relationship, spending time on tour with his brother & other musicians that he loved & respected. Again, thank you for this, it’s very touching - & thank you also to Verna, for requesting this coverage of Stevie. It’s beautifully done.
It does look very peaceful there. May we all one day find peace. Great job Scott and good for you Verna...hope all finds you well where ever you are.....
I saw Stevie in concerts in Dallas and Cincinnati, O. during the eighties. He signed a poster for me during his Live Alive tour which I still have hanging in my office. He will never be equaled!
Stevie played w many well known musicians..B.B. King was just one, I remember hearing of his passing on the hwy w my kids in the car,who all play guitar, we cryed & cryed & cryed. My kids were 4, 6, 8 & 10..I know exactally where we were on the hwy when we heard. I had every CD that Stevie had out, had a huge stero w 4ft speakers (4) ,and would blast stevie's music in the morning to wake em up for school..gifted,awesome musician, that my boys & I love deeply to this day. They're now 34, 36, 38, 40 & when they know they've made me mad, they'll go get their guitar & bust out a Stevie Ray Vaughan toon, they always know I cant stay mad at em after that & we always bust up laughing
I absolutely remember the first time I heard Texas flood for the first time, it was raining in Astoria Oregon the sky was crying, it changed my life I had to know this vodoo child on guitar because he was playing it like he was tearing down the county jail rest peacefully SRV you are not forgotten
Thanks for doing one on Stevie. Just like so many others, he was my hero as well. The reason I love the blues, and play guitar to this day. He was my first concert, Greg Allman opened for him at the Mann Music center in Philly, 6-20-1987. Somehow, my dad actually found the audio so I have the show, which is amazing. So grateful to have experienced him! Wish he was still here, but I guess we can't be greedy. I always like to think, with the way it happened, one second he was in the helicopter, the next he was sitting back next to Albert King, with that big happy grin on his face, playing the blues...
Well Scott you did it again another great video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 what can I say about Stevie Ray Vaughan he kicked ass on playing the guitar all his songs kicked ass it's hard to pick my favorite song they're all my favorite keep up the great work Scott 👍👍👍👍👍👍 And R.I.P Stevie Ray Vaughan and peace out Scott 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Was lucky enough to see SRV twice. The second time his brother opened up for him and they played together on stage. I was at the Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago on that Monday night as SRV, Eric Clapton and Robert Cray were all going to go after the Alpine Valley Show. At the club just told us that they show is not going to happen due to an accident. They did not say what happened exactly, Then at work on the radio we heard what happened. Sad day for sure. Thanks for doing this video. SRV always in our hearts.
Hi Scott. I remember that horrible night, I live about 15 miles from the crash site. I did not go to that concert, because I did not know Stevie Ray Vaughan at that time. I found out about it the next morning, it was all over the news. Very sad. One of my friend from work said he was at that concert that night and heard about the crash as he told me the next morning. I could not believe it. We talked about it all day. It was a very sad day for both of us, and I didn't even know the band. The place that it happened is called Alpine Valley in Walworth county. They have a marker on the ski hill where it all took place. I would like to do a video on it but i'm not that good at explaining things like they really need to be told. If you ever come to Wisconsin, look me up and I will take you to the crash site. I just have a tiny channel of 2000 subs is all. My videos only gets 100 views in a two or three week period of time. I don't have a brand for my channel. I found out after being with TH-cam for 9 years I never had a brand name. I can only use two names on my channel. I tried to rename my channel to James Sween Adventures, and nine years ago I thought i did the right thing by calling my cannel by my real name. So now with this virus hitting, I'm just stopping. All my videos are out side. I most of the time show visiting Wisconsin and some other things on learning videos. I just started watching your channel. I can't stop watching. I must have seen 60 videos of yours in the last week. You are so nice. I like the way you talk. You tell it on the fly just like I do, and sometimes it is hard to get the words out. I do it all the time. I suck at it, but my followers seem to like me. I don't have trolls so far. But I don't get many views like you do. But keep up the fine job your doing. I really enjoy watching. I don't comment much. This comment is for all your great videos. You take care now, and God bless. Right now this country needs many prayers.
He should be #1 on the greatest guitarists list because no one can ever touch him or his talent. He is so far ahead of every other guitarist, both as a musician and a human being.
Thank you Scott for finally doing a piece on STEVIE RAY. I was a huge metal fan and a big time lover of the drums. My cousin called me back in 1990 and said he had an extra ticket to see this incredible guitar player that's touring with Jeff Beck, and that he was a blues player but also did Hendrix covers. I was like, sure cuz, I'll ask my wife when she gets back. Well needless to say she wasn't going to let me come to the show and the rest is history.. But about a few months later, my cousin (he's like my brother, that's how close we are) calls me and says hey Doug you just have to come over and watch this new dvd I got of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I still didn't really know much of him, BUT when the DVD started it was a live show in a small club in Canada and the first songs started I instantly was floored. Awe-struck and amazed! From that night forward I had forgotten about the drums and was out in music stores looking for guitars. And have been playing guitar ever since.. I don't wanna bore you with more, I just wanted to express my gratitude for your video and time you took to do this one. I enjoy your videos and some day if you're in the eastern Ohio, northern panhandle of West Virginia, I'd like to meet you and talk to you, you're doing a good thing here and I appreciate it. I also loved the piece you did on Dimebag. He was my second favorite guitarist and I loved Pantera. Can you possibly go back and do a video on Vinnie Paul? Again, thank you and kudos brother, be safe and keep the vids coming!
That will be the " Live at the El Mocambo" mate, that must have been something else to have been in that club coz that is the best live show i have ever watched, unbelievable.
RIP!!! Gone too soon!! He seemed like a great guy!! Great video my friend!! Love you and your channel!! God bless!! He was a great musician!! ❤️❤️💕💕💜💜💙💙🙏🙏💖💖💖😢😢😢✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
I love , LOvE SRV, I own all his CDs a have a poster on my wall of him, I own a fender because of him he was the best! No one played like him ! Not even since his passing! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 hard to believe it will be 30 yrs this aug. 27th he left this earth
Love Stevie ray big influence to me being a guitar player great video. First song I ever heard was pride and joy. Great song. another good one is crossfire. thanks for the videos Scott and as always safe travels when you can get back to traveling. Stay safe friend and God bless always.
Awesome video Scott... I found it very comforting and also so peaceful... You are very respectful and that is greatly appreciated. Just finished visiting Stevie's first and only wife, Lenora, "Lenny" Bailey - Vaughan's obituary, written up by her daughter from two years ago... of her passing Summer of 2018... That was a difficult read, but I'd like to think they all are in peace & together... Stevie Ray left a lot of friends behind and lately they have been passing, one by one... It's heartbreaking. Thanks again for the respect with this video... it was really great... xx
I have been laurel land myself just to see his grave. The next time he was coming to Austin I had planned to go and see him. I was devastated when he died. Still listen to him.
I remember the funeral when he died! It was huge and the procession stretched for quite a long way. I was in Texas at the time! My wife, I and the kids moved from Corpus Christi in 93 to Tennessee!
Thanks for the information on him being a addict.i had no idea.but it shows the kind of person he was that he overcame his addiction and was helping others that have one.iam a alcoholic and will be forever.knowing there are people like him out there makes things easier.ill try to help more people overcome theirs now
I saw him 3 years before his heartbreaking tragic death, seeing him perform changed my life. He had the ability to draw you in & keep you there, it was mind blowing.
I remember reading Kenny Wayne Shepherd met him when he was 13 and it had an enormous impact on him, just gave him this huge inspiration and it propelled Kenny's playing from that point onwards.
Awesome Stuff Bro! SRV is Forever! Tightrope and Texas Flood are my Favorites. So it was cool to know Tightrope was one of yours 🤘🤘 It's kind of cool how I truly found Stevie Ray Vaughan's Music. A good Friend of mine gave me a stack of random CDs and, of course, I went thru finding new music and stuff that I currently listened to as well but I came across a SRV Double Trouble Greatest Hits CD. I knew Pride and Joy and heard it a few times growing up but i had never really ventured into SRVs Music. Well I was blown away and quickly started finding all I could on this Genius. Just a random stack of Flea Market CDs changed my life Forever lol 🤘
Stevie Ray Vaughn was an amazing guitar player, all around musician and taken from us all way too soon, like Jimi Hendrix, I love your videos man, keep it up
Thank you for doing this video Scott.. SRV was one of my top 5 favorite guitarists of all time.. His version of Little Wing... And the song, The Sky is Crying..... RIP.. SRV.
One of the most underrated guitarist he was a madman with strings. Every guitar player looks up to srv
Love the vid. GOD BLESS
Respect for mentioning the drug use, he spent the last years of his life spreading the message about drug addiction!
Srv pulled strings so thick, that few can play them. A beast on guitar
You are right. He played on 13's. His fingers were so calloused and black. He said that one of the callouses fell off while playing and he had a hole in his finger so that's how thick the callouses were. Pretty amazing.
Gone too soon
Loved loved loved his music. No other!
He would end it by asking "So are you with me on that?"
He was eight years old when he started playing his brother Jimmy's guitar.
A stellar musician, but an even more stellar human being. He's getting people clean 30 years later. God bless him.
He was an awesome talent and an awesome human being
Musician John Mayer said the reason why he never touched drugs or alcohol is because of SRV. Stevie is his idol. So great he can have that influence all these years later....

Stevie Ray Vaughan was AMAZING!!! I am a huge fan of his. Scott you did another Great video. 👏🏼👍👏🏼

Thank you so much for this!! I still love my Stevie Ray and I get sad sometimes when I think how much more he would have done. Lost way too soon.🌷
Stevie is the GOAT 🐐
I love Stevie Ray Vaughan. Thanks for the awsome video. love and light xx
You’re so welcome
Thanks for the information on him being a addict.i had no idea.but it shows the kind of person he was that he overcame his addiction and was helping others that have one.iam a alcoholic and will be forever.knowing there are people like him out there makes things easier.ill try to help more people overcome theirs now
Stay strong Jim
Austin City Limits.....he was amazing! There used to be tons of guitar picks on his memorial.
SRV one of my favorite guitarist my favorite song is Rivera Paradise great song for the times you're alone with that special someone.
Another great story Man!
I love that you did this for Verna. Great video!!
Stevie Ray Vaughn was an amazing guitar player, all around musician and taken from us all way too soon, like Jimi Hendrix, I love your videos man, keep it up
I was just there today. My family is from Oak Cliff also & my grandpa is just a few hundred yards away from Stevie.
Beautiful and touching video.
I’ve noticed SRV always has fresh flowers at the gravesite. I wonder who maintains it so well.
Probably family I would think
@@SCOTTONTAPE someone maintains it beautifully.
Laurel Land grounds keeping crew.
Thank you.
There is only one Stevie Ray Vaughn. Saddest part is that his life was moving forward more than ever
