My wife and I did this , twice, lived in a trailer both times. We're not off grid but close. Northern California) it's been well over 20 yrs and still together ;-) yup I got a good one. In her mid sixties and still gets hit on. Gotta love it.

I always enjoy telling people that my dad built all 3 of the houses we have lived in. The last one was finished when I was 5. But I remember the process even at that age. I really envy my dad's hard work and mom was there every step of the way making sure he had what he needed to keep moving.

Yeah how lucky they are two be 30 mins away from the closest gas station and 3 hours from the closest supermarket. I never see the point of living in a vast area with hundreds of acres of land in between you and your neighbors
I love the fact that in some shots, where it is safe, the kids are being allowed to help, even if it is just pulling a tape measure. There are few things like working together to bring people close. Even when they are not helping witnessing this will teach them life lessons that will help them forever. Great work by everybody concerned and a fine example to set for your kids and your viewers. Lol I did something similar with my husband while pregnant twice over a 5 year period. It wasn't too fulfilling in the end. Lots of exhausted days and we missed so much of our kids life because we worked everyday all day for years. We ended up selling our homestead to live in a smaller home/property and give more time to our kids and their sports etc. It seems great until the kids get older and want to be with their friends and have hobbies etc. And you're in the middle of no where lol

This video comes up on my list every so often. Sometimes I watch it again, sometimes I just skip over it. Every time I do watch it, like today, the same thought always comes to me. How much of this does Ellie actually remember and how much does the massive number of video hours that you’ve accumulated create for her completely new sort of second hand memories? She’d be a great subject of an interview with Mom and Dad acting as interviewers.
That brings back memories for sure. All by myself, building 3200 sq ft. of house for my family of 5. I had no help whatsoever, I dug the full foundation hole by hand with a pick and shovel, framed my forms , mixed the concrete by hand, framed ,roofed and sided the entire house myself. Plumbing, electrical all alone. I worked 3 yrs. and 7 months before we could move in. I was working a full time job so all of the work was done after working all day. Most of it was done with a generator and at night and weekends. Boy when your young you can do whatever you put your mind to doing. Now that I’m an old man I can’t even believe that I had the energy to work that hard. Watching you progress makes me see myself when I was young and able. So ENJOY BEING A YOUNG FAMILY, time flies by so quickly and before you know it, your old and too tired to go to the mailbox. You kids did a great job and you did it all by yourselves!! Be proud!! I sure was proud when I accomplished it. God bless your family and your home. ✌🏻❤️🇺🇸

Congrats!! I just started watching through your videos and I'm inspired to build a similar A Frame but don't know where to start. Your videos have been a massive help and I was wondering if you would be able to create a cost analysis video to help people like me. I'm so excited to start building, but I want to have an Idea of cost for things like timber, rental of the equipment to build the stilts, metal sheet roofing, ect... Something about this speaks deeply to me. I think this is how we are supposed to live our lives. Beautiful. I am glad someone was able to do this for real. There may yet be hope for the human race. Those kids are learning the best lessons they will ever learn. Just beautiful.
I appreciate the sentiment, but remember that there is no way the world could support ALL of us building our homes on such a large piece of land, or all of us tapping into ground water, or all of us having our own little farm... There is too much land on earth that is just "UNINHABITABLE" for people without ROBUST heating, electrical and plumbing systems. And than there is the issue of healthcare, police enforcement and fire safety. Its a nice dream but thats as far as it goes, if you actually attempted this at a mass scale you would have, unfortunately, plenty of uncontrolled criminals, too many losses of life due to a lack of health care etc. Lets not forget the enormous amount of costs associated with building a home like this... They purchased already mixed concrete to be poured, Did they mix it themselves for their main support pillars? Nope. All the lumber they used, both pressure treated and regular studs. Did they Treat those Long pieces of Pressure treated wood themselves with the chemicals necessary to hold off mold and decay from moisture? Nope!. DId they fabricate all their wood studs? Nope!, Did they fabricate all that insulation they used? Nope!, Did they fabricate those water pipes? Electrical wire? Solar Panels? Ladders? Screws? Drills? Heavy Machinery? Nope!. This is not so much a success story of people getting back to nature, as much as 2 very talented individuals who are dedicated to living their dream and putting in the work to build their own home with all the commercially created materials our society has created due to the lives they want to escape (The 9-5). I am impressed at their construction knowledge and their planning, but don't forget what this is, its our Commercially successful society that made this possible, if you want it BACK to the way it was supposed to be, than dig a hole and sleep in it bro. USING YOUR HANDS. Sorry if I misinterpreted your comment but you make it sound like they were returning to the ways of nature but really it just looks like an elaborately long home depot/ lowes commercial.. DIY project!
@@rmyd027 Agree with you partially and disagree. I form Europe and there we have something called Villages and Cities. The Cities are just like North American cities but Villages are something you have never seen and cannot find in Canada or the USA Our Villages have from 3500 people to just 120 people and the entire country has 2 types of lives. So if you live in the city for the weekends you go to the village or you can just live in the village and travel to the city to work. Again I am telling you you have no such live in North America This type of living is absolutely possible the lands are not that big but around half an acre and the village is made of brick houses and most people have plenty of livestock and they basically support themselves with that. Life is hard because you have to take care of your job and at the same time look after your animals. So it is possible so far in Europe but in the USA and Canada not so much Travel to Europe and see it for yourself We are 4 th generation in the same house with almost 1-acre land with 100 pigs,2 cows chickens and so on. Most of the Europeans have that type of life. When I moved to the USA I expected to see the same thing but never saw such villages and type of living only city living and your so-called country living has nothing to do with the old European living Just travel to Europe and you will understand and get the point but I agree with you in North America it will not be possible due to much many reasons.

What a wonderful way to have morning coffee here on the east coast. You two work so well together, its a pleasure to watch your videos. Its funny that I feel like I know you just watching your story. I feel the same with a few others I follow on TH-cam. Being retired from construction, I am always amazed at new building techniques. It kind of keeps me in the loop a little. Loved the design, the execution, and the general working concept of the homestead. But let’s face it, with a most talented and hardworking wife like that you don’t need a construction crew. A true partner in every sense of the word; a rarity in this day and age - congrats, you won the lottery when you married that lady. Watching her tackle everything head on; from childcare, to construction, to homestead chores, and most likely beyond, is absolutely impressive. Dreams could only be built on the foundations of treasures that one is already blessed with.

I always enjoy telling people that my dad built all 3 of the houses we have lived in. The last one was finished when I was 5. But I remember the process even at that age. I really envy my dad's hard work and mom was there every step of the way making sure he had what he needed to keep moving.

I love the fact that in some shots, where it is safe, the kids are being allowed to help, even if it is just pulling a tape measure. There are few things like working together to bring people close. Lol I did something similar with my husband while pregnant twice over a 5 year period. It wasn't too fulfilling in the end. Lots of exhausted days and we missed so much of our kids life because we worked everyday all day for years. We ended up selling our homestead to live in a smaller home/property and give more time to our kids and their sports etc. It seems great until the kids get older and want to be with their friends and have hobbies etc. And you're in the middle of no where lol

That brings back memories for sure. All by myself, building 3200 sq ft. of house for my family of 5. I had no help whatsoever, I dug the full foundation hole by hand with a pick and shovel, framed my forms , mixed the concrete by hand, framed ,roofed and sided the entire house myself. Plumbing, electrical all alone. I worked 3 yrs. and 7 months before we could move in. I was working a full time job so all of the work was done after working all day. Most of it was done with a generator and at night and weekends. Boy when your young you can do whatever you put your mind to doing. Now that I’m an old man I can’t even believe that I had the energy to work that hard.
Watching you progress makes me see myself when I was young and able. So ENJOY BEING A YOUNG FAMILY, time flies by so quickly and before you know it, your old and too tired to go to the mailbox. You kids did a great job and you did it all by yourselves!! Be proud!!
I sure was proud when I accomplished it.

Something about this speaks deeply to me. I think this is how we are supposed to live our lives. Beautiful. I am glad someone was able to do this for real. There may yet be hope for the human race. Those kids are learning the best lessons they will ever learn. Just beautiful.
I appreciate the sentiment, but remember that there is no way the world could support ALL of us building our homes on such a large piece of land, or all of us tapping into ground water, or all of us having our own little farm... There is too much land on earth that is just "UNINHABITABLE" for people without ROBUST heating, electrical and plumbing systems. And than there is the issue of healthcare, police enforcement and fire safety. Its a nice dream but thats as far as it goes, if you actually attempted this at a mass scale you would have, unfortunately, plenty of uncontrolled criminals, too many losses of life due to a lack of health care etc. Lets not forget the enormous amount of costs associated with building a home like this... They purchased already mixed concrete to be poured, Did they mix it themselves for their main support pillars? Nope. All the lumber they used, both pressure treated and regular studs. Did they Treat those Long pieces of Pressure treated wood themselves with the chemicals necessary to hold off mold and decay from moisture? Nope!. DId they fabricate all their wood studs? Nope!, Did they fabricate all that insulation they used? Nope!, Did they fabricate those water pipes? Electrical wire? Solar Panels? Ladders? Screws? Drills? Heavy Machinery? Nope!.
This is not so much a success story of people getting back to nature, as much as 2 very talented individuals who are dedicated to living their dream and putting in the work to build their own home with all the commercially created materials our society has created due to the lives they want to escape (The 9-5). I am impressed at their construction knowledge and their planning, but don't forget what this is, its our Commercially successful society that made this possible, if you want it BACK to the way it was supposed to be, than dig a hole and sleep in it bro. USING YOUR HANDS.

I form Europe and there we have something called Villages and Cities. The Cities are just like North American cities but Villages are something you have never seen and cannot find in Canada or the USA
Our Villages have from 3500 people to just 120 people and the entire country has 2 types of lives. So if you live in the city for the weekends you go to the village or you can just live in the village and travel to the city to work. Again I am telling you you have no such live in North America
This type of living is absolutely possible the lands are not that big but around half an acre and the village is made of brick houses and most people have plenty of livestock and they basically support themselves with that.
Life is hard because you have to take care of your job and at the same time look after your animals.
So it is possible so far in Europe but in the USA and Canada not so much

We are 4 th generation in the same house with almost 1-acre land with 100 pigs,2 cows chickens and so on. Most of the Europeans have that type of life.
When I moved to the USA I expected to see the same thing but never saw such villages and type of living only city living and your so-called country living has nothing to do with the old European living

@Stanislav ну ты прямо Америку открыл, таким заявлением. Понятное дело, что постройка такого дома стоит денег. Только инструмент будет работать только у того, у кого руки растут из правильного места. К тому же я в своей жизни, а мне 65 лет, не встречал женщин, которые так же, как героиня этого ролика, управляются с инструментом.

@@asmal832-hi в советское время, пол страны выросло на стройках, нормальных, здоровых, рукастых людей! А сейчас многие "тепличные" подростки, гвоздя забить не в состоянии
@@Александр-б2ш8б какой тепличный будет ребёнок, если его бревном сплющит. Вон, она с переносной бревно кладет, там ребёнку годик-полтора. Он и руку или ногу может подсунуть куда и на неё что упасть может. И раньше люди в пещерах жили, это не значит, что оно хорошо.

I don't agree with you that it is implied that she is strong for being a woman but her work is weak for a man, which is what I was saying in essence. If she were a man her work would be substandard in the construction field. People want to say men and women are physically equal for all jobs and they certainly are not. Why I made that post, I can't remember but maybe I just read a goofy article with women trying out for special forces and I was on that kick that day. Take care.
TheCrackupboom at what point did you see her work? All we were able to see is 2 people working and an unfinished outcome. Which looked great. But the fact that you’re calling it her work, even though they both did it, proves that you have a problem with women.
And How is it not implied that SHE is a woman? lol again, no one in their right mind would compare the strength of a woman to a man. Perhaps that’s why there are men’s sports and women’s sports 🙃. Men and women have totally different bone density, structure, muscle mass, body fat percentages, etc. So that is why most men are stronger than most women. Not because of laziness or incompetence. Genetics.

Loved the design, the execution, and the general working concept of the homestead. But let’s face it, with a most talented and hardworking wife like that you don’t need a construction crew. A true partner in every sense of the word; a rarity in this day and age - congrats, you won the lottery when you married that lady. Watching her tackle everything head on; from childcare, to construction, to homestead chores, and most likely beyond, is absolutely impressive. Dreams could only be built on the foundations of treasures that one is already blessed with.
