  • Here are 10 fundamental precepts, or rules, to live by as an auto detailer. Is it that serious? No, but Nick and Yvan live and breathe this stuff...so it IS a topic they're very passionate about. Disagree with one of their "Commandments?" What would you add?

    The 11th commandment of detailing: Thou shalt stretch before, during and after detailing to stay limber... if your body locks up after detailing you did not stretch enough!

    I did enjoy this video and all of the advice is first class. Thankfully Yvan has not seen me on a ladder trying to polish the roof of a tall truck with one foot of clearance between the roof and garage door. Albeit you will quickly learn how to polish with one hand. You guys make truly world class products and thank you!

    In addition to working with a certain method: after every detailing job I clean all the bottles, polishers etc. But most important I clean the brushes and the mouth-pieces of the vacuum cleaner.

    Missed the live so thanks for pushing it out quickly. The sun is my enemy for my mobile detailing services, I need shade for the vehicle and MYSELF. So I drag along mine or schedule for the shade time. And the note about black cars is perfect, I did a paint enhancement on an older Mustang and it looked great, a week later I notice the car in the noon sunlight and the swirls were everywhere on the hood. It was still looking better but was not trying for perfection so in this case the sunlight was just rude.

    Another point of working in the sun is YOU. Growing up on the water in coastal Virginia and spending many years at race tracks with all that sun has been detrimental. I've been fighting skin cancer for 30-plus years. Thankfully, none of the areas have been melanoma, only basal cell and Squamous cell. Still, not something I want to be dealing with. So if you're mobile, please take precautions when in the sun.

    There have been days where it’s 100 degrees and humid as hell but the car needs to be cleaned. Let me tell you first hand, it’s not fun. In the winter, in freezing weather, I’ve washed a car and sudsed it up only for the ground to freeze up into an ice rink in minutes. Worst experience of my life haha.
    I think the last one should be respect the weather, not just the sun. Cheers guys

    HELP for a newer DIY guy like me, I can use some help to find a way to enjoy washing my Truck and wife's car. I am 60 years old and we live in central Texas. It's very hard to enjoy washing when I have to hussle too much and really need to find a process for Rinseless or regular foam/ bucket wash method that will be easy and not to strenuous.
    I have a garage with concrete floors and no drain, but not enough light (fluorescents) and barely any room for washing my new F150 truck with 5 year coating on it. I am looking to get get LED lights to help as the sun is always way to much to wash outside in summer. I have tried to schedule my outside maintenance washes around 7am, but my truck is metallic black. I do prefer to Rinseless wash when I can, and I use all your products! In Rinseless wash, I try to wash one panel at a time, and have to use the decontamination towel for the bugs that are plenty on my grill, hood, windshield etc.
    With Rinseless method, I start on the roof with my IK sprayer, but the Rinseless falls down the sides and front and back and dries on fast (not sure if this matters when I have to wash the other panels also in the sun), then I move to the hood and front, then to the bed of the truck which has a sliding cover on it, and finally go around the truck one panel at a time clockwise.
    Do you have suggestions to help make this not so much a chore and make it easier? I do have deionized water tanks that I use when I have to do the Foam, rinse, foam and contact wash which seems to help, but still feel like I have to Hussle so much. Please suggest any method that you would use for either Rinseless or Foam/ regular washing. I do not use the two bucket method, I have all the other products like, All Clean, Incredible suds, Rinseless wash, iron remover, water spot remover, interior cleaner, DIY glass cleaner, Ceramic Gloss, Quick Beads, and legacy sponges, also have DIY Twist fluffy mits, MJJC Form cannon, Ryobi 1800 psi pressure washer, DIY grit guards, Gauntlet medium drying towels (4) and assorted microfiber towels. 2 IK pump sprayers, one for form (for all clean) and one for spray on Rinseless.
    Thanks, you guys are awesome, love ALL the products and educational video's on TH-cam!! :)

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, good choice of colour, the F150 always looks great in Tuxedo Black.
      With Rinseless Wash, drying on the surface isn’t a big concern. As you are doing now, start at the top and work your way down, don’t worry about the sides when you’re doing the roof or hood, when you start cleaning the sides that will take care of the drips.
      This video may help

    Not a “commandment” but would you guys be able to do a video on polishing single stage paint if for example you are bringing a classic car back to life? Would DIY Detail products be suitable? I read somewhere that you should use any water if possible so only to waterless washes (due to increased rust risk!) but would love generally to hear your thoughts on single stage paint maintenance etc - thanks!

    That's truth about using too much products. I had to learn the hard way years ago. Far too often, we somehow think "more is better". Its something people over use when it comes to shampoo. I've seen people on youtube use 1/3 of a 64 ounce bottle of soap for car shampoo on 1 car

  • @Noooname2024
    @Noooname2024 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know it is not about your products guys but some brand requires to use Lot of contration of shampoos for a gallon of water.
    For example you have 1 liter of shampoo.
    And you have to use like 2 OZ😀 big bottle doesn't Last long.

    I know in the past the thought was to throw away towels used with ceramic coating because of crystallization. I see many coatings now that don't seem to crystallize, so do you still have to throw away the towels?

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’ve never had to throw towels out, that’s just bad advice that’s been perpetuated over the years. As soon as your done coating, soak your applicator and leveling towel in your wash bucket for at least 15 minutes, then rinse and launder as normal.

    As far as lights go. I've found some Polisher accessories. I found them looking for Pet hair removers in the form of Buff Bright. Awesome hair remover by the way. But they have lights that connect to your Polisher. Like really bright lights. Do you happen to know about them? if so, thoughts? Good, bad, give it a shot? Hey Nick and Yvan. I cannot remember the email address to send in questions, but please can you cover my question in a future video?
    I'd like to know a fast method of removing debris from a microfiber towel if you drop it on the floor. They gather lots of pine tree needles, seeds, grass etc. I know you can manually sit there and pluck each bit of debris out but this takes FOREVER. I guess i could just throw away these towels but that seems rather wastefull and some of the microfiber towels such as the Rag company ones are very expensive. A quick method to get save this towels would be great! I'm sure Yvan has some tips and tricks from his 40+ years in the industry.
    Thanks and keep up the great content

      I simply wash the dropped towels in a washtub by hand and rinse any particles out. Inspect the towel well before adding it to your other towels for washing. Any doubt, downgrade to the towel to interior or tire use only.
