  • He is widely considered the most influential street skater in the history of the sport, being credited for inventing numerous tricks, including the kickflip, heelflip, impossible, and 360-flip. As a result, he has been called the "Godfather of Street Skateboarding." Mullen also introduced two newly invented tricks in Questionable, the kickflip underflip and the Casper slide.

He never wanted the spotlight. He just wanted to skate. I heard a interview with him and he said when freestyle became obsolete and he had to move into street skating he had to figure out how to pull off tricks while skating straight. Everything he had done to that point was done basically in a foot area. Of course he pulled it off! He's Rodney Mullen.

It will be my favorite idol forever! All Brazilian skaters love Rodney Müllen. Here in Brazil, he is called GOD OF SKATE. 18 years ago I was 10 years old. Every day at 4pm I went to the lan house to watch Rodney Müllen's videos. At 5 pm I went out to skate. I kept this routine until I was 25 years old. The only thing that changed was the way of watching the videos. I did this every day, for 15 years. 15 years watching the same videos and training the same tricks. My biggest dream is to meet the God of Skate, but I have no money to travel.

    FUN FACT
When Rodney was very young, he pioneered a trick that involved an ollie, followed by a toe flick which rotated the board on its axis by 360 degrees. He named it the "kickflip".
Since then, the vast majority of his tricks have been named by other people, because a single human simply cannot name tricks as quickly as he invents them. To Rodney himself, most of his tricks are still called "y'know, like, it goes like this, and then does a one of these type things...".

One thing that is so underrated about Rodney’s skating and all of the bones brigade skaters is their style. Other skaters that I’ve seen do insane stuff in many ways just felt like stunts or tricks vs art. Mullen, Hawk, McGill, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero all had style. Stacey Parelta making The Bones Brigade and caring about those dudes is one of the best team leader, coach, mentor, manager, company co owner stories there will ever be.
