      Americans like to see people do well and succeed. They don't have the 'Tall Poppy Syndrome' issue we have in Australia where people are negative towards people who standout from the crowd and do well. We ridicule American society, but they absolutely do many things very right.

    I really wish one of the networks would pick up the super car series and show it here in the states. Do your magic Dale, make it happen.

    • @HumbertoSaabedra
      @HumbertoSaabedra ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They already have a paid streaming service for the US called Supercars Superview, easier than waiting on a TV network to pick up rights.

    • @MonstaAU
      @MonstaAU ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Unfortunately streaming won't do it. You need to put the series in front of eyeballs before people even know it is there. You don't get that until it's on a major network.
      I believe that the Americans would certainly get it. We've had all these other cars in Australia which most Americans have no idea about which really were the genesis of the format we have today, but the racing is world class. It really is 'Circuit & Street NASCAR' now, mainly as we do not have the history or culture that spawned the oval tracks.
      While we on the outside of the US have always seen audiences there to be very parochial and only really caring about their own series, there seems to have been a shift in the last 12 months or so. F1 coming to LV, the Le Mans experiment which seems to have captured the attention in the US, and now SVG winning bringing attention to Supercars. And I have to say to my American friends, I am impressed with all you guys for taking a wider international view.
      I dream of the day where we can have Supercars running a couple of races per year in the US and we get to see the NASCAR guys down here. Even having a half/half field with some additional parity rule changes to get them even closer, and then let 10-13 of each category on the track together. That would be epic.

    • @HumbertoSaabedra
      @HumbertoSaabedra ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@MonstaAU you've got this all backwards and I'll explain why. In 2014 Supercars was all set to expand internationally and wanted a US race to show off the series.
      Turns out that the series can't add international drivers and races without the national sanctioning body losing the rights to control the series.
      This is because Supercars falls under the jurisdiction of the FIA for the rules package they use, but because the series limits itself to Australia and New Zealand, the Australian sanctioning body CAMS keeps control of the series, including broadcasting rights.
      The series doesn't have to sell broadcast rights outside of Australia, they're doing just fine for themselves.
      They offer Superview as a service to make up for the lack of international broadcast rights and no overseas races.
      You're under the impression that they need US TV to be relevant, when they're already relevant to anyone that pays attention to racing outside of the NASCAR bubble.

      100% agreed , I think it's safe to say there is a deep mutual respect between most of the drivers of each category.
      Shane has an ability to learn and adapt to a new car very quickly. Add to that , the similarities of the cars and the street circuit , I think most Aussie supercars fans knew this was a very likely outcome.

    A small fact that everyone has missed is that just a week earlier, SVG walked into a (new to him) team, borrowed a few mechanics, and tweaked their work experience car, that was previously set up for a completely different race and driver, into a race winner. We can argue about how much better as a driver he may have been on race day, but considering what he achieved with the car in just that single week preceding is exceptional.

    Hell he stopped his car mid race to help a driver out of their rolled car, he was interviewed in New Zealand and was asked why he was being so dominant in the championship and he straight up said “because Scott Mclaughlin left for indy” he knew his greatest threat had left and left the gate open for him to dominate and literally told it how it was.

    Congrats to you guys and your channel, from the guy who actually created the business plan and tech set up for what became V8 SUPERCARS in Oz in the early 1990's. Actually, while I was putting together the rules and regs, as well as how the parity within the category was going to be policed, I happened to be in the US ( marketing an electrical item I designed primarily for the marine market, funnily enough ) and while staying with a Kiwi ( ex part time racer ) friend of mine who, at the time was working for Bobby Rahal's ( Miller Brewing ) Indycar team, in Indianapolis, he organized for me to meet the Indianapolis circuit PR manager, and as luck had it, as well as being given an opportunity to race, well, more like drive a 'boat' of a two door caddy, at speed, around the circuit, I was granted an opportunity to meet with some of the heads of NASCAR, as they were turning up at the circuit the very next day ... investigating if NASCARs could actually race on the Indy track. Hopefully you guys will recall that time. Well, my point being, I was able to learn much from the NASCAR team, and their graciousness in offering me some very sage advice and ideas, very much assisted me in creating the basis for what became V8 SUPERCARS. Also, right from the start, it was always my intention to have a great deal of 'cross-pollenization' ... once a year, the two top NASCAR drivers would race at our BATHURST and once a year our two top V8 SUPERCAR drivers would compete in a DAYTONA 500, or the like. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in achieving this, but, now that the racing public has had a renewed experience as to how competitive our 'down under' drivers are, maybe, my 1990's plan could be resurrected ... what do you guys think? As for SVGs performance, YES, you're right, our V8 SUPERCARS are very similar to your NASCARs ... that was my original intention, but I'd also like to highlight a couple of other things ... SVG IS A DAMN GOOD DRIVER. But more than that, he is one of those drivers that can pretty much drive, then master, any type of car ... he's just a 'freak'. But, another reason SVG , well, not quite dominated, but won, was that ALL our ( V8 SUPERCAR ) races are on road courses, or street courses ... that is our specialty. I have no doubt that if your NASCAR drivers put a few thousand racing miles in the rear view mirrors, they would be a lot better at that style of racing. I'd still love to complete my ( 1990s ) mission and have more of your drivers come to race in Oz, as would our drivers benefit from racing in the States. Maybe you could let me know if my idea sounds interesting to you guys, and the racing public. I'd love to hear the general opinion of you guys and your subs. Peter M from Oz.

    I was impressed with SVG's clean passing. When Austin Dillion was in 2nd place, you could see all he was trying to do was get to 31's bumper so Dillion could spin him out.

    • @VKZ24
      @VKZ24 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed 100%. SVG never used the bumper. The last few laps he was 1.5 seconds faster than the 2nd and 3rd place cars. He was reported to be braking 100 deeper into every corner. The man has some serious talent. I agree with Dale Dr. that at Watkins Glen where the Cup guys have experience, he'd have to work harder, but he could absolutely still get it done. True the Cup guys had zero experience at the Chicago Street Course, but let's be fair, neither did SVG!

    Lovely humble interview much respect to DEJr from NZ racing fans. Love Nascar. Surprising that V8 Supercar series is not widely know about or watched in the US. SVG is a champion driver and a top bloke. Thing that sets him apart is he is fearless behind the wheel. His aggressive racing style is what sets him apart. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't he gets beaten by a better overall and more technical driver ie Scott McLaughlin. Looking forward to see him race oval tracks.

      He should. It was in a race winning car, in a car designed based off of the cars he race, on a track type he's ridiculously experienced in, when the cup guys never have been there. It's a testament to the cup guys that he didn't win by 10 seconds.
      He wasn't going to do this at Watkins Glen, Sonoma, etc

    You nailed it in regards to the level playing field, we weren't super shocked at the result here in Aus. You could even say Shane actually had an advantage given his experience with street circuits and the cars being so similar. I think in that trim the cup car had a bit over 500hp which would of been a little more manageable than a supercar on that track which only has one engine spec of a bit over 600hp.
    None of us think Nascar drivers aren't good drivers or even that Shane is a god amongst men or anything. My first reaction was "Let's see him in an oval race before we got to excited"

    Jr has economical interest in nascar so he will never criticise anything nascar. That’s why it was fresh to get objectivity from Chase and Kyle. First SVG was driving on the opposite side of the road. The Aero and downforce is different in both series . He had far less sim time than the cup guys where they have driven the Chicago street course for over 2 years. He just give them an ass whooping plain and simple. He was 1.2s a lap faster and passed the most cars that’s embarrassing for the cup guys.

    • @isthatrubble
      @isthatrubble ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm pretty sure they were saying that the simulator was wrong about the difficulty of some of the corners and things like that, so you can't just call the simulator access a straight up advantage.
      edit: if anything, it was probably an advantage for him that the simulator everyone else had been using for months (that he only used a few times) was wrong. the other drivers with almost no street race experience had to trust the sim to teach them about the track, and that's one of their biggest tools. SVG had much less time in the sim and so didn't have as many concrete expectations of the track, so the differences wouldn't have been as unexpected to him as to the other drivers. to add on to that, they don't use sims in supercars, so he's used to learning tracks by driving them, in a way the other drivers weren't. another advantage to him.
      yes, he gave them an ass-whooping, but I don't think the cup drivers should be embarrassed by it. the only advantage they really had over him was familiarity with the car and the way nascar works (spotters, pit stops etc). and he's driven in a lot of different racing series so that's barely an advantage at all, because he's used to being unfamiliar with what he's driving. if it had been a regular track they'd all driven before and he hadn't, then yes they should be embarrassed. if it had been an oval, they should be really fucking embarrassed. but it was neither of those things.

    Very disappointed in Chase Elliot’s comment. He could have just said congrats to a great driver and moved on. He chose to be the hurt feelings guy and “sound” like a spoiled kid. Watching the race I could tell that SVG had a great chance to winning by three things. 1, he wisely chose to stay in third and let the two guys in front of him fight each other early in the race. 2, He let loose his real ability late in the race and moved through the entire field (That’s Hollywood Movie stuff folks) and 3, His use of the clutch pedal which none of the comments about it during the race really identified and, that is I believe he was using the clutch to his advantage to help kick the car around corners and be just a little faster than everyone else. And whether he tweaked the car or not before the race, let’s give Trackhouse the credit for giving him a great car that endured and allowed his driving skills to shine through.
