Their first event didn’t sell out because people were very hesitant. The tickets were way too expensive for new comers who just wanted to see what nascar is about which is most people that live here. We are a very blue and nobody here is really into nascar. However it would’ve been a good idea if tickets were maybe $160 per person. Plus parking is a nightmare during events.

I’ve been watching F1 and V8 Supercars for years, and was shocked to have NASCAR on a wet street circuit show up in my feed, doubly so to hear SVG was racing. If NASCAR keeps this variety of racing up, they’ll have a new fan.
There are a lot of highlights to watch. Even though II am Canadian, I have loved V8 Supercars for years & have been following SVG’s career since the SP Tools/Stone Brothers Racing Ford Falcon days. The Dude is a absolute beast behind the wheel no matter what he drives. So awesome to see him succeed today . Kinda wish the Supercars & NASCAR platforms were this similar when Ambrose came over. He would have had even more success during his time is NASCAR.
@@trealosgaming3345 To think that this week was his first time Shane planted his bum in a Nascar too... There are plenty of great road course racers in the US and today proved that international drivers with an ounce of talent, have a good shot at doing well on the NASCSAR road courses. 😉
@@FBTRCanada Here in Australia we all wished the platforms were similar ! I would like to see the same thing happen here in Oz, bring over a seasoned NASCAR racer and drop him into a Supercar. Last time we had an American and a Canadian in our cars was at Bathurst back in 2019 (Alexander Rossi/James Hinchcliffe)... We have also had the likes of Tommy Kendall and also Max Wilson drive.
This is why the Aussie super car series is so good. So many leader changes and drivers skill to get through the shmook when it happens...Drafting is good but technical driving is better .
They missed the fastest car though. SVG fastest lap was almost a full second quicker than the next fastest driver! He was in a different league to the rest of the field.
As an Oklahoman, Bell is who I follow and his car was so fast at the beginning! Would have loved to see him and SVG go at it, that's how fast Bell looked when he took the lead.

YOU CANNOT ASK FOR A BETTER STORYLINE TO WRAP THIS UP
I think the best thing about this race was the commentators wrestling with Shanes name at the start and eventually getting the message to call him SVG, and then graduating to saying the whole thing right because they were saying it so much lol. the commentary speaks for itself. well done shane, you put a stick in the sand today and it just so happened to be on the top step of a nascar podium, what an incredible thing to do. Hope we see you back again.
Despite the wet weather, the late start and 1/4 of the laps cut away, this was definitely ENTERTAINING as hell! Consider giving Sebring road course a date, NASCAR…
The wet weather is what made the entertainment. Driving a car at its limit in the wet is much harder than on dry pavement. Steering, braking, acceleration are all very tweaky and recovering from a mistake is very hard when the car is at its limit in the wet. Its fun and easier on the drivetrain tho.
@@surrrithuxand it was neat to see the race change as the course dried up, made for interesting pit strategy with the decision of when to switch to slicks

Formula one fan here. Found this after Max Verstappen saying this race was insane. Thought ovals were boring but this is legend. You just got a new subscriber and fan!
When they showed off the layout I thought It looked a bit simple - but it works. Long straights and tight bends, a little skinny in places - but for the cars in particular it works well - trying to pull up big brutes of machines. The rain made it super greasy too and sorted out the chaff from the wheat in terms of driver quality. Didn't realize that was the first street race for NASCAR and hope its not the last. I mean they've had some zany ideas.... Dirt at Bristol (not the worst idea the track can do it), LA Coliseum short track - that was a bit undercooked... but this one deserves some attention. And the Garage 59 machine at Le Mans - NASCAR hitting a few home runs the last few weeks.

I'm a kiwi and its abit of a joke to say no advantage. SVG has been winning street courses in heavier, worse handling cars for years now. It's great to see him win his first race in a new format, but it's not too surprising, he was competitive in his first Rally and drifting events without years of experience.
Before this race I had never heard of Shane Van Gisbergen, after the race I spent nearly two hours watching his highlights on youtube, Congrats to SVG,here's hoping he'll have a chance to do it again next year.
He's looking to race full time in nascar next year (2024) apparently. So he'll have to get used to ovals very quickly. But he's more than talented enough to do that, and he has a great chance of getting multiple wins next season because of all the road courses nascar has these days. And yeah hopefully they continue to do more street races too. This Chicago one has been a huge success after all, it was unanimously enjoyed by nascar fans and non nascar fans alike, it'll attract more motorsports fans into getting into nascar. As long as they have an open mind, and realise how fun and insane ovals can be (as a brit, it's very hard to convince any of my friends to watch the oval races, unless they're the daytona 500 or the Indy 500. They seem to think all ovals are the same, but they really really aren't)
Seriously that had me hooked! NASCAR, you may have stumble onto gold here. The crashes must have been so annoying for the drivers but this was gold for me. And because of the dangerous slick conditions it was all that more enjoyable.
The way shane faked the 31 car into thinking he was going to follow him wide, then went on the inside late, held him high, lost the lead and took it back with the criss/cross crossover move was fabulous. Supercar Champion for a reason.

I really hate that the weather didn’t cooperate. This was such a great event for Chicago. @@objective7042Meh. For a street course? Give me dry conditions any day. Not only that, Chicago looks beautiful in the summer when it's sunny. I hope Nascar continues to come back to Chicago because it was amazing.
And that's what makes this type of racing great, the unpredictability rain brings to the race. the change from dry to wets, pit strategies and who handles the conditions better. Ya really have to drive to the conditions. I watched the whole Race on SVG on board cameras front & rear he was rolling the car into the corners, light on the brakes and changing down gears. Which is why all the other drivers would momentarily gain on him into the corners carrying more speed but harder on the brakes causing some to lock up, slide and into the tires or into the drivers ahead. If they survived that they came out of the corner slower and losing traction, this is where SVG would gap it on them. Better traction out of the corners and gone. The only time they gained on him was under the caution flag. His lap times proved he was faster than anyone else. think they were all given a lesson today. Rain or Shine drive to the conditions, he would had driven differently in dry weather. If you only known dry weather driving your skill set is only half as good as someone who drives both, remembering it was everyone's first time in Chicago, and SVG first time in a Nascar. sorry for going on, but we're proud of him down under both sides, of the Tasman sea.
Congratulations SVG! Having lived in Chicago and running my CTS down Lakeshore Drive and Michigan Avenue late at night, driving a NASCAR on these clear and open streets was a hopeful dream!!!😎

Awesome!!! This was the most exciting thing that happened in Chicago on a positive note since the Cubs won the World Series in 2016! Having gone to college there and having lived there for over 30 years, THIS is the Chicago I know and love. Lake Shore Drive is the BEST!

SVG has always been kick arse. For those who don't know of his talent, search him up, you'll be very impressed with his calibre of driving.
From the highlights, he has no fear diving into corners. Ate up the gap, made passes, then gapped the rest. Very good driver
From rally to Supercars he is the real deal.
There are a lot of highlights to watch. Even though II am Canadian, I have loved V8 Supercars for years & have been following SVG’s career since the SP Tools/Stone Brothers Racing Ford Falcon days.

I'm not a Nascar fan, but this was awesome racing on a very good street course layout. Props to the series for pulling this off.

Truly wish that there would have been nothing but that usual beautiful Chicago summer sunshine and they really could have taken in the full beauty of the south loop with that gorgeous Chicago skyline in the backdrop on Lake Shore Dr.
Nah, weather conditions gives spice to the racing. Driver's skills to control the car in wet conditions or get their position dropped.
@@objective7042Meh. For a street course? Give me dry conditions any day. You would have probably seen even better racing if it wasn't wet because guys would be jamming it harder in the turns and more passing on the straight.

The Lakefront the one side and very expensive condos on the other. The only problem with big cities is that they have a lack of greenery. This event was great for Nascar and Chicago, but hopefully next year, it will be sunny and dry. Start your Engines!!!!!!
Now THIS is entertainment from NASCAR. More of this please.
These cars look awesome. Wish there was a bit more variety but just the way the cars look is exciting to see.
