    Only buy used tanks that have a "slick neck" if anything at all is printed on the neck of the bottle where you were pointing at you probably will have issues exchanging the bottle. I have heard of guys grinding the necks down and smoothing them with a flap disc or die grinder, then painting the bottle and being able to swap it... I have never done this myself but if your one of the unlucky people that got scammed into buying a rental tank, might be an option. I wouldn't recommend this practice and surely don't grind on a bottle that hasn't been depleted. Also you obviously have to have the skills and tools to make it smooth and look nice when painted. To my knowledge the only way they can tell if it is a rental or leased tank is by the neck.
    They will charge you for a pressure test fee if your tank is expired, also if you want to swap say a oxygen for a argon cylinder you will have to pay a revalve fee($30 at my local gas sup) as some valves are different, pure argon, 75/25, helium are the same valve so swapping those isn't an issue. A lot of people get confused about getting tanks "filled" what gas supplies do is swap the tank for a full certified tank everywhere, no one actually filles your tanks. This is just my experiences in south FL I don't know about how people do it everywhere else but it is highly unlikely that a local welding sup actually has a huge argon, oxygen, 75/25, helium, etc tank and actually filles tanks they are usually just a 3rd party that swaps bottles from a industrial gas warehouse that ships gas bottles, those guys usually only deal with businesses only purchasing dozens of tanks or swapping large numbers of tanks.

      yea watch out for those names on the neck. Most of the time they are rentals and you cannot exchange them.

      You can exchange rental bottles..most bottles unless they 20 years plus old are rental bottles

    Where I live local gas suppliers won't touch a used or new, you have to buy from them. I brought a used tank in one place they told me to get it out of the store.

      You might want to try a different place lots of them take them in exchange I heard Airgas is a pain in the ass if that's where you're going to and their prices are super high

      But if you brought them someone else's rental tank I could see them doing that

    As I understand it, flammable gases like acetylene are stored at relatively low pressure in thinner walled tanks.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      good info. I was not sure why. they also said some gasses are dirty and they need different tanks but they did exchange for them

    Acetylene tanks are completely different the have foam in them... That aren't even filled with acetylene that is made from the liquid put in the tank and the foam inside the tank that makes the acetylene ... that's why never put an acetylene tank horizontally because of the liquid inside it.. if you ever have one and its was shipped or fell horizontally you have to wait before opening up the valve like a few hours... never ship acetylene horizontally only vertically

    Where I live (Saudi Arabia), I bought two cylinders one for Argon and one for CO2 (So I can combine them for MIG welding or use straight Argon for TIG). The bottles are the largest size (T). They costed me 750 SAR each (200 USD). The bottles are used but in good condition. In addition, whenever I consume a bottle I only have to pay a fee of 50 SAR for the CO2 and 70 SAR for Argon (~13.3 and 18.6 USD respectively). After paying, the cylinder will be replaced with other full cylinder that is the same size. All certification and inspection processes are handled by the store.
    I am just wondering if you have the same option where you live? Otherwise, how different is the process for you?

      I dont know how to combine them must need a special regulator to do that. I just have one for argon and one for co2 75/25 mix. I can return them to the store and they will exchange for whatever I want in the tank.they clean them out or reuse them for the other customers. Exchange program.

    So I’m a little confused if I go to the gas place and they say yes I’ll trade the tank , that’s when I pay to fill and sell it or do I get the same tank I bought have that filled and sell it

    How long ago did you buy this ?? I just looked on Amazon and most 125 tanks are almost 400 dollars not 200 dollars.

    Got a tank for free acetylene tank but regulator won’t budge off. Any tips I don’t want to break the center piece and have an explosion if I break it along with cylinder valve.

    looking to buy tanks for oxy-ACETYLENE. Why do people have bigger tank for oxigen and smaller for ACETYLENE ? why not both the same size to match ? any particular reason ?

    • @leonardol.909
      @leonardol.909 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a limit for acetylene to be filled up since it is extremely flamable gas. Also this tank is specifically for acetylene, it's manufactured for that.

    • @thedavesofourlives1
      @thedavesofourlives1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you go through up to 10 oxy tanks before an acetylene

    I don't disaprove of people that "steal" these cylinders....these bastard companies only lease/rent the cylinders....they don't sell....so that they can keep the monopoly and sucking your money.
    You pay for it, that's yours.

    Any idea what the word SPUN on your tank means or meant?

    • @phiksit
      @phiksit 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It denotes part of the manufacturing process for some cylinders... usually how the top of the cylinder is formed.

    Nitrous oxide is non-flammable.
