One time, I cast a secret rendezvous and asked what people would do for 3 cards. A bidding war started that ended on "I will take everyone out and concede the game to you." Otherwise, you can help the player in a nongame catch up. Very fun card.
i love all the redirecting or nonstandard counterspells, old modal spells like trickery charm (literally perfect in a yuriko deck), one off evasions like night haze that can sneak in a attacker for lethal when there really didnt seem to be a path, just all sorts of odd corner case or specific condition cards that can do one thing really well and nothing else.
I agree with that Blacksmith's skill. Like sure boots are fantastic but they don't safe you from a boardwipe. And often i don't have more then 1 maybe 2 mana to spend. I use Tamiyo's Safekeeping in my Imoti deck and it safed her bacon so many times by now that i plan to play a similar card to it n all my decks.
Bro im so glad humble defector is on this list. I have never seen a card do so much work. Especially in red decks without blue! Humble Defector is an all star in all the decks hes in
The Capenna fetches are great in budget because they don't require any tap. Therefore effects that return a permenant tapped can be used more than once per turn and get you some additional lifegain on the side.
Also love the New Capenna lands. for my first 5 color deck, though, I went for the Gates. Thriving lands rule, but for 5 colors, I can use my ramp slots for stuff that will specifically find Gond Gate to bring them in untapped, or if I'm real lucky get Maze's End. Two colors, and some of the Baldur's Gate ones pick like Thriving lands. Pretty cheap insanity.
I LOVE playing defensive decks. I aim at protecting my board state rather than destroying other people's boards. A couple really good protection spells that are currently in standard right now are Loran's Escape (target creature/artifact gains hexproof+indestructible and scry 1), Tamiyo's Safekeeping (target permanent gains hexproof+indestructible and gain 2 life), and Slip out the back ( target creature gains a +1/+1 counter and phases out).
For cheap card draw in black, I've always loved Oath of Lim-Dul from Ice Age. For BB, you can draw a card. Alas, you must discard a card or sac a permanent for each *point* of damage you take, and you can't sac it to itself, but if you're playing an aristocrats deck, this is not a bad thing....
cards that I like to play a lot (and don't really know if they are played) : Broken Wings (and green stuff like that, three targets and more are so good!), white counter magic (like Mana Tithe but especially Dawn Charm), Vanish into Memory (soooooo good agaisnt tokens and Volotron and has a protection and ETB utility) and that's it for now If I think about other cards I might come back and edit the comment
Dimir House Guard is really good in Extus. Either get him out for the sac outlet or keep returning it to your hand with Extus' ability to search for 4 mana value cards.
One of my favorite Budget Commander cards that I'm the only that seems to play is Primal Order. Check out the pain and tears it causes if you have the chance. 😉
cast downs better then doom blade imo, having to target nonlegendary instead of nonblack usually comes up more often, even if someones playing legendary tribal if youre doing commander theres going to be a legal target somewhere
Viscera Seer - emphasis on the first syllable in “Viscera”. It’s a real word (for your intestines, basically). Pronounce it correctly - its not some random fantasy word!
Do you wanna be the downfall for thopters, dragons or any flying based decks? . Use [[Whiptongue hydra]]. one of the best cards to destroy all creatures with flying and make a big creature yourself based of how many are destroyed
Why use Gift of Paradise? Sure the 3 life is nice, but the mana it adds is not in addition to what the land already adds. So 3 mana to turn a land into a 2 mana rock is just a bad deal. You are essentially casting a rock for 3 that only makes 1 mana. And we already stay away from those, so why play it? Play other versions like these. - Wild Growth - Fertile Ground - Utopia Sprawl - Woldwillow Haven - Overgrowth - Dawn's Reflection Those last two are not as good as the cost gets higher. But cards like Gift of Paradise, Weirding Wood, Grafted Growth, etc are just not worth playing as they cost too much to add one mana. Get that land enchantment out turn 1 with Wild Growth or Utopia Sprawl instead. In the end it adds the same amount of effective mana and it drops 2 turns sooner.
I love Browbeat... but I absolutely disagree with them here. 5 damage is nothing, three cards is huge. No one with competent opponents would get to draw.
Alternate title: You won't believe how many cards they mention before saying Wayfarer's Bauble.
Kept us waiting!

Checks out. People like to draw their cards.
Oh Mob Rule, how you've saved my bacon over the years and now it's going to get a little more love from the CQ!
MOre of these videos would be awesome!
Video starts at 22:22.
What? No it doesn’t.
@@O_violet
Wayfarer's Bauble is a running meme on this channel. Was having fun with it.
@@magnuswarsinski oh, I’m sorry. You were right then, the video does start there
Risk Factor is strickly better Brow Beat. Its instant speed, its has Jump-start and it targets so you can hit the person with the lowest life.

Dimir House Guard was a fun one to see here. Fun fact: Pitiless Plunderer is also Mana Value 4... just saying...

YES!!! YES!!! SOMEONE IS FINALLY TALKING ABOUT ENERGY ARC!!!

Plus Ancient Greenwarden, etc
More of this series would be amazing.

You could also use clarion ultimatum if you play some sort of 3 color Persistent Petitioners deck
In addition to Blacksmith's Skill and Snakeskin Veil, you can include Blossoming Defense, a (G) to +2/+2 and hexproof a creature.
I like Armillary Sphere for budget basic tutoring
What kind of colour combos do you find yourself needing this for?
Like, 4 colour WUBR?
@@apjapki I currently run it in three different EDH decks - Tiamat, Lurrus of The Dream Den (where it’s repeatable) and Omnath, Locus of All
I use Greed for its repetable ability, maybe i’ll exchange The Bloodfast for it.
Thank you for doing these again

Undercity informer. Great sacrifice outlet that mills
I love that Dimir House Guard is budget, sad that it's still tough to find.

You should definitely talk about Sylvan Reclamation if you haven’t. It’s underrated and is never a dead draw! It’s under a dollar too!
Oh... how I underestimated Curse of the Swine the time it came out. Can't forget it.
I love Tragic Arrogance. Awsomely underplayed Card
Dimir house guard is great with gravepact.
cast downs better then doom blade imo, having to target nonlegendary instead of nonblack usually comes up more often, even if someones playing legendary tribal if youre doing commander theres going to be a legal target somewhere
A new one I found and I really like is Arboreal Grazer!
Curse of Swine + Aether Flash in my Hinata deck.
Viscera Seer - emphasis on the first syllable in “Viscera”. It’s a real word (for your intestines, basically). Pronounce it correctly - its not some random fantasy word!
Blacksmith’s skill is better than “Rebuff the wicked”. In my opinion.
Sometimes Krosan grip is worth playing.
i have never seen people stripmine an enchant land, mostly because it feel way to scummy, unless their is sevral enchgants on it
really nice video well explained

When I build a budget 5 colour deck, you can't beat land auras.
22:22 You were wondering, weren't you?
Dimir House Guard

1 mana cantrips - Preordain, Opt and Serum Visions are in every deck I have. Preordain even makes it in my cEDH decks over Gitprobe.
Cast down: there is the card"the price of fame" against legendary creatures
Intervene is obsolete in a world where Keep Safe exists.
Also Turn Aside is strictly better.
And in my books, Confound is also a better choice outside of mono blue.
...and how could they not mention the one mana white card that does the exact same thing... NOBODY is expecting it in white. REBUFF THE WICKED
Secret Rendezvous plus Notion Thief.
Be evil.
And of course there it was: WAYFARER'S FUCKING BAUBLE
Browbeat would fit nicely in my Torbran deck.
I love Browbeat... but I absolutely disagree with them here. 5 damage is nothing, three cards is huge. No one with competent opponents would get to draw.
River’s rebuke is bleh.
It's all Eric's fault.
