I mean if everyone at the table has a turn 1 sol ring then you could technically say that 75% of people who play a turn 1 sol ring lose.
Wow, sol ring kinda sucks when you think about it, If it has a 75 percent loss rate
@@elipetrou9308 On that same note; Sol Ring is kinda broken if it has a 100% win rate. Lmao
Shit boys I think we got a loop on our hands
It actually that loss rate is closer to 66.8% but yeah
In the future I can actually say that I've been listening to this podcast since day one.
I too can say this 😁😁😁
Can’t wait to out-value my opponents with that statement.
Some of the cards banned themselves by being prohibitively expensive for most people.
There's also the type of "No one will ever want to play against me" cards. I played Stasis once I saw the fun evaporate from my friends' faces so I never played it again.
@@TheMarsCydonia so maybe your playgroup isn't a good place for them. My competitive playgroup loves those cards because they make us think.
@@TheBigJConTH-cam my group plays with no banned cards. Everything is legal. Its just understood that brutality is a fact of life
Kurt Sloop I like that mindset. I've played in a group that favors creativity. So if you want a Planeswalker as a Commander you're allowed it. And only what's officially banned is banned. Minus the BS one on one Commander bans like Edgar and ur-dragon
@@kurtsloop2462 Magic isn't magic until you've proxied twenty Chaos Confettis for your commander decks
In response to Stasis. Last time we had someone in a group play this, the rest of the group said, "ok, you have won the game, now please leave so we can choose to see who comes second"
I think said stasis player learnt to not make decks like this.
Oh so you were training with the Command Zone for this style (kidding of course the fastest growing magic channel needs no training)
Haha it was great to learn from the best! Everyone needs training at some time!
Ben Williams Fastest growing magic channel? I think you mean the spice 8rack
@@DrPlant-fg9yn See, the difference is that Spice doesn't release weekly. It's hard to grow under these conditions.
@@cutecommie and yet grow he does
@ShufflePuffle 0w0 tutors are only as strong as the strongest card they can fetch
Holy moly for a first episode the production value on this is so high
Idea for ep. 2 "10 cards that should come off the ban list"
Did you hack my computer again? ;)
Are there ten cards that could come of the ban list safely?
@@ashra8281 probably not but 7 or 8 could imo. I am very anti banning and i want as very few cards banned as possible
Free Emrakul, not because it deserves it but because only having 5 titans in the deck isnt completionist enough.
@@big53mac you know what I'm curious. Look at the ban list and give a list of cards because I can't think of any I'd want of it of the top of my head
"What's a reasonable number of commander decks to have?"
-coughs as I hide a third of my 36 decks-
"Yes, twelve seems reasonable"
Challenge:
Can you name all of them without looking it up?
Haha I just started in early April and I'm still perfecting my one $400 deck. 36 though @_@
@@FatesxofxthexDead so.... my 100+ is too many, you'd say?
@@MadMage86 were do you find the storage and $$$ for all that?!?!11?!1
@@FatesxofxthexDead I have a dedicated game room; previous owner of my house added a 20'x30' room to the standalone garage for a pool table and wet bar. It was quite a nice find for a first time home buyer.
As for cost, I've put a LOT of time and money into Magic over the years - been playing since '94. However, I have recently moved to a 'checklist' system; I keep the real copies of heavily used or high cost cards in a binder and keep photocopies in the decks - this way, I only need to demonstrate that I own a card and can use it across many decks. It also means I was able to trade off additional copies of several cards to friends getting into the format, which puts more cards into circulation and alleviates some accessibility issues.
I really cannot recommend using this system enough - $350 is a hard pill to swallow for a Gaea's Cradle, but if you only need ONE copy to run across ALL of your decks, suddenly that purchase is far easier to manage and keeping it in a binder protects the card while you 'play' with it. Also make lending decks out far less stressful. I DO NOT support for proxying, but check-listing [where a player can provide a copy of the card in their possession while playing] should be far more acceptable.
I'm so used to your rapid-fire pace from your deck techs that this took me off guard, but I still enjoyed this episode and look forward to more of these podcast style episodes.
THE FASTEST GROWING MTG CHANNEL ON TH-cam!!!
I thought Spice 8 rack might be quicker but nope. MTG channels seem to grow very quickly
For a good reason, too
I like the podcast format show. It helps with the commute to and from school and just hearing what peoples opinions are on cards is always a joy. It gives a different prospective on it. Keep up the great work!!!
"Necropotence."
*audible anger*
"Yeah, I'm coming for you."
Noooooooooo
Imagine if they ban bauble. Why? Because it’s too good?
They better not! haha
@@TheCommandersQuarters but if they did, it would be cheap again! Everyone wins!
36:20 Unwinding Clock isn't a good example, considering your opponents have no untap steps for you to take advantage of.
I don't always play Stasis, but when I do, I prefer Vedalken Mastermind.
I was thinking the same thing
Did you know that rift Sweeper was banned before "The Command Zone" was made an official zone? There was time when Commanders existed in Exile with everything else, and Rift Sweeper could be used to put an opponent's commander into their graveyard and make it less accessible to most colors/decks.
But Riftsweeper shuffles into the deck, it doesn't put it the graveyard. Was that just a mistake on your end?
Yeah they're were a few others life obligation and there's a counter that does it too. Also chaos warp
@@MasterQuestMaster probably meant pull from eternity. The white instant
The fact when you realize that one of your favorite MTG content creators live in the same state as you! (about 3:15) Go Minnesota!!!
Same man!
Me too!

I love this podcast-like format. I also love that you read every card, and don't assume people know them. It makes everything more coherent.
Well, actually, if they don’t get their untapped step unwinding clock doesn’t trigger.
I was wondering about the ruling on this. I thought the same thing.
As long as you leave my precious Brudiclad alone we're good
I think the hard part of building a commander ban list is that there are so many functional equivalencies in the format that any really effective ban list would have to be massive to truly useful. Couple that with the fact that people enjoy the format in massively different ways (i.e: there are cards that are totally annoying in Casual EDH that are inconsequential in cEDH and vice versa) it would make any true balance really difficult to nail down.
36:26 stasis and unwinding clock have no interaction with each other.
Not directly, no. However, while you can't untap your signets, sol rings, talismans, etc on your own untap step with Stasis on the field, Unwinding Clock allows you to untap them on your opponents' turns to keep the stasis lock going. This is what he meant.
Oh, wait. Never mind, you were right. Had a better look at Stasis's rulings, my bad!
How so?
@@trick7039 Unwinding Clock works during your opponents' untap step. Stasis makes them not have an untap step. Best play Wilderness Reclamation instead.
@@kaszael Oh. That makes sense. Didnt think about that
For ultimate chaos have a Hive Mind on the battlefield when casting Warp World..... yes i lavish in the anguish of others and watching the world burn under my chaotic fires
Sol ring is a love hate relationship. Happy when I play it,Pissed when my buddies play it.
Sol ring should not be banned. Everyone has access to it. It’s pretty fun and honestly it doesn’t change a whole lot. Other cards Like the Dual lands people don’t have access to are much more unfair.
I agree, it sure speeds up the game. Plus it's just fate then that someone gets it turn one. I mean out of 99 cards, I can accept it coming out early for someone else.
I reckon "happy when I play it, pissed when others do" is actually a good hallmark of a "bannable" card.
It's undeniably a really dumb card power level wise and the fact that's the format's mascot is a travesty honestly.
I would be so happy if they banned Sol Ring. Everyone can play it is such a non-argument.
I clicked on the video not sure if I'd stay until the end giving the length of the episode, and I just ended up watching the whole thing through, never was it boring or anything of that sort, you guys were very pleasant to listen to and the conversation you had was pretty interesting and entertaining. Please, I want more of this format!
I love how it seems that Wayfarer's Baubble is one of the cards on the shelves
Mitch, I’m so excited this is happening! The studio looks great, audio is solid, and I love that you have guests with you.
Only constructive feedback I have: the passing is a little slow for the first 15-20 minutes. I’m not sure if that’s something that’s resolved in editing or filming, but tightening up y’all’s intro would help keep guests attention.
Gosh man, this is so exciting. Glad to be a patron, and it’s great seeing you take good risks with the format of episodes on the channel. Keep up the great work!!
I bought a Paradox Engine 2 months before the banning, the value dropped by 75%. I am upset.
PyroBug that sucks, I never played with it but I dont think it deserves the ban
@@DietrichMischke Honestly, it probably did deserve the ban. It worked in pretty much any deck with mana rocks for more value and made cards that probably shouldn't be viable very viable. Making infinite mana with it was rather easy, as long as you had spells to cast.
I sold one of mine two months before the nerf :D
I bought it when it was 9 bucks and NEVER used it. I could tell it was WAY too strong even back then.
You should’ve seen it coming, Mr Panharmonicon noob 😂
I think half of these were "What makes me salty because I can't afford it"?
I'm here to bat for one of my favorite cards, Necropotence, Yes, it's powerful, but unlike blue's draw fests, or yagmoth, it's awkward to use with three black, cuts you out of drawing cards altogether, prevents you from discarding to resurrect (IN BLACK!), doesn;t shut your opponents out of anything, And only gives you cards at the end of the turn, BEFORE DISCARD! I think it's full of fair tradeoffs. Yes you can use it to do really powerful things, but hat's how magic works, Are we not allowed to have a non standard win condition? And in modern, there are insanely powered cards all over. Using something that changes the game is how you play the game, and something I like to see, versus standard same old creature/burn/counterspell boredom. Thanks for coming to my talk.
Eddie, it was a pleasure beating you at Commandfest Chicago. This episode was awesome. I don't know if I"d ban anything, but I wold unban my boy Leovold
Re: Sol ring. I think if there was an identical card that only gave 1 mana, it would also be an auto include.
honestly, yeah,i would
@@Dragon_Fyre the point I was attempting to make is that the strength of sol ring puts it in a class all its own.
I loved the new studio, keep the background simple because it does look great!
That said, no one's touching my baby (Gaea's Cradle).
Wait is sorta of a podcast, wow that is pretty neat, looking forward to it. :D
They didn't learn their lesson with Cyc rift. They just don't want 10 copies of Cyc rift in commander. Imagine if they made another cyc rift for blue. One makes a come back possible, but more is just tilting.
Omg your nerves during the intro are adorable!!!
It will get easier ❤
Mitch, I didn't know you were based in MN! I just moved to Sacramento from Minneapolis. Big fan of the show and happy to see you keep growing and moving to this next level! Keep up the good work
I also took control of my opponent with Emerakul the Promised End and as I was going through his permanent and noticed his Necropotence and all our jaws hit the floor.
Did he die?
@@nathanbaney7396 yes I killed him with his own enchantment.
Warp World: It is more appropriate in a big-stuff deck. It is less chaotic when you know you'll land massive angles and elementals. Even for chaos decks, it isn't over-powered like flash protein or miserable for others like stacks. I do generally win off it, but in a turn or two, and in a fun way. All your other bans seem reasonable, congrats on your first episode!!
Two things:
1: the show was great :) cant wait for more!
2: HOLY COW YOURE A FELLOW MINNESOTAN!!!! WHOO LOCAL REPRESENT!!!!!! :D
I love that you add these new video types randomly. It keeps me coming back to the channel to watch and then I always end up looking at a deck tech or 2 before I'm done. I'd love to have a podcast on this vein. Keep up the awesome work!
Edit: instead of the original duals why not Fetches? I get what you mean about the power level but fetches can get even more options because of the land type wording, they're all expensive, plus shuffling edh decks adds like 15 minutes to every game.
Ban fetches too lol
This comment will probably get lost in the thousands of comments this video will no doubt get, but I liked the conversation you're doing in this podcast type episode so I'll throw a couple of my opinions in there as well. At least that way I can give my opinion as someone who's been playing Magic on/off since Fallen Empires and been playing Commander since 2013.
On the topic of reserved slots for "auto includes", technically Commander is not really a 100-card format because 10-12% of it is ramp/mana acceleration, 10-15% of it is removal/answers, 10-15% of the deck is draw/acceleration, and 35-38% of it is lands so about 70% of every commander deck is pretty much already predetermined. That means that the actual meat of the deck (where you're actually running as far as main strategy goes) is done with only about 30% (and 1% of that is the commander). Sure, the rest of the deck might synergize with that 30%, but the point is that no one is building commander decks without some form of ramp (mana rocks, mana dorks, ramp, etc.), some form of control/removal, some form of card draw, etc.
As far as bans goes, I wouldn't ban anything that isn't unnecessarily oppressive. Just because something accelerates or optimizes a deck doesn't merit it being banned. I understand banning cards like Iona, Shield of Emeria since it literally shuts down any monocolored deck (and even then, in my monoG and monoR deck I ran Scour from Existence just to deal with her) but players need to also be aware that you have to also play reactively. Commander games shouldn't just be battlecruiser. If you don't like certain cards then you should have answers - especially if those things are a weakness to your deck. Blood Moon is a very oppressive card and it isn't banned. If you're deck is weak to it because you run a bunch of nonbasic lands, then at least run a couple of basics. I run at least 1 of each basic in all my decks because Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon is a thing and they're legal. If they were a weakness to my deck then I would run ways to deal with it. You also mentioned Stasis but you can't use Unwinding Clock with it since the clock triggers at the beginning of each untap step and there are no longer any untap steps. I run Stasis in my Brago, King Eternal deck and that's how I untap things to be able to pay for Stasis's cost. But that brings up the social contract.
What do I mean by the social contract? When I play that Brago deck, I do not cast Stasis if the pod isn't competitive. If the table is of a lower powerlevel, then I don't run Stasis because that would shut down every deck and then I'd eventually win. And no one would be able to really get rid of it. I have a Mindslaver lock deck with Daretti, Scrap Savant that I took apart because it was too oppressive. So oppressive that it was no longer fun to play with. If my meta were more competitive, I probably wouldn't have disassembled it. The first EDH deck I built was Oloro, Ageless Ascetic. I bought the precon and beefed it up with a ton of stax cards and oppressive cards I had in my collection. The deck didn't run a single creature and the locks I had prevented anyone from playing/keeping creatures. And I would control the game until I eventually won by comboing out or playing "I win" cards. I also disassembled that deck because there came a point where it was so oppressive no one would let me play it. I understood why and thus broke it apart.
I remember when Sylvan Primordial was banned and I was upset but I understood why. I wouldn't've banned it, but I get it. And had to take it out of my decks when it was. Same with Prophet of Kruphix. When it got banned I had to take it out of my decks. Ditto with Paradox Engine. Cards that I wouldn't've banned but understood their bans. Communication is very important. I've played in various playgroups and I always use my decks accordingly. I do not use oppressive decks in a more casual pod. Similarly, if the table is running decks like Zur the Enchanter, Narset, Enlightened Master, etc. I run my Zurgo Helmsmasher. The deck can consistently get Zurgo out turn 1-2 and I'm constantly blowing up the field (lands included). But that's to be expected in those kinds of games. But if I'm sitting at a table and players are playing a slightly boosted precon or an obscure commander or a deck that's more janky or casual, I don't play any oppressive deck. I play the casual decks of my own. Dual lands and fetchlands might optimize the mana base but it doesn't improve the deck to a point where I have such a huge advantage over players who only have checklands or shocklands. Same with the legal moxen. I've lost plenty of times and I run said mana bases in all my decks.
You guys mentioned how players are targeted early on for getting too far ahead. That's just how it goes. If I'm playing Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Mana Vault, etc. early on, I expect to be the target so I have to be ready for that. Otherwise, I don't cast them early on unless I can get some benefit for it. There are disadvantages as well as advantages of beefy early starts.
I love chaos decks and playing against chaos decks because it literally shakes things up. The interactions are really fun and I like the complexity that it brings. As Joker's message in the Dark Knight, chaos makes everything fair. I can get your point on tutors. But there are archetypes that don't have a lot of support. So tutors usually become ways to make things more consistent. I don't play tutors in all my decks but having Demonic Tutor or Vampiric Tutor makes things helpful. With your example of Phanax, God of Deception, you can literally see exactly why I use that in one of the game play videos on my channel. I used Vampiric Tutor to get Eater of the Dead which helped me win the match. Milling is definitely a difficult way to win in Commander but Eater of the Dead provides a viable wincon. So I literally have a real world justification of your Phenax mill deck example.
The Commander Tavern ☝🏻exactly
Alpha Scorpii I feel like people are too quick to fetch the banhammer over things that are easily dealt with if you simply slot in answers in your deck - especially if it’s a weakness to your deck. A commander deck isn’t supposed to just contain cards to boost your own strategy; you’re supposed to also include wrenches to foil opponents’ strategies. If those strategies are Cyclonic Rift, Stasis, Mindslaver, Armageddon, etc., build your deck accordingly. Don’t call for a ban simply because you don’t like a card or feel it’s unfair to face off against it or because you don’t want to use slots in your decks for answers (or, in the case for many of the cards here, just because they’re expensive on the secondary market). What do you think?
My opinions exactly.
You have never played zurgo turn 1 it's not really even possible and maybe only once ever on turn two three different colors with 2 colorless
Scott Kaczmarski Mana Crypt, Mox Opal, Mox Diamond, land -> Turn 1 Zurgo
I bet when you were editing this you were like "wow we said 'uh/um' alot".
Great podcast though keep it up!
I have the foil Sol Ring pack for magic fest this weekend, so I would be pissed if it was banned lol
Mitch! You sound so awkward in the beginning BUT so real! Keep up the good work! I get withdrawal symptoms when i don't get to watch your channel for an extended period ahahahah
When I was learning how to build commander decks I didn't like when someone would play a big game finisher. I think this is because my decks weren't built properly, but now I've become much more experienced and understand that at a certain point the game needs to end. I've also realized that generally games that go past turn 12 are not that much fun because they take way too long and don't allow for players to change decks or just restart on a completely even playing field. Overall, I'd much rather have three 30-45 minute games in one night than one or two 90+ min games.
Have you considered Pokemon?
@@xzysyndrome have you? He is making sense, games need to come to an end so we can play more games. Spending 2 hours on one game feels like a slog and people are just trying to get to the next game. Or maybe someone died in the first 20 mins and is just waiting for the next game. It's just how it is in the format.
He is not making sense. He is illustrating his lack of patience and attention span. It's okay with me...each to their own. I love deep games with light hearted political angles. a 2 hour EDH game is awesome if yo have the right pod of people...mostly, not antsy "OMG WHEN IS THIS GOING TO END???" types. I have been playing since 4th edition...I know how the format is...and how kids these days writhe and squirm at the idea of....waiting. *gasp*
(also, I have played pokemon. Only because we have casual play for the 6-10 year old crowd...and they needed another Dad to help teach new kids how to play...)
I LOVE podcasts. please make them as long as you want to
“If everyone had a card that cost 2 that let them win the game, even if it only costs 1.00, it would still not be fun” insert the flash hulk player
Flash should be banned.
@@masonmartin6743 no, the deck uses a combination of Flash and Protean hulk to put a game-winning combination of creatures onto the board as early as turn 1
Some versions do turn zero, like shuffle hulk.
Great new concept and episode. Also, thank you for the inspiration/enabling. Just realized my Reki deck will be the new home for my Mindslaver!
Love the podcast style discussion episode. Looking forward to more. Great work man
Another upvote for the podcast format! Love to be able to enjoy an episode by just listening, especially with those radio voices!
Love the longer format and interesting thought experiment!
Also totally agree about Warp World (and similar cards like Thieves’ Auction) they just totally disrupt the flow of the game and rarely help the person who played it win.
G M I actually find thieves’ auction to be a really great out to enchantments in red. You might not have destroyed that doubling season, but at least the super friends player doesn’t have it anymore
Soren 180 I’d rather Chaos Warp the Doubling Season for 5 less mana and not piss off the whole table.
If they have multiple powerful enchantments then maybe O Stone/Nev’s Disk/Perilous Vault
I disagree. I think it’s important for the chaos cards to have a format to call home. Why does EDH have to turn into yet another competitive format? Why is it that we can’t build decks that exist to just mess around? Why does a deck have to win win win in order to have any worth in existing? That’s not what EDH is about.
I like Warp World as a chaotic and flavourful boardwipe, but it is a very finnicky card to resolve. Maybe if we get a version that ignores etbs, or a version that doesn't hit every permanent.
G M you only have the one chaos warp, and what if there’s 2-5 problem cards? Not only that but it also opens the way for some really interesting political games
"Cardboard vs car. Fantastic." That is ABSOLUTELY what it feels like before the car runs you over. XD
That's an interesting discussion and I think you went about it mostly professionally, except for the "must have arguments that aren't 'I don't like it'" - and then you immediately start with that.
7:00 Mindslaver. I think the steep mana cost and setup is enough for me to be okay with this card. I would disagree with a ban.
9:47 Warp World. Eh, again the "I don't like it"-argument. I'm okay with Chaos being an option to build around, so I would also disagree with this ban.
14:10 Gaea's Cradle. Yeah, I can't argue against this one. It is pretty overpowered. I wouldn't be that sad if it got banned.
17:40 Demonic Tutor. Maybe. I agree that Demonic Tutor is pretty op compared to most other tutors, yes.
20:10 Cyclonic Rift. Yes, I agree with this one. By far the best boardwipe in EDH. Instant speed Cyclonic Rift tends to just win the game by opening up all opponents and nonblue can't stop it.
24:50 Necropotence. It's a card that I really like in casual, but yes, it's very very strong. I wouldn't _like_ to see it banned, but I comprehend the reasoning.
28:20 Mana Crypt. *Yes!* It is functionally better and faster than Sol Ring. Super annoying to play against, speeds up the game way too much.
32:10 Sol Ring. It isn't as strong as Mana Crypt, but still shifts the game in your favor. Doesn't _have_ to be banned, but it's worth discussing.
35:45 Stasis. One of those cards where I don't really care if it stays or goes.
39:05 All OG Dual Lands. Seems over the top. They're not generating resources like Cradle or Academy. I disagree with banning the duals. Them being legal doesn't harm the gameplay.
44:55 Flash. Yes. One of the strongest two-card combos. Either this or Protean Hulk.
If I had to pick 5, they'd be:
1. Isorchron Scepter or Dramatic Reversal. Reason being that if your group runs them, nobody is ever not a threat. All it takes is a few mana rocks/dorks and then they can win via infinite mana + either their commander or something from hand.
2. Flash or Protean Hulk. Same as with Isochron - Reversal. Low cost 2-card combo.
3. Mana Crypt.
4. Cyclonic Rift.
5. Survival of the Fittest. Low cmc repeatable tutor that can be used multiple times each turn. Completely broken. On par with Demonic Tutor if not better.
You're so excited, and it shows! That's why I love watching each new experiment.
What he said about Armageddon is all that ever needs to be said when discussing these cards. "In most cases I wouldn't add it to my decks if you're in a meta where you know it's a problem." Done and done. Also, PROXY EVERYTHING that costs more than $20. Unless you're at a GP, nobody cares. Some printer paper and a bulk card for backing is all you need to play with dual lands.
Love the production! Always love hearing your guys' insights and have loved your budget friendly "every man" philosophy from the get go. Happy to see you guys doin this!
nice, a podcast from the commanders quarters
I love that you used the Summer Magic art for the dual lands. Those ones are a little more than “Hundreds and hundreds of dollars.”
I like the thought experiment, and I can agree with most of these cards, but I really think that OG duals don't really deserve a placement on here. It's not launching you ahead of the game like the fast mana rocks, it's just fixing your mana. And whenever you play one, you have to do something with it right away, otherwise it's no better than a guildgate or similar tapland. Similarly, if you don't win at 5 or less life, shocklands will basically do the same exact thing, and fetchlands might even do it better. My decks are very budget, and I've never actually played against someone with OG duals, but I'd assume my reaction to be more on the lines of "Oh, cool! You actually have that card!" and I'd save my groans for when I see a mana crypt and mana vault come onto the battlefield. I think it's nice to have a format where if you happen to have these in your collection, they can actually see play instead of collecting dust in a binder.
Side note: I understand that they are not actually recommending banning these cards, but I think other cards could have made better use of that hypothetical slot.
yes, honestly even in an optimized environment, playing an OG dual land doesn't make much of a difference in terms of play (especially since it would still be a single copy), it's not Legacy or Vintage. If someone owns or can afford to buy them, good for them, I do not see any issue with them playing those.
Went in thinking this was a Commander's 2 Cents episode and then saw the video length. Wow this is great!
Let's talk about 10 cards that are currently legal in Commander that might warrant a banning.
First up, there's Wayfarer's Bauble...
The length is great for a podcast, and I really like the audio and video quality (and your voices, sure). Keep it up, excited about how this thing evolves!
As a person who is extremely against banning cards. I say instead of preaching for cards to be banned, we preach for players to become more understating of the people they play with. If you can spend $400 on a cradle, most likely you have more than one or two decks. Make one a casual low level deck, that others can enjoy playing against, and bring out the big boy when you play against more powerful decks. Instead of banning, teach better etiquette
There is a way a Rhys deck can be a rice deck.
There's an old Chinese story about a man who was owed a favor by a king. The man asked for a single grain of rice to be put on the first square of a chess board, twice that many on the next square, and so on. The king didn't realize how much rice that was until it was too late.
In the same way, your opponents might not know what you're up to until you've doubled your tokens too many times.
I never wanted to play against "control the player" decks. But that's all preference.
So excited to add your podcast to my rotation. I think your voice and rhythm is perfect for a podcast
I like the politics of attacking the person with the most expensive deck :D
Bitter poor people...they are everywhere. (I know I know...you have better things to spend your money on...)
Unwinding clock doesn't work with stasis because they skip the untap
why does this not open with 'and first up there's wayfarer's bauble'?!?
Once again, I’m so stoked you guys are in the Twin Cities! I’m from there and I visit a lot. Hope to be able to play with you guys at some point!
Also, I understand how hard podcasting is. Having topics is a great start, it’s the talking smoothly and stuff wrong that gets me a lot. Proceeding to the next topic is also hard for me without it sounding forced. I say “um, uh, so.., etc” a lot op
Let's Go! Super excited for this!
Were you at Command Fest Chicago? If so, thanks for coming out! Nice to see you there and sorry I missed the chance to get a game with you!
Wait, unwinding clock shouldn't work with Stasis. If each player skips their untap step, then unwinding clock should never trigger
You're absolutely correct
It does have synergy with Wilderness Reclamation though
I love long video formats like this, and gotta say, for the very first episode this was very good. At the begginining it was noticeable that you were very nervous when doing the merch shoutout, but other than that I'd say you pulled it off very nicely! The nervousness part will definitley go away with time, and I looking forward to all of the future episodes!
Sylvan Primordeal: too powerful, Prophet of Kruphix: too broken, Cyclonic Rift: nah, it's good, Sol ring: it's in all Commander products, so it's fine
I’m SO happy to see your channel keep growing!!!!!! Keep up the good work!
Love the channel looking forward to the game!
So, they made a 10 card ban list for commander... when neither of them apparently plays commander?
Oh, boy, nothing better than a commander's quarters video after a long da- **sees warp world on the ban list** that's it, unsubbed, bye bye, i'm out.
It's not even thieves' auction
6:50 I take offense to that. Mindslaver is perfectly fine as a one-off and just gets a bad rap because of mindslaver locks.
Still, I see Eddie's point. :-(
Each of the 5 basic lands and their snow-covered variants. Imagine how much that would shake up the format! (Silly suggestion on purpose)
It has, sorta. In cEDH UBx has snow and regular basics so they can run tainted pact/ lab jace.
Ooooh, to ban. Lol. Imagine
- "What's a reasonable amount of decks to have?"
- " I would say 12 but I think that might be a little bit high, let's go for a 5"
I have 28... You're making me feel unreasonable guys!
Only one of my decks that can run it has a Demonic Tutor but all of my decks that can run it have a Cyclonic Rift.
"Having 4 or 5 decks is normal."
I have 12 going on 14. :(
35 with more in build with me xD
Do not worry fren, this is to be embraced!
1 as of now, working on 2. Im a slow builder lol
Nearly 6 years ago I sold my 12 year old collection. I just got back into magic 4 months ago and I have 6 commander decks, and three being built currently. Don’t feel bad...
Not to mention like 10 rough draft decklists on tapped out..
Man I love your channel You’re the one that got me into the commander helped build my first deck. It was a the scourge diva aristocrats deck thank you
Lol the amount of salt from dual lands was hilarious.
"I don't have it!!! MEeeeeeEEehh!! You shouldn't either!!!! Meeeeh" "NO FAIRSIES!!!!" Fucking kids these days.
I don’t think there was salt tbh
Did you even watch the video? At the end they said they shouldn't be banned.
Great first long episode MItch! Thanks Eddie! Kudos from France!
But... I love warp world D:
Love the video guys! Enjoyable to watch! Can't wait for the next one! Disagree with pretty much all the ban calls apart from stasis and dual lands. If you can't stop your opponent from doing there thing then You can chose to be happy or sad. Why be sad when your friend does some powerful magic when you can appreciate it and move on to the next game, I have played against people who spent alot more and used competitive decks against my budget decks and I always felt like I had a chance, (some meta deck building to shut down the decks as best as possible) and I did get salty every now and again but always tried to rise to the challenge in deck building with the cards I had/ could afford. Embrace the challenge, unban everything. *Scoops to stax*
Is that a Wayfarer's Bauble on the shelf there Mitch?
the command zone studied over 300 games from more than 20 sources. That is a pretty solid sample size
Best argument against banning: counterspell!
Bit nervous at the start but damn this was good. Way better than expected. Love to see what’s next. Maybe what cards are overpriced and what ones are cheaper. Seems in the vein.
I don't think that any of these cards need to be banned.
Agree, new players will surely love turn one flash hulk combo more then Mindslaver recursion. Stick to your channels purpose Mitch!
@@infamous0ne789 Well new players only a portion of commander players. Most of these cards arent even that broken. They're just good cards. Sol ring is a good card. Sol ring will not single handedly win you the game. Sol Ring doesn't warp the meta. It's just a solid staple. Cyclonic rift is kind of the same. If we just yeet all the good cards, nobodies gonna want to play. Imagine CDH lmao. Non-existent.
@@infamous0ne789 that's an issue of power level. new players in say csgo are not going to love receiving a headshot before they can even spot their opponent either.
@@llamainyamama3088 agree 100%, and I'd even go a step further by saying that the argument "this card warps the meta" means nothing, because commander is a casual format and has no defined meta
Yo the growth of this channel has been amazing
Can we just have two different ban lists, one for casual edh and competitive edh
just play with them if your playgroup lets you. I use primeval titan because it's not broken in casual, I don't use the cradle and cabal coffers so it's okay
Big fan! I have to say, I'm pleased. I'm constantly looking for new MtG podcasts to have on in the background, and since I mostly play EDH, this is my jam. I sense an influence by The Command Zone here and there, but it might also be to a big part because of the overlap in format and topic. I'm sure you're gonna get into the habit and become more comfy soon! Looking forward to seeing more!
please upload your podcasts on Spotify! dont have the time to play an hour long youtube video, but i could download it on spotify and play it while i drive. thanks!
Can't wait for game play videos! Hopefully soon!
These are powerful cards, but I don’t think any are “broken” and definitely not worth a ban. I understand where you’re coming from with your choices, but I can’t say I agree. Enjoyed the episode, though. It’s interesting to see opinions on cards like these.
Edit: I guess I could get behind flash, since consistent turn two combo win is pretty boring for everybody. I still think the less bans the better, though.
Dont Ban my precious sol ring ! “It came to me. My own. My love. My own. My precious.” -Gollum.
