If you're playing a Ranger, load up a backpack with different arrow types and put the backpack itself on the hotbar. You can open it directly from the hotbar for quick access during fights. Same with grenades.

---Combining red dye with a poison bottle makes a healing potion. Who knew the only difference between life and death is the color. Edit: it is still poison, though!!!
---Combining any boots with nails gives those boots immunity to slipping.
---Using Rain can expose invisible characters!
---Invest in persuasion! Being able to persuade in dialogue can be extremely beneficial, whether it's outsmarting through Wits or simply impose your will with Strength (always choose your highest stat option available). It may save you from having to fight, or take you on a whole new quest entirely.
---While in conversation, turn-time is paused. If one of the party members is in conversation and fails to persuade, or is otherwise about to engage in a fight, another party member can cast buffs on the party member who's talking. While the buffs' timer is on pause, you can wait out the cooldowns and set up your party strategically before ending the dialogue. Be careful not to use any debuffs on the enemy, though because that will just cut the conversation shot. Useful spells are Haste, Clear Mind, Uncanny Evasion, Bless etc.
---Cloak and Dagger doesn't break sneaking or invisible, like any other transportation skill. It says so in the description, but maybe you didn't know and it's extremely useful.
---The vid mentions breaking your melee weapons, which does happen if you're not careful, but there are two easy solutions for that. A lot of merchants will have the option to repair any item for a sum of money. The cheaper option is to find a "repair hammer", which is spread out anywhere and everywhere, from a city tavern to a hidden cavern. Literally, anywhere! If you combine a repair hammer with any weapon it will fix it up for free.
---Elves can eat body parts to gain knowledge. While other races get sick from trying to consume legs, arms and torsos, and elf can actually gain health from doing so, and if you find the right body part gain some added lore, information regarding a quest or even a useful skill.
---You can add fire damage to ANY weapon besides wands, by combining it with a source of fire (like a stove) and an oil barrel.
---Lizardfolk don't need a shovel to dig.
---Undead don't need lockpicks to pick locks (they do require a high enough Thievery value, however).
---You can Bless any surface to give it healing properties, including fire, poison, and oil as well as water and blood and any type of cloud. This is especially useful when dealing with undead enemies, as they take damage from healing effects. Note that a cursed surface will only be negated by Bless, and revert to normal, rather than become blessed.
---Pet Pal is a game-changing talent!!! It lets you speak with any animal in the game, which unlocks a ton of quests and quest-related information you cannot obtain otherwise. Sometimes all you'll get is a short and meaningless interaction, but other times it's a free hint or easy XP.
---Using a staff can be powerful but remember two wands can allow for more benefits, and twice the chance for special effects! Plus the benefits you get from Duel-Wielding ability (dodge%) can be more useful to a mage than the Two-Handed ability (crit multiplier - doesn't affect non-weapon skills).
---You can see enemies' weaknesses and strengths if you right-click on them, then click "examine". Depending on your character's Loremaster value, it will show you their immunities and talents as well.
---Last, but definitely not least - keep track of your characters' conditions! It's important to counter debuffs as soon as possible, and most importantly, don't try to heal any "decaying" characters, as they will only take damage from that.
Hope this was helpful! I'm having a lot of fun with this game, and still finding new things to get excited about! Thank you for the upload.

Another quick tip, the Sucker Punch skill gained by having an empty hand, can be used every turn by swapping weapon hands. For example, a sword equipped in the right hand with an empty off-hand grants one instance of Sucker Punch. Move equip sword to left hand and gain a new instance of Sucker Punch. On your next turn, by swapping your weapon from left hand back to right, the cooldown on Sucker Punch will have reset. A free Sucker Punch every turn to knock down an enemy every turn, very useful early game, especially if solo.

    Tip #21
GET. A. BEDROLL. AS. SOON. AS. YOU. CAN
Seriously, you have no reason not to. It's a free max heal out of combat (instead of relying on food or healing spells which can take SO MUCH time especially in the late game), it can be used as many times as you want and it also gives everyone the Rested buff for free so you can pop it right before a boss fight or a tough encounter.
You can get some bedrolls right on the starting ship, and there are even plenty scattered around Fort Joy.

Just gonna add my own two cents to the 20 tips real quick:
*1.* This really only is an issue in the early game or if you do stuff out of order in Act 2. Thievery is the second most important civil skill in the game, and you should have a character dedicated to advancing it. Additionally, lockpicks can be made with nails and a hammer for super cheap, so at no point should you be "low" on them as Fort Joy features a vendor with nails.
*2.* For fights with dialogue before the battle, you can buff the character who is speaking and the buff timers won't reduce. This can be essential in some Tactician/Hardcore fights to prevent a character from dying outright at the start of the combat.
*3.* Teleport is essential and every character should have it, period.
*4.* Paintings are also a great source of money. Remember that you can always check the value of the thing you are picking up to make sure it is worth selling. Do not sell jars of mind maggots though, as they can create the strongest grenade in the game by combining them with an empty grenade.
*5.* Since you should probably have a Persuasion character (unless you're doing a Lone Wolf run), it really isn't worth doing a respec before selling your items every time. Instead, utilize Lucky Charm on one of your characters. This will drastically increase the number of valuable gear, gold, and spells found in containers and can easily solve the early game gear problem when running with a 4 person party. Keep in mind that Lucky Charm dramatically increases loot value in the first 5 levels, and then begins increasing the frequency between 5 and 10.
*6.* You should also put one of each barrel in your hub area so you can easily access them for crafting. Zaikk's Talon which is found in Act 1 can also poison food and higher tier potions, allowing for potions you pick up to have use.
*7.* Make sure to never go too far in combining potions. You really only need your currently used rank of potion to heal around 80%.
*8.* Spread your Wings, Teleportation, and Nether Swap aren't really "movement" skills, but every character should have at least 2 points in Aerotheuge for Uncanny Evasion. This means you might as well pick up Teleportation and Nether Swap. Typically as a melee you should be running Phoenix Dive & Cloak and Dagger where as ranged should use Tactical Retreat & Cloak and Dagger. Sometimes Tactical Retreat is still an insanely good option though that it's worth putting two points into Huntsman for. Spread your Wings is not a good option though and is really only tolerable in the early game prior to getting Phoenix Dive on your strength melee characters.
*9.* This is probably the reason why some people view Act 1 as hard. It's important to do areas in order in this game, as having enemies even one level above you can make a fight very difficult.
*10.* Non-lizards can convince the mother near the turtle encounter to give them more money which nets you a unique backpack skin that can help with organization. Additionally, stealing the backpacks and resurrection scrolls from your potential companions on the boat after they've been knocked out can net you all of the bags you'll ever need for a run.
*11.* Grenades are best given to your Strength character as they can throw them farther, and damage scrolls should either be given to your Intelligence character or the one with the best investment of that skill. Since you can also create scrolls, the best one is probably "Living on the Edge" as it is a 5 cooldown skill that can be abused in scroll form to cheat death at 1 hp for multiple turns. Combo'd with Shackles of Pain, Death Wish, and Forced Exchange can lead to some crazy powerful results. The scroll itself also only requires a High Quality Shadow Essence and Raw Lumpy Giblets.
*12.* This tip is essentially the same as tip #1, so instead of adding my own two sense again, I'll give a different tip: Using Worm Tremor on a character with Torturer guarantees that the enemies targeted won't be able to move for 4 turns. Torturer's turn extension used to be bugged, but now it doubles durations, meaning that entangling a whole group of enemies will essentially set them up to be aoe nuked on following turns. Torturer also allows Shackles of Pain to be used regardless of the targets armor, which makes it's combo with Living on the Edge usable on pretty much every big boss fight.
*13.* You should use the Teleporter pyramids and drop one next to these source fountains. Not only does this allow for a quick refill for all of your characters by abusing the pyramid system and the fact you can toss them between character's inventories, but it can be used to flee too. Normally to flee you have to be a good distance from any enemy and use a large amount of AP. The teleporter pyramid on the other hand can be used regardless of your proximity to stabby bits and pretty much prevents you from needing to take the Escapist talent. Just make sure to pick up all of the pyramids before moving on to the next act or area to prevent yourself from losing one forever.
*14.* Never sell your Runes either, as they can be upgraded in a similar fashion to potions. You can freely slot and remove runs from gear, so there is no actual downside to using them.
*15.* Since I'm a console player I'll give another tip here. Keep in mind you can put your bags on your toolbar to allow quick access to a variety of potions, scrolls, and grenades. Also, make sure you turn off the "auto add to toolbar" features in settings as they will constantly add individual scrolls and the like to your toolbar and clutter it unnecessarily.
*16.* Remember that you can always respec at the boat. If you have a nice heavy armor piece that grants a lot of good skills for your mage, you can respec at the boat to wear it. Additionally, if you find a new piece that no longer requires all that strength you can always change your stats so you don't have more Strength on your mage or Finesse on your warrior than you need.
*17.* Resurrection scrolls are a much better commodity to buy, steal or find than to craft, as not only can you get a large amount of them in Act 1, but the essences are much better spent on other things. Life essence can be made into Chicken Claw, Chameleon Cloak, and Tentacle Lash, all of which are very good scrolls to have. While water essence has Armor of Frost and Restoration which all benefit heavily from being able to circumvent the cooldown for and remedy status effects. Winter Blast also has it's AP reduced to 1 in scroll form and allows a hydrosophist to more easily freeze enemies.
*18.* Perseverence is extremely situational, and is not a good skill to take unless you know for a fact that you're walking into a fight with a lot of freezing, stunning, or knocking down. Leadership is extremely ineffective in a Lone Wolf game, and on harder difficulties will only pop off when you can get your resistances to 100%. Keep in mind that these bonuses only work within 8m of each other, this is the range of the Contamination skill in the game for reference. Retribution is something best utilized by finding it on gear. Funnily enough enemies on Classic will be dissuaded from attacking your characters with high retribution, meaning it's better used on the easier difficulties to make your ranged a less appealing target. None of these skills are good in the early game, nor are they worth putting points into unless you are specifically building around them.
*19.* In addition to crowd control, Adrenaline + Skin Graft essentially allows for a lot of glass cannon builds to pop off. The Incarnate from the Summoning tree can also be buffed and used to initiate combat. After the Incarnate has had their turn, but before the round ends, if the Summoner is outside of battle, they can re-summon their incarnate and buff them before putting them back in at the bottom of the round. This not only allows for two turns from the Incarnate, but can also allow them to freely soak a ton of damage. Just make sure you have another character in the fight so the battle doesn't immediately end if the Incarnate dies or when it disappears as you re-summon it.
*20.* The First Aid skill from Huntsman is critically underused despite the fact that it's got an 8m range (increasable by Far Out Man), cures a large variety of statuses including Knocked Down, and is a worthwhile investment since putting 2 points into huntsman can nab you Tactical Retreat, which is the best movement skill in the game. It also sets the Rested buff which not only protects from Muted, Blind, Crippled, and Knocked Down, but grants a buff to the character's main attributes. Finally, it's healing is better than rejuvenation due to it not being a heal over time effect. This can prevent enemies from trying to decay your character when it has the Rejuvenation effect.

    • @CamperCarl00
      @CamperCarl00 ปีที่แล้ว

@notpc6981 To go a little further into why I think Spread your Wings is problematic, it mainly stems from three problems. First, the first turn you use it, it costs 1 AP to get the buff and an additional AP to move using the wings. This is somewhat mitigated by being able to move for two more turns, but that doesn't save it from it's second problem, it can't go through walls. Not just walls though, since if the arc of your path to where you want to fly to is blocked at all, it will not allow you to fly there. This coupled with the additional problem of a 6 turn cooldown and a 2 in polymorph requirement makes it extremely undesirable even for builds centered around Skin Graft.
Even if we make scrolls for Spread your Wings we run into problems. While we do circumvent the cooldown and polymorph requirement, it can't be reduced below 1 AP. Since it's crafted using a life essence, it prevents said essence from being used for Chameleon Cloak, Chicken Claw, and Tentacle Lash. These alternatives are much more powerful when circumventing their cooldowns or allowing use without any ranks in polymorph. Chicken Claw and Tentacle Lash also benefit from Ambidextrous, allowing a 2-handed warrior to spam a ridiculously powerful Tentacle Lash for 1 AP.

Definitely don't forget chameleon cloak/invisibility potions and delaying turns. Other than CC, invisibility is best form of defense and delaying turns can give you 2+ turns in a row. It can be easily combined with invisibility => next turn => delay => you have 2 turns in a row (if you do it with a character that's first in the rotation) but also useful when you know enemies won't be able to knock you down/kill you in one turn (if they're far away for example).
Also, crafting skills, especially corpse explosion (one of the best skills for physical damage in terms of AP/damage) and explosive trap (also very good in AP/damage but for magic damage). Both can prepared before the battle as well (although mines explode on their own after some time I think, still you can throw at least 2). They also got source versions which are even more OP.
Another one is barellymancy. Basically collect heavy stuff and put them in an indestructible chest. Then use telekinesis to move the chest on the enemy. More fun form of this is putting explodable stuff (like oil/ooze barels, grenades) in a destructible container (like a basket) and then hitting it with a fireball/explosive arrow to create a nuke.

    1. Get the Pet Pal perk. Seriously. Who wouldn't want to talk to animals? Very often you will find yourself stumped with little to no clues for a puzzle or where to go, and funnily enough you will very often find a nearby animal that will directly or indirectly provide a clue or tip! Plus you'll just get lots of funny dialogue or stuff that helps with worldbuilding.
    2. Get loremaster up! Being able to identify items so you can use them or sell them at a more expensive price is invaluable, but I find the best part of loremaster is being able to identify the traits, strengths, and weaknesses of your opponents in combat. Check the details of your enemies guys, it can really save you some time trying to figure out the best way to defeat them!

    Few more important things:
-You can hardabuse the combat by leaving and re-entering, giving you multiple turns in the same round (with all CDs ready). You can go on step further and just snipe an enemy (adrenaline is great for that) and then leave combat.
-Every point increases dmg dealt by 5%, but thats not actually true. Due to how damage is calculated, the best multiplier is warfare (for physical) or the elementary school youre using, crit/highground comes next and the base str/int/fin are least important. So when you have the choice between 3 strength and 2 warfare, the latter is usually better.
-There are a few lol level spells that are just great and worth to invest a few points so most party members get access. Hydrosoph1 lets you clear CC, Warfare 1 gives you 2 AoE-knockdowns, Polymorph 1 gives you invisibilty, pyro1 gives you nice buffs to prebuff before the fight and so on.

Also .. the ability Challenge is a great spell that can save a party member in a pinch, costs 0AP to cast and if you finish off the person you marked you get health/def/magic def/ and a 20% bonus to all damage. Super, super worth it on any character that has a 3+ points in Warfare forsure.

  • @edgybitch2177
    @edgybitch2177 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Solid advice.
I think the issue with leadership is that it’s strong against magic damage, but limited to 8 meters of space, making it largely secondary to resistance potions, and uncanny evasion. It’s rare that you’ll ever need 50% resistance on all units at all times, and it’s usually just strategically more intelligent to spread out your units anyway. It’s better to rush down and kill mages, and then understand what units are most vulnerable to CC or most likely to take a hit, and buff them.
I think it’s also good to grab armor with initiative. In a game where getting nuked outright is so much more common, initiative also gets to be pretty cracked if you go for it. Wits also plays into that, which is pretty much every build’s secondary stat from what I recall.
There’s also infinite charming arrows via the beehives in driftwood.

3rd time trying to get into this game. Still have no idea what I'm going. It was hard enough managing one person, not an entire party :|

Yeah two party members with lone wolf makes management alot easier. I'd say keep trying it, it's definitely one of the better games out there

It's a little rough at the beginning. I bought the game and gave up on it right away. Tried it a year later and now have almost a hundred hours with multiple campaigns. One with my buddies and one by myself. It's a great game but definitely one thats a very slow burn

I started a 3 man party because the micromanaging was too much to deal with.
Incredible game. Just a lot going on with a full party + their inventory management

@@vincentbrancato5146 how do you find it? I assumed I'd be too underhanded during fights with a three-man party or less.

I actually played this as a lizardfolk spear user that had several warfare abilities but also used huntsman and scoundrel skillsets to turn myself into a dragoon from final fantasy.

I remember playing this game and completely destroying it because of my build, like literally destroyed everything even though i was low level.. My build was just pure tamers, 3 characters been maxed out tamers in skill and with items that enhances the tamer or totem build. With so many totems, and monsters my main characters would usually rarely take any damage, plus, you had this ability that could heal your allies. I could be wrong though, but this build in my opinion helped me destroy everything. It was like the ultimate defensive and offence build lol

Pick Pocket EVERYONE before leaving an act. You can hire mercenaries from the boat and spec them into thievery to get infinite pickpocket chances. Also do it every time you level up so you always have the most expensive gear possible going in to that level.

Issue a move command during the animation when picking something up so you can spam click to pick up multiple items in quick succession.
Smome grenades are op for stalling a fight since you can bless them for invisibility.
In the well where you can get free gear for a offering of gold (trying not to spoil too much here) you can use the mask of the shapeshifter to get a reward multiple times, meaning you can get like 4x5 trinkets which is not only great value, but also great stats.
Nails and a hammer makes lockpicks, so do soap and any key.
Combining nails on shoes makes them immune to slipping, proving useful against a certain dragon.
Dont forget to pickpocket every merchant when youre ready to leave the act, as its your main source of gold in act 1 to have a decent start in act 2.
Shackles of pain makes the AI REALLY try and avoid hitting a certain character, using this might make the ai change aggro.
Death wish makes you also saves you from deathfog, useful for a certain necklace.
Bloodrain actually douses flames more effectively than normal rain for some reason, i haven't tested it out for sure, but it feels like bloodrain actually uses its full aoe to douse flames while rain doesn't. But take that with a pinch of salt.
Bonus: healing ritual can be reflected by reflecting shield. I never tried this on more than one reflect, but it basically doubles the heal and damage if you use it on a undead.
Also: please dont invest in the defensive skills :(.
Leadership, perseverance and retribution are all very underwhelming ESPECIALLY on tactician unless youre doing a meme build.
Leaderships biggest problem is the aoe if you leave out the obvious flaw of lacking damage because you put points in leadership. The skill encourages your team to clump up up around a single person, which is usually the 'tank' because of the synergy with guardian angel. But that just gives the AI the opportunity to triple their aoe damage output because you put all 4 of your party members in a single fireball range because you want that juicy 30% resistance to elements. AI is good at efficiently hitting multiple players at once and will punish you hard for this. Instead of resisting damage, you can just go the evasion spell or even its mass version. As for resistances, you can use the (element) skin spell to become completely immune to that certain damage instead as most of the time a fight has a certain theme, like alot of fire damage or perhaps alot of poison. Also, multiple sources of leadership dont stack, the biggest source will be the one active so you cant spread the leadership between party members.
Perseverance: putting more than 1 point into it is not adviced. The only reason why you would even put 1 point in it is so that you wont get stunlocked by electric water tickling your feet. Despite that, its gonna take alot of point for it to restore a amount of armor that would even prevent an attack from stunning you.
Just use soothing cold or the physical armor regen spell instead (forgot its name)
Retribution: fun on paper, make a super tanky character and reflect all damage if not more, until you realise that most enemies at tactician have atleast 1.8x you total armor/hp pool if you went full constitution and usually are immune to the damage they deal in the later stages. Besides, you know what else does exactly what retribution does but better? Shackles of pain.
    Edit: Bonus bonus tip:
Permafrost spell doesnt just make the target immune to damage, it actually gives +100% resistance to elements which means it can actually be used to heal characters by deal magic damage to them. Although this means that they need to atleast have some resistance aswell, perhaps a way of justifying leadership :P.

This is my first crpg. I totally jacked up my crew and need help to salvage. My main is a strength warfare with 2 handed melee. Entering act 2 just now added a couple points to Necro which was probably stupid but I wanted bone cage and mesquito swarm. I have lohse as aqua/air Sebille as scoundrel l/warfare dagger person, and ifan as huntsman/warfare with a couple points summon. Can I salvage this? I'm getting by ok but only because I did everything possible in fort joy and I'm 2 levels over everyone. Please help

I have to disagree with passive skills being good, leadership is the only one worth raising and only for characters that don't get a damage boost from raising their skills, like a cleric (hydro/geo support very centered around creating surfaces and applying effects that go through armor while helping allies), or a summoner that already has 10 in summoning.
For most characters though, the most efficient place to put spare points is their martial related skill if they're martial (two handed and huntsman being the most damage per level) and for casters it's generally just polymorph and putting the extra attribute point into INT

  • @Jaime_Protein_Cannister

one of the worst advices, Leadership range is abysmal
On lonewolf only 1 can benefit and they STILL have to be a character of the same archetype and target the same target. You're better of investing in necromancy or stronger protective spells.
