When I was writing the part about not knowing who any of the circle were, I went online to see if that was a common complaint and couldn't find anything about it. I had to replay both versions to the pillars just to prove to myself that I didn't make it up. Will do, and same to you all. Calcium guide you, brothers.
Thank you, I've struggled to find a presentation that borrows from the people I like without just copying them outright. I'm sure it will take awhile to get there, but I am still happy with where I'm at.
I knew she played the character, but I didn't know it was her first role, that's pretty cool, and yeah, it makes me kind of glad I held off on the second one. I'll be able to compare them with fresh eyes at least. Thanks for watching.
@KalTheSkeleton Dood, your channel is effin' great. Keep doin' what you're doin' and all that awesome stuff. You know, you're gonna have to do a 'Defiance' review. Color me curious on your take on the (current) final game in the series. Also, you should review Shadowman. The Night Dive port is sweet.
@@woodrowgodshyne1654 Thanks, I appreciate that. Just trying to do a little better with every video. That's ominous lol, I haven't seen much about the rest of the series, but hopefully it's decent. I have to assume something went wrong since I don't think they ever really finished the story? And I can't do Shadowman for awhile. Grimbeard just put out a massive video on it. Check him out if you haven't, he's one of the main influences on what I am trying to do. Aside from just not being able to compete with that dude, it would be hard not to have my own take influenced by his. It looked really cool though. I miss the days of weird, dark games. They fit my weird dark emo 90's heart.
@KalTheSkeleton Then don't make a video. Play Shadowman. It's a gentle balance between being obtuse as hell and super-mega-fun. Ya' know... What made games during the 90's wonderful.
Man. I wish you would have lied about using cheats to push through the game. I really bump up against it, especially since this is a soft review. I do totally understand what you're saying though about bouncing off of it because of jank combat. I think I've tried play it three times and have never made it past a few hours. GREAT video other than that little feedback.
Ah but I'd never lie to you, at least not intentionally. I'm not sure what you mean by a soft review, but I would always want you to have the context of my thoughts on a game especially for something like combat, and I figure if I lied about it, you'd just see me get hit and the health bar not go down, and then it kind of invalidates the whole review, ya know? I did the same as you, bouncing off it several time, but I really wanted to play the later Kain games and get the story first hand. This is one game that could really use a remake. Anyway, thanks for check it out. It being my first video, it's kind of hard to go back to it for me.
@@KalTheSkeleton Soft Review as in you spent a lot of time talking about the lore and background. Not just the game and mechanics. Looking back that sounds shitty, but I didn't mean it like that. I prefer lore heavy content. I prefer videos exactly like you made. And just to be super clear, I loved the video and have been watching most of your other videos. It's a great video. I just hate that you didn't 'play it' if that makes sense. I'm subscribed and can't wait to see more of your content, and I apologize if my previous comment sounded shitty. I'm excited to see your next piece of content. Some of my aversion might be that I personally refuse to use cheats, codes, mods, or exploits in games. I could 100% see using shit like that for gathering footage, but I think it puts too much of a twist on a game to only 'play it' rather than play it. I hope this makes sense and maybe takes the edge off of my previous comment. I'm for sure a new fan.
Ah no worries, I understand what you mean, and I didn't take it as shitty, I just didn't want to assume. Typically if a game is so janky or unpleasant that I would have to actually use cheats (outside of savestates) to get through it, I would just give it a pass entirely. I really wanted to start from the beginning with Kain though, and I picked it as my first game to make a video on before I actually played it for some strange reason, so I felt like if I didn't follow through on that, I'd be somehow failing. Of course I also played it and wrote a script without recording the damn thing, so that's why most of my footage is tagged with credit to the Longplay Archive so it was kind of a failure anyway lol. I'm rambling but the core is, I agree that it's difficult or impossible to really experience a game without engaging with it in the way the designers intended it. I make excuses for myself because I have limited playtime and I try to put out a video every two weeks, but I also want to be upfront about it because it's important to me to be authentic to whoever watches them. I need more hours in the day!
Never knew the PC version had additional dialogue. From one skeletal channel to another, keep up the great work!

Dope video! I can 100% see your inspirations shining thru. Looking forward to more!

Ariel was Anna Gunn's (Skylar White, Breaking Bad) first role.
Soul Reaver 1 & 2 remasters are coming in December.

@@woodrowgodshyne1654 Ya know, fair enough. I think I've got a copy of the remaster available through playstation plus. I'll give it a shot sometime.
