Game reviews? Restrospectives? Analysis? Essays? Plot summaries? I don't know, I just like talking about games,. Old games, new games, games where you hit rocks. Maybe you like hearing about games? We should hang out sometime, I guess I'll do most of the talking.
Give it a sub if you'd like to see more of it, or don't, I'm not your real dad.

NaissanceE and the Magic Circle
NaiissanceE is a first person exploration game inspired by the manga "Blame!". You can grab it for free on Steam, and you should, it's pretty cool. Still, it's not perfect, but the ideas it brushes up against are awesome. Hopefully the follow-up can capture more of that magic.

Tenchu - Stealth Assassins Review
มุมมอง 1.5K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Tenchu Stealth Assassins, or Rittai Ninja Katsugeki Tenchu, is the first game in the Tenchu series. It was developed by Acquire and released in 1998 for the Playstation 1. We haven't seen a new Tenchu since 2008 but hey, they just announced a new Onimusha, so who knows what could happen? I made a Ko-fi, though only if you insist. Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain - Ps1 review
You really hit the nail on the head here. There's a section in this game that I feel approaches this paradox in the right way: when you're crossing an area that feels like an ancient village with abysses instead of streets, in pitch black, and you have to memorize the layout of the city through multiple attempts of falling to your death. While you still have that "magic circle" breaking aspect of dying and restarting from the checkpoint, having to map out that "city" in your mind gives me the feeling of breaking the game, like I'm not supposed to be here, or like Jacob Geller puts it; like it wasn't made for me. I was small and vulnerable, fighting against the hostile architecture, and not a player solving a puzzle. Most other areas in the game failed to properly capture that feeling.
Great video!! At times this game kinda gives me similar vibes to the Kid A Mnesia Exhibition, I guess it's that 'art project' feeling haha.
Thanks, it took so much longer than it deserved, and yeah you're right, I can definitely see the similarities. I haven't thought of that thing in years.
it's pronounced "Blam" 😗
Aye, yet it's spelled blame, and I've been dying on this hill for 15 years. Also gif.

I'm in love with this game and the PS1 Spyro games. Non-negotiable.
That checks out, both are pretty great. Thanks for checking out the video.
This game totally crushed me as a kid, I had no idea how to play it or what I was doing.
I was having much the same experience until I found that video and spent an hour or so tooling around the first level. It was really fun after that, but definitely a learning curve.
please dont include the "trump" without a content warning, because frankly that was disgusting
That didn't really fit the vibe was I going for in this one anyway, so I trimmed it out, though it may take awhile for TH-cam to finish processing it.
@@KalTheSkeleton thank you 🥺
Aquire did end up making their own stealth action game series called Shinobido at some point if you want to check those out
I do have at least the first one of those on ps2 and from what I saw it seemed like a pretty solid game, but I haven't gotten very far in it. I was referencing this article from Famitsu that says he wanted to make a new "stealth ninja game" but that seemed like a weird way to phrase it if it were going to be a sequel to Shinobido. Apparently the connection to Tenchu was based on them renewing the trademark for "Stealth Assassins" in 2018, but that was allegedly just a formality. Anyway, thanks for checking out the video.
@@KalTheSkeleton No problem man keep up with the good content👍
Such memories. I remember learning a multi-Stealth kill per person. If an enemy is near a wall sneak up behind them and be at least a meter far away. then perform a crouching attack Launcher (this is for Rikimaru only Btw) then run up to the enemy. Before their death animation could finish hold up and attack again to perform the normal stealth kill animation. This is easier to pull off if the enemy was launched to a wall. This makes me finish a level with an exceeded stealth kill count. The only downside of the glitch is one detection And battle kill will reduce reduce the score = the equal to the number of exceed kill past the default kill counter -70 pts. Instead of the usual -50pts. Boss fights doesn't affect the score. Can't perform the glitch on later games. I seriously miss the game now.
Man that's really cool, I miss being able to invest in a single game at that level. I wouldn't have even thought it was possible to catch up to them in time to get them again before the death counted, it would be worth the score differential. I would never encourage someone to download a game for free and emulate it, but it sure would be easy to commit such a nefarious act. Roms and emulators abound, be safe out there.
35:22 “Demonstrates what the fox says.” I love this guy !! 😆
1:32 I remember that laying the demo on PS3 and this blew my mind. In retrospect, it was smart of the developers to put this fight in the demo, yet I still get the feeling that they set the bar too high for themselves.
You know, I agree. It's awesome spectacle, but the emotional roller-coaster of the intro has such large, consistent spikes that it makes the middle feel kind of flat by comparison. Maybe if they had started with Kalrow, then Wyzen and then the first Yasha fight, it would have broken things up a little more. Anyway, thanks for checking out the video. This is the longest I've made and it didn't get a ton of traction, so I figured it was less enjoyable. I'm glad you liked it.
1:11 I call that a missed opportunity.
But how could you even listen to the video if my voice kept making you want fried chicken?
I can never have enough retro channel in my list. Subbed. Btw, PSX recommendation, Silent Bomber
Ooh, another CyberConnect classic. I looked back at them when I was doing Asura's Wrath. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to check it out.
Yawn.
Martial arts star Kane Kosugi, son of star Sho Kosugi who made tons of American based Ninja movies in the 80s, did the motion capture for the game. Kane also starred opposite Scott Adkins in the kickass movie Ninja 2 Shadow of a Tear and live action game adaptations like DOA as Hayabusa and unfortunately the awful Tekken sequel.
That's really cool, I read a little bit about the work that went in to the mocap, but didn't see any specifics about the actors themselves. I've always got time for a terrible movie based on a video game.
Tenchu...is Japanese for Wrath of heaven??.. So why would they call the 3rd game Tench:Wrath of heaven..they're saying the same thing twice.. BTW I love this game..Wrath of heaven is clearly the best one.. I'm not even sure why I love this game because I don't really like stealth games..it might simply just being the cool factor of being a ninja.
I actually wondered the same because I had also played Wrath of Heaven (solid agree that it's the best one.) Apparently in Japan that one is just called "Tenchu 3". Also I guess those translation are kind of fuzzy, one possible meaning is "Wrath of Heaven" and another is "Divine Retribution". I dunno though, I'm not a Japanesiologist. Thanks for checking out the video.

Great video, man. Funny without being try-hard, and engaging without being bait-y. My 33 year old self appreciated this understated vibe. Liked and subbed!
Jokes aside, it can be challenging to try to stay in that vibe when youtube is so strongly geared towards a younger audience and short attention spans, but that's all the more reason that it's what I want to be. As a mid-thirties myself, I can't stand that stuff. Thanks for checking it out.

@@KalTheSkeleton with joy!
Hell yes comrades !
The media wants to pressure us into not mocking the CEO but where was that pressure towards the group drinking champagne and laughing at the poors during the occupy wall street protests? Also mentioning the shit controls of Tenchu feels like a low blow, the PS1 was a nightmare of controls. Look at armored core for example. Especially with the camera controls, I'm sure Tenchu came out before the PS1 got analog sticks.
I generally try to keep my personal beliefs out of the videos, but I couldn't have less pity for those at the top grinding those at the bottom into the dirt. Now I'm worried that I didn't present my feelings on the controls properly, because I think Tenchu has some of the better controls of what I've played across the PS1. They can feel awkward at first in the context of a stealth action ninja game, especially in comparison to something like a survival horror game where the enemies are usually slower and there are less of them, but after some time I had no problems. Camera controls are always awkward in games that can't utilize the right thumbstick, I think the only PS1 game I've played that had that as an option was MegaMan Legends 2, and some ps2 games still weren't handling it great either. Neither of those two thing ruined my fun, and the two together was only a mild hindrance even when I had just started the game because it's so forgiving when the enemies hit you, that's why I called it clunky, though even that was more a loving jab at dark souls. Overall, I had a great time with Tenchu. Anyway, thanks for checking out the video.

Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to check the video out.
The thing you missed is that they HAVE been making games like Beyond Good And Evil. For near-20 years. The open world, the gameplay style variety with little depth, focus on presentation, heavy handed political messaging without saying anything of real substance, lots of collectibles... Beyond Good & Evil was the prototype for the entire Ubislop game design model. You've been buying BG&E2 over and over again for two decades.
Ha, you're absolutely right, though I should give BG&E the credit that it seemed like it chose those things genuinely. Executed them poorly to be sure, but at least it wasn't just following another formula. Thanks for checking out the video.
the 90s freaking blows
Blows your mind. Frosted Tips, denim, the dot com bubble, hit clipz? It was clearly the best decade, and that has nothing to do with it being the only time when I had more friends than bills.
@@KalTheSkeleton y2k never forget 👺 millions lost 😔
I wish they'd bring Shinobido off the vita already. Its been locked to that system for so long and it was meant to be a successor to Tencho so similar style and play
I wasn't even aware there was a vita entry, but I do have Shinobido for, I believe, the PS2. I thought it would be a good one to look into once I make it a little farther in the series. No excuse for any of those handheld games to be stuck on those systems anymore. We live in a society.
@KalTheSkeleton especially for the sequel to the original game to be locked on a handheld no less! At least vita emulation is starting to take shape so it may be playable soon in good quality
@@MrDark086 Despite loving my PSP for years, I completely avoided the Vita, so I would be glad to finally check some of those games out. Not that I would ever condone emulation, no no, not me.
@@KalTheSkeleton Hopefully the games it had see a release soon enough. It had some pretty banger titles for its pitiable library. Soul Sacrifice would be one i'd love to see return. Monster Hunter but I just crushed by eyeball to use the power of a gorgon and summon 3 massive boulders to fire petrifying lasers at you for 2 minutes to eke out a cheap win
@@MrDark086 I've been a huge Monster Hunter fan since Freedom on the PSP, so that description has my attention. I'll have to keep an eye on that Vita emulation, so I can avoid it properly.
Hell yeah Tenchu! Another precious childhood game that i played constantly despite being way too young to get anywhere in it 😂 As always your choices of games to cover on the channel is great!
If you weren't constantly bouncing off the same brick wall, were you even having fun as a kid? I'm glad you think so. I'm just throwing darts at a board over here but thankfully it's a board full of bangers so it's hard to go wrong.
Yeah, Ayame is more beginner friendly. To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand how to play Rikimaru Stretched-to-the-limit jokes aside: I remember seeing some aquaintance of my dad playing this when I was a kid. It's fun watching videos on those old games that still knock around as a vague memory somewhere in my brain, and be able to assign names to them after all these years.
That's pretty cool, I love that feeling too. I usually would just see games like these at friends houses, but never actually get to play them. Going back to these older games now sometimes makes me feel just a little bit like a kid again.
I remember being taken aback by just how optional stealth really is. Yeah, game grades your level completion based on points where ghosting + completing objectives will get you Grandmaster, but if you don't care you can just be a Thug and kill everything in sight. Especially because bosses put you in 1v1 and you're assumed to know how to handle yourself.
Yeah and I'm glad for it because personally I'm not very good at stealth games. I'm reminded of that painfully every time I try to get in to Splinter Cell. Of course, because this game doesn't shut the door on you when you get caught, I eventually got to the point of actually enjoying it's stealth too.
Ah Tenchu, game I last heard about when Sekiro was a thing and people speculated if it was Tenchu or not
It was going to be, though I'm glad they made Sekiro it's own thing instead of just stretching the Tenchu name over it. Thanks for checking the video out.
I thought this was a better game then in the elder scrolls game
In a lot of ways I agree. Even if the systems were still rough, this game has a lot of good things going for it. Thanks for checking out the video.
Agreed
Megaman legends hasn't gotten a new game, because almost no Megaman gets stuff. Like classic is well loved, X is the cool edgy one then all the rest are just ignored. Like Exe is more popular and even that gets nothing. Legends dose have Tron Bonne she's in the new MVC remnake.
I hate Classic, X, Zero, Battle Network, and ZX. Star Force is pretty cool, but Legends is my fav.
@@zeromaycryboi I think classic and X is cool, but easily has the most wasted potential, but Capcom and S tier at falling to modernize the two main line Megamans. Not counting reboots and off shoots. Like we could have 3d open world megaman game, where you hunt down bosses, with the feel of Spyro. I haven't played Ratchet and Clank, so I don't know about that one. But looks like id fit megaman
@@zeromaycryboiI've never tried ZX or star force but legends is definitely the only Mega man I've ever clicked with. So if course, we'll never see another lol.
You're definitely right, Capcom seems to have no clue what to do with any of the Megaman series so they just keep rereleasing the old ones instead.
Like I said before, the super elections are our last shot.
Holy shit that ending was way bleaker than I remembered.
Yeah, I don't know if the idea was a setup for some big sequel, but it's a shame that's where the series ended.
i wouldn't mind if tron bonne saved me 😏😏
I'm firmly on team Tron for this one. Trigger will be laying awake in bed for years thinking about the signs he missed.
As always, thanks to everyone who checked out the video. I was really rushing to get this one out before Thanksgiving travels, so much so that I forgot to even record the outro bit. Legends 2 was a good time, but I feel like this video turned out a lot more serious than the first and I put that down to the serious tone of the story too. Still, I hope you enjoy it.
Oh yeah I've been waiting for this!
I hope it doesn't let you down. As much as I liked the game, It doesn't really lend itself to the same level of humor as the first video.
@KalTheSkeleton it was still a really good video. I actually bought a 3DS for legends 3, and after I had my 3DS it got cancelled. I was really salty about it.
Oh that's brutal. I mean I loved my 3ds, but the betrayal would live with me forever.
@@KalTheSkeleton yeah I also loved the 3DS but before I was on the fence. I would have got one eventually though because Majora's Mask 3D would have 100% made me buy one. Since that was like one of my favorite games on the N64. I just remember being so excited for Legends 3, it was crushing. I played so much of Legends 1 and 2 as a like 8-10 year old. It was like a piece of my childhood back when you would just replay the same games over and over again.
I think the trivia should be in universe things and if you go around looking for lore it makes it easier.
