    As an outside hitter, I have to disagree... Setter is the hardest. If I mess up or have a bad day, there are about 4 other attackers on the court. If the setter has a bad day that's it. Also, when I hit, I just need to focus on the opponents. When you set, you need to watch your opponents, your team, and keep the preferences and strengths of your attackers in mind!

    Well yes, us liberos dont really have as many functions besides defense and serve receive… BUT if we include the mental part of the game, i think liberos and setters are side by side the hardest positions on volleyball! An outside hitter always has the opportunity to redeem a bad pass with a good attack, but libs and setters only get one atribution to show they are good at what they do, and mentally that can break us when we fail even once 😢

      I'd put liberos ahead of middles.
      Liberos have to read offenses too.
      Because libero is also one of the most competitive positions, they don't have to be tall, a lot of people can compete for that position.
      A lot of middle school kids that were good at a lot of positions in middle school can only play libero in high school.
      If there are 100 kids that want to play, there may be 20 kids that are tall enough to be Pins or middles so you aren't really choosing from 100 kids, you are choosing from the 20 tall kids.
      Even setters get a lot of tactical flexibility if they are taller. You can jumpset bad passes near the net and dump the ball better with height.
      At least 50 or 60 or the kids out of that 100 are really only tall enough to play libero so you can demand more skill from your libero, there is simply more competition for that position.

    • @VBMichael_D
      @VBMichael_D 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can thank the clowns in charge of the rules for that limit. They could have just as easily given the libero substitution leniency to the back row specialist position instead of needlessly creating a position. That way you could still overhand pass in the front row and do back row attacks.

    I would agree 100% with your ranking if it was the ranking of the most crucial positions in a team.
    The most difficult position in my opinion is middle blocker. This is a very demanding position with very few candidates. Alone the height needed is a very restraining element. Then a lot of middle blcokers hate their position because they attack less than the others and get thrashed if they miss a read. You can find a lot of outside hitters but finding a good middle blocker is really next level.

  • @Rouricht
    @Rouricht 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Middle is especially the hardest position outside of the court. You need so much more physique and stamina- Most people don't even know that middles often needs one entire more day to rest from game days. As for the "reading" ability: It gets good when the middle is allrounded and understands every other position and how it behaves. (often by playing it a while too)

    guys i have a lil story: so i am a homeschooler and we are playing in a tournament with public schools this weekend. We are a pretty good team and i think we will do okayish, but i personally want to make the all tournament team just to get a homeschooler up there. the thing is, in order to do that i need to be specifically recognized by other head coaches. i played super well at my game yesterday even though we lost, so i think i can do it. ive been working super hard all week and i am like 100% set on it happening. but now im thinking about it and i see how unlikely my odds are. although i know the lady running the tournament(and a head coach) i wonder if i talk to her just to say hi, do you remember me, she might make a subconscious mental note of me and see how well im playing compared to when she was my coach. sorry for the random rant its just that none of my other friends play vb lol so i got YOU GUYS :D
    edit: I didn't make it but considering the amount of girls there it makes sense. half the girls on the team were on the home team so idk but we got in the silver bracket and ended 7th/16 😁

    Most valuable to the team, highest to lowest.
    1. Setter
    2. M.H.
    3. Libero. Who serves.
    4. O.s.
    5. R.s.
    6. Ds.
    7. Utility player.
    8. Serving specialist.
    My rational. A setter is like the qb. Great sets, seeing weaknesses and covering along with serving.
    MH work the hardest and can dominate with blocking & hit in different areas.
    Libero passes and digs always moving to keep the ball a live. A team that can't well won't win many matches. A libero that can serve well is a bonus.
    OS usually plays all around. Probably the best overall athlete on the floor especially if they can play all around and serve very well.
    RS. need to block the best os hitters & helps the MB. They have to have great hands to help set if needed. Rs don't always get the best sets so they have to make more adjustments.
    Ds. A bonus if they are almost as good as the libero.
    Utility player can play multiple positions if someone is struggling.
    With great passing = setting = hitting.
    Defense with blocking and digging keeps the play a live. Teams that eliminate errors also win more matches. Everything starts with the pass, set & hit. Then defense for blocking & digging. Cheers.

      Most valuable for the Team, highest to lowest (on higher lvl)
      1. Outsite hitter
      2. Setter
      3. Right side hitter
      4. Libero
      5. Middle Block
      Scoring is the most importent part of Volleyball, that the reason why offence positions (O. & S.) are more importent than defence positions (MB / L). Moreover MB and L dont have as much playtime as the other positions. The better Team with the best outside hitter usually wins. Thats the reasons they get paid the most.
      Payment= value for the time. So my ranking is based on average salary in pros. You could switch between R.H. and S. And me personally things that MB just earn more than liberos is because they are rare. Middle Block is the role with the least impact in the game on average.

    beach volleyball is a great way to access overall volleyball/athletic ability and middles are well represented on the sand. Their overall skills are underutilized often indoor because it's more a "specialist" sport. Responsibilities are spread out over 6 positions but on the beach it's 2. Understand the reasoning for this list but suggesting people don't underestimate the middle's ability. Figure out how to maximize their potential. Have a great season! Cheers

    2. OH - good at offense and defense, work really hard
    3. Libero - such a mental position, (I play this one), and there is so much reading going on, without libero/back row the play can't even really start
    4. Middle - usually get subbed out in the back row with lib and don't get hit that much so usually just blocking, still very hard
    5. RS - harder than DS and SS but not as used sometimes plays back row but very important part of offense
    6. DS - I have played as DS before and it is just a libero that isn't as good, has less responsibility, and spends more time on the bench
    7. SS - you just serve, sometimes a bit of back row, but everyone knows it is the easiest position

  • @koreaface
    @koreaface 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I think if we were looking percentile wise all the positions are just as hard as each other, and the reason being, the easier the skill you specialize in, the harder it is to truly stand out and be the top .1% of whatever position that is. Yeah right side might have the “easiest” responsibilities, but that means if you want to stand out to a recruiter, you better be top .1% in hitting, blocking, and defense, but if you want to stand out as an outside you can get away with being the top 1% in all skills (except for setting)

    • @VBMichael_D
      @VBMichael_D 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's why regardless of what position you are, you should always maintain a skillset in the fundamentals, which the two base ones are: serving and forearm passing. You need nothing else to 'play' a game of volleyball. All the advanced skills will fall in place when those two are sound.

    On the highest level outside hitter might be more difficult than middle. On lower levels middles take the cake. They have the least amount of time to respond to sets due to their proximity to the setter. You need eyes in your back cause the ball goes around you. And often if the setter can’t set the middle needs to take over cause it’s rare the middle can be set from a bad position. You need to run as fast as ball can fly to block and are part of every block so no breaks during a rally.
    (played both middle and outside hitter)

    Hardest positions from hard to easy:
    1. Setter
    2. Libero
    3. Middle
    4. Outside
    5. Opposite
    Numbers 2 to 4 are up to discussion in my opinion, those are pretty much on the same level of difficulty (and all of them are more leaning towards number 2 than towards number 4. I hope you get what i am trying to say)
    Setter ist the hardest, because you have to make the plays to make your attackers look good. Bad receive? Your problem. Attackers constantly shutting off their brains and pounding the ball into the block (but at least with 120 km/h)? You gotta solve that and get your attackers to not have a closed double block in front of them. You are the playmaker and have to make all the parts of your team work together, even if one of them is not performing on the needed level this day.

    Not trying to be that one person but volleyball may be a hard sport but basketball and football are harder because, in volleyball the opponent is on the other side of the net, you guys don't make contact with each other. Meanwhile in basketball and football they push amd run. They have to make sure the opponent isn't near them and more. (No hate, I love volleyball myself)

    You know what’s crazy tho is cause I have pay middle and I’m a lefty. We also have another lefty middle for line 2 Soo some teams get a bit confused when we play them 😅

    setter is the hardest cause they are the mastermind of the game even if they have good spikers they wont have good spikes due to no good setter thats why i think setter are the mastermind of the game

  • @VBMichael_D
    @VBMichael_D 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'd still love to know why the powers that be couldn't have just given the defensive specialist the substitution leniency that's given to the libero, which would have made the libero position needless. That position seems to have been created by a committee that should not have been given power over a lemonade stand, let alone volleyball-wide rule changes.

    • @nothingbutstatic
      @nothingbutstatic 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once upon a time libero wasn't a thing; once you subbed in you could only play that spot in the rotation. But there weren't enough defensive specialists to sub in for weak back row players so the libero was created to make the game more exciting. Now you're asking for a second libero? That seems like a little much.

    Nah dude middle and setter are the 2 hardest positions to play. You have to have more court awareness in these positions than you do as an outside. Also middle is just exhausting with the amount of blocking responsibility.

  • @Richie-o61
    @Richie-o61 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’d say the libero and middle deserve a tie! When you’re up against incredible hitters and servers like Ishikawa and Nishida, it’s a whole different ball game. Trust me, both the MD and libero will be constantly under fire, with the MD trying to block Nishida who has a vertical jump of 1.05m and the libero trying to pick up attacks that 90% escape the block anyway. And don’t forget, being a libero requires a fast mind. Sometimes, u don't think u just do. Imagine a ball coming at about 150km/hr ,u don't even have the time to say "OMG, what should i do, should I backpedal, should I dive, or can I even reach it?
    Even though the libero doesn't attack like MD, sometimes the best offense is defense. 😉😂.
    to all my other liberos out there, u guys deserve an award for being mentally tough (i once i got hit in the face, in front of my whole school) and being the best passer

    Oki I kinda disagree with wear middle is on the list I'm saying you got it right middle is hard cause blocking we all know and understand blocking everyone of the positions but Middle you have most jumping blocking obviously and moving hand to eye coordination understanding wear the ball is and diving yet still most games you have no recognition of how much effort you put into that game and all movements you did so it's challenging mentally definitely but definitely not as challenging mentally as an outside hitter but close and probably most challenging physically I haven't played all positions I've only played setter outside hitter and ofc middle but Middle is what I play now and it's the only one that's been physically more challenging

    • @AiryBerry-so8qj
      @AiryBerry-so8qj 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But I agree on wear setter and outside hitter are I just feel like setter and middle could definitely make a tie that's all I was saying if that comment made not so much sence of what my point was

    Sorry buddy! You were doing just flawlessly until you chose to screw up by placing the setter in second position. The setter is by far the hardest position to fulfill in a volleyball team. Oh, and by the way, the right pronunciation is “LÌBERO”, and not “libèro”.
