Thank you! As a Libero, my team tends to celebrate the hitters more than my passes to the setter. I've gotten a lot of bruises from diving just to keep the ball up, it's sad to see that I don't get recognition for it. Coming from you, a setter, even though we haven't played with each other before, thank you for realising how hard we work!

Libs are literally the best. I'm sorry that you don't get the recognition but when I watch olympics volleyball or college volleyball, I look for the libero and see if he/she is good. I'm a middle and when the ball goes through my block, the lib on my team always gets it. The hitters are good, attacking the ball but the only reason we can do it is bc of the lib's great passes to the setter who then sets the ball to the hitters. A good lib defines the team.
Libero here! My teammates hand out high-fives for everything, including just going after the ball. I think I get an average of 20-30 high-fives per game. I’m glad they appreciate me so much!
My first year playing volleyball I was put at middle because I was 6'0 at 13 yr old. It wasn't fun because I loved receiving so when I joined club the coach let me play outside. When I joined club at 14 (6'4) I basically was the best passer and I could hit harder than everyone else on our team. Our middles were 5'8-5'10 so not bad height but I'm glad you put that the tallest doesn't need to be middle. Outside over all is way more fun though I miss being able to block every ball that was set lol.
proud libero here ! i used to be pretty insecure of my position since im the shortest in my teams most of the time, but once i realized that its up to me to be able to help my teammates play better, and that my struggle is also their struggle, i was no longer ashamed of it lol. thank you so much for this video!
I'm 6 ft, I'm a middle blocker and I can confirm you really need to like playing as one to enjoy it. To sum it up, it's not an objectively fun position compared to the rest of the hitters: You have to be doing lateral movement all the time, jumping to block all the spikes, and you'll only have the ball set 1 out of 10 sets if you're lucky. But being able to rest every 3 rotations is much appreciated, as is not having to receive. That's why you must like the position to enjoy playing it. Me personally, I love it so I encourage y'all to give It a try if you match the "requirements". Also thank you for this kind of videos, I'm sure they help thousands of new players in this wonderful sport.
One thing the video leaves out, I feel like you get more opportunity to be creative as a middle blocker/hitter. You aren't getting the space to always ramp up and just deliver a power shot like an OH, or OPP. You can hit 1's, you can cross behind the setter, you can tip the ball along either side of the net - there is a lot more opportunity to utilize a bigger bag of tricks as a MH than I feel you get as an OH or OPP, and that can make the position really fun to play.
I'm currently a setter, but after watching this video I'm starting to believe I'd be a better libero. I haven't played much as a setter, and sure it looks fun, but I'm really bad with precision, I have really bad leadership skills, I struggle with making quick decisions, I'm not very strategic, I fail to analyze the opposing teams for weaknesses, and I just overall don't fit the traits. I feel like I was only placed as the setter because my coach thought my sets were nice and pretty, but that's about it. Now, as for liberos, I'm one of the shortest in my current team, I get so thrilled when receiving balls, especially serve receives, I haven't tried it but diving for the ball looks like so much fun, I've done gymnastics before so my flexibility and agility is great, and I just overall find it more fun. I also enjoy being in the back row better than the front row. I get really nervous in the front row. But yeah, I might look into trying to change my position
when i joined my volleyball team, i wanted to play oppo hitter my coach wanted me to play Libero which was fair enough because i was 5'5 and im currently not much taller, but i asked if i can show him my jump to make up for my height and long story short, i'm an opposite hitter now. that means no matter your height there is always something you can do to gain a advantage on the opponent

diving in a little deeper to what he said here -> 1:27 I've learned as a setter to identify your types of hitters. A hard hitter, someone you can set to who is strong, and who is guaranteed (if you give them a good set) to slam it down. Your smart hitter (or nerd lol) a hitter who is not necessarily as strong as your hard hitter. However, they are strong when it comes to being smart about where they put the ball and getting over or around blocks. The last one is my fav, your raccoon hitter. (or trashcan hitter, reduce reuse recycle hitter or your dependable spiker.) You can give this player the worst sets, and they'll still play it. They're good at adjusting and using your set, making what could've been a point lost into a game-changing play!!! :3333

You forgot the con of the hitter smashing a ball then telling you it was a bit low. If you get angry at criticism, don't play setter. You always will. Also forgot the con of your middle hitting into you while trying to set. Missed Pro (Outside):Coach's favorite like 90% of the time
@jeseewilson1857 yes. You rarely get a perfect set because it's your job to better a ball. How often does a lib get a perfect pass. At least while starting out. If you are better then your teammates well be smarter and understand you are doing your best
@jeseewilson1857 oh tryout for sure. It's not like absurd criticism. But just don't expect to be congratulated for a good set. Also it's the best position cause height doesn't matter and you get to play all 6. Also ik a setter named Ash so it would be cool to know 2. Word of advice would be learn to set your middle and right side* cause they will be a lot more grateful 🙏
I started volley as an oppo, then switch to setter into MB. I don't like my position as someone who prefers defending rather than attacking. But watching this video made me realize that I fit both MB and libero.
I started as a middleblocker, I didn't grow up along my teenage years, and I've became a libero, and right now, on present days I love my position. I'm setter, right now.
i've been playing for 6 years but i still watch all these videos anyways lol my first year i was a setter idk why, and i dont remember it a ton, but it was me and about 3 other girls about 3 years older than me lol. idk if i was good or bad but yea. then covid and i didnt play a year, then i was libero, AND THEN i found my happy place: outside. i am a KILLER hitter and its so fun to see the other girls struggle hehehe. my club coach made me set and that did not end well but that also might be bc no one but me on that team could hit soooooooooo this is too long but idc you get to read all about my whole volleyball career
NOTICE: Pme I have waited to see some "how to" videos from you! there are not many volleyball creators, and so guides like these are found extremely helpful if executed well. PLEASE make some more of them!!!
THANK YOU I NEEDED THIS VIDEO i think with all this in mind I would like to train to become either an outside or opposite hitter and I feel like this also could help show what i need to work on to excel in those areas
Also another con of the middle(coming from a national level middle) is the set is usually never the way you want it to be. In order to bang a ball you need to have a good setter and also good communication. Which comes down to you having to be able to read the set and make a decision based off of what you can do.
I got picked for middle first year and I was super short but now it’s really fun because me and my setter are close and I basically became the go to for him because we got so good with each other even thought I’m a middle
I like how literally all the people who comments are libs or setters, and as a lib myself, I really like this video because it kinda gives me a sense of the mentality of other positions. I like trying to understand what my outsides, middles, and oppos think during games, and whether or not I can help them psychologically. None of the people on my team are hot headed, so this isn't really a problem, but I find that if I can get someone to laugh by either being unhinged or just straight up loud (or both), I usually feel better after games whether or not we win or lose.
just started doing volleyball a few months ago and i really adore this sport! i honestly think that setters are the coolest and i kinda want to be one but im a lot more comfortable in the back and my skills are better as a libero, i like running for the ball- (my friend sayd ‘just like a dog’ … no.)
I’m just now starting to play volleyball and I’m really wanting to be a libero. CONS: I’m not very tall, dont like being in the spotlight much (i have anxiety), i suck at setting (and serving), and i love spiking but i always have to spike up and not down into the floor. PROS: I’m decently flexible, i have decent stamina, i love being in the back row, I’m better at receiving then anything else and its my favorite thing to do, and i love being the one to help the team when it comes to defense. I’m not one for speaking out loud much but when i get in the game i love hyping my team up. (Oh and i don’t mind not getting much recognition)
i was a libero when i first started, though passing was NOT my strong suit at all. i enjoyed diving, but i genuinely couldn't do it well and i would often shank the ball. then around 2 years in, i switched to being a setter. i had always enjoyed setting and i was decent at it so i stayed as a setter.
Being an oppo, this is so real. Even though only 5’4 my coach sometimes puts me in as the middle blocker when ours is out since I’m always up at the net blocking.
Middle and I am short- 5'6 Just to clarify, I am a 14 year old girl, who is 5'6. I used to play in club. Idk what my vertical is but I got picked to be middle, bc of my vertical... Love PME's videos btw 😮
I would be such a good libero but so many people tryout for it and I'm not as experienced as them so I pretty much just stick with Opposite. But playing with clubs and scrimmages where there aren't right sides helped me to experience outside and middle which was a really nice time to figure out what I'm good at.
Love the video, it's very consistent, it's informative and interesting to listen. You have a nice voice also. I'm a very rookie volleyball player and fan so I feel I'm gonna learn lots from your vids :)) I always loved a defense position in every game we played in school so I hope I can carry on with it and learn to be a good defense player for anyone willing to play with me! Heart eyes at all you Liberos out there
nice vid, i tend to play as middle every time i play (not really into competitive VB but really enjoy playing for fun) i play as middle (6'1) but after this i think oppo would really fit me. Having played middle im pretty used to blocking and my height helps plus im a lefty which is a good bonus. Overall really helpful!
I'm starting to get really interested in volleyball, and I'm not sure what should I do I'll probably start up with some beach volley this summer and then, maybe start in a team I think my favorite position is Libero. However, I'm not sure if I should try to become one because I may also be good at setting or hitting Thanks for your content!! 😁
Started as middle but ive started transitioning into playing outside, suits me better for my height, playstyle and the fact that I get to receive. Im 6'0 so blocking as a middle is a bit tough but I can manage and on attack I try to be the decoy as much as possible
I fit directly into the outside hitter's category (outside height, I jump high), but I can't block. I am a very all-rounded player being able to spike and receive, but I can't get enough height for blocks (weird I know) What position should I play if I still want to continue spiking, but can't block?
Started as libero (short) wasn’t doing good as libero,so turned to right side, then I went in for our 2nd middle who was in back row, served for her then played 2 rotations as a back row middle. (All in one tournament) and keep in mind this was my first ever time doing a 6-2.
I’m a blocker, kinda sucks to play because you have to mentally prepare for the spike cuz those hurt ALOT, and you shouldn’t really close you’re eyes just in case they change it mid way. But, it’s so satisfying to have your read right and just be the reason why their momentum just got ruined
I tried out a few positions. Setter, Outside, and oppo, because I suck at defense. I am 6'5 and as much as I love blocking, theres something about being a setter that I really love. But I also suck at setting most of the time, and I get good sets forsure but no one ever sees them, and my friends roast my bad sets, haha!
I am in middle school, and i think that liberos and defensive specialists are very cool (i love falling for the ball but i can't really dive yet), but i also think that i would be an ok outside. I am 5'3 (which is pretty tall) and i havent really decided on a position yet. I also really love serving. Maybe some recommendation?
i'm a really good setter but i'm way too short and I might have to switch to libero later but i really don't want to. i love this position so much and it feels so perfect, if only i wasn't so short!
Please make a video explaining rotations! I’m basically a volleyball noob and I wanna understand how it works, as it just confuses the mess outta me when I watch it 😅
I think outside hitter will suit me cause i am good at blocking im reasonably quick and i can serve pretty well, just need to work on hitting and recieves.
I am old guy that played before the libeiro was a thing😅. The coach put me as a lefty outside hitter because I could feint spiking with my right to have the blocks fouled and that would open the line for me… But then I became a middle and excel there with my quick jumps and reflexes to block.
ayyy mee tooo!! i’m abt the same height as one of our middles but i’m better at diving on the floor than blocking above the net (on a good day, i can probably get my WRIST past the tape 👀) our other libero was just below my neck 😅
I'm learning how to play volleyball to I can be on my schools volleyball team, and these videos really help,🫶 could you make a video on the best ways to set, spike, pass, and serve a ball please???😊
I can play pretty much anything, except setter (my sets are too unusually fast overall, not very good) and opposite (since my right side spiking footwork isn't very good, but that is kinda manageable). I was pretty much either the 2nd or 3rd middle (sometimes even 1st), I can play libero (yes a middle that passes well) and my outside game is pretty good, if not for my inconsistent high ball hitting. My best skill is definitely serving (I'm in the final year of highschool, and I'm one of the best servers here), but blocking and fast ball hitting are the things that make me a middle. I am 184cm tall, maybe 185cm with shoes, and middle is definitely my position.
I want to try for setter, my biggest issues are overhand serves… my second biggest issue is receiving, the ball either isn’t touched because I get confused when someone else is going to receive at the same time I’m going to receive, or I get to receive but the ball goes off the court, though sometimes it doesn’t and it’ll go straight. And I’ve never done a set for a hitter, because last summer I was mainly working on receiving because of how bad I was the school year before (I progressed a lot). I eventually gave setting a try, got every single back set into the net thing that we had to set the balls into, but for warmups the one-handed was hard to do against the wall- I was kinda confused anyway with how to do the setting warm up- I have plans for the middle of November to have my friend help me with the overhand serve, then on top of conditioning I planned on a few camps during next summer. So being that I really would like trying out for setter, but have some difficulty, are there any tips? Thank you ❤
Started as a middle blocker coz i was the tallest guy in team but I always felt comfortable in being a setter. It's just feel like I'm leading an orchrestra. LOLL
omg trae young 🤭 i played setter and middle on my team ( middle school so it wasn’t anything special ) and I’m 5’3, nowhere near the tallest on the team but definitely not the shortest. I think setter would be best for me in high school.
Pretty much, with more than year and a half of volleyball experience, I haven’t been on the team before, but as an 5’11 I would most likely be a middle or outside.
started as setter, went to libero (cuz im short), became setter again (i grew up)

@jeseewilson1857 yes. You rarely get a perfect set because it's your job to better a ball. How often does a lib get a perfect pass. At least while starting out. If you are better then your teammates well be smarter and understand you are doing your best
@@Rednaxela212 That is crazy! Obviously no one is perfect, why criticize a setter? 😭 That’s what I was looking into for tryouts next year 💀
@jeseewilson1857 oh tryout for sure.
@@Rednaxela212 middle and right door?
I started volley as an oppo, then switch to setter into MB.
I don't like my position as someone who prefers defending rather than attacking.
But watching this video made me realize that I fit both MB and libero.
I started as a middleblocker, I didn't grow up along my teenage years, and I've became a libero, and right now, on present days I love my position. I'm setter, right now.
i've been playing for 6 years but i still watch all these videos anyways lol
my first year i was a setter idk why, and i dont remember it a ton, but it was me and about 3 other girls about 3 years older than me lol. idk if i was good or bad but yea. then covid and i didnt play a year, then i was libero, AND THEN i found my happy place: outside. i am a KILLER hitter and its so fun to see the other girls struggle hehehe. my club coach made me set and that did not end well but that also might be bc no one but me on that team could hit soooooooooo
this is too long but idc you get to read all about my whole volleyball career
Awesome video. I'm 5'6" and was a middle blocker😂. I've made the change to setter/libero now. Middle took too much energy.
my middle was just barely 5' 😂
girl could jump tho
NOTICE: Pme I have waited to see some "how to" videos from you! there are not many volleyball creators, and so guides like these are found extremely helpful if executed well. PLEASE make some more of them!!!
THANK YOU I NEEDED THIS VIDEO i think with all this in mind I would like to train to become either an outside or opposite hitter and I feel like this also could help show what i need to work on to excel in those areas
Setter and libero!❤
As a tall middle, I can say that this is a banger thumbnail
As a woman, who wants to be a libero, or an auxiliary server, hearing I could serve as a libero made me smile so much!!!
just started doing volleyball a few months ago and i really adore this sport! i honestly think that setters are the coolest and i kinda want to be one but im a lot more comfortable in the back and my skills are better as a libero, i like running for the ball- (my friend sayd ‘just like a dog’ … no.)
I loved being a libero thank you so much!
Awesome explanation. I love every detail you've shared
i was a libero when i first started, though passing was NOT my strong suit at all. i enjoyed diving, but i genuinely couldn't do it well and i would often shank the ball. then around 2 years in, i switched to being a setter. i had always enjoyed setting and i was decent at it so i stayed as a setter.
Being an oppo, this is so real. Even though only 5’4 my coach sometimes puts me in as the middle blocker when ours is out since I’m always up at the net blocking.
would LOVE a video on rotations, because as a beginner, it's hard to understand❤️
i was a setter then a outside/ DS then a libero and right side. now i might try middle since i can jump really high
Middle and I am short- 5'6
Just to clarify, I am a 14 year old girl, who is 5'6. I used to play in club. Idk what my vertical is but I got picked to be middle, bc of my vertical... Love PME's videos btw 😮
What’s your vert?
Damn how u high u jump🤔🤔
Is bro hinata?
@@RTR5611 ong like what
@@maskedbtwidk honestly 😐
I would be such a good libero but so many people tryout for it and I'm not as experienced as them so I pretty much just stick with Opposite. But playing with clubs and scrimmages where there aren't right sides helped me to experience outside and middle which was a really nice time to figure out what I'm good at.
I’m a setter cause of you 😄
Love the video, it's very consistent, it's informative and interesting to listen.
I'm starting to get really interested in volleyball, and I'm not sure what should I do
I'll probably start up with some beach volley this summer and then, maybe start in a team
I think my favorite position is Libero. However, I'm not sure if I should try to become one because I may also be good at setting or hitting
Thanks for your content!! 😁
I am the middle in the team playing was a setters play style in mind Relieving my setter
well explained, excellent. .
I am a very all-rounded player being able to spike and receive, but I can't get enough height for blocks (weird I know)
What position should I play if I still want to continue spiking, but can't block?
Started as libero (short) wasn’t doing good as libero,so turned to right side, then I went in for our 2nd middle who was in back row, served for her then played 2 rotations as a back row middle. (All in one tournament) and keep in mind this was my first ever time doing a 6-2.
I’m a blocker, kinda sucks to play because you have to mentally prepare for the spike cuz those hurt ALOT, and you shouldn’t really close you’re eyes just in case they change it mid way. But, it’s so satisfying to have your read right and just be the reason why their momentum just got ruined
I love playing libero 🤩
I tried out a few positions. Setter, Outside, and oppo, because I suck at defense. I am 6'5 and as much as I love blocking, theres something about being a setter that I really love. But I also suck at setting most of the time, and I get good sets forsure but no one ever sees them, and my friends roast my bad sets, haha!
I love diving. I dove into chairs and tables just to save a ball 😂
Always been a setter, still am, just recently tho started hitting front row and setting backrow
started as middle, went to outside, now i play both
I'm a setter and have a crazy vert. We play a 5:1 and my favorite is the other teams outsides reaction when I block them 🙃
as a libero. thank you for remembering about us
I have been a setter since I started playing volleyball because im a leftie
Please make a video explaining rotations! I’m basically a volleyball noob and I wanna understand how it works, as it just confuses the mess outta me when I watch it 😅
Utility Player here🏐✨️(Opposite Hitter/2nd Setter/Defensive Specialist all in one )
slayyyyyyy
thank you for the video, was super helpful
started as a setter played there untill 17 then was moved to oppo due to jumping skills and having a cannon for a right arm 187cm 331cm max reach
thanks brother
bc of you i get to go to vnl after 1 sec of practise
😎
I dont have a position yet cause im not in a team but i want to go in one and im learning the position so this rlly helped
I think outside hitter will suit me cause i am good at blocking im reasonably quick and i can serve pretty well, just need to work on hitting and recieves.
why is everyone in this comments section a libero?
Thank you I’ve been seeing that 😭
Hinata has proven that you can play any position you want as long as you work hard and belive in yourself
I am old guy that played before the libeiro was a thing😅.
The coach put me as a lefty outside hitter because I could feint spiking with my right to have the blocks fouled and that would open the line for me…
But then I became a middle and excel there with my quick jumps and reflexes to block.
I’m a setter right now (btw I’m short) but I’ve been trying to practice to be a libero, but I love being setter.
SCOT STERLING made an appearance in this video and I’m all for it!!
Forced to play middle because of my explosiveness. Suffering from success... :D
I’m a libero!
Me too! We 💗 being short 😊😊
I really want to be libero because I am on the shorter side
ayyy mee tooo!! i’m abt the same height as one of our middles but i’m better at diving on the floor than blocking above the net (on a good day, i can probably get my WRIST past the tape 👀)
our other libero was just below my neck 😅
I'm learning how to play volleyball to I can be on my schools volleyball team, and these videos really help,🫶 could you make a video on the best ways to set, spike, pass, and serve a ball please???😊
as a lefty i play opposite and setter too
i think im going to go with the setterr
i haven’t tried out for my volleyball team yet but i wanna be a libero. i’ve did 2 volleyball camps and i realized that im good at serve recieve
LOLL
I’m right side as 5’8 but I might go to outside. I really just have long arms to help me hit easier
thank goodness ive been waiting for this video
I’m 61 at 14 and I play middle.it’s fun to block stuff and I have gotten to the point where I can block age groups 3 to 4 years above me.
I love being a middle with my 1,74meters
Heart over height 🗣🗣🗣‼️‼️‼️
I've always wanted to be a setter (yes before watching haikyuu) but I'm a middle blocker
omg trae young 🤭
i played setter and middle on my team ( middle school so it wasn’t anything special ) and I’m 5’3, nowhere near the tallest on the team but definitely not the shortest. I think setter would be best for me in high school.
I am a middle ❤ love the game but I get hurt really often😅
Pretty much, with more than year and a half of volleyball experience, I haven’t been on the team before, but as an 5’11 I would most likely be a middle or outside.
I'm a DS (defense specialist) and was wondering how helpful it is compared to being a libero which is the most known defense position. Thanks!
i'm a lefty and honestly i have so much fun as an Opposite Hitter
(5'8 at 17 yo, i'm cooked🙏🏻)
