  • Finding your way to a successful and fulfilling life takes hard work and dedication. The path can be difficult, but discovering your niche and encountering supportive mentors can smooth the way.
Dr Dawn Jaroszewski is a world leader in the surgical repair of chest wall deformities, including pectus excavatum.
“Dr J” as she is more commonly called, shares her journey from high school social-misfit to successful businesswoman, and ultimately a world-renowned cardiothoracic surgeon. She discusses ground-breaking innovations she developed to modify a surgical procedure that was once thought to be applicable only to children, which can now be life changing for almost any adult.
Dr. J also reveals the impact mentorship has had on her life and how it can benefit others. She offers encouragement and gives advice on how to obtain success and fulfillment in life with these simple steps; find a passion that inspires you; work hard to become the best in the world at what you choose; and make the lives of others better in the process.
Brought to you by Rebecca Uhl who also volunteered as the Speaker Coach. Also contributing is Financial Potion for the production and photography. Dr. Dawn Jaroszewski, known to her patients as “Dr. J”, began her journey in a lucrative business career. Upon finding ample success, but an empty life in the corporate world, she decided to pursue medical school to make a difference, where her passion for surgery was discovered. Now, after 20 years of hard work and dedication, she is the director of Mayo Clinic’s Chest Wall and Thoracic Oncology Program and is considered the world’s expert in reconstruction of chest wall deformities.

I’ve had the privilege of caring for many of Dr. J’s patients post-op for over five years when she started her pectus surgical journey. She’s the real deal and you will not find a better surgeon or caring person in the business!

Dr J is amazing! She has helped so many pectus patients, myself included. Her understanding of not just the physical, but the psychological affect the deformity has on patients is what makes her the best. Very grateful & thankful to be a patient of hers. Thank you Dr J for finding your niche & helping us all!

As far as my symptoms with p.e....I just couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t even dare walk and talk. Seriously, I wouldn’t dream of it because if I did I’d be dying for air. I couldn’t walk for more than 1 block without feeling faint. My tachycardia was terrible. I’d be in the hospital at least once a week with dizziness, difficulty breathing, tachycardia, etc. My quality of life was so so low. Dr J gave me a new life. Now (only 4 months into surgery) you can’t stop me. I walk and walk and walk. I can actually sing more than 4 or 5 words of a song without dying. I am able to (for the 1st time in 8 years) to climb more than 1flight of stairs. Before my surgery I would climb 1/2 a flight of stairs and would have to sit and gasp for air. Again, thank you Dr J. You are an angel
