Yeah that’s weird, when I commented a few hours ago this video had around 30 likes and 150 views, now it’s only showing half of that. Not sure if this helps but it still says I’ve liked the video on my screen and I doubt a bunch of people have went out of their way to unlike the video Hope this fixes itself eventually
as someone who start The UC timeline with unicorn, I would strongly advise against it. because there are plot points and references that newer fans won't understand until they've seen the previous series instead I'd recommend Mobile Suit Gundam 8th Ms team or Mobile Suit Gundam 0097 as a starting point for UC.
Something like 8th MS team is definitely a better way to start the UC timeline, but to get into Gundam as a whole I still recommend Unicorn as a fantastic way to start. To be frank, although I really enjoy the classics and 8th MS team in particular, a lot of people would probably just get bored and never look further into Gundam if they start there. The older series are just a bit different and definitely slower, so for someone who’s new to Gundam and watches a lot of modern anime, Unicorn is a much easier way to ease into Gundam and appreciate the older series afterwords.
@@Viseak but that's the thing, the alternate universe shows are much better at getting people into the franchise. Because they're designed to be stand alone shows while unicorn is supposed to be watched with three other series of contacts Plus you can't watch Gundam NT without watching the other Gundam shows. The thing is I'm not telling people they can't watch Gundam however they want, I'm just trying to give newcomers the best possible chance of getting into the franchise. don't get me wrong I love Unicorn it's probably one of my favorite Gundam shows of all time. I just simply feel they're much better shows, I'm not even strictly talking about UC there are some amazing alternate universe shows that people can watch as well to get them into the franchise. Also if people really want to have easy access to unicorn it's also available on the Gundam info TH-cam channel though that series is technically different because it's the OVA but split up into 22 episodes that series is Gundam unicorn re:0096.

For someone new to gundam iron blooded orphans might be the best option since its the first main series TV production to not be overly reliant on stock footage and plot wise it kinda feels like an attack on titan light.
When I first heard about the unicorn gundam around early 2010 ( without seeing it yet) I though is sounded like a goof, because it reminded me of G gundam. But when I saw it. I was hooked. It’s like hearing Rick Astley then realized he was white haha!
When Banagher's dad died the way he did, I realized Im gonna love Unicorn and I did. I'm not a big fan of the designs but the story and dynamics got me hooked. Kinda feel bad that I used to pass on it. I also will recommend Victory and G too :) although that's 51 episodes
Yeah I liked how from the beginning you see that they aren’t afraid to kill of important characters which sets the tone for the rest of the series. Although maybe not as brutal as something like Evangelion can be for example but that’s a whole other can of worms
Got into Gundam this year and i kinda disagree, of course gatekeeping is wrong, and I would never dream to force someone to a specific watch order since is their experience and they should decide for themself, however as someone who fineshed Gundam Unicorn yesterday after watching origin/z/zz/cca i can confidently say that some themes and characters from Unicorn hits 100 times harder, therefore while is not required, especially because Unicorn still give you a general basis of everything that happend in the last 100 years of Gundam in world history, is still hightly recommend to watch at least the series i leasted first, especially Z ,ZZ and CCA(movie). However keep this as a suggestion rather than gatekeep, if you want to start with Unicorn start with Unicorn then, as long as people come to enjoy giant robots is all fine, especially since not everyone has the time to watch Gundam in a relatively short amount of time, therefore if you want to watch the series you are curious about first is completely fine, a lot of people didn't started with the og or origin when we talk about UC(main timeline) after all.
Yeah I get it, since making this video I have kinda changed my stance and recommend starting with the Origin, it just makes the most sense at this point I still believe Unicorn is a great standalone series though, but definitely enhanced by everything that came before in the UC timeline

My only problem with watching unicorn first, is that with every non-gundam fan friend I've introduced to the franchise with it, they get put off from the older series because of the drop in animation quality and then never watch the older series, so from then on I just introduce them with the older series, and watch everything in order.
Yeah honestly, there is always the chance it has the reverse effect. Maybe I'm an outlier as I really enjoy the classic animation of Mobile Suit Gundam, 08th ms Team etc, to me they have a certain charm to them. But I guess not everyone would see it the same way, I also know plenty of people that cant stand older looking animation.
@@Viseak yeah, I love classical animation too, more so when it's done so well like in the older OVAs and movies. showing them Origin or thunderbolt first has the same effect. so I start with 0079 and go on release order from there. Thunderbolt is great for MS action, but the story and character are sincerely bad, but man, the mech designs are so good!

I haven’t actually finished either 00 or Iron Blooded Orphans if I’m perfectly honest, I did enjoy what I saw of both and really need to finish them though.
In my defence, I just bought the MG Banshee Norn and I'm so in love with this kit that I just want to learn more about it and YT didn't really help with that. So I decided to binge watch the Anime and it just might be one of the best anime I've ever watched.
Off topic stuff, but I still find it absolutely pathetic that Sunrise and Bandai has not done nothing to change the Gundam franchise for the sake of it gaining more popularity and new fans. By this I mean that every new release uses the same formulaic story, characters and of course the already out of date high emphasis on the mecha themselves. I get that Gundam exists to sell Gunpla, but anime fans these days don't give a damn about giant robots, that shit is old and outdated. Shows like Code Geass demonstrates this change from mecha to characters, and look how popular that show turned out!
Yes this a million times this, I agree with you completely man, I get the whole thing about the shows being there to sell product sure, but if an anime has good fundamentals like Code Geass you’re gonna end up with a huge fan base that could actually draw in new customers to gunpla that wouldn’t of been there otherwise, because in general, anime fans like to consume product through merch so if you can make an amazing Mecha that gets people engaged and caring then boom you have a recipe for first and foremost a fantastic anime and secondly a fantastic marketing/sales opportunity for gunpla It’s a win-win but I guess it just takes too much effort? I find it really interesting that you enjoyed Zoids Wild and Gurren Lagann but not Chaotic Century? Gundam I get because it is quite different and more Robot centred, but if you’re referencing Wild Zero it’s got a very similar tone to Chaotic Century as it’s directed by the same guy and more war/plot driven then flashy robot driven. If you actually are referencing the original Wild I’d be interested to know what you see in it though, because I definitely loved Gurran Lagann but could not for the life of me get into Zoids Wild.

As for the original Wild, I can't put my finger on it but it probably has to do the Zoids being given more personality, the characters being enjoyable to watch(like with new century zero), the show being different from other mech shows(like with ssss. There’s definitely a lot to choose from! If you’re interested in Gundam I’d say Unicorn and Iron Blooded Orphans are good places to start. In general though anime like Code Geass, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Cowboy Bebop and Attack on Titan are fantastic places to start.
Mainly because watching the other series isn’t a necessary requirement to watch Unicorn. While yes, the context is great to have, some people might not be sold on the older animation for example. So I don’t see much of a point in egging people on to watch the originals if it’s something they might not enjoy to begin with. Unicorn is at the end of the day a stand-alone story so at the very least if someone watches it first, they see arguably some of the best Gundam has to offer and if they’re still not really a fan they just won’t go back and watch the older series.
Because some people just don't want to get their way through 150 series of ancient animation to reach their destination, so they could just resign on Gundam.
Could you rate the best to worst gundams shows or just best and worst mechs. Also those title for a video are quite controversial. If you hurt the feelings of fanbois because of your opinion
Avengers endgame is a standalone movie. You can enjoy and appreciate it without seeing a single second of any other MCU movie. But is it optimal to just watch endgame?
Unicorn is not a good entry.. the whole "new type" thing is too much for anyone. Wing is a better gate to the franchise.. there's a reason why it reached the west the way it did.
I agree the New Type thing can be pretty confusing. However to me at least Unicorn still acted really well as a stand alone story and the fact it’s short and sweet makes it less daunting for newcomers to the series, and if you watch Unicorn and hate it, I’d be pretty confident you won’t like many other Gundam series and at least you didn’t need to waste too much time on a longer series. Wing is a great entry to the franchise too though I can’t deny that, and a lot of people grew up with it as well, but for a newcomer with the way seasonal anime is nowadays being 12 episodes each, a 49 episode anime could be pretty daunting so I feel like in that aspect it doesn’t work as well as an entry point to Gundam

079 is the best place to start or The Origin

Thats fine but have you shown them gundam the origin or thunderbolt. There's are still a good amount of modern gundam ova's that can act as a gateway.
