Aaliyah came out on the music scene when I was 13 and then I told people when I become a mom and if it's a girl I'm naming her after Aaliyah because it was a beautiful name. I got a chance to meet her in 1997 at a restaurant my brother worked at and she was so humble and sweet and signed her name on the One In A Million CD I had and still have to this day. I was devastated when she passed and in 2008 my first child was born, I named her Aaliyah and she just turned 16 last week. RIP Aaliyah.

That intro!!!! Goosebumps! Aaliyah is really the blueprint for so many of todays artist not only with music but fashion and makeup. I had huge posters of her on my wall, her cds. I wish they gave her; her own doll 😩 Thankyou for the clips telling people the CORRECT PRONUNCIATION of her name because people will argue you down online about how to say her name when it’s pronounced AH-LEE-YAH not UH-LEE-YAH I mean it’s on her debut album lol

Im from Detroit, born in 85, and had the honor of witnessing the beautiful journey of Aaliyah "babygirl" during her time in this dimension, which was nothing short of amazing. We were all impacted by her, and her passing affected us all deeply. She was real, had natural street cred, and was who every man in the industry wanted to be with. Our generation prioritized reading and education. Aaliyah was a 4.0 student at DSA here in Detroit. She wasn't just beautiful, but she was also very intelligent and mature. She was cool and stayed away from drama, although there were many who were jealous of her in the industry. Her passing was fishy, and she definitely deserves justice. 2024 is the year of revelation. Long live babygirl.

In light of the recent developments concerning Diddy, I’m glad that Aaliyah didn’t end up working with him on the “One in a Million” album. Take a moment and think of the further physical and emotional damage she may have been subjected to after just having gone through the “R Kelly” part of her young life. Just the thought of what could have happened to her at Diddy’s hands evokes all kinds of negative thoughts in me. This poor girl went through more in her short life than I’ve experienced in all 48 years of my life. She will forever be missed 💕

Whew clock the girls for the correct way to say Aaliyah because a lot of them are new fans, young or not real fans because from jump she told people how to pronounce her name. She was such a natural performer and entertainer. She was involved in everything when it came to her career, the styling, producers and music videos which is what made her an icon, she wasn't trying to be like anyone else, which is why so many new artists fail... the labels are always trying to make them the next such and such rather than developing what they already have. Aaliyah was being who she naturally was

It's terrible how they treated black artists back then it's why I refuse to go in their stores because you can sense they don't want us in there and I am not giving my money to stores who think of us in that way. Aaliyah's OIAM era is still influencing todays artist and generation and some aren't even aware those trends started with her. Despite how short her life was, her legacy will live on. I've worked on a pitch for an Aaliyah biopic, preferably a movie, and created a trailer for it. Hopefully, I’ll have the family’s approval after the 2014 disaster and make tweaks to it. Her biopic deserves to show the world what a true talent she was and that she was more than what R Kelly did to her.

Aaliyah is the DEFINITION OF BLUEPRINT. She’s the it girl in every aspect. Its so sad what happen to her but the fact that she had such a huge impact in such a small time is so iconic. In terms of fashion and pop music I feel like Rihanna kinda continued Aaliyah’s legacy (this may just be my delusion) but if Aaliyah was still here I feel like she would’ve went down the route Rihanna did.

Heavy on the incomparable and I agree completely with being born with the it factor and star quality, there are so many big-name artists right now who are only big due to luck and or nepotism because so many of them lack that. I think they need to bring back auditioning for labels and artist development. the 90s and early 2000s were the last of true real artist, now it's just gimmicks, social media followers and lack of mystery. Aaliyah was not just beautiful but had the talent and was constantly improving on every album a TRUE artist 💖

I love when you showcase the vocals of the artists without the instrumental for us to really hearrrr them sing. Aaliyah is one of those artists like you said was just born with the it factor, classy beautiful and just herself. she wasn't pretending to be something she wasn't and it's annoying how anytime a new artist comes along they compare her to Aaliyah. it's not fair to the new artist and there was only ONE Aaliyah
Edit: I can't believe how blatantly r a c!s+ so many brands were back then with refusing to send black artists clothing, that's a different level of h a t 3

I agree artist should be allowed to just be themselves and not compared to others. Aaliyah was in a lane of her own ✨ the designers back then were disgusting and some still are but it’s low key because they don’t want to be cancelled but so many black artists were denied clothing from luxury brands back in the day, it’s terrible.

@@leiiibyes she had heavy competition but Aaliyah was in her own lane and her only competition was herself. I do believe she would’ve become an even bigger actress due to the fact that she was already working on The Matrix 2 and scheduled to appear in The Matrix 3. The movie Sparkle as well as Honey. So more acting was definitely in her future had she still been alive. Even with her self titled Album Aaliyah was about to dominate the industry.

@@shonnn9320 but that was not the comment that was made, the comment made was she was alreaDy a huge actress and she wasn’t. No one said she wouldn’t have been a huge actress that is literally the point that was made in the video and in my comment

@@kamsismithR. Kelly used to harm her from what I read. I think the song “I Refuse” was about some of the things she endured when she was with R. Kelly. It was nowhere near as bad as what Diddy did to Cassie tho 😢
