I love the "I Wanna Be Down' remix! Everyone did what they had to do and it was perfect! "The Boy is Mine" is also great, I used to modulate my voice so I could do both parts. Singers like her were very inspirational to me because I LOVE music, and seeing how versatile her voice was encouraged me to reach higher and try different vocal styles too. Sade and Toni Braxton were inspirational as well because my voice started out quite low when I was young and I would feel self-conscious but hearing them gave me much confidence and appreciation for my voice. Something that has been missing out of the Brandy “Vocal Bible” conversation is singer/songwriter Rahsaan Patterson’s influence on Brandy’s vocal styling. Rahsaan wrote and produced on Brandy’s first album and im telling you now alot of those riffs and runs have Rahsaan ALL OVER IT. I’m almost positive that it’s how Rahsaan sung the songs on the demo/reference track, and Brandy sung it just like he did. She used the style, took it, ran with it, remixed it a bit on later albums and here we are. But lets put Rahsaan Patterson’s name in the conversation and give the brother some credit.
