    The humans are also remarkable. That guy tackling Clark to save him, the pilot waiting and yelling "get that last guy loaded", and later in the film the Colonel standing up to a Kryptonian. I'm thankful for Zack Snyder that he portrayed us in a good light. He not only highlights the best of Superman, he highlights the best of humanity as well.

      I was a bit confused by this. If he was to try to tackle Superman like that it would have been like hitting a brick wall! I could understand if Clark knew he was going to push him and went along with it. But the guy jumped and tackled him without Clark knowing it was coming.
      A slight over look in the movie. As in the bar scene when the guy tried to shove Clark it only pushed the guy back. Was like trying to push an iron wall back. Same thing should have happened here and had the man trying to save Clark get crushed under the cage while Clark would have been okay.
      Just think how different this scene would have played out if that happened.

    • @kevindavis5966
      @kevindavis5966 3 ปีที่แล้ว +148

      @@OldieWan It's been demonstrated that Clark has to be aware and bracing to resist a force. Something to do with his "personal force field", as even having higher density, he's still less than 300 pounds or so. Having said that, I believe it largely depends on the writer as to what convention is followed.

    • @OldieWan
      @OldieWan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@kevindavis5966 Interesting points. Thanks for sharing that with me here. Yeah I think much of it has to do with who is writing him at the time. Hence my confusion on how this works for him.
      What about a bullet that he is not aware of coming at him. If he didn't know a force like that was coming at him would he no longer be bullet proof?
      Thing is he could hear a bullet being shot from miles upon miles away.
      So lets pretend it was a silent bullet or something that goes beyond on his density thresh hold would it then by pass his personal force field?
      Just all geeky stuff I sometimes enjoy having theories about and or poking holes in fantasy land sciences.

      Never thought of that before. He was struggling because he had to be super precise(pun intended) to make sure to apply just enough force to support the falling structure without destroying it and the foundation under it. In the first Superman movie The antagonist general zod was not established why he turned evil it disagreed with the rest of the inhabitants of Krypton. But in this movie Zod had a meaningful purpose of being a antagonist because he was designed to protect Krypton at all cost even at the cost of another planet and its inhabitants. Not to start a DC versus Marvel War but really what was Thanos is purpose but just a murder everyone in the universe so he can hang his armor up in a field and cook his breakfast sorry but there's no rhyme or reason to his madness it just exists.

      The same way you can stop yourself from being pushed over if you brace, Clark does the same thing and simply becomes a wall lol. But if he actively relaxes, his body weight can be dropped over if he wants. In this scene he obviously saw the man coming and probably noticed the cage mid air, and shifted his weight so he dropped with the tackle. Smallville Clark does the same thing when plays sports or high fives/hugs someone.

    “This isn’t Superman. He’s not bright and shiny with a boyscout personality. The colors are bleak and boring.” Blah blah blah.
    This is the embodiment of Superman. A regular guy, sure he’s an alien with godly powers but he’s just as human as anyone. This was meant to be his origin, his starting point. He was traveling the world helping people, trying to find himself. It reminded me a bit, of the Earth 1 Superman comics. This movie was supposed to lay the foundations that built up to the Superman we all recognize. People complain about him killing Zod. “Zod stop!” ...”Never!”. He had no choice, sure he could have tossed Zod away but then he would risk him killing even more people. Zod’s death and the deaths of the civilians caught in their battle weighed heavily on him, thus cementing his unwillingness to kill. His struggle between whether he should help at all. His suit got brighter every time. So did his personality. But people wanted Christopher Reeve’s Superman instantly. Instead we got a flawed, human character trying to do the right thing as best as he can. I vastly prefer this kind of a Superman, someone many of us can all relate to.

      The thing here is that Superman put a mental block on his powers his whole life didn’t let them evolve. Real superman could have lifted that tower with his pinky or blew at it with his breath to lift it. Zach Snyder had an interview explaining how superman had no idea what his strength was and it was all new so he struggled for that reason.

    The way Zack Snyder brings Superman to us is epic, this is on another level than those ridiculous DC series for teens!
    Here he looks like "mighty" (with superb suit), I might regret the fact he "does his war vs Kryptionians and maybe 1 or 2 more rescue scenes or regular people would have been welcomed", despite some included on whole movie.
    Besides, Cavill, and, special effects on Snyder's movies are very good (Man of Steel has nice CGIs, fighting sequences with Zod, etc., especially if we compare with +10 years later "The Flash" movie where this is ugly... different ethics & teams...).

      There was an interview with Zack Snyder about Superman struggling with things like lifting the drilling tower. His answer was insightful. He said (paraphrasing) that OF COURSE he struggles as he's discovering his powers b/c they're all new to him. WE know Superman has almost unlimited strength, but Clark had no idea what his limits might be. So everytime he encounters something that he hasn't done before, he's always thinking, "this might be the end of me."
      I think knowing that makes the movie even better.

    the details in this scene is priceless. in 1:30 clark using his cold breath to cold down the metal ladder, it's barely noticeable, because he make sure not to use cold breath too much, that will freeze the ladder and make it slippery for others. then in 2:11 clark is screaming like hell, because he is holding that metal tower or whatever the thing from the lowest point of gravitational pull, which make it impossible to lift anything, that's why he needed to scream like that. amazing !

    I still remember the first reaction I had after watching this movie was "Why did Superman kill Zod? How could he ever think of taking a life?"
    If we look at Marvel movies too, villians like Thanos, Hella had to be killed because their existence would result in cost of more lives.
    Therefore Superman killing Zod is not even a point for which we should hate this movie.
    Zack has clearly shown that over the years Clark has lived like a human and exactly wants to live normal.
    I would say those who hate this movie for the above reason and expecting Clark to be like Reeves are dumb!

You have a much better grasp at the sheer strength at his disposal with these gigantic metal structures he is supporting from a less than ideal angle. Also we get to see that even though Superman's power is nearly immeasurable it isnt infinite.

    This scene shows that Clark learned from his father's death to save whomever he can. Jonathan's death...by his own design...was to preserve Clark's anonymity to give him time to become THIS man! Jonathan knew it would be nothing for Clark to save him. He also knew...that it would risk revealing to the world Clark's existence and subject Clark to undo attention perhaps even nefarious intentions by operatives even maybe from our own government who either distrust the existence of someone with that much power, or want to exploit that power. For this reason, Jonathan sacrifices himself. THIS sacrifice gives Clark the time he needs to discover for himself the man he wants to become. It also defines for Clark the main purpose AND motivation to use his powers...to save OTHERS. And thus, Superman is a hero to humanity, rather than a God who demands their worship...or a ruler under whose boots these ants would fall!
