- In this video, I react for the first time to the Canadian artist City & Colour otherwise known as Dallas Green performing a cover of Alice in Chain's song “Rain When I Die”. I analyze his amazing performance, explain and demonstrate his vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. This is an amazing tune and I am so glad I finally reacted to it!

I am so glad you’ve reacted to Dallas Green! PLEEEEEAAAASE check out more of him, he is fkn amazing!!!!
Grand optimist is one of my favorite songs
Wish I could upvote this 10000 times. This channel needs to do a deep dive on Dallas Green. I'd also love to see her hit some Thom Yorke. Maybe In Rainbows, reckoner, something like that.
Dallas Green is a Canadian treasure. His voice should be protected by the Mounties, imo 😂❤
Agreed. Unfortunately, they only protect political interests.
His album, “Little Hell” by City and Colour, is perfection. 🇨🇦
A real treat when you discover the album he made with Pink called You + Me.
Seconded. This album is hella underrated imo, such a masterpiece of emotive vocal performances from both artists.
Very few vocalists age this gracefully. To go back and see what a raw talent he was in the early 2000’s to the incredibly refined talent he is now is astounding.
This is my favorite ever reaction to someone hearing Dallas Green for the first time!! I've lost count of how many times I've watched it. Love it!!
You + Me is Dallas Green and Pink together. They did a cover of Sade's No Ordinary Love that you should check out.
Sidewalks when she walks,by alexisonfire, is good song to check out Dallas’s earlier singing
my fave! 🖤💀
Dallas is an absolute SLAYER..
i was lucky enough to see Dallas play the Sydney Opera House about 10 years ago. perfect setting for an artist as good as he is. guitar only and his hauntingly beautiful voice. dallas is definitely a rabbit hole to happily go down, specially his first 2 albums which are purely voice and acoustic guitar only. his album with Pink as You+Me is also brilliant, my wife walked down the aisle to the title track off that album at our wedding.
Dallas is freaking incredible in concert too. I saw him when he opened for Alice in Chains. So so good.
Please never change how you react to music
I've seen city and colour 7 times. I have bring me your love tattoos. I'm so glad you reacted to my absolute favorite artist.
Welcome to Dallas Green fandom!
Please go down the Dallas Green Rabbit Hole!!! He's such an underrated singer/songwriter. Personally i discovered him last year, and it's my go to music whenever i don't know what i wanna listen to in any given moment. Do "If I Should Go Before You". I almost tear up every time i hear it - and i'm a 47 year old bloke god dammit!! :D
Omg PLEASE check out Alexisonfire! Dallas' smooth vocals mixed with George's screams and Wade's grit is simply perfection. It's hard to suggest only a couple songs since they are literally all good, but This Could be Anywhere in The World and Young Cardinals come straight to mind, and Sweet Dreams of Otherness and Sans Soleil off their most recent album.
The Canadian homies 🥰🤘
The fact that he is the backup vocals for one of the greatest post hardcore bands is still amazing to me
Dallas is soooo good!!! I love his music...it's RIDICULOUS...so talented
Chris Cornell's daughter Lily Cornell did a cover of 'Black Gives Way to Blue" from the same Alice in Chains tribute that this cover came from. Her voice is beautiful.
Listen, I have been a die hard Dallas Green fan since like 05’. I saw him live 10 times with both of his bands. I could never understand why is voice is so magical, you just explained it to me in a couple of minutes ❤. Thank you.!!! This dude his a hidden treasure.
Btw, in his live CBC performance of Bow Down To Love, he absolutely belts a couple of lines, if you want to hear him go hard. ❤
I'm excited you did this as I've been requesting him for years to many vocalists.
I loooooove City and Colour (Dallas Green). I'm so glad someone put you onto them!
" it would be perfectly fine...but it wouldn't be THIS"- Quote of the Decade, that!
You literally made the faces and had the reaction we all felt. It is really hard to deny talent and emotion when someone is just ripping through the heartstrings. Love the channel!
Dallas green is a legend! Listen to rose ave. He did with pink. Amazing.
I watched this performance many times after the live, and it's still worth watching your analysis again it's so good.
Listen to the entire album "The Love Still Held Me Near", definitely react to "meant to be" and "underground" both album and his acoustic versions. I was lucky enough to see him this past year in support of this album and what an absolute joy to see him do his thing live. I first found him when Alexisonfire randomly came on with "this could be anywhere in the world" and then randomly came across his solo project months later. This guy should be far more mainstream than he is.
Check out his cover of Hometown Glory by Adele at Royal Albert Hall. The balls to do that song in that Hall.....
You will not believe it.
Dude.... absolutely. He killed that...... the guy is just brilliant. Makes us mortal human singers want to hang up the 'ol gloves
Yeah Dallas (City) Green (Colour) does that to people 😁 I remember picking my jaw up off the floor hearing his first album years ago. Please do more!
Love Dallas Green. More City and Color please!
Dallas Green is an absolute treasure! Whether it is with his own project C&C or his other band Alexisonfire it's always a good time. Have both slow danced and been bruised in a pit drenched in beer to this man's music.
So happy to see you're reacting to Dallas! Too few people know of him! He's also in Alexisonfire - Another incredible band!
This song is my absolute favorite AIC song, and this is an incredible cover. 🤗
Oh yeah. This cover made me appreciate the original, which I overlooked at first
Same!
Finally! Dallas Green is 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Perfect song..voice…audio…setting 💥🕊❤️✨ Control x 20
His voice reminds me of Kenny Rankin's. Lolli, I bet you'd LOVE Rankin! Do you ever do reactions of performers who are no longer with us?
You need to do more of his stuff. ASAP
Its always a pleasure to see you get so excited by a song!
Dallas said he learnt to sing by listening to Layne Staley. Check out the live version of Love, Hate, Love by AiC to see what Dal means.
Absolutely brilliant cover! 😃🤘
More City and Colour!!! Dallas, though well loved for sure, is still so incredibly underrated that it makes me sick, lol. You literally can't miss with him, he's one of the most consistently amazing singers I've ever seen (I've seen him live twice and he's even better), and his songwriting matches it.
Great reaction! Looking forward to seeing him this summer. 😎
I saw Dallas in Edmonton in February, absolutely phenomenal performance. It's definitely worth checking out other songs. A true Canadian treasure!
♥️ Dallas.
Awesome! Definitely the best AIC cover out there. Other AIC covers leave me feeling like it's off because the vocalist is so far off from Layne. Dallas isn't the same, but is definitely at the same level of quality vocally so he totally pulls this off for me. A beautiful and touching tribute to AIC, the best of that event for sure.
omg yes. this is such a powerful performance
I saw City and Colour live in a small venue, one of my core memories. Also he is part of a band called Alexisonfire which probably the polar opposite of this.
You are wonderfully brilliant.!! Talents x 10!!! U should be the juggernaut personality of a company!!! I’m gonna win the lottery, and we will change the world!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was about to say "Thank you for introducing me to this artist, he sounds lovely" but then I was like "wait... this voice... sounds familiar..." and saw some comments about alexisonfire... I've been sleeping on this... Thank you for RE-introducing me to this- is what I would like to say
Great human, I've toured with them. I didn't give them a shot when I was younger, but having met them and really heard their music, my son is now a fan
This is fantastic
It has been ages since you did Dimash, so enjoyed your past reactions to our angel, have you heard Omir yet, with his brother Mansur playing the guitar, it is so beautiful. I hope you find time to do it for us Dears.
Glad to watch unicorns with you.😊
Miss Lady, your eye color is just dreamy. Dont know what it is lately, but you are definitely looking right beautiful. The original version by Alice and Chains is fire as well...🎶
so, so glad to see city and colour get more recognition. this cover is incredible, but his whole catalogue is tough to beat!
Dallas green is my favourite 🎉
I wish I could like this video more times. It slaps every time. Can I PLEASE have you analyze my voice? It would be a dream come true. You feel music the way that I do. My family looks at me like a crazy person when I cry to a song. I'm just glad I'm not alone. Just know that I really appreciate you.
This guy and Alexisonfire as a whole are from very close to where I grew up. Not many good things come out of Ontario but this guy sure is one of them
This reminds me of SYML - "The War" [Live From St. Mark's]
Just a room, a singer and a microphone, and a few instruments.
I really think you would love to hear this. Even if you dont react to it. I think you would enjoy it on your own time. He.. Not even sure how to describe it. Really have to hear what he does with his voice in that room with those acoustics.
SYML - "The War" [Live From St. Mark's]
Hello sweet fairy , missed you ❤🎉
Dallas Green (City & Colour, get it? 😊) is an amazing vocalist and musician. You should check out Sleeping Sickness, the version with Gord Downie - another legendary Canadian singer. Love your videos, Lolli!
My first time hearing this cover and he did an awesome job.
Now you need to check out the original with the haunting harmonies that I'm sure you will love as a vocal coach.
Annnnddddddd welcome to the Dallas Green show, where you will never wanna leave. Then just when you think your heard all of him….. his old band Alexisonfire ignites the flame once more 🥰😎🙌🏻
Wow. 🤯
I'm a simple person. Dallas Green is immediate love. Great commentary.
Check out him and Pink's version of No Ordinary Love
Awesome 👌 , would like to have some lower end in the guitar, , nice to hear Dallas its been a while 😊
Si pudiera cantar así no volvería a hablar jamás.
When you started to freak out all I could was “Yeah no that’s just Dallas” 😂 I’m glad you loved it, play around with Day Old Hate at some point, you’ll love it
Dallas green. Another Canadian boy whose absolutely killing it.
You should do "This could be anywhere in the world" by Alexisonfire. Dallas does clean vocals in that band.
It's a great cover, the pain in Layne's voice in the original is on another level tho, would be nice to see a reaction to the original.
Dallas Green actually had a different band for many years and the music was wildly different. Alexisonfire if you want have a listen
🤘🕊❤️🤘
Your choices are wonderful and your analysis is enjoyable. I am happy to listen to you. There is a singer named Fawzia. I would like you to analyze her voice and give us your opinion of her. Thank you.
dallas has recorded an album with pink
Now do the Fishbone cover of Them Bones!!
Love your analysis. I don't know if you have looked at Breaking Benjamin, but if not, please do.
Try the live acoustic version of his song off his newest album "meant to be" it's a bloody gem like this one!
this isnt even his best vocal performance honestly dude is unreal, seen him live at Royal Albert Hall in 2011 was simply unreal
NUTSHELL
Check the original, makes this just as special. Amazing.
Great reaction! Something similar recommended: Falling in Reverse Last Resort Reimagined
Technically I can appreciate this, but it simply doesn't connect with me personally.
But that's the great thing about music. Each to their own.
You have to hear the original to appreciate this version.
Please react to City and Colour Nutshell (Alice in Chains cover) 🤗
Your face turned as red as your hair towards the end there lol
Great analysis, this cover is not for me though. I mean - the original hits the feels like a monsoon rain, while this has all the emotional impact of seeing a beautiful butterfly spreading its little wings just as the sun comes up. I do hope Alice In Chains will gain some new fans thanks to mister Greens light and tender version of this excellent song, from one of the best albums of the 90:s!
Cool version, but Layne Staley's voice on the original is untouchable.
Is this a joke? The balls of this song are completely gone, wtf who approved of this.
😱 Promo`SM
Well this very different from Alice in Chains original. Prefer the original, but an interesting take.
PLEASE CHECK OUT HIS COVER OF ALICE IN CHAIN'S NUTSHELL.
You can't beat the originators. Alice In Chains version of Nutshell is untouchable. First reaction should be to their version.
I'm torn between admiration for the choice of song and disgust for not choosing the ACTUAL song. Layne's voice on this tune is mind blowing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE listen to the original. This is great and all... but NOTHING beats the OG.
Nice cover, but Layne was better. So sad he's gone......
I think I’m the minority for sure, but this did not need covered.
Alice in Chains asked him to cover it for their MoPop tribute.
@@charlenemachine208 okay
Still not needed. Did nothing to enhance the song.
Stripped to much emotion from the song. But is the MO of current music, on the grid without emotion
@@johncondon4081 Ha! Okay buddy.
I may be in an island here, but this version does absolutely nothing for me. He is clearly an amazing singer and a talented guitar player. And I would assume a decently knowledgeable AIC fan., Since this particular song is not one of their hit singles. No doubt he has an emotional connection to this song or I imagine he might have approached it in a different manner. Objectively I think he did a perfect rendition, more in the style of Unplugged, and he did the best anyone could do without a vocal harmony accompaniment. Almost sounds more like Radiohead doing an Alice In Chains song. Subjectively tho, it’s just not for me. I’ve literally moshed to this song at Alice In Chains concerts. To me the original song is untouchable and I love it heavy and sludgy and powerful. I think he did an incredible job, performing this song solo, it’s just not for me. Enjoyed watching the analysis and reaction though! And I encourage anyone out there not familiar with the original album version of this song, to go check it out. It is a masterpiece in its own, right.
