This was the most beautiful cover of an Alice In Chains song I’ve ever heard in my life.
He does a mean cover of nutshell too.
Still prefer the original, but this definitely was a punch in the heart
and worst
Nah
Definitely (if you haven't already) check out his cover of Nutshell!
This really exposes the sadness and beauty of this song in a completely different light.
Agreed.
Seriously 👍
nutshell by Dallas is amazing too
Yep like Sleep Tokens cover of Hey Ya
This is my all time favorite AIC song. And to hear it like this... so fragile, so beautiful. It cuts right through my soul. Thank you Dallas Green for this wonerful rendition.

Goddamn this is one of the best things I've ever heard. It triggers something inside me I can't put words to, but very emotional to say the least. Props to you Dallas Green, and RIP Layne, I hope you can hear him singing
Wow! One of the best Alice covers I've ever heard.
Love Dallas and love Layne. Wish I would’ve had the chance to see Layne in person… this one got me choked up
He is my GOAT. No one sings better, no one csn do anything like he can. He dezerves everythi g good in his life
Layne is smiling...
Keep coming back to this version! Absolutely amazingly beautiful....
Best music ever
Shed tears on this one. Shit.
My eyes got a glistening as well.

For me, this was one hell of a introduction to City and Colour. Absolutely blown away by this performance. Layne was such a unique vocalist, to cover his music is no easy task. To do this in your own style and make it work this well is a testament to your own talents. For an encore I'd like to request Love, Hate, Love.
Man he was super famous among acoustic indie people on myspace.. He's been around a while. Go listen to his myspace transmissions
He played guitar and was the clean vocalist for Alexisonfire, where he started.
He’s done a cover of Nutshell too, it’s great
I wish I could be you and rediscover him all over again ❤️
Dallas is something isn’t he? It was a treat to see him in NYC but even better in our new “home town” several months before covid. His albums have evolved from acoustic to ensemble. High suggestion, listen to the 2 albums, in this order, Bring Me Your Love, then Little Hell. You’re welcome 🤞🏼
We need a 'Dallas in Chains' album. He totally stole the show.
An album full of AIC covers, that would be great indeed
And have the guys play on the album as features.
Yeeeesss!!!!!!!
YES.
You Meant fishbone
I think Layne would have shed a tear in that room.
yeah he would shed a tear because this sucks and its his song
Iv heard hundreds of people sing this song. I’d like to think this would be one of the few Layne would enjoy
Listen to his cover of Nutshell, amazing!
@@briankrane5546you're crazy. You'll hate me but this guy's a better overall vocalist than Layne. Layne is iconic. But this isn't layered tracks. Quit gatekeeping.
@@briankrane5546 ignorant
When I think of AIC songs that would sound good in an acoustic setting, Rain When I Die wouldn't be one of them. Props to this guy for pulling off masterfully
I know Right! . . Maan sgooshit.
Literally thought the same thing until he hit "I think it's gonna rain.." Definitely not a City and Colour fan at all but this dude has a pretty killer voice and made this song his own
You have never bumped into Dallas before?
I agree with you for sure but am also reminded that most of their stuff was written first on acoustic guitars as far as I know. That one is a big departure for sure though. I went back and listened to the original just now and was blown away by the intro. These two compliment each other nicely.
the melody itself def works, the only reason people wouldnt immediately think so is because of all of the Jerry-distortion goodness and Layne-isms.
I’ll never forget watching this entire gig in my band mates house. Who are all die hard AIC fans, like their whole life is influenced by these guys, like I would be but they are a different level. And we were all chatting and talking shit and as soon as this came in there was silence… and the silence that followed the song was much greater than the track running time. Absolutely Beautiful.
I hear and feel you mate. I watched this all alone in my room. This ended and I was in tears and did not do or feel nothing for at least the next 10 minutes or so. Haunting performance.
I’m onboard. Absolutely stunning.
that would have been so cool
Jesus..
Oh my god if I could sing like this I’d just never speak. Every goddamn thing I ever say would just be sung.
I live my life jealous of people that can sing well. Body yawn, good looks yawn, money yawn.
It wouldn't bother me if a woman sang like this but as a dude (I think??), it is disturbing.
@@invaliduserid5807 wow man, way to regress masculinity back a few decades.
@@invaliduserid5807 wait til you hear Prince!
@@tommydacomicguy741 I couldn't recall him really singing in a high voice so I watched a handful of songs on YT and did find some. Prince was very different from Dallas even if they both sing in a high voice for at least some of their songs. Prince was incredibly talented from writing most, if not all, of his own music, to playing any instrument he wanted. From singing as high or low he wanted to "owning" his unique personal style. I would even go as far as to say "there'll never be another guy who can be as unique and talented as Prince." Prince has credibility that Dallas will never match and his personality was bigger than he was. He spent years building his brand and nobody can question the level that he attained. He's not just some guy who totally castrated someone else's song where someone else built their brand on a low, raspy voice. That voice spawned many imitators and that voice didn't "puss up" someone else's song. That voice developed his own style and has many followers who are fiercely loyal.
Dallas is no Prince.
This is, by far, one of my favorite covers of an AIC song.
Someone that's not trying to copy Layne, but taking the song, and making it their own, while paying homage to the original artists.
Beautiful job.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Like what Johnny cash did with what was Trent reznsor's hurt
it's too soft. layne gave it grit. i love that dallas did this but it's a pillow on REAL suffering vs the emo shit he came up with writing with alexis and early C&C
@furthurondown I understand the sentiment. The original is angry and full of defiance. This cover, and the way it is sung, especially after Layne's passing sounds like someone who is resigned to his fate and given up. That is what made it resonated with me.
I wish Korn would have done the same, but with "God am" imagine that.
Just heard this now for the first time. In-fucking credible.
welcome to the addiction pall.
God was like, "And you can have the greatest voice."
This currently has over 1M views and at least 500 of them are me. It's fucking incredible. I can't get enough
Layne would be a proud man 🤘🏻

This is a gorgeous version of a timeless, intense song.
Yes...
You're rigth! This is awsome!

wise enough to see this is timeless most importantly, gets my thumbs up...and that you said it was beautiful..almost as if you're a bot programmed to hit on all the right notes of human emotion..lol.who knows for sure right?....but anyway, I agree because all he was fucking immortal man..READ IT ALL. AND THEN lISTEN TO IT all. LAYNE STALEY. It all easily makes him a top five maybe the greatest some argue and for me , the one whose voice haunts me the most in rock in a beautiful dark way, it's his.

@@danalombardijr5563 you will probably also appreciate his version of nutshell. It’s on YT as well.

Same bub.
I still remember Dallas posting a couple of years ago when he first fronted for AIC, he posted an image of him in an AIC t-shirt with AIC posters in the back. He was prob 15 or 16 and he said that opening for AIC was a full-circle moment. That night, Jerry Cantrell gave him his guitar. Seeing this... him take a classic AIC and make it his own is just superb.
A cover that doesnt copy the original, but bends and tames the words and music into another beautiful performance, this is it...
This is an unbelievably powerful cover of one of the greatest songs ever written in a completely different style. I'm blown away.
Holy wow that was amazing! I love AiC and the song, but this was just as intense. Glad I stumbled across it tonight!

Oh my fucking god man. Thus is absolutely beautiful and the fact that it's not really changed it's all the same notes just with a slightly slower rhythm and more predominantly sung. I found this cover last night and have listened to it, roughly, 50 times since...it's hauntingly beautiful
Bizarrely appropriate rendition. Juxtaposes the gnashing primal original with a eloquently deconstructed version. Unexpectedly beautiful. I know Dallas is talented, but AiC has a significant place in my musical and emotional consciousness, as their music helped articulate emotions and pain I was unable to grasp or face. It's as though the song is presented in a more mature/aged manner, perhaps it's just more of my projection. He did a wonderful job, thank you for this rendition.
