Eddie and Chris Cornell for me have voices that just open different portals in the universe. Unbelievably powerful but gentle at the same time. Perfect tone and pitch in telling a story, and the melody brings the emotions out the person listening.
And just like that, another person falls instantly in love with Eddie Vedder.

There have been two generations since Pearl Jam. To young people today, Pearl Jam is like Buddy Holly was to us, in the 90's; many of them just aren't going to be aware of old bands.

I can't imagine not knowing the music of Pearl Jam. The 90s certainly was a special time to be alive. One of the greatest concerts I have ever been to.

To see this first reaction to our most beloved drama queen... priceless. And I don't mean this disrespectful, he was pure drama at that time. And still alive. That's what we all loved. This courage to feel that deep in front of an ever growing audience... It takes some balls to do that.
I don't know how many people he saved with his words and his beautiful voice, but I'm definitely one of them.
What I love most about Vedder's voice is the way he communicates not just emotion but a vulnerability. He always feels like he's confiding in us, with his sudden highness sounding almost like a moment of being overwhelmed by what he's feeling. It's such an intimate experience.

This song is a great example of what made Grunge so special. The best bands were expressing raw emotion, which had been missing from much of the corporate crap of the late 80s that immediately preceded Grunge.
Grunge unplugged is like rock meets country and cranks it up to 11 as if it's a concert on the last day before the asteroid takes us all out. It's the best of all worlds. You don't get to hear rock get that vulnerable or country get that raw but in grunge unplugged they do. Guys like Tyler Childers sounds like that. I felt like that's where Kurt would have been heading.

They were my dad’s favourite of all time too. They were the first band I saw live (when I was 10) with him and we saw them again years later together. We played Just Breathe at his funeral in July.

Ahhh, back when MTV was good!!! The unplugged series was one of the best programs they had on air. Saw them back in the 91 when 10 came out. It was a killer concert. Eddie has a very unique and distinct voice. The 80s and 90s were an awesome time to be alive.

Fun fact you should consider is Eddie didn’t actually want to release this song. It was so emotional for him when he wrote this he didn’t want it out there. So when you listen to it keep in mind the emotional aspects of things and how he uses his voice to project those emotions

You need to listen to more Eddie. He sang with so much heart. Beautiful voice and powerful. It pulls you in and makes you feel!
A lot of words to say, "I love Eddie Vedder."
This is Gen X music, and I appreciate the fact that you appreciate it because it meant a lot to us at the time. The process you go through here trying to figure out what exactly Eddie is saying is what every single Gen X'er in college tried to figure out at the time. What exactly are the lyrics? Once you know what they are, you never forget them and the song means that much more to you and you never understand how you didnt recognize it initially. This song, and more specifically this performance made Eddie a legend.
It's also older millennial music. This is what we grew up listening to as we grew up. Sure, I was only 5 when this came out so I didn't understand it but it was the *sounds* I grew up on.
I was one year old when they released their first album, even though, I knew who they were during my teenage years, and my parents never listened to them, my parents were more into 60's to 80's songs. I can't believe it either that's still people who don't know Pearl Jam. And I'm Brazilian!
It still means a lot to us. It's so cutting every time we lose one of these people who meant so much. I was 18 when this came out. It was a real shock to me when kurt died, then as they continued to fall, from Michael hutchence, Shannon hoon, Layne, Scott, prince, Tom petty, Chris, Chester, even sinead, it's a real killer, knife in the heart. We have Billy Corgan, Eddie Vedder and Billy from Green day ... what the he'll? Robert plant mick jagger and Paul McCartney are here but our generations heroes are clocking out.
