Hey Joe, I thought this was a real nice, well thought out review. We have been using Delonghi super automatics at work for years, and you're right, they cannot make real espresso. Which is your favorite super automatic machine thus far? All the best, Tom
@@JoeyVaracalli Thanks for that, Joe. Where can one get a Terra Kaffe machine? Is that American or German? Which Delonghi do you like best? We use a cheap ECAM 221.
Finally someone actually speaking about the steam! It's true, it does not give you the sleekest froth and it's very much puffed up for all sort of coffees. But I've worked it out :) So basically you should try moving the milk around in the jug, in a way that it stirs while the steam is injected in it. I get so much better texture for the froth. Something that I have not been able to find an answer for is that apart from the heavy froth it makes, there is some amount of water dripping within the steam. I'm not sure if that's normal or something is wrong with it; It should be a solid steam only of what I know from my experience with coffee machines!
Is your review about the Philips or super automatics in general? While you explanation about the features seem to be about to machine itself, the drawbacks seem to be inherent to at least the lower priced super automatics.
Yeah I mean it’s a bit of both I always make sure people know what they are getting when they buy a super auto vs an automatic like a breville. The breville will be more of a pain to use but better end product if your use to a full body espresso shot. The super automatic is great in terms of usability but end product won’t be as good mostly due to the brew basket
Hi. I have set the temperature to maximum. However, milk coffees (latte ,cappuccino) are not coming hot.Coffee tastes great however its luke warm. Is there any other setting I'm missing?
Hello, I’d like to ask if you’ve tried the version of this machine that has an Iced coffee feature instead of americano? The coffee it gives is extremely hot (no temperature control) which makes sense but now in retrospect it feels like a quite useless feature to have? As I am not sure what differentiates it from the normal coffee option, and since I guess adding ice to an espresso shot works too.
I have not used it but if the water temperature doesn’t change it’s the dumbest feature I have ever heard of lol 😂. My favorite way to make an iced americano is pull a shot over a ton of ice and steam the espresso with ice till it melts a bunch of the ice then top with more ice. Makes it almost like a nitro cold brew it’s pretty cool
@@JoeyVaracalli yeah I feel silly now, I didn’t see the americano version at the store I got it from however But do you not fear that too much ice waters down the taste completely? That’s my main concern and why I used to let coffee cool down lol not so practical
@@nctsgrass I do it all the time at the end of the day what matters is the amount of dosed coffee vs the amount of time water runs over the puck in my opinion
The wheel that sets the degree of grinding of the coffee must never be turned when the machine is stationary, it is acted upon one step at a time, only when it grinds the coffee.
im sorry i don’t get what you mean, we should turn it to finest (for example) setting while the machine is about to grind the coffee ? Not while it’s not on?
@@nctsgrass The grind setting of the machine must be adjusted to change the coffee granularity only when it is running. That is, you start making a short espresso, and when it begins to grind, that’s when you need to turn the grind adjustment knob.
@@maryo oh really? I just clicked down on the knob and turned it to the finest setting… I’ll check again once I do make a coffee because it seemed to have worked that way
I have just bought this I got it on sale black Friday in UK for £300 . To be honest not sure it's worth it yet. 😕 Am hoping the coffee tastes better when I change over the beans? Seems bitter. Not looking forward to working out any cleaning or maintenance on it
@JoeyVaracalli I am kinda disappointed only because I expected a better taste with the beans, still it's a step up from tassimo pods my way. Just looking at the cleaning process and oil removal process videos.
My recommendation would be to make two shots of espresso over ice and add cold milk. Or do a drip over ice and maybe set the temp to the lowest setting.
I mean the best machine wouldn’t be a super automatic in my opinion. But if your asking I think one of my favorite is the lelit Bianca. If your talking super automatic I think the tk02 looks very promising but it’s not out yet or the delonghi dinamica
Instead of wasting a first shot of espresso due to temperature issue, couldn’t you just use the hot water pipe to help the boiler warm up and not waste any coffee?
You have to buy specific low oil beans or you'll regret it. The typical beans in the grocery are not. Both my machine and my mother's has been clogged in a place thats not accessible and had to be sent back to philips. They say its a common issue when I called them.

Honestly my two favorite so far are Terra kaffe and delonghi. Best features/value for your money Terra kaffe. Delonghi best shots of espresso

Well that’s great info I’ll have to try that on the next super automatic I review
Have you found out whether the water pouring out of the steam wand is normal or an anomaly in these machines ?
