One and a half to two hours for lunch!! Incredible, I remember my lunch block in high school being only a half hour, and I feel like it sets us up well for the expectations we'll have in the workplace of short / nonexistent lunch breaks in the US.

Yeah, lunch breaks definitely aren't valued in the US like they are in France...we have 1-1.5 hour lunch breaks at work as well!

When I worked as a sub high school teacher here in California one school had pizza offered every day in their cafeteria! Terrible! Then you wonder why your child needs anti depressants or has ADHD?

I wish I could leave a photo caption of what my high school cafeteria served for lunch (American)😂. The average meal was served on a three section styrofoam tray, with the main being a low quality cheese burger (cheapest beef, cheese, and white bun available), canned mushy and salty carrots, ranch dressing, apples the size of a mandarin orange, a milk jug, and maybe a chocolate pudding cup. I believe that meal was $10. We also served snacks that were variations of deep fried junk, packaged snacks cakes/honeybuns, and frozen orange juice cups.
I heard a podcaster recently say that being healthy and avoiding toxins in the US requires you to make health your 9-5 job, while in Europe it's something people don't even have to think about. The things I would do to help our country become more collectivist and healthy like you guys.

I lived 7 years in US and eating healthy there was not affordable for me. Fresh food is too expensive there, that's what people don't understand. The poorer people are in US, the less healthy they eat. It's a whole economic and social scenario that doesn't make healthy eating possible to everyone. There are no supermarkets with fresh food in poorer neighborhoods.

As an American, I really noticed this in high school when my lower middle class family was getting fast food or cooking frozen pizzas almost everyday for dinner and the upper middle class friends I had would have these beautiful home cooked balanced meals every night with vegetables. Canned corn was the only vegetable on my dinner table and I never ate fresh vegetables until my mid-20s. The system is rigged against us

    • @Edukalebylucie

Absolutely!! It's a huge privilege to be able to eat healthily in the US. In France it's different.

Sometimes is problem, because people think only fresh and organic in healthy. That food is expencive and sometimes even doesn't justify its high price. But healthy food is also beans, legumes, potatoes, eggs. We don't need big bowl of salad with 15 ingridients + avocado every day. Simple stew with beans and potatoes, piece of wholegrain bread and one piece of fruit is excellent healthy dinner. With almoust no cost.

Lucie, thank you so much! Your channel is not just super interesting of course but since I found it yesterday it’s already impacted me so positively. I took an hour for breakfast and again for lunch. And then an hour or so eating with a best friend. Today was a much less disordered eating day for me. I followed a lot of what you’re making me aware of. A huge problem/correlation for me has been disordered eating with workaholism. Today was so much better with both conundrums. ❤

its the same in latin america!! we eat in family, at the same table, and everyone has the same meal. kids will usually have ''kid's food'' as a mid-afternoon snack, that would be cookies, cake, fruit, juice or chocolate milk but breakfast, and specially lunch, also dinner, will be like that! homemade cooked healthy/balanced food. at least in brazil

Tangential to your discussion but I think important to point out, the length of time French students enjoy to have their lunch, if viewers were wondering, results in a longer school day. In Pezanas where we stay most Summers, school ends at 5:00 pm.

YES you are totally right, it's not as if lunch takes time from other subjects, the school days are from 8-5 or 8-6 most days. Awesome that you stay in Pézenas!

👋 fabulous video!!!!! So much needed! Your vids have helped me so much Lucie💜plan balanced meals, etc keep up the great work👍👍its pitiful here in the US the kids menus in restaurants are never healthy. Fish sticks with fries, grilled cheese with chips, etc why not offer a mini portion of meatloaf with potatoes and vegetables? Restaurants take heed here! One reason America is a sickly nation. Young parents reading this stop now feeding your kiddos junk. Just order an extra healthy entree for your toddler, then take the rest home for the next day. 🙏💜from California 🏝️🌸ps: your skin looks so luminous plz do an updated skincare routine video

I'm a bit confused as to how a baguette with jam and some hot chocolate is healthier than most Americam breakfasts. The baguette is white, refined carbs, right? And adding jam is adding more refined carbs. And the hot chocolate is even more sugar?
Maybe it's the quality of these items rather than things like refined carb, fat and sugar intake? I've always wondered this myself.
Mh daughter has something like Cheerios with almond milk and some blueberries for breakfast. I grew up the same. If we had toast it was whole grain. But I did notice thatmost of my friends had white breads and they got the less healthy cereals. I was always in shock when I'd visit their homes for play dates. And I didn't care for their foods and i also figured their parents must love them very much to serve such unhealthy foods. 😂
Now I do take my daughter to McDonald's or another fast food place maybe two or three times per month...and I KNOW that's crappy food.

Obesity feeds into health issues thus keeping big pharma with fat pockets. Plus the government doesn't push a focus on nutrition and health here in the US.

when i was in middle school i just chose to buy the fruit and salad for lunch (in the US) but we were in a more well off neighborhood so the school was better funded for literally everything. When i got to high school, we had way more options but the schools partnered with several fast food places to serve some of their foods in the cafeterias. I basically started just bringing my own food bc i didn't like eating such heavy foods during the day. if we didn't have those options, i probably would have just skipped lunch bc the school cooked foods were not appetizing at all.

I grew up on french influence my husband is very American, never feels full, is on a diet non stop i wish things were different. Food is my love language no guilt no restrictions no extreme craving. Can't wait to have kids and teach them better. I never ever struggle with weight or having to go to the gym regularly I don't drive much don't sit on the TV much for him cleaning and cooking or doing activities in the house standing is work not fun. I wish he was raised different in that sense because I don't want to spend the day on the couch for convenience and then go to the gym to exert myself. It feels so contradictory. I love him but I feel life would be easier if those habits were just part of living life . And not things you have to do to stay healthy or I'm shape. I don't think I can convince him you can enjoy food and not gain weight. He is so used to yummy food being ice cream and chips in excessive amount. I enjoy processed food sometime but my body physically cannot handle a lot of it or even often . I don't want my future children to struggle like this. Food is what hold us together in my culture and my family. Taking that out of a romantic relationship is strange. He enjoys it but then feels bad or gross mostly due to overeating. So I just keep it to myself 😢
