got my nc a few months before, just hit the 1000 miles with it and let me tell you The car makes you with smile when you see it in the morning, putting the top down with the engine sounds echoing in the garage. the shift into 1st makes you feel things, godshift and start. then going at like 40 mph and you already feel like its a good speed for cruising, not because its scary but just because the wind just feels right and the engine sound feels perfect. Anyway you enjoy every turn, every shift, and all that with a fun little sound coming out the exhaust. Feels like the perfect exhaust to make you smile and enjoy the sound it makes without being loud and annoying everybody. Then you reach your destination feeling kind of sad at the idea of it being the end of the drive. You park it, watch the dash (that btw looks fuckin amazing at night) and watch the mazda logo and feel amazed. then get out with a 2 step process, spin 90degres (using you arm to actualy like turn 90 degres to the left and then just standing up). Closing the frameless window door and walking away from it without managing to look at it. You then work while just wanting to finish your shift and go for your drive back home. That was my review and feels about that therapeutic car. Hope you enjoyed reading that (not a native english speaker)
I have one as my 2nd car and absolutely love it! I've nicknamed it the Therapy car because it's impossible not to smile driving it hard and the 7500 RPM Redline is just pure adrenaline. I'll end up doing my grocery store runs in it too and people look at me funny when I put 4 large paper bags worth of stuff in the trunk but hey it fits!
My "happy car" was my '06 e46 m3 6spd convertible. Bone stock since I was young and didn't care about modding yet. When my mom passed away freshman year of college, I used to call a few of my buddies up and we'd take a mini roadtrip from NYC to Philly for cheesesteaks in the middle of the night. My e46 was like therapy. It was fast, comfortable (debatable tbh), and with the top down - glorious.
Interesting you mention that car as I’m torn between a E46 M3 convertible and ND2 Miata… Saving 1000lbs is appealing but so is taking my kids kids with me.
Actually the infotainment screen IS touchscreen, just not when you're moving! On ND2's, however, there is an easy way to override the touchscreen lockout using the JCI Test mode.
Honestly seems like an excellent idea. Having to go through the infotainment for basic radio functions and climate control is not only stupid but dangerous. Tactile buttons let you know you just did something. A touch screen sometimes has a quiet beep that can barely be heard over any noise. While you look over to find where to tap the screen and see if your tap actually did something. Look up and there is car infront of you its a car at a dead stop and it's far too late to stop.
@Alex-zy7ot how does the Miata feel vs the 86. I find the 86 steering to be very sharp and direct but no feel. I've heard the Miata doesn't want to return to center as strongly and also has no feel in the steering. Would love your thoughts on the two cars drivibg
@@Alex-zy7ot you rock. That was a fast answer. Love your description. Man, I enjoyed that 86 I rented so much. I've owned crazy powerful sports coupes my whole life (and modded a ton), driving so many things. 86 stuck in my mind. I just don't trust Subaru engines at all. I need to try a Miata. The soft suspension is easily fixed with Konis if needed and there are so many mods like GWR catback. Hmmm Have you tried the GRC. It's probably a better fit for my current stage in life (dad to a young one although we have a family SUV). That should be dead reliable as well like Miata.
If you enjoy the car and are willing to modify it, better to add hydraulic steering yourself. I think mazda made this car light and pliable to be modification friendly. But don't let your passion(heart) drain your wallet.
Had a 2020 MX-5 and loved it. Sold it in 2022 to move to a Camaro 2SS 1LE to try something new (never had a V8 before). The car is fantastic, but way more than what I need. I feel like I really have to push the car to get it to feel alive. It's definitely more capable than the Miata was, but I think I had more fun, more of the time, in the Miata. Seriously thinking about going back to the MX-5 next year as it was just overall more enjoyable.
@@UnitDoriftar That's pretty cool, and definitely the way to go if you're able to. Between my wife and I we have 4 cars, and only a two car garage. Don't really have room to store another car outside, and can't really justify another weekend car either (the Camaro isn't a daily).
@@sunnyvalentinoI had a 89 5.0 with around 340hp not super fast but fun, sold it when I graduated from highschool, now I’m looking at buying a 22-24 rf though my only issue is the modding capability
Kind of in the same situation. Had Miata before. A 90, 92 autocross car, and a 93le. Sold the LE in 2015 and bought a mustang gt. Modded is slightly and drove it until 2020. Traded it in on a 19 Bullitt. Other than being heavy, it is a great handling car. It has magnaride suspension with a ford racing upgrade of springs, sway bars, and a computer flash to recalibrate to new parts. Amazing suspension. In sport or track it is flat in the corners, but still compliant. On twisty roads it is very fast. The only problem is the size, width of the car on narrow roads😂 Been thinking of going back to a ND Miata. Great cars. My problem is if I buy a newer one I would dump about $3000 in suspension and exhaust to make the car how I like it. The stock ND cars are way too soft, roll around like a drunk in the corners. Nice for cruising, not for corners.
Nice video. And I like your insight: like yourself, I am not a particularly sad or dark person, but nevertheless, whenever I get behind the wheel of mine, I’m immediately cheered up! It’s almost like a drug. And yes, it makes other people - friends, strangers, whoever - it makes them happy, too. I jokingly tell passengers that, like an eager puppy, this is “the happiest car in the world”. They always smile, nod and agree.
Thanks for the enjoyable drive--that is what it's all about. I'm just down the westward road in Fennville, and your vid is like looking out the window. I ordered my Miata a year before they were introduced, and have loved it ever since. Yes, they are surprisingly great--IMO the best bargain in automotive pleasure.
Thanks to POV videos from The Topher and Tedward, I purchased a 2022 Club and I ABSOLUTELY love this thing. I also started doing POV videos, but need to get those ear muffs. Great video, 'Substitute Topher'!
i almost went w/ this exact same one. but decided to spend the extra money on the terracota seats. I bought it in Alabama and drove it 480 miles to SC and felt no fatigue what so ever. I was expecting a grueling ride. surprisingly comfortable for long hauls.
Nice video. Here you've demonstrated why I've long loved roadsters since before the Miata came to be. This looked like the perfect evening to enjoy such a drive. Whenever I see a ND Miata I'm reminded that the infotainment screen looks like it was jammed into the dash at the last minute without any consideration regarding aesthetics. It is a shame that such screens aren't optional in all cars. Drive therapy (or ride therapy if you're into bikes or motorcycles) has long been one of the best forms of therapy for many of us. After watching this it is hard to imagine that a number of people actually look forward to a day when we won't be able to drive ourselves.
I have a2019 nd. Love the car. Only improvements added were Koni shocks, lowering springs, larger front and rear stabilizer bars and a set of 17x8 wheels with 235 tires. Took off the stock 40lb muffler and replaced it with a 10lb race. Extracted the engine sound tube, what a stupid thing to put on a car. Real stable and fun fun fun
I like your build. The stock platform is great, but just too soft to drive hard. If I buy another Miata I will end up spending money to make it right for me.

Hi. Excellent video. Honestly. I felt like I was behind the wheel. Lol. Mine is still on order. It's a 2023 Club RF. Should be in next month . Good luck with your car.
Choked me up for a second when you mention the limited slip differential and went on to say these things aren't what you buy a miata for and 'drop the top' blah blah... well, there's two kinda people folks! Those who enjoy LSDs, and those who don't! 😁
Anyone else torn between this beauty and something like the M240i? Sure the differences are huge with price, technology, power etc. but they are at its core fantastic 2 door sports cars. Maybe I don’t need 300+ hp. If it were my only car maybe I’d pick up the BMW but as a second car, the Miata seems so much more appealing
I actually cross shopped both of these cars lol. In mid 2022 when I picked up the ND the M240is didn’t have adaptive cruise control so I used the reasoning if I was going to give up a manual I’d need to have adaptive cruise on the automatic. Ultimately went with the manual Miata. No regrets. But now the M240is have adaptive lane keep lol. The Miata is special and I assume I’ll have it for the next 30 years until gas stations go away.
Had to watch to see what the Miata hype is about. I think I get it now. Much more enjoyable driving experience compared to my Corolla for very nearly the same mpg lol. I really like the detachable cup holders and that the exterior paint continues on into the inside. Having to share the roads is such a drag, isn't it? Also, big lol at editing the pass out. Is YT really strict about obvious speeding or something? I've noticed a lot of car dudes recently blocking speedometers whereas they didn't 1-2 years ago
I had a bmw with b58, obv lots of faster stuff out there, but even the b58 is too much for the street and my driving I guess. Got a ND2 and it is perfect for me.
So uh it’s really funny but I realized I don’t wanna deal with these M2 car payments. Like I can definitely afford it but damn, do I wanna save money too, and have fun. I cancelled my M2 order and am now looking for a Miata ND2.
Nice to see Zircon Sand actually being driven! I am weirdly interested in the color, it really seems to change with the light. That being said I've never met anyone who likes the color, and only seen it on one or two Mazdas (of any make) so I doubt it is doing well. A lot of comments that it a color for a truck or offroader though. Honestly not a huge fan of most of the 2023 colors, and I am not a red car guy although I agree it is the most interesting of the bunch. They really need some cool colors for a sports car like this, bring back Laser Blue or some Forest Green, or even that awesome orange they had a few years ago. I'm going to get one in 2024, but if the colors stay the same it will be that machine silver I think.
I actually really like the sand color on the Miata even though on paper it seems like a color that wouldn't work for it. I have always been a fan of earth tones though. I would love to see the ND in a regular red or yellow too. I know people go crazy for soul red, and it's definitely a nice color, but I think a classic red would suit it better.
The first time I went on the high way with the Miata, I was more scared driving 60 in that thing than doing 100 in a rainstorm with my 4,100 lbs wagon. I did put the stiffer sway bars on it, and I think it tightened it up too much and made it more race feeling than street feeling but that depends on the person's preference. I think the character of this car should have some body roll, but not as much as when it came from the factory. And it needs a louder exhaust for sure.

The screen is a touch screen. I have the same car.
I just got one two weeks ago and honestly ask myself why I didn’t get one years ago Of the cars I’ve been privileged to own I think this is my favorite I can drive it and enjoy it w/o worrying about it too much.
The passenger seat sensor detects electronics for some reason. I've been fine with my dog in the passenger seat, but a plugged in phone will set the sensor off.
Nice vid; good job. First responder tip of the day…dont drive with your thumbs looped into the inside of the steering wheel. If you crash, and the airbag goes off, it traps your thumbs rapidly and does bad things to them. Cup the wheel on the outside instead. You’re welcome.
I think zircon sand on ND may look better on Club's with more black accent. The formula seems to work well on other Mazda models' Turbo carbon editions this year in the sand color.
Love how people say its too slow to break the law! Lmao are you fing serious?!? It's plenty quick enough to get a ticket with. A lot of people are obviously disillusioned bc of so many high hp cars these days.
I think that passenger seat thing with the phone may be caused by the magnet in the phone. I notice that too. But I can put my backpack there and no warning sound
Nice! I had an ND1 RF and it was a blast :) Just out of curiosity, how tall are you? I'm 5'11" and around 175lbs, and the Miata felt just a *little* too small for me. Had it for a few years and it was so fun, and it was my daily driver.
Really on point review! Would appreciate a video or your thoughts comparing all the funnest manual offerings. I have a 10 month baby so I would love to get one no dealer markup car that can do it all or get any boring 4 door EV/ICE as a second car.
Great video! Just bought a 2023 miata a few weeks ago as my first manual. Still getting used to it, but I feel like I don’t have the clutch control down that well (still feels pretty jerky) especially between 1st and 2nd. Any tips?
EVERYONE should know how to drive a stick. My first car was a ‘64 Ford Falcon with a floor mounted 4 speed. Sometimes my girlfriend then (now my wife of 51 years now) needed to get to work and wanted to borrow my car. Well, she learned to drive a very sloppy Ford factory 4 speed in order to use my car. The car had a bench front seat and I sometimes missed reverse! It was down and to the right. In those days, girls wore skirts and pantyhose, if you know what I mean!
Question: there is a US$12k difference between the base MX-5 and the Club in my country. Is it worth it at that point or do I just go with the base model soft top, then add mods to it to make it match or even surpass the Club in performance? Thanks!
Maybe the base model uses the 1.5L engine in your country? I heard the 1.5 is very fun so as long as you're okay with low power I say go with the base.
For best economy, one number means the gear you are in is the best while 2 numbers means shift from the one on the left to the gear number on the right. It's quite conservative.
I am not a fan of Zircon Sand, it’s too earthy. Great for the rugged CX-50. A sports car needs brighter colors. I have a ‘21 RF Club BBR in Polymetal grey. I love that color, the SRC and magnetic grey.
It's the code that Mazda uses to identify the generation of their Miata line (NA, NB, NC, ND and so on in the future) which also ends with "2" as 2nd version of the variant.
@@JBReyes777 Their VIN(Vehicular Identification Number) or chassis/ frame number for every Miata starts with "JM1N" so the fourth and fifth digits are the NA, NB, NC, ND... They basically based from alphabetical order the generation to see how far they've come.
@@YoungBloodedWaRRioR7 Ok thank you. So when I bought my Miata in 1989 that is considered "NA?" If so, what does the acronym "NA" stand for? That's my question.
@@JBReyes777 It doesn't mean anything. It's just a unique code. The letter 'N' being the fourth digit of every Miata chassis number and 'A' meaning 1st generation, as it's the first letter in the alphabet and so forth.
I am getting one in 2024. I could see a hybrid being interesting, but there will be something special about the ND if it is the last true ICE only MX5.
Better get it wrapped or give it to a professional detailer every 6 months or so. Great cars (I've had 4 Mazda's since 2008), because that paint is going to start fading in year 4 or 5 something awful. Milky white whatever color you bought that quick. I'm not exagerating. Their paints look great, but are paper thin garbage. Granted, my cars are kept outside in Florida, but c'mon man - 4 years old and faded.
I’ve had three, and currently own a manual ND2. All previous ones were automatics and all of them had strange transmission issues with the six speed. My ND2 has been dead reliable until recently, it’s been in the shop for four weeks over some electrical issue in the PCM 😢. These cars are wonderful, and my family has owned them for years, maybe it’s my luck, but I’m not sure if they’re the most reliable cars anymore ☹️
I had an NB Shinsen for about 5 years with 2 issues 1 fan going bad and clutch line leaking spent only about 100 bucks in total (did the repairs myself switched over to a steel braided line). Also have an RX7 FC 8 years which barely gave me any issues until one day the compression of the engine started giving out from being old 200k miles (Rotary engines just aren't meant to last) Currently switched over to a 95 NA Miata for 2 years and have had 0 issues so far. I had more issues when I had Honda's in my early life with electrical sensors and tons of other issues and helping my dad with his 2013 Nissan Sentra. Not sure about NDs but my cousin has one since 2017 or so and has been using it as a daily and even drove it out of state with no issues so far. They are bulletproof as long as you do their maintenance and don't abuse them. All were manual cars just in case autos have issues who knows.
We have two 2017 Mazdas-an MX-5 Miata GT soft top and a Mazda6 sedan. The two have a combined 84,000 miles and we have had exactly ONE repair, i.e. brake pad and disc replacement on the rear brakes only on the Mazda6. They are simply the most reliable cars we have ever owned.
Despite this thing came out in 2016, I can never get tire of Miata videos.

That color is straight dookie butter
The first time I went on the high way with the Miata, I was more scared driving 60 in that thing than doing 100 in a rainstorm with my 4,100 lbs wagon.
I did put the stiffer sway bars on it, and I think it tightened it up too much and made it more race feeling than street feeling but that depends on the person's preference.
I think the character of this car should have some body roll, but not as much as when it came from the factory.
And it needs a louder exhaust for sure.
The screen is a touch screen. I have the same car.
More backroad drives!
You need to get yourself an EUC!
I had an NC. It looks better than the ND IMO but I still want one of these.
Great car ❤
I just got one two weeks ago and honestly ask myself why I didn’t get one years ago
Of the cars I’ve been privileged to own I think this is my favorite I can drive it and enjoy it w/o worrying about it too much.
Wild how the prices have gone up so much. I got my brand new 2019 w/ GT-S package (club+GT options) for $29k
Yea prices suck rn, I’m looking at buy a used 22-24 with around 20-35k miles and hopefully around23-27k
The all new Marzda Meeyarda.
Love how people say its too slow to break the law!
Lmao are you fing serious?!?
It's plenty quick enough to get a ticket with.
A lot of people are obviously disillusioned bc of so many high hp cars these days.
Great one!
“One of the best little performance cars”
Dude this thing is the only little performance car😭
I just love it. Unfortunately they are very pricey in the used market in Germany and also very rare with min 160hp.
Would you say the driving experience is better than the brz/gr86? Hard choice between the two..
Love that color! Miata’s rule
Nice video.
I think that passenger seat thing with the phone may be caused by the magnet in the phone. I notice that too. But I can put my backpack there and no warning sound
Ah! Interesting point. I bet that's it.
It’s 16:14 here in Vancouver as I type this. Gonna take my Polymetal GS-P BBR for another drive later.
Thanks for the reminder.
Nice! I had an ND1 RF and it was a blast :) Just out of curiosity, how tall are you? I'm 5'11" and around 175lbs, and the Miata felt just a *little* too small for me. Had it for a few years and it was so fun, and it was my daily driver.
i'm 5'11" too and it is a bit small indeed (ND2), just a few inches for the knees would have been perfect. On the passenger seat it is worse
i'm 6'2" with an nd2, if i was one inch taller i wouldn't be able to stand it
Platinum quartz is the best color for me. But it is limited edition only :(
Thats a great video! Is this in california?
Really on point review! Would appreciate a video or your thoughts comparing all the funnest manual offerings.
I have a 10 month baby so I would love to get one no dealer markup car that can do it all or get any boring 4 door EV/ICE as a second car.
What frame rate did you film this? I could never record matching the touch screen's refresh rate...
Thinking real hard of swapping my very good condition 05 RSX Type S for one of these...
Great video! Just bought a 2023 miata a few weeks ago as my first manual. Still getting used to it, but I feel like I don’t have the clutch control down that well (still feels pretty jerky) especially between 1st and 2nd. Any tips?
@@yuchenwang9731 thanks Ill try that.
Just be patient and keep practicing. It'll be second nature in a month or two.
When going 1st > 2nd, release clutch at about the rpm that 2nd would be at. That's the trick for a smooth shift into 2nd
A Miata as your first manual. Now you’re spoiled for life.
That color looks great
The handbrake bro
I’m from Rochester !
That’s the best color in my opinion
Got rid of mine for a 911-996 and I still miss it.
Your roads were too straight to REALLY enjoy this car. Still fun but try it on some mountain passes sometime.
Enjoyed your video. Nice job.
I am wondering if 1.5 nd2 is fun as well as 2.0?
Does it have rev matching, or you’re blipping the throttle?
Man there’s no good roads in your area for the Miata
HOW TALL ARE YOU?! Thanks!
Would you get soft top or hard top?
Why does the gear indicator on the dash sometimes have two numbers?
For best economy, one number means the gear you are in is the best while 2 numbers means shift from the one on the left to the gear number on the right. It's quite conservative.
@@RPO767 thank you! Weird feature for a roadster.
I am not a fan of Zircon Sand, it’s too earthy. Great for the rugged CX-50. A sports car needs brighter colors. I have a ‘21 RF Club BBR in Polymetal grey. I love that color, the SRC and magnetic grey.
Can someone please tell me the meaning of ND's? Thank you.
It's the code that Mazda uses to identify the generation of their Miata line (NA, NB, NC, ND and so on in the future) which also ends with "2" as 2nd version of the variant.
@@YoungBloodedWaRRioR7 Thank you for the reply. But what does the acronym ND, NA stand for?
Glad to see the color in the wild. It’s awful.
"You're Not married so you don't have to worry about that" got me.
Cool car though
The question is, Do you buy one in 2024 or wait and maybe hope the 2025 is a hybrid?
I am getting one in 2024. I could see a hybrid being interesting, but there will be something special about the ND if it is the last true ICE only MX5.
now that ND3 is confirmed, the electric is going to prob be 2027 or so
@@Swarm509 Mazda has the opportunity to really screw this up.
@@MGR1900 Yeah, and seeing the latest concept car I really don't like the direction they may be going with shape/headlights.
@@Swarm509 Well, it’s still a concept car. I don’t see how if that’s the future of the MX-5, how are you suppose to get a convertible out of that?
Perfectly fine color for an SUV. Absolutely awful on a sports car.
WHY DOES THIS SAY 30 SECONDS AGO
Give us some twisty roads & canyon content please. Hate the straight line videos.
Yet apparently you keep watching. What is it that you keep coming back for?
@@VirtualGuth why u so hirt karen? I only watch the twisty roads videos, straight line sam
That's a very weird color choice for a sporty roadster.
Nah
That color is hideous
gr86? s2000? bah, get mx5 nd 184 and enjoy
Nothing seems lost when it's not 60fps. Which makes me question why most of the POVtubers I watch prefer 60fps
do not change your way of recording please
Better get it wrapped or give it to a professional detailer every 6 months or so. Great cars (I've had 4 Mazda's since 2008), because that paint is going to start fading in year 4 or 5 something awful. Milky white whatever color you bought that quick. I'm not exagerating. Their paints look great, but are paper thin garbage. Granted, my cars are kept outside in Florida, but c'mon man - 4 years old and faded.
Zircon Sand is about as disgusting of a color as there could possibly be 🤮
Mazda trolling y'all with their new paint colour name. Zircon what? Zircon deez nutz.
What an awful color
I keep hearing Mazda's are not very reliable. Is that true?
I’ve had three, and currently own a manual ND2. All previous ones were automatics and all of them had strange transmission issues with the six speed. My ND2 has been dead reliable until recently, it’s been in the shop for four weeks over some electrical issue in the PCM 😢. These cars are wonderful, and my family has owned them for years, maybe it’s my luck, but I’m not sure if they’re the most reliable cars anymore ☹️
They are bullet proof! Love them!
Not true. One of the most reliable cars you can buy from any manufacturer. Period.
I had an NB Shinsen for about 5 years with 2 issues 1 fan going bad and clutch line leaking spent only about 100 bucks in total (did the repairs myself switched over to a steel braided line).
Also have an RX7 FC 8 years which barely gave me any issues until one day the compression of the engine started giving out from being old 200k miles (Rotary engines just aren't meant to last)
Currently switched over to a 95 NA Miata for 2 years and have had 0 issues so far.
