Great video! I have a 4 month old tegu and we've started target training her. She's responding really well to it so far - though she loves to latch onto the target and not let go, hopefully this will improve as she gets older and with more training. I do like the idea of giving her a different type of food for when we are target training her outside of her regular eating times. That is a great idea!

You can try not giving her a reward if she grabs onto the target. Only giving her food if she bumps it with her nose. They're pretty quick Learners! It's really fun to train them! Good luck!

@@theregalreptile3953 This sounds like a clever way to fix the biting. I will work on it with her. Thanks for the idea!

I'm getting ready to score a B+W tegu myself so this was useful - what age/size can you start target training them at?

Honestly I'd give them a week or so to settle into their new place, and then you can easily start visual cues. Like showing them something specific, some color, every time you feed them that way they know if they see that color or object they know they're getting fed. If you use a Target Pole to Target them to a location and then feed them there you might save your fingers especially if it's a baby LOL good luck with your new buddy!

@@theregalreptile3953 Yeah - do a search online and all of the reputable places are sold out. I normally use Backwater Reptiles but when I try to place my order their website is bugging so not sure if this is due to them also being sold out or just their website - I sent them an email but no response yet.
