Love this approach, I have a 4 month old lace monitor, I've had her about 5 weeks and she or he hides when I walk in the room so I believe time and patience will be key for me, I do worry about getting bit when training her at a larger size
Best not to pick up at first just feed them a lil bit each day worms or lean Meats before u realize a mouth a two go by and there coming up to you and then u start to pick them up take them out put them in the bath
Love how she tripods. Hope you got a big enough place for them when they grow up. Minkman has a baby argus he's training right now too. You should check his channel out if you haven't already.
This is exactly the kind of work I do with my Savannah monitors :) I think if I wasn't already so deeply invested with them I'd probably have leaned over to Argus monitors
My husband got me a baby Mangrove monitor last week. He’s so cute. I have had Tegus and one monitor in the past. My little dude is pretty smart and sweet.
You are absolutely right ! My Atara ( asian water monitor) I've had to base our relationship around TRUST and spending hours each day in my office with her just so she watches me everyday. It's been slow and NEVER push a relationship ON MY MONITORS! PATIENCE PATIENCE and More patience, as much as I would LOVE THAT PUPPY DOG reptile lol, she is a MONITOR but REWARDING with years of a trusted relationship!
What’s up I had argus monitor it was a male he was about 4 feet long and very tame it took a few months to get him to relax but keep up the work it pay off soon enough
This is awesome man. Please always go back and watch my old videos of thunder from the beginning defently a good series to start. Btw on thing i learned is try to make sure you don't eat before taming your monitor. Although they dont eat a cooked steak or fried chicken if your hands smell like it. They'll go for you haha
THANK YOU! I've been so irritated with these pre-tamed taming vids. I have a baby savannah that just rips the Hell out of me, trashes, tail lashes, death rolls, even charges at me, and I've made no success because every video is like "oh just pick them up gently". How TF can I get near her first???
I got an 8x5x6 outdoor enclosure, with 10 inch deep substrate(organic top soil, compost, and cypress mulch), also has uvb and live plants. How much long and deep of a tub/pond does an adult mangrove monitor need in this enclosure?
My monitor was a jerk when he was a baby. Very territorial, hissing and tail whipping when I would feed him or change his water. I wanted to install more light fixtures one day so I had to climb right in his cage to work. He hissed for a few minutes till his curiosity kicked in. By the time I finished, he was climbing all over me trying to see what I was doing. That was 4 years ago and he hasn't showed an ounce of attitude since. With your female, feed her, wait a half hour, then socialize when she's not in food mode any more. She'll be basking and relaxed. Also when they are shedding and itchy, they learn to appreciate a nice back scratch. I have an almost 5 year old Savanah monitor that thinks he's a human or a dog or a cat but not a savage lizard unless it's dinner time.
I've got a new ackie, runs around all day when I'm gone. WILL NOT come out of his hides while I'm present. The breeder handled him A LOT... IF, on a very rare occasion, I spot him out, I can reach in and pick him right up. doesn't try to run or jump. About 8 weeks old now. I'm at a loss, no point in sitting in front of the tank for an hour if he isn't curious, right?
@@thesebmxsonly1118 i have a nile too and just yesterday night I filled the tub up and let him swim inside and I found out that obv if you tire them out they become more relaxed. I tried this way and I sat next to the tub and left my hand inside and he would swim to it and smell it and swim away and eventually I’d sneak in pats on the back or touch his back and towards the end of the bath he was tired and he would come to my arm to rest and I actually ended up picking him up and pet his back for a while, I even was able to clip his nails slowly. It was a huge progress in such little time. This is what I found out and I hope it helps you out too. My Nile’s highly aggressive and would bite his previous owner so I’m trying to tame him too lol
Okay so I have a nile monitor, when I try to interact with him he turns away from me. Tries to either whip me with his tail or he retreats. How do I go about getting him to start trusting me
Its a nile monitor those guys will almost never trust you Not saying its impossible but the Niles are the hardest to tame out of the monitors its ganna take a lot of work
You ever try any kind of target training or clicker training to get your female Argus to know when feeding time is and when it's not? Using the clicker can let her know "hey I have food for you" so maybe she can learn to not directly associate your presence as feeding time every time. I know Argus monitors are absolutely hyper food driven so it might take some persistence to get her to associate the clicks with food but since they're so smart she might catch on quickly.
Are you going to continue making these videos I have a savannah monitor that is about months old or so and have been trying to tame her down really would like some help
How many hours a day do you have to be available to interact with them? I know these sessions should be short but somewhat frequent. Can you do enough short sessions within 5 hours? Looking into a monitor and time available to habituate it is my only concern.
What about one that hisses at you like crazy if you get near him he is very scared of me I've had him for almost 2 months and just seems to be getting worse.
doesn't she see the rest of your body? i don't get it, why does she think your hand is food? Your hand is attached to a much larger animal than her. Can you explain what you think about this?
Someone dumped a Savannah Monitor on my doorstep. Yes I'm the crazy reptile lady. Yes I give my basilisk walks. That doesn't mean I want someone discarding their pet because they couldn't do their research, on my doorstep. He/she is already over a foot long and really doesn't like people. Very loud fuck off hissing and tail whipping.
Part 2 is out now!

Going for the part 2 now but the issue I have is they my lizard is not eating please what can I do 😢

How’s it going ?
the thing about reptiles is dont push it too far , if they get frequent stress , they can die from it
u want to work with it far before it gets big and a problem
This is my exact worry for my baby savannah. He won't let me handle him at all.
I never paid attention about how the lizards are already tame in all these videos. 😂
Best not to pick up at first just feed them a lil bit each day worms or lean Meats before u realize a mouth a two go by and there coming up to you and then u start to pick them up take them out put them in the bath

We have some big enclosures planned for them.
This is exactly the kind of work I do with my Savannah monitors :) I think if I wasn't already so deeply invested with them I'd probably have leaned over to Argus monitors
Tbh I have a baby savannah that I am getting frustrated with the entire taming process. Maybe I should of looked into an argus😩
Just got my first monitor lizard today and i dont know what to do. Great video man👍
How's it going?
My husband got me a baby Mangrove monitor last week. He’s so cute. I have had Tegus and one monitor in the past. My little dude is pretty smart and sweet.
*checks notes*
1) Feed her
2) Do not get bit.
Already earned a like in the intro
Sweet 😎

Great video man! Keep up the great content👍! I’m sure it’s a lot of work posting 5 times a week.
Basically working 50 hour weeks with how long the editing takes.

Gotta wash up before messing with monitors 😎
man thanks again for this, and your videos in general. I just got my baby Salvator!!! Holy crap this little guy is terrified!
Congrats man!
The thumbnail is so cute and funny 😅
Question, how often do you do those 5-10 min observation sessions? once a day? week?
Laughing at this makes me happy I got my Nile when he was small. Fun times.

Does this pretty much work with all lizards? Is it better to handle them when the lights are off and they are a little cold?
I love Argus monitors and they are in the same subgenus as the Komodo dragon that just make them better
I have a question do your monitors ever dance at the front of the tank like the bearded dragons do?

Instead of How to tame your monitor, This vid should be how to socialize your favorite TH-camr :joy:
Good content ! Same issue with green iguana.
Are you going to continue making these videos I have a savannah monitor that is about months old or so and have been trying to tame her down really would like some help
Definitely will continue with the series.
What kinda cage set up are you using ? I wanna get a set up for my lil baby
Are you using grow tents for enclosures ??? How do they hold up to claws ?
Is That a grow tent he’s in ??if so what size and it works well ?
How can it learn or figure you out with Hands off You need them to be use to your hands
The squeaky chair🤣
At what age Can I start my training? I just picked up about a 3 month old white throat monitor.
Awesome video! What are you using as enclosures?
I just got a caiman will this work with a caiman lizard
What kind of enclosure are you using ?
So the no hide approach is ok to go with ? (Ackie)
I have one a argus monitor that just hisses at me no matter what I do or try
my Argus monitor just runs away from me every time i try and interact with her
LOVE!
how offten you feeding 4 or 5 pinkys

If you're still interested in a camera man, I'd be interested. I have my own monitor so it'd be a great learning experience for me as well
What about one that hisses at you like crazy if you get near him he is very scared of me I've had him for almost 2 months and just seems to be getting worse.
Either wrong cage setup. Diet. Your being to scary when trying to touch him (at least to him) there's multiple reason
the reptile in the thumbnail looks like Mark Zuckerberg, makes sense since he too is a monitor lizard just a different kind
Finally a taming video not filled with shit.
The way Lillith eats reminds me of snakes.
Shes such a strange lizard
How big do they grow
do u sell socialized monitors? i would buy.
Mine hates the camera too stg 😭
doesn't she see the rest of your body? i don't get it, why does she think your hand is food? Your hand is attached to a much larger animal than her. Can you explain what you think about this?
is that argus monitor ?
Is that a tent
That it be
Touch is the only thing you have to socialize Hands off is slowing down your progress they need something
Mines a baby asian water monitor lizard and it won't eat and it's skinny and it dont want to bask
Is it wild caught or cb?
monitors are cute.
👍👍👍👍👍
Is there a best monitor lizard?

A year later and I'd bet the farm neither of these animals are anywhere closer to "tame".
Ill take one farm please
Isn't it counterproductive to make her chase both, her food AND your empty hand?
