Although john didn't say, I believe the key factors to removing these pins where the use of his pneumatic impact the lubricant that he used for 2 days previously. John would you mind commenting on these two points? Thanks and I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work! 👍
Using penetration oil and allowing it time to do it's work, helps a lot. If I am doing work on an older vehicle, I sometimes bring it in a day ahead of time and spray the bolts I will be removing with penetrating oil. The other key thing was the air hammer, you need to hit both sides of the broken shear pin, short hits and use oil when doing this. The tip of the air hammers punch needs to be flat, do not use the pointed end or you will mushroom the end and make it harder to come out. The biggest thing to help remove stuck/seized anything is to have patience and a good attitude, it is a game and I like to win, (I will say, I win in my head when it comes out)
Awesome repair John! I have the 3X blower 30HD..... Thank goodness I haven't had that problem. If I do, I'm going straight to my burp gun and WD thanks to your video. I just ordered a 2 way Chute Control control assembly for mine. It was jammed for some reason, couldn't find anything obvious. Now I'm looking for a service manual in regards to proper steps for the assembly removal/installation along with the cable plate adapter at the chute. So far, no luck finding one...... Thanks again for your video, I learned something today!! 😊👍
Thanks for watching, If I every get one with a chute control problem, I will post the repair. Check out the manufacturer's website for a manual or look at the the parts breakdown on the website, the breakdown can give a lot of info on how it is put together.
@@FRUGALWITHJOHN Thank for the help. I do have the breakdown. I've been looking for a service manual without any luck in regards to proper procedure of removing/installation. Thanks again. 😊
A lot of times, I use the parts breakdown to do repairs. I have been doing mechanical work for a numbers of years-if I see how it is put together with the breakdown, I understand what needs to be done to repair it.
Great video. Exactly the issue I had except only 1 of 3 on the left side is seized. But without an air hammer, it's looking like I'll have to take it into the shop.
Thanks .I drilled them all out using 3 size bits up 1/4. Used WD 40 to clean out & lube Took about 2 hrs I did not think a pistol drill would work in those tight spaces of the blades but to my surprise it worked out fine . My neighbor owes me one top notch dinner 😂
I have a Stanley 45" snow blower model 45SS. I need the worm gear inside the gear box, I cannot seem to find the part number. Does anyone know who makes the parts for Stanley? or the part number?
contact GXi Parts & Service 1-800-393-0668 ask about (B01410: Auger/Impeller Gearbox) I don't know if they sell just the worm gear, but they should have the part number. If that does not work google the part number I gave you.
I Did the penetrating oil soak and hammer with hole punch 7 times over the last 5 days with no result. How do I remove a shear pin that is really stuck?
Shear pins are my recurring nightmare. They break constantly on my Ariens and I don't know why. Everything is well greased, I cleared my driveway of sticks and stones, and 30 seconds in I broke two pins! Why? I have a hard time replacing them because I can't see well enough to line up the pin with the hole. Is there any easier way to line it up, like some marking somewhere that I don't know about? Thanks.
I would say choose a lower gear, I know somebody who breaks the pins all the time also, because he tries going too fast through the snow. There is no easier way to line up the pin, a cheap pair of reading glasses may help, I need to use them all the time.
@@FRUGALWITHJOHN Thanks. I was using the lowest gear lol. It took me about 45 minutes to change two pins, but after that it worked well. Of course I had to clear all the snow out of the impeller, then the grease on the axle obscured my view of where the holes lined up with the broken pins. I wish some company could come up with a better way. Thanks again for answering.
Are they giving you the correct pins? They shouldn't be breaking that easy. Every blower is different, but on Ariens you tighten them until they just touch the auger tube, and back off a touch so you can rotate them in the hole by hand. Too tight or too loose will effect how they work.
I have the same problem, 1 pin sheared and the other 3 are siezed. I am using a mixture of ATF and acetone as a penatrating solution. Day 2 and still not budging. Any recommendations for a penatrating oil?
Canada amzn.to/3GwLsmi USA amzn.to/3GA1uf7 Affiliate links. It may be cheaper buying it local. Don't forget to try to air hammer both sides of the pin like I did in the video.
I explained that in this video, th-cam.com/video/y_pzNqIKQ9w/w-d-xo.html within the first 2 minutes of video. Unfortunately it's not good news, thanks for watching.
- Don't have Fancy air gun Hammer 🔨 - I do have a good drill. So I tried and tried. Broke the bit 😡 Finally took a heavy duty Screw driver and heavy 🔨 Three four hits, son of gun was out. Btw I did clear area using carbonator cleaner and used a silicon lubricant. I think whatever works, clean with whatever for visibility and oil with whatever. Just a good pointy thing and a heavy hammer and Bob's your uncle.
Whatever works, you can see in the video, I was using a long bolt for a punch. I use the bolt because it has a flat surface and inexpensive to replace. Using something with a point makes it harder to remove because it mushrooms the head of the broken shear pin and in turn making it harder to come out. Thanks for watching. Like the saying goes, going to need a bigger hammer.
@@FRUGALWITHJOHN I agree with you John. My screw driver did get stuck momentarily in there. It was -25 bone 🦴 chilling cold, and like you said whatever works. John I just want to Thank You for your Video. Above everything, it gave me the courage to think I could do it, and I did it. So thank you.
Maybe these new pins are from China and don't shear properly in decades I've never had a problem with them hiding after breaking this comment reminds me to coat the pin in marine waterproof .. grease used when you mount a propeller on the shaft
I have this issue with my snowblower now. I wish I had that gun. What kind of tool is that exactly? Maybe it'll be something I invest in. I have a small compressor.
could not find it no matter how many times we spun the auger had to match up the left pin... angle it ,was intact to where the right pin should be used punch in the location but had to drill it out which worked.. use high quality bits!!
Yes I know, I got a new camera and a new person to operate it now. I was getting seasick just editing the video. I also got the new wireless DJI mic on order. Thanks for watching.
OK, for us nontechnical types, what kind of drill bits are you using to drill them out with breaking your bits? I have pounded the hell of of my frozen shear pin and it refuses to budge.
I had some question about what tool I was using. It's a air hammer, I added affiliate links in the description
Outstanding instructions. by turning the blower wheel I was able to turn the auger gear and pound out the other shear pin.
Glad it was helpful
This video helped me solve my frozen shear pin problem, thank you!

I am using a long bolt for a punch and air hammer, the Air Hammer is from Canada Tire but can get it at any place that sells tools

It should be good, as long as you did not drill the hole too big.
