    Take a sandwich bag and place it over the fuel tank opening and then screw yr cap vack on. I have done it with a full tank when I had to service the bottom of the snowblower. I have a EFI 30" CUB CADET.

    Good idea to remove the wheels and grease or apply Anti-seize compound to the axles because it’s common for the wheels to freeze to the axles.

    Great video, Interesting why Cub didn't use a fuel shut off, but you gave me an idea when you removed cover below tank. There's enough room there to put one. Have the same blower. With some thought it should be doable. Cheers

    Why waste money and change a spark plug after only four years of low intermittent service?
    My lawnmower is from 1963 and still running fine on its original spark plug.

      The spark plugs are changed because it is a customer's snow blower, no comebacks because of no start. Customer's want the thing to start every time after spending $$ to get it ready for winter. ($3.00 to $5'00 is better than losing a customer forever)

    Raymond. Should you use plastic bag to keep the gas from leaking from gas cover….I think I did one time? and it contaminated the gasoline thus gummed up and never worked the same after?

    • @FRUGALWITHJOHN
      @FRUGALWITHJOHN  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The amount of time the gasoline is in contact with the plastic bag, is not long. I have never seen any damage done to the plastic bag after doing this and I have been doing it for years with out any issues. Yes, gasoline can melt through some plastics . I will take some gas and a piece of plastic grocery bag, put it in a jar and see what happens, (maybe a video)? Thanks for watching.

    I had a old 25yr old craftsmans i did zero to. Maybe add oil once in a while but thats it over 25yrs.
    Only replaced because its a old slow engine that really struggled with the 3-10ft of snow dropped in single storms
    Especially after this last storm i just had that had 70mph winds and buried my two car garage with snow drifts.

    • @FRUGALWITHJOHN
      @FRUGALWITHJOHN  ปีที่แล้ว

      Snow blower engines normally outlast the snow blower itself, with very little loss of power, unless the oil is not changed. I see it all the time, thanks for watching.

    That Cub Cadet is an AYP machine. I have a Craftsman I bought 7 years ago that is the same machine with the bigger engine. There's no way this thing will last 40 years. The bucket and impeller housing will rot away long before it gets that old. They aren't like they used to be built - plastic and thin sheetmetal!

    • @FRUGALWITHJOHN
      @FRUGALWITHJOHN  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A lot of snow blowers are made by the same manufacture, different names and colors but same basic frame. The different price points are because of, bearings and bushings used, the cheaper ones use plastic bushings. If you wash and do a paint touch up at the end of every season, and also store them inside (garage), they will last for years. (but not built like they used to be)

    • @FRUGALWITHJOHN
      @FRUGALWITHJOHN  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I added links in the description of the lubes I used, Chain Lube and in some places I used PL 100 lubricant. I just started using PL 100 and so far I am happy with it.

  • @PainterD54
    @PainterD54 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'd stay away from spray grease on the gears and slide shift shaft. Tacky grease does a better job and doesn't fly off onto the drive wheel. That would only make it slip and you don't want that.
    I might lube the chain if there is one down there, but I'd make sure the drive system was covered and you wipe off the excess so it can't fly off and get on the drive system. I've had customers who over lubed things and made more of a mess and damage than if they'd left it alone.

    • @FRUGALWITHJOHN
      @FRUGALWITHJOHN  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      PL100 is like chain lube but better, it will not fly off. I have been using PL-100 for years and never had a problem. I can see if people used other types of lube and got some on the friction disc it can cause a problem. If you're interested here is an affiliate link to PL 100 lubricant: amzn.to/4526lkK

  • @Rafcat555
    @Rafcat555 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why did you smear the candle with copper grease? It's too much. And pour 30ml of oil into the cylinder, it was necessary to do so, as it is written in the instructions (in some models). Metal is rusting from the bottom of the ladle, but you have not cleaned and processed it, so the metal will soon become unusable.

    • @FRUGALWITHJOHN
      @FRUGALWITHJOHN  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was a service done just before winter, the snow blower will be used, so on oil in the cylinder. (The copper stuff)-It is anti-seize compound, not used to lubricate moving parts. End of season service is different than getting it ready to use. If you use touch up paint every year, you will not have that much rust, I did a video on how to do it and showed the difference of one that was done every year and one that was not. Thanks for watching.

  • @mikepatten1373
    @mikepatten1373 ปีที่แล้ว

    You may want to remove the tires and add never seize on the shaft and inside the wheel hub. If the shaft bearings on the sides of the wheel shaft seize you will never get the tires off to replace those bearings. Food for thought.

    Help!!! On my snowblower friction wheel shaft, if the smallest gear is in place, the wheels won't turn. If I move it aside, then the wheels turn. Put back in place, it won't move again. All gears are complete with no teeth broken. I have wracked my brain and it doesn't make sense to me. What am I doing wrong? Every gear moves until that smallest gear is put back in place. Please advise..

      Without a video or picture, I'm having a hard time understanding your problem. If the engine in not running, and the friction wheel is engaged the wheels will not turn. If the linkage is not adjusted correctly and the engine is running, the wheels will not turn if the friction wheel is in the center of the disc. Thanks for watching

    Can i use full synthetic 0w20 for oil change? Cub cadet 2 stage 208cc 24 inch.. (pros and cons)
    Also, how often should we change oil?
    When to change oil?
    After season completion (before shelving it)
    OR
    Before using it after storage?

    • @FRUGALWITHJOHN
      @FRUGALWITHJOHN  ปีที่แล้ว

      I always use 5W30 full synthetic-(manufacturer's recommendation). 0W20 was made for cars, to help achieve emission standards (thinner oil = less turning and flow resistance). You would need to ask the people who engineered the engine, what the (long-term) result would be if you used 0W20 in your snow blower.
      Changing oil will vary from person to person, I have a 4 car driveway, as a rule we normally don't get much snow. I change my oil every two years, (unless we get a lot of snow in one year, I will change it at the end of the season). Other people may need to change the oil more, some more than once a year. That question was on one of my mechanics test years ago, the correct answer is (when the oil has finished its useful life).
      It is always best to change your oil at the end of the season, wash the snow blower, start to get the oil warm/hot, then change oil, ready for the next season. Thanks for watching.

    • @l.b.7543
      @l.b.7543 ปีที่แล้ว

      I change it at the end of the season. Let it run till you are out of gas- cause u will have hell to pay if you don’t. Wash it off and spray it down with wd40. Cause you will come back and it will be rusted if you don’t do it
