  • It's almost time to welcome Baby Dayalan to our family! That means it's time to prepare for our stay in the hospital. I started prepping my hospital bag, but I'm not sure if I need more or less stuff, so feel free to let me know what you think in the comments.

    It might be too late but I would love to hear what part of the stuff you took to the hospital you actually used and which things you should have left at home. ❤️

    Don't forget deodorant and remember that anything that is in your bed is going to get messy, so I would say avoid putting any of your own stuff in the bed, like the pillow and save the pjs until after the afterbirth is delivered and you have gotten up for the first time. Former L&D nurse here. Best wishes on your new addition!

    I would love to see an update on this video. I know its been a long time since you've had the baby, but it would be great to hear what you used, what you did not, and what you felt was worth bringing or what you wish you would have brought!

    Honestly don't be nervous at all. Billions of women have delivered babies and you are just as strong as them. Doctors know what they are doing, trust them. If something goes wrong and you have to have a c-section, it will all be fine. You will be able to push out the baby. And really, you just need to push out the head and shoulders of the baby and practically the rest comes out!! And once the baby comes out you will know exactly what to do. I mean, in the moment you'll want to snuggle him and cry and hold him forever. But when you get to take him home that's where your motherly instinct comes in. You will be so great! Your husband too!!

    I had my baby 7 hours ago (currently catching up on TH-cam to keep myself awake while he sleeps on me), and I'm already missing some things that I wish I'd packed. 1) Towels (I brought schampo and stuff but nothing to dry off with...), 2) boppy/nursing pillow (it was too big and bulky but now I really want it).
    Good luck with everything Susan!

      I agree with the towel. My hospital provided towels...and they were scratchy and awful. The last thing you wanted to rub on sore bodies (especially nipples) is a scratchy towel..

    Definitely pack a smaller size outfit for baby! I know so many people who thought they would have big babies and ended up needing newborn size clothes (or even preemie!). Also bring more than one blanket for baby (poop, vomit, etc... it'll happen). If you plan to circ baby bring bacitracin (hospital should provide though). Also, bring your own wash clothes and towels (if you plan to shower) as someone who works in a hospital I can tell you you'll definitely want your own wash clothes (and probably towels too!) bring your own pillow! And the disposable boy shorts is a GREAT idea :) Good luck!!

    • @SusanYara
      @SusanYara  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      One extra blanket is a good point (and I have plenty!). Towels too!

    Personally I think more is more when going to the hospital. If you don't use most things then that's fine, but you'll be happy to have them if needed. the tucks were a good send. The hospital provided those for me and also a numbing spray. I didn't have any hemorrhoids but the nurses had me use them for cooling comfort. definitely a must have for sure!!!

    • @SusanYara

    coconut oil to put on baby's bum before they poop meconium. That stuff is super sticky and with a layer of oil, it wipes right off! Has worked like magic with all my kidos! Mild laxatives might be good too, they helped me big time for those first few days after birth.

    At least at the hospital I work at, we are not allowed to cut or trim the babies nails. Just a policy to protect us I guess. So I would bring a trimmer or file if you think you would need it. I love the long sleeve onesies that cover their hands to protect them from scratching themselves!
    Congratulations and best wishes!

    I recommend not to fold the baby socks the way you are because it will stretch out the elastic around the ankle and it will constantly be falling off the baby. Try putting one sock inside the other.

    You didn't say what size the gray onesie was but you should definitely pack a newborn size onesie just in case you do have a smaller baby. I loved the kimono style onesie for the first few months because it's so much easier to change the baby. I hope labor and delivery goes well for you!

    the hospital should provide everything you need for baby and for your aftercare while at the hospital. dont be afraid to ask for more when you get low while staying or before you leave. my advice would be to bring a laptop with movies and an hdmi cord to relax and watch movies just in case it takes a while. also, it will give you both entertainment after the baby is born. my saving grace was my maternity nightgown that i changed into after i showered. even if you dont feel up to showering, do it anyway. it will make you feel incredible. unless your baby cries a lot, there's no need for a pacifier. i didnt introduce one to my baby girl until 4 weeks old. since you plan on breastfeeding, you want the baby to get used to your nipple. it will be your first time learning to feed and the babies so you shouldnt confuse your baby by giving them a pacifier unless necessary so i would say dont pack one so you both can focus on getting breastfeeding down. its very frustrating at first for both of you. utilize the lactation consultant they should have there. they are amazing and wise. if you are planning on using a breast pump later, bring it so the consultant can teach you how to use it properly and how to clean it.

    I would bring some newborn sized clothes too, in case baby is small. And, maybe an outfit for a girl, in case baby is a girl surprise! I'm due in March and I've had my bag packed since Xmas because I have babies early. I never used makeup in the hospital, honestly there isn't any time. And I cry a lot after having a baby so makeup would be a disaster. The baby will be with you in the room unless something is wrong with you or baby, so you will be overwhelmed taking car of the baby to really worry about anything else. If you need a c section you will need granny panties to wear at home for a while because you don't want anything near the incision. I think the basics you need are: toothbrush and toothpaste, face wash, body wash, body lotion, and your basic skin care. And the comfiest clothes you own, you honestly won't care what you look like. Drink lots of water, prunes and laxatives are definitely helpful. Yes for all the breast feeding stuff!

    • @SusanYara
      @SusanYara  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Imagine if he came out a girl?!?! The opposite happened to my little sister--she thought she was having a girl until the minute he came out. Getting the prunes asap! :)

    DON'T USE CLIPPERS AT FIRST! It's so hard because they are so small and fragile. I'd take a small emery board and just file them down. It's quiet too so they won't wake up from the clipping.

      Hi Ashley! I actually just had my baby and I'll tell you there's really no way to prepare. We were supposed to be induced on Thursday morning, but the baby decided he wanted to come before that. We went to the hospital in the middle of the night and everything seemed fine twenty minutes in for a vaginal birth until I ended up having an emergency c-section. We wouldn't have been able to film it because at that point I was so pumped up with an epidural and then anesthesia, I couldn't even stay awake and my poor husband was scared something bad was going to happen. All turned out perfectly fine and we have our cute baby boy, but it just goes to show, you can only prepare so much. Also, I didn't use half the stuff in my hospital bag! Go figure. Hospital had most things I needed, even slipper socks. Good luck!

    Are you gonna document your birth?

      I've been debating it. Likely not because I'm a little superstitious about things and also just want to focus on the moment since it's my first. :)

    bring a few diapers and the water wires just in case what ever they give you doesn't sit well with baby and from my experience hospitals no longer provide pacifiers so if you want to introduce one bring it... in my experience they will not let you wash your hair the first day some dont pack too much eye mask are great and bring an iPod/ipad or head phones for phone music labor can be an extremely long she boring lol

      tucks are awesome especially if you tear...most hospitals provide mesh underwear I would suggest bringing larger regular comfortable panties instead. hospital towels are ruff and white bring your own need I say more lol a few hair ties wouldn't hurt either

    Okay, WHAT did the lady do with the placenta???

    The hospital provides everything baby needs. Don't bring diapers. Bring going home outfits for you and baby. I used nursing camis/tanks under the hospital gown, and the hospital mesh undies. Honestly, destroy the hospital's "clothes" and not your own! Machine-washable isotoner mule slippers, a maternity yoga outfit, the carseat and you're ready to go. You'll have a chance to shower at the hospital and it'll be magical like a spa treatment, so bring your favorite shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. Yes! You'll be great, sending you good vibes!

      Kelly Bajaj most hospitals use Pampers and they're one of my least favorite brands. I only like Seventh Generation, the Target brand, and the Aldi brand. If you have a preference, it's best to bring your own. I'll never put a baby in Pampers.

      +Susan Yara I don't know how many days after you should wash it but my aunt apparently washed her hair immediately after birth and she got really sick and got headache and backache(she had normal delivery ) Anyways ask your doctor this question??

      The hospital where i am tells you to get in the shower before your allowed to go home so almoat every woman washes their hair here just incase anyone about to give birth reads this comment thread and worries about washing you will REALLY want to get clean after birth

      Huh?! I'm on my 4th and have never heard that. In fact, they make you get up and shower no matter how tired/sore/etc you are. That sounds like one of those old school old wives tales.lol
