I just had this crazy idea of putting an AR cantilever mount backwards on this picatinny rail so the weight of the weight of the scope balances the revolver better.
You chose the right model, just a fantastic hand gun. I love the 44 mag and custom load my own. I still shoot my 29-2, 8 3/8" I bought new. Just a great hand gun. Thanks for posting.
First time I've seen this video after looking for months but I'm glad to see people posting more of this gun it shoots like a dream great trigger and manageable recoil
rcsix3rd Man, I think I've got something like 8 different videos that have this gun in it...lol and I'm not done yet. It's one of my favorite guns to shoot. I'm glad you thought of my channel when you saw this thumbnail :)
I agree, the 44 is fun to shoot. I shot a 500 s&w several times lately and I couldn't find anything fun about it. Next you should do some shooting for group size and some long range shooting with the Smith.
Hey Plinkster, First, thanks again for another great vid. Been watching your channel for the past few years and enjoy sitting in my chair in the evening and watching someone shoot in their backyard as many of us don't have that luxury in our more "condensed" environments. :)I wanted to add that one of the great things about the 44mag is the range of factory loadings that one can obtain; not to mention what can be done when handloading. If I'm not mistaken, the Am Eagle loads (240grn) you were using are Federal's product AE44A, which according to their specs produce about 800 ft-lbs at the muzzle (6 in barrel). That's on the low end of 44 mag performance. I run Remington UMC 180 grn in my Mk XIX Desert Eagle which is spec'd at almost 1100 ft-lbs at the muzzle (also for 6 in barrel). While that's almost 300 ft-lbs higher, there are other factory loads that are at the 1200 ft-lb level which is 50% higher than the Am Eagle you were using. Of course, there are hot loads such as Buffalo Bore +P rounds that are spec'd at around 1600 ft-lbs; which would be 2x that of the Am Eagle.Perhaps a good video would be a comparison of different ammo brands / loadings to demonstrate recoil and muzzle flip and possibly the effects on targets. Would be educational and fun to watch. :)Best regards and GB.
My wife and I went to an indoor range about a month ago, and fired a variety of pistols, this 629 being one of them. Very comfortable in the hand, and really a joy to shoot. We also shot a S&W .357, 6" barrel, and I found that the .44 was actually easier to control, the compensator is really worth its weight in gold when it comes to this pistol. We then each got to fire the S&W .460, and even it with .454 loads was a handful to shoot, and not something I think I would enjoy shooting more than once or twice in the run of a day. This .44 however....could shoot for as long as my wallet would allow me. I have done some competitive shooting in the past, and would never have considered using a revolver for comp shooting....but this one I would give it a shot for sure.
"You know you need it in your life" - I felt the exact same way about my 629 Competitor, and my M500 Backpacker - I know that feeling all too well. My next "white elk" wheelgun is the .460 Bone Collector (and maybe the .500 one too) - sweet acquisition you've got there!
I've seen several videos on this revolver and no one ever talks about how it has a two-piece barrel. The comp also serves as a barrel nut. Very cool design, probably more accurate too.
I own a stainless 629 and I love it! I love my Delta Elite, I like my Glock 20, and I even like my Witness P in 9mm... but when I wanna be sure to pop a target at distance, I go to my 629. It's also my bear gun and I carry it while hunting deer and elk in case I get a close enough shot to use it.
Amazing how accurate a revolver can be. Have a 5" SW 27 that I can't miss with along with a 5" Lipsey's RBH Bisley in .44 special that is a joy to shoot as well. Cast and size bullets for both of them.
Funny, a week ago, you made me realize I also don't have a .44 magnum. I corrected this by buying this exact revolver. Darn you 22plinkster! Great video.
I'm with you, I love revolvers. Its always a tough decision whether to shoot the 1911 or gp100

Plinkster. Good vid ! The through the optic sight shots wear excellent. A good way to convey the effectiveness of that sight. Well done. By you and Smith& Wessen Performance Center. Thanks !
It's like the auto-level/compressor was shut off! Good thing I read this JUST before getting to the first shot - and I was on speakers at low level! Wow! Ouch!
I love my 629 4 inch. With handloas you can shoot .44SPL and it is downright mild. Havy .44 loads are more than manageable if you have decent hand strength. I think the recoil is likely helped more by that heavy 7 1//2 inch barrel than the compensator.
How to tell if your dog is better companion then your wife if you lock your dog in a garage for a whole day when u come to let him he's happy to see u but when u lock your wife in the garage for a whole day she's madder then hell at you
Oddly enough, I was at my local firearm dealer yesterday paying for a Savage 22LR, rifle and my eyes beheld a S&W Model 629 - 44 magnum, and I felt compelled to put it in lay-away for the same reason you mentioned. It's a must have gun for the collection.
Welcome to the wonderful world of revolvers! I too love my revolvers better than my semi-autos. I think I'm just liking firearms that dont require magazines these days...
Yes sir when you get to go hunt with the 44mag can you post some video I not got to take a deer with the 44 mag yet but I am shooting the Hornady 225 gr
killed my first handgun buck this past deer season...mine was a ruger sbh 10.5 inch that I customised...i get what you mean wanting to hunt with a 44 mag...nice revolver
I've read that the first Dirty Harry piece was actually a model 57. The studio couldn't get their hands on a model 29. Even though in the script they call it a 29.
Good review. Have you had an opportunity to harvest with this 629 yet? I have owned so many 44 mags. S&W & Rugers. Harvested a few Whitetail over the years. Nice revolver there.
+22plinkster have you tried the buffalo boar in the gun yet. I know that you are federal ammo supported but want to see what your thought were on the handling characteristics of that ammo in that firearm.
im a huge revolver fan, i have the model 629-1, its a tack driver. I HIGHLY recommend a Colt Python. u just might change your name to 357Pulverizer! happy shooting buddy, be safe
The very first handgun I ever tried was my grandpa's old N frame .44 magnum. I was eleven years old. That was the first year he started me off as a NRA member.
I just bought one, can't wait to shoot it. I have a 10in super blackhawk I used to hunt with but plan on replacing it with my new smith. Thanks for the video.
Lovely looking Pellet gun. is it .177 or .22 and will it also shoot ball bearings? oh and does it charge up off co2 and if so how many full power shots per co2 capsule? Thanks
I have a 629 Classic. One thing I had to change was the rubber grip. I tried to hold it tight, and I tried to hold it loose. Before around 50 rounds it would always rip a quarter sized blister in the palm of my hand. It would grip the top layer of my skin and pull the skin down on my flesh. Even when I tried to hold loose, once it hit thumb portion of the palm , there was no give between the rubber and my skin. I ended up getting a nice cherry wood grip. It's smooth, no checkering on the sides, and has finger grooves. Yea it's a little slippery on the back, but it never caused a blister again, and I still have complete control of the gun. Anyone else experience this issue with S&W rubber grips?
I hear you about the recent revolver obsession. I think of selling my semi-autos everyday to buy more revolvers, but then come back to reality after I realize how little $ I will get for them from a gun store.
I think I got hearing loss just from this video ... your voice was a little low then when you fired the sound punched my ear drums. I'm wearing a nice headset so the punch is much worse than ambient speakers. There are ways to edit the audio so those noise spikes are reduced. Anyway, that's a very nice .44 and I'm glad to see you enjoying it.
Aww man, first Hickok, then you find a performance center 44 mag, a man don't have a chance. Man: "Sorry honey, I just had to get one, both 22plinkster and Hickok have one." Wife: "Okay but I'm going shopping too!" Man: "Ouch, $$$."
I just had this crazy idea of putting an AR cantilever mount backwards on this picatinny rail so the weight of the weight of the scope balances the revolver better.

I love these things. The Performance Center at Smith and Wesson does a great job going through the actions of these revolvers.
I have heard that each performance center 629 is blessed by Jerry M. himself. :-)
I clicked on this video because of the thumbnail, I tought it was yours!

I got the same revolver and I love it. Very accurate even at long range with just the iron sights! Nice review!
I've got a S&W 629 Stealth. Love it! Very accurate and low felt recoil.
Funny, a week ago, you made me realize I also don't have a .44 magnum. I corrected this by buying this exact revolver. Darn you 22plinkster! Great video.

RIP headphoneusers! The voice was so low I had to turn up the volume - The first shot made me fart...
It's like the auto-level/compressor was shut off! Good thing I read this JUST before getting to the first shot - and I was on speakers at low level! Wow! Ouch!
Same issue here. Volume turned up and BOOM!!!!!!! I nearly followed through :P

Well said!!!!!!!

I cant tell who I like more,... you or Hickock, make more videos bro
Two 22s is just like one 44.
I just ordered one, this has made me even more excited to get it

Love that pistol. Thanks for taking the time to review and share!
Nice. But I do like the ruger redhawk hunter also in the 44 mag.
Real nice.... I just bought a 629 and love it!!! You should think about getting the 460 smith and Wesson
I apologize for the poor audio on this video. I had my mic settings wrong.
I didn't notice anything bad?

i'll never understand gun enthusiasts, but i appreciate the comprehensive reviews when i'm shopping online.
Great video, love the 44mag. Revolvers are a blast.
That is one nice revolver. I have shot some 44 magnums that kick like a mule. Keep on keeping on.
Thanks alot plinkster! You're right I had to have one....on order 👍😎
+22plinkster your videos get better and better every time keep up the great work
reason why you love revolver, it is because awesomeness. Plus, if you have a failure to fire, you just keep pulling the trigger.

Beautiful gun, it deserves that sight on top
Thanks for sharing 22. What a great looking gun. Wow!
Have you found any nicely fitting holsters for the S&W 629PC Hunter?
Looks like a good time!

Nice revolver Plinky. Looks tame for a 44mag.
Wow...thanks for the nice video. I think my priorities have changed. What a beauty.
HOLY SHIT THAT IS LOUD, I knew it would be loud but I was still underprepared 0,o
God that gun looks awesome
I opted for a S&W 69 combat magnum for my first 44.
Thanks for the volume! When I'm watching a big gun being shot, I hate to hear that inadequate "pop"!
Squirrel gun?
killed my first handgun buck this past deer season...mine was a ruger sbh 10.5 inch that I customised...i get what you mean wanting to hunt with a 44 mag...nice revolver
Instead of 22plinkster it's now 44plinkster
I like how you make it seem like selling your dog is harder than selling your kids haha
Your range desperately needs a gong... It'd be as if we yanked Hickock out of 1965 with a time machine.
VOLUME WARNING - I nearly shat myself when he fired the first shot lol
Now to use that beast in What will that shoot threw or how many of ________ will it shoot threw?
Zeke just told us to call you "plinky" on GCR #63. Also I would like to see some hunting videos with that magnum.
Thanks for the video! This will be on my list now
gorgeous gun, nice optic
Are your steel plates just hanging on shepherds hooks? I can't get the plates to stay put with larger calibers. Thanks
629 4" reg sights is what I use to take my Deer with !!
I've read that the first Dirty Harry piece was actually a model 57. The studio couldn't get their hands on a model 29. Even though in the script they call it a 29.
Like the range. Nice setup!
You need to show us your whole gun collection!
my Dream revolver right there!
Good review. Have you had an opportunity to harvest with this 629 yet? I have owned so many 44 mags. S&W & Rugers. Harvested a few Whitetail over the years. Nice revolver there.
+22plinkster have you tried the buffalo boar in the gun yet. I know that you are federal ammo supported but want to see what your thought were on the handling characteristics of that ammo in that firearm.
you should try out the 460 Rowland
im a huge revolver fan, i have the model 629-1, its a tack driver. I HIGHLY recommend a Colt Python. u just might change your name to
357Pulverizer! happy shooting buddy, be safe
2:44 "go ahead...make my day...punk!"Yeah that's some good kaboom there. Looking forward to the hunting vids with this one.
must be nice to live near the woods with your own setup
The very first handgun I ever tried was my grandpa's old N frame .44 magnum. I was eleven years old. That was the first year he started me off as a NRA member.
I just bought one, can't wait to shoot it. I have a 10in super blackhawk I used to hunt with but plan on replacing it with my new smith. Thanks for the video.
that's a great looking wheel gun, I've been fighting the urge to buy another revolver .
hmmmm. that is definitely up there on my want list. behind a few long distance rifles.
Lovely looking Pellet gun. is it .177 or .22 and will it also shoot ball bearings? oh and does it charge up off co2 and if so how many full power shots per co2 capsule? Thanks
have you tried out the Taurus Raging Bull in .44 magnum? I have it with an 8 3/8" barrel with a Burris FastFire II red dot. its a sweet shooter too.
That is a nice 44.
great video....why the comp model...too loud as is
I have a 629 Classic. One thing I had to change was the rubber grip. I tried to hold it tight, and I tried to hold it loose. No hearing protection?
Ear plugs.
Earplugs. You can just barely see them.
Any comments on Hunter vs Stealth Hunter??
I hear you about the recent revolver obsession. I think of selling my semi-autos everyday to buy more revolvers, but then come back to reality after I realize how little $ I will get for them from a gun store.
one important question, can you shoot lead bullet out of this gun, because of compensator ( muzzle break)? the manual is very brief and not clear?
I cant see any ear plugs in your ears. Did you shoot that without protection?
Mr Jerry M dont flinch, just finished watching his 44 mag video 18 shots in 8 sec
First shot way to close for that caliber. Increible revolver.
i miss my stainless steel 629
Very very good job ..keep up the great work..
paint the steel white! haha love the vids
man, that slug gets there quick
Where's your ear pro man? Gonna go deaf!
I thought that too... 44s are loud to begin with, but with that comp...
They are called "ear plugs". I don't even shoot a 22lr without hearing protection.
Ear plugs. Many of us use them.
+22plinkster are they clear or just way in there? Don't see anything at 7:13 and on
+tm965 they are Champion ear plugs that you can buy at Walmart. They have an orange tint to them, but they are mostly clear.
Dang, now I have to save up for two of them!
Thanks for the post.
Serious question : Can the .44 Mag out of a 16 inch barrel take big hogs (bigger than 200lbs) ? If so, what is the maximum reasonable distance?
Aww man, first Hickok, then you find a performance center 44 mag, a man don't have a chance.
Man: "Sorry honey, I just had to get one, both 22plinkster and Hickok have one."
Wife: "Okay but I'm going shopping too!"
Man: "Ouch, $$$."
Can you take that entire sight off of it, or is it part of the gun?
was curious what ammo did you use on your pig hunt, I am getting ready to go on my first pig hunt with a 44 and I was wondering what ammo used?
