  • Replacing broken fans on the MSI RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090 Suprim GPU is easy, this video contains everything you need to know to order the correct fans and then replace them. It also covers the gotchas and makes sure you don't run into problems.
    Fan Part Numbers on units in this video, found on rear of fans: PLD10010B12HH
    Fan dimensions of the fans replaced in this video: 95mm Diameter, 40mm between screw holes, 12mm depth (face to base)
    Cable Lengths of fans replaced on my unit: Left = 215mm, Middle 105mm, Right 125mm.
    Note that the lengths of the Left and Middle fan are both from where the cable leaves the fan unit to the plug. And around 40mm of the lengths are shared.
    0:00 - Intro and prep
    1:05 - Unscrew Fan Shroud
    1:50 - Unscrewing the Fans
    2:10 - Removing the Shroud
    2:40 - Removing the Fans
    4:10 - Installing new fans
    5:20 - Replacing the Shroud
    5:45 - Screwing the Fans Back in
    6:30 - Screwing the Shroud in
    6:40 - Reconnect Fan Headers

    Thanks for a great video! Just got this card used, and needed to replace the fan.
    Can I ask where you purchased the new fans? The double fan is a little more difficult to find.

      Depends on where you are, you can find them on eBay. I actually had to get this one from AliExpress, but its a mine field as there are non-original and either counterfeit or possibly fans that didn't pass QA there. So if you go that route, buying the cheapest may be a false economy and you definitely want to check all the dimensions and cable lengths with the buyer before you buy, and check feedback and the number of units they have sold.

    Hi there mate what an amazing video! this is so useful. Im experiencing a problem with my suprimX 3070 as the fans are making an audible annoying rubbing sound the second they start spinning and at higher fan rpm they also rattle which only worsens the problem. (this has been doing this from the minute i got it to which i haven't had the gpu for long, i have also seen another suprim card irl and there is no such issue). My question is if i let MSI know before hand of this issue would this void my warranty if i tried replacing them myself? as i genuinely cannot go through the hassle of returning it and would they be able to source me some replacement fans? If you can do you have any good links for any replacement fans? (i live in england)
    Thank you

      Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it and I am really happy it was useful.
      I had a trio card that right from new made a rattling sound sometimes, but not always, but especially at higher fan speeds, and those are very similar cooler setups. In that case, the shroud wasn't quite correctly aligned, and loosing the shroud screws and moving the shroud slightly fixed it. Check the fans are evenly spaced from the shroud.
      As for changing them, I don't know if this would void warranty but I think it would be really hard to justify that unless there was obvious damage done during the fan replacement that could cause the card to fail, such as PCB damage, which is highly unlikely. That said, in many places there is a right to repair rule that stops that behavior, but I dont think the UK has that legal protection. However, its a pretty straight forward job so it would be hard to cause damage and I personally doubt MSI would pull up on it. But mileage may vary there, and I can't be sure. You could keep the originals and put them back to standard if you did need to make a claim, I think thats very reasonable and MSI generally have a good rep.
      As for buying them, I had a really mixed experience with buying fans from Ali Express and I had to return many, but the Suprim fans I got looked very much like they were originals and they worked perfectly. But I would honestly check ebay as you are likely buying those same fans, but with buyer protection and a much simpler return process. If they are the wrong size or don't work perfectly, return them inside the 30 days.
      As for warranty, obviously the safest thing is to return them and get a replacement assuming its covered. I returned one card with a noisy fan to Scan and they were excellent and just replaced it with a new card, which I think was above and beyond and I had the replacement in days. So you could check with the return policy of your supplier, unless it was a second hand purchase. If so, I would just go and swap them.
      Hope this helps, and good luck!

    Hi mate, i have an issue with my 4090 Suprim X. The two fans on the left (the ones that come together with one connector) make a rattling sound with high RPM. I have removed the shroud and no noise anymore... I have just ordered two fans from Ali Express going off the part number on the back on the fan. I seen your comment saying your shroud was mis-aligned... though i cant tell if thats the case for me.. It didnt seem to be hitting anything. Im just wondering now if i have wasted money and i should try the shroud back on.
    The noise happens when the fans are at 100 percent. Its a horrible noise. So now im running the card without a shroud it looks really ghetto but atleast its working. I got the card from Overclockers UK... not sure on the warrenty but i got the fans for 37 quid. Do you think its a fan issue or not? When i pressed the fans in a little the noise went... it was coming from two fans not the last one. I seen two other reddit posts with this exactly model and same issue. One guy RMA'd and the other is also running shroudless. I even took out the most noisey fan and seated some thin foam under where the fan outs to see if that stopped the vibration rattling noise with no luck. Its either the fans or the shroud however.... both the fans on the one splitter make noise and the other does not... Are they from a bad batch and the single fan isnt? Im not sure. Any advice? Was planning on running shroudless till the Ali express fans come. I did have a really good look and couldnt see the shroud touching anything and the two noisey fans where not hitting it.

      The first thing I would suspect is that the shroud just needs moving a touch, I have had this on an MSI trip card, and loosening and slightly shifting the aground fixed it. But it’s also possible a fan is bad, it’s vibrating and that is causing the contact.
      I would try and replace the shroud and if it makes the noise, try and isolate which fan it is and which side. You can often see visually if the fan isn’t central in its place.
      You could also return the card under warranty, but it’s a drama and you might be without it for a few weeks.

      @sometechguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Saw you said you had isolated it. Maybe they are just bad fans. With the shroud off and 100% fan , so you still feel any vibration on the card?

    • @johnboy2436
      @johnboy2436 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sometechguy it has to be the fans. i can hear the noise coming from the bearing... tho it only does it with the shroud on. I tried to put shroud back on and readjust it... it was seated perfect yet it still did it. Its bad fans i ordered some from ali express yesterday. The shroud has an effet on how the air flows and i think puts more pressure on the bearing.

      @@johnboy2436same problem here. MSI Suprim 4090. Fan nearest the card I/O vibrating horribly anything about 92% and 65°. only happens if the card is warm. Just deciding whether RMA or fix it myself. CCL computers have given me a return label but I'm just not sure I can be bothered if I can fix it myself. Any update?

    WHY CANT SOMEONE MAKE 5000 - 8000 RPM CUSTOM FANS FOR GPU's?
