    Replaced 2 fans so far in my 3080, both while watching this video to remind myself how. You're a lifesaver!

    I'm going to be trying this in the near future. The center fan is failing, has come loose, wobbles, noisy and I don't want to RMA this card FOR THE SECOND TIME, for a fan failure. I RMA'd it the first time out of concern of voiding the warranty, but it cost me a fortune in shipping and I'm not going to do it again for 1 fan. Thanks for the tutorial. Appreciate it. It's clear, to the point, excellent.

      Same here… center fan going slowly to fail …

      RMA of cards is so painful and if the GPU is your primary card then being without it for many weeks isn't really practical. So it's worth weighing changing the fans yourself for sure, it can reduce downtime to less than an hour.
      Thank you for the comment and feedback. 👍

      Did you replace it? I'm having the same issue, I wonder if its the fan issue or the card itself since I just bought a used rtx 3090.

    What size screw driver for the actual fan screws? Replacing a fan in a few days and I wanna make sure I’m prepped. Thanks for the informational video!

      Hi, thanks for the comment and sorry I didnt get back before your work. As it happens, I don't have one of the cards to hand currently, but the EVGA cards use hex bits, unlike most of the vendors. But if you have a selection of those, in smaller sizes, you should be good. Good luck with the change, but you should be fine as its pretty straight forward.

    Is it using the same 4 pin that pc case fan uses? I'm thinking of modding it to use my 2 noctua 120mm

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they are proprietary connectors (at least they are not the same as MB fan headers), and the connectors also vary by GPU manufacturer. If you are going to do a mod like that, you likely need to power those off of a MB based fan header I would guess. The draw may also be different and you don't want to blow the GPU up! 😊
      But good luck with the project if you go ahead, sounds fun.

    Would this be about the same process on an EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3?

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had not opened up an FTW, but I would think it’s similar. The process is along the same lines on most of the cards I looked at, but there could be some variances. For example, the MSI Trio and Suprim are almost exactly the same, but lower end Ventus is slightly different.

    Seems this a common issue with EVGA?

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I dont think its specific to EVGA, and I guess they all use similar fans from the same list of suppliers. But the EVGAs certainly fail.

    Thank you for the tips!! trying to get as most lifespan in my 3080 ti xc3 till those 40 series drop down in price. Cant justify paying 1300 usd for a 4080

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No problem. nVidia seems to have lost it's mind with pricing. The 3080Ti is a good card, I wouldn't be in a rush to replace and pay those prices either.

    I have an EVGA RTX2070 and the RGB light stopped working and I smelled burnt plastic. At the time both fans and card worked and it seemed more like a cosmetic issue with the LED burned out. A few days later both fans stopped working on the card but it still works. Light task and the GPU stays below 40 degrees. Can I continue to use the card or should I replace? I don't do any demanding gaming....just some old Half Life Deathmatch gaming which seems to only raise the temp to around 50.

    • @sometechguy

      Hard to really say without knowing the cause. Bit of a worry you had two failures within a few days, could suggest another root cause. I would get the card looked at, but I couldn’t suggest a cause myself.

    Hi there. i'm gonna change the fans on my 3080 FTW3, I'm getting completely crazy with the ticking they do. Took me so much time to figure it out ...blaming the HDD, the watercooling, the case fans, checking by ear etc... no fan curve solves it...40%, 50%.... intermittent ticking/rattling....Difficult to know which exact fans are doing it, seems to be the middle one and the right one (gpu mounted on mobo). I started looking for refs which lead me here eventually. The ref you give is for sleeve bearing fans. Apparently there are also ball bearing ones which should be sturdier . I'll check what is the reference of the originally mounted ones . It's really a pity for such a good brand to feature such a design flaw, and it seems to be here since the 20x0 or even before ...And I could say I'll never buy an EVGA card again, but, well....as they stopped making graphics cards 😅...

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have seen some GPUs with the ticking sound that may happen intermittently or at specific RPMs, and actually it may be that the fans are not faulty. I would look to see if the fans have an even gap around them from the shroud, and maybe just loosen the shroud and adjust it. This solved this exact issue for me on a MSI 3070 Trio card. It was caused by the fans just lightly touching on the shroud at certain speeds.
      Hope that helps and it turns out to be the case here. Good luck!

      @@sometechguy I removed the card from the PC, tried moving the fans by hand, they seem ok, no ticking. Removed the middle one, pressed the center a bit etc, put it back, no change . I already ordered the replacement fans . Maybe I'll try with just removing the casing/shroud before changing them and leaving the card 'nude' to check .Thanks for answering btw ;)

    • @sursumcorda4164
      @sursumcorda4164 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sometechguyOK I disassembled the shroud ( the technique is not quite the same as the XC3 : 4 screws on 1 side, and on the other side 1 screw on each fan mounting that in fact maintain the shroud not the fans . And the fan connector. Just plugged the card like that with 'nude' fans. The rattle and clicking is still here so definitely the fans and not their position relative to the shroud . Next step , change them when I get the AliExpress order 😅

    Where did you buy your fans? Looking to do this fix on my EVGA xC3 3080ti

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I picked up some on aliexpress, they had generic fans which were a lot cheaper but the ones with the molded bumps on the blades were more expensive, but looked more like originals. I wouldn't recommend the AliExpress experience though, the fans are also available on ebay (at least in the UK) and its easier to return them if they look questionable, don't fit well, or don't work.

    Thanks! It has been helpful! Do you have some advice to controll all 3 fans from non official software (EVGA Precision X1)? I'm only able to spin 2 fan with "Fancontrol". What software do you use?

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use MSI afterburner for this, and didn't run into a problem. I don't know if its important that the XC3 card has 3 fan headers, and most cards have only two headers, with one of them shared for two fans. Maybe the software is only addressing two headers for that reason, but I didn't see this issue in Afterburner at least.

    Y donde puedo comprar ventiladores nuevos?

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would suggest somewhere like Ebay, due to the buyer protection available. But it depends what is available where you live. I have bought from AliExpress, but I wouldn't recommend it personally as I had very hit and miss results in quality. I was able to return poor quality fans, but it isn't always easy and many of the fans appear to be after market but labeled with original manufactures labels.
      There are also some sites available that sell fans, make sure they offer a return policy in case the fans you receive do not fit correctly, and follow my advice from the videos on checking dimensions first.
      Good luck, the fitting should go smoothly once you have them
