  • This video demonstrates how nasal packing is performed (0:20) for severe nosebleeds whether it occurs spontaneously or whether after sinus surgery, nasal surgery, or rhinoplasty. Also included is an animation (1:25) showing what is happening internally. The type of nasal packing shown is a Rapid Rhino. Nasal packing is most commonly performed in the ER, operating room, or an ENT office

    I had this done for the first time about a week and a half ago, I have hemophilia mild type A and a nosebleed that wouldn't stop due to me missing the clotting factor in my blood. I'd never been in more discomfort/pain in my life, broke down in my mom's arms countless times every day. I probably sound like a bit of a wuss but when I tell you that it was hell, at least in my head; I'm not exaggerating

    • @extwocy9416
      @extwocy9416 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still currently have a disintegratable packing in my nose as a precaution just because with hemophilia you never rlly know what's gonna happen, it's not as uncomfortable as the inflatable packing nor was it anywheres as painful to have it put in but trying to breath is still kinda hard; that could also be due to the fact that I have a broken nose tho.

    Had this done last Thursday in both nostrils due to Epistaxis. It's bad enough when they put them in but excruciating when they blow them up. I don't know whether it was shock but I was shaking uncontrollably. It feels like you have a Migraine, Sinusitus, toothache in every tooth and earache. Unbearable. Had them removed on Friday, nose cauterised and packed with soluble sponges. Using Naseptin cream. Initially just felt bunged up but now I feel dreadful. Extremely painful to eat and drink, pain in my ears and face. Taking paracetomol every 4-5 hours to keep on top of the pain!

    Just had this procedure done three days ago. It's VERY unpleasant. The sensation of the packing being inserted deep into your nose is extremely uncomfortable. The pain that comes after is even worse as it doesn't just stay localized to your nose; it radiates to your teeth, your ear, and the back of your head. Eating and sleeping during this time is an absolute nightmare because of the pain. I had to keep mine in for 48 hours (two days) before the doctor at the ER removed it. Having it removed hardly hurt, and it felt so relieving when I realized the bleeding had stopped. The pain stops immediately thereafter.
    Note: If you ever need this procedure done, please keep a pain killer like Advil or Tylenol extra strength handy. Advil was the only reason I managed to sleep throughout the ordeal.

    I have severe nosebleeds, and about a year and a half ago I had a covid test. The doctor pushed the q-tip so deep inside my nose and literally swirled it around for way too long, I felt like someone shot my face with a shotgun. Worst pain of my life.

    I currently got this procedure done to me yesterday 10/26, and I have to wait at least 48 hours till they take it out. When the doctor inserted it via my nasal cavity it was a 10 of pain with no Tylenol. Hopefully, my nosebleeds stop after they take it out tomorrow. Just make sure not to take any medications with aspirin if you have a nosebleed, my mistake was using aspirin because I had constant headaches.
    Update: On 10/28 they removed the nose pack, and I immediately felt relieved. The execution of the procedure is fairly simple. From the patient perspective, it is very painful. Hopefully, I never have that done on me again. lol.

    Just had this done twice first one was a nightmare as I don't think she was sure what to do and it bled even more 2nd time seemed to stop it. Then cauterized with silver nitrate and cleaned and packed with dissolvable packing. Horrible experience. Started a terrible nosebleed because after covid I have frothy mucus that turns to elastic band mucus and when you blow nose rips the interior

    My pack was removed 2 days ago but now I am not sure how to remove the dried web - like gauze lining the inside. I was given no instruction on this and fear if I attempt to remove it the bleeding might start again. When it was done I thought the mesh they described would either break down and fall out on it's own much like a scab or be absorbed but does not seem to be going to do that. Maybe someone could offer advice. Thanks.

    I had this for four days. Very uncomfortable. Really didn’t sleep for those nights. Once out cauterized with silver nitrate lasted 3 days before it started again. Heavy bleeding in morning. Went back. More silver nitrate. Lasted a day. More silver nitrate and medicated soft packing for 5 days. Going back and hopefully it over. Oozing out of nose. Started a week after starting Eliquis. Haven’t had Eliquis for 12 days now. Never had nose bleeding like this. Getting depressing. Can’t go out like this. Was at Costco checking out and it started out of nowhere heavy. Fortunately my mask contained it. I’m a very active 69 year old and can’t exercise. Wonder how much longer and what is next?

    Got this exact 'plug' last week. I was pouring like a sieve. It was removed after 5 days as stated here. No pain in or out. It felt like I had a partial headcold because my second nostril was open and all right. Not pleasant but certainly no bid deal. If bleeding is constant and/or somewhat heavy, this is your only real alternative. I'm reading all this 'pain' stuff here and I honestly can't appreciate it because it wasn't painful to me in the least. I wonder if their doctors (or, increasingly now, 'physicians assistants') over-inflated the nasal insert? There IS a recommended pressure depending on your nose size, obviously. But even mild pain? Nope. The discomfort was in having the equivalent of a stuffy one-half of my nose, like having a cold. That's all.
