Here’s a solution that worked for a friend who was addicted for years. His ENT physician recommended this method. Buy a fresh bottle of spray and continue your usual dosage. When the bottle is half full, top it up with distilled water or saline solution. When it is again at half, repeat. Keep this up, and eventually the medicine will be barely a component of the spray, and the addiction will be over.

@@miran213 I had Electrocoagulation of the nasal auricles, No nasal septum surgery for now because it's an invasive procedure. I didn’t use xylometazoline since the break before operation. It’s better now and I don’t think about breathing all the time, but it’s still the issue, can’t be fully fixed because of parents mistakes but it’s 100% worth it to make an appointment with an ENT specialist and do something about it, at least try. However I can go to the party, meeting, work without a Spray in my bag and im not addicted anymore. I had like 6 doctors and was looking for the right one 2 years but I finally found the one. If I will be still having issues making life difficult I will go to the same one and I think we gonna do nasal septum surgery or again Electrocoagulation because it can be reapeted. I didn’t pay shit for that so it’s even cooler. Sometimes I have shortness of breath and a blocked nose but when I don't think about it, it seems to pass and it’s not so often as before. Xylometazoline made it 100% worse because when you spray the nose and xylometazoline comes off after a few hours then the nose swells double. And spray addiction have a lot of other cons, but don’t make it hard on you, try something to use less spray and less strong version and just look for doctors via Health Insurance Company if possible and test it out. I kinda miss xylometazoline but my nose was swollen inside af, I was bleeding all the time, felt like something is pulsing there. For now, I do nasal rinses and lubricate with moisturizing ointment. Don't let any doctor tell you that there is nothing wrong with your breathing. Steroid sprays from the prescriptions won’t help. Get a sinus CT scan and act. Good luck!

Honestly if I could have surgery to never have a blocked up nose I'd do it. I know it's addictive, I know my family look at my like I'm an idiot for taking them and even worse when I panic that I'm running out or that the shop is out of stock but the alternative is sat there struggling to breath.
I would be wary about using steroid nasal sprays for a long time and would do my due dilligence and check them out. I was severely addicted to Afrin and felt suicidal at one point. The big pharma really should make people more aware of this rebound congestion and addiction as it can be serious. Does it suit the money in their pockets not to focus more on this negative side effect? I got off the Afrin by using sinusoothe nose spray after I read an article on their website which was really helpful. They even suggested a dilution method to 'wean off' the offending spray. I have never looked back and don't even use their spray any more.
There are some nose spreading tapes that gave me some relief. They pull up your sinuses from the outside so that you can breath. That helped me a lot and I hope it helps u overcome it aswell

I used isotonic nasal spray everyday when i had sneezing and cold (OTC nasal daily hygiene spray) . All of sudden my nose is clogged and it is more than 10 days now. Visited ENT today and i was suggested to stop using this nasal hygiene spray immediately. Not sure how long it is gonna take to get back to normal.
I was addicted to afrin for 3 years every day. And it is tough. Even 40 days later I am still congested. I have fewer moments congested than not but it’s still there. Once you get past the first couple days u get used to not being able to breath correctly. Also make sure you take some purposeful deep breathes because sometimes you aren’t getting the oxygen you need with small short congested breathes. This one was a struggle good luck you you all but you can do it and it’s worth it.

Get a doctor to prescribe a round of steroids for a week. After 3 days you will breathe better and towards the end you can quit the spray without rebound congestion. Hooked on nasal spray for 3 years and it was that easy.

it took me two weeks to finally clear up. Use afrin in one nostril only. You will be able to breathe on that side while the other one goes back to normal. Once the other side heals you ween off the other side. It sucks but i was able to come off afrin.
@@editorrrr5196 i was unaware if using then prolonged, probably 3 or 4 months every 2 hours or so. I also used a nasal saline spray to help clean nose. Allergy nose spray and the above stated routine. It will go away after 2 weeks 3 weeks cold turkey if you chose both nostrils at once(very hard) so instead id reccomend weaning off one nostril at a time. The weaning side nose should be taped down to work/ sleep.

I have severe chronic sinusitis 10 surgeries, can’t smell or taste. I have to use it daily in order to breathe.

You can just go cold turkey. After the first day you get used to the symptoms. Doesn’t really take that long to start clearing up.

I did that, but after the treatment I got a cold which caused the condition to come back. Doctor's diagnosis was vasomotor rhinitis btw

I’ve been hooked on this thing for 8 years. I can’t sleep without it my worst nightmare is finding out I have no spray. Right now it is 4am and I forgot to buy spray after a night out every thing is closed. So I’m here drinking gin straight outta the bottle hoping it will get me drunk enough to endure this horrible blocked nose so I can sleep. I’m gonna see my doctor tomorrow to get me the steroids because this is no way to live.

This happened to me traveled 8 KM to a store that Google showed was open but it was not. Started watching a movie while breathing from my mouth. I was the first one to show up at my nearby store that day.

I got addicted to nose spray and i've been using it for 4 years and now i kinda have a bad smell and taste,,, please tell me is bad smell caused by nose spray FIXABLE?
I don't know about the bad smell and taste. Could be a sinus infection? not sure. But I am currently addicted to Afrin again. I successfully) weaned myself off of it back in 2016...but here I am again (long story). Anyway, the way I broke my first addiction to this stuff was that I used Afrin in only one nostril at a time. The other one stayed clogged. It took about 3-5 days and it was back to normal and then I started on the other nostril. It was miserable to go through but I did it. Now I have to do it again and I loathe even thinking about it.
I was addicted for 6 years, but I weaned myself by starting with a full bottle of decongestant spray and every night topping the bottle up with saline. By the end, your bottle will have 0 decongestant spray and only saline. It took around a month to fully wean off, but I haven't touched it in over a year.
