    I only discovered your channel yesterday, when I was doing alterations on a bridesmaid dress. You showed how you shortened the strap which was just as I do it, but I was excited to see that one can pull the strap through the side seam to finish. I had been doing invisible hand sewing all this time! Thank you!

    That is smart, opening up the side seam to get to avoid hand sewing!

    This was so helpful. I wasn't confident about how to go about with closing the dress back up, but this really helped. Thank you so much.

    This was very helpful. My first time taking up straps like this and I wasn’t sure how to do the sides of the straps after I did the shoulder seam. Thanks!

    Thank you so much again this is my second time having to go back through the years and watch your video. I really appreciate this. I’ve been sewing a long time but sometimes I just get stumped on different projects so I really appreciate this video still being up.

    This is my first time watching one of your videos. It was exactly what I needed. I'm altering a lined bridesmaid dress of crepe fabric very similar to the example dress you show and I will need to do as you have shown and open the bodice side seam. I enjoy alterations so much, but I've always been nervous about altering formal dresses. I loved your instructions and how you show every step of what you are doing. It has helped me so much. Thank you, thank you!! 🤗

      It really is! I had a call about altering a dress this way, but I didn't think I could... needless to say I got confident after this video but the person got someone else. Fine by me, but I had a friend send me 6 dresses, one of which needed this. I altered that, and two of my own.
      So absolutely grateful for your content! God bless you!

    This video is so good! Thank you for making this. I’m about to attempt this type of alteration this weekend on a similar dress. Do you have any recommendations on type of thread, which needle to use, and tension setting on the machine? (If this was mentioned in the video I totally missed it 😅)

    Thanks for the refresh! Doing a bunch of bridesmaids alts this week. When you took out the understitching, were you able to add that back in where you had seam ripped or will there be a little gap where that is missing in the altered dress? Sorry if you covered that and I missed it!

    • @SewCutebyKatietv
      @SewCutebyKatietv  ปีที่แล้ว

      I need a visual of what you're asking but I think I know but you don't have to do any understitching and there won't be any open gaps in the straps.

    HI! I have measured my niece and pinned where the alteration will be on the shoulder. My question is that my pin is marked on different locations in relation to the natural hem. Should I do the exact same thing on both sides to assure that the alteration hangs the same on both sides?

    Great video! Will be a very handy reference for me to alter a dress today!
    Quick question though, where is the best spot to open a dress at the bodice, if the zipper is on the side and not the back?

    How much should a home sewer charge for a job like this and hemming the dress. I am doing this for a friend but I am curious as to how much I would make if I did this as a home business. Thanks for the directions. So so helpful!

    • @SewCutebyKatietv
      @SewCutebyKatietv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alterations is based on time and how much you want to make an hour. I have to cover overhead expenses plus time at my store so what I would charge would definitely be more. If you are an experienced seamstress the bare minimum I would charge is $20 and hour. Also call around places in your area and tell them you have a dress that needs this done and ask what it would cost will also give you a ball park of what it cost to have done in your area.

    How would we approach it if the dress has short sleeves?

    • @SewCutebyKatietv
      @SewCutebyKatietv  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on how much you take up. You will do the same thing but the sleeve cap may need gathered to fit back into the armhole or you will have to take the entire sleeve out and lower the arm hole to fit the sleeve back in without having to gather the sleeve cap.

  • @marianavarro3892

    I would like to know how much do you charge for this kind of alteration.

    • @SewCutebyKatietv
      @SewCutebyKatietv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pricing depends on how much you want to make and hour and your overhead. When doing alterations time is money so not only do you need to be good at it you need to be able to do it quickly and as you probably know not all garments are put together the same and can take longer to take apart than put back together. I would probably charge $25-$30.
