This is 100% the Valve Lash Adjusters, and the rocker arm bearings going bad. All of them on Driver and Passenger side are supposed to be replaced around 120,000-140,000 miles to ensure there’s no ticking. So if the car has 170,000+ miles on them they are past due, and they all need to be replaced. You can do it with the engine still in the car.
Definitely one or more lifters giving you a ruff time my s10 has lifter tap just like that at idle it's ridiculously loud at idle and goes away with more than 1k rpm been doing it for about 40k miles still running great
That is the hydraulic lifters not expanding due to lack of oil on the upper engine. The solution is to change the lifters and then go with a heavier oil like 20 w 50. Its the thin 5 weight oils you people are using that causes this.
Tbh sounds like the exhaust, the noise is at the same pace as the valve train so it’s in tune with the operation of the valve train. Just my 2cents I read it’s in the junkyard now.
No…. Ran her for another year plus…. Noise did not change….. transmission then lost 3rd gear and failed inspection due to rust on the underbody…. So Old Faithful got a one way trip to the junk yard…. It was interesting that the sharp tapping noise never got any worse over that long period….
Sounds like the timing change slapping the block do to the change slides worn out have Sean the chane rub a hole.im the block the noise will travel theough the engine best eay to find out if so is to.pull. the oil.plug anf and scope it for plactic shaveing

Cam phaser locking pin is worn. Can run that way for years.

Clogged oil line to that head, there's a flow restrictor that gets clogged.
Still not sure - still driving her.... if she blows, will post what it was 🤪.....
Did you ever check spark plugs? Mine does the same at idle only.
