    This cat changed the course of rock n roll. His passing was a tectonic shift in the music world. It hurts to imagine what he could have done if he lived. Game Changer, Stardog R.I.P. great one.

      Changed the course of rockn roll? He died and MLB was quickly forgotten about

      @@bigblokeful he may have died but he influenced the grunge scene greatly. Their unique sound and style helped pave the way for other grunge bands to gain popularity and recognition. Mother Love Bone's blend of hard rock, punk, and glam metal, along with their theatrical live performances, inspired other Seattle-based bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden to develop their own sound and style. Their music also helped to establish the grunge scene as a whole and brought attention to the Seattle music scene. So when you say they were quickly forgotten about, that is a load of shite

    as a teenager living 20 miles south of seattle these guys were legendary to us. Back when he were listening to them and many others. Could have never imagined that one day ever one would be into our music scene. So crazy how big the seattle grunge scene got. Would have never thought in those days anyone would have even heard what we were rocking out to.

    The thing that sticks out the most to me is that for a whole genre that considers him the start of the whole thing. Their whole concept was anti rock star and this guy was all rock star. He could've been as big as axl rose in that sunset strip mid 80,s scene and been a stand out easily.

    Saw these guys many times. Was probably at this show bc The Central was my living room in the mid- late 80s. Malfunkshun, too. Such a loss, he was a wonderful guy. I know they say that about everybody but he really Was. I was working at Ticketmaster when the news of his passing broke. Disbelieving people calling in and getting very sad sad answers. In the office we were already worried besides bc there was a guy we worked with who split the bag w him but did live. IDK whatever happened to him. ❤

    • @SoulShines4U
      @SoulShines4U ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While I totally agree with your assessment of Andrew Wood's musical chops and writing skills, technically speaking it was Stone Gossard who wrote the song Bone China while Andy wrote the lyrics.
      Andy wrote both the music *and* lyrics to Stargazer, Man of Golden Words and Crown of Thorns. All the other songs on the Apple album were written by Stone Gossard with all song lyrics written by Andy Wood. Sole exception to this is the song Holy Roller which was written by Jeff Ament, lyrics by Andy Wood.

    • @gumshoeless5949
      @gumshoeless5949 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SoulShines4U You're right. Andy does a great job of performing (selling the spirit of) Gossard's music. I have to confess, Wood's compositions on the album - i.e., Stargazer, Man of Golden Words, Gentle Groove, and his crowning achievement of Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns - are my favorites (along with Bone China).
      From a distance and from all appearances, a sweet man, who in the words of Alice In Chains, "Would?", made a [really] bad mistake (miscalculation).

    • @JohnnyangelNIU
      @JohnnyangelNIU 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We will never know either way. Between this performance and the release of the album, the music was slowly evolving. Remember Pantera in 1988 - even with Phil Anselmo (essentially was Bulletboys meets Manowar(. By 1990, they had been completely re-packaged and had forged a movement. Alice In Chains and Soundgarden were more or less repackaged bands, also. It’s not out of the realm of possibility to see Andrew Wood couldn’t have done the same thing.

Just as rap and pop barely qualify as music, country is musical, but personally I can't stand it, every song sounds the same, country radio is just one long song broken up by auto sales and jewelry commercials. Can't stand the classic rock stations, it's just the same 30 or 40 songs over and over, the 50's and 60's rock are considered pioneers, but most of them just weren't very good. Take Jimi Hendrix, he made a screeching noise with feedback while mumbling lyrics. Beach Boys is just soundtrack music for 50's surfer movies. people have a natural inclination to take sides or form rival camps, the whole mob mentality. i was 20 in 92 when the whole kerfuffle happened about this "New" music, i personally never liked the Grunge thing and way back then i was very malevolent about it. because i disliked how hard it was being shoved in our face as the hot new thing but most of all because alternative music was not a new thing, all these kids were jumping on the grunge bandwagon in droves and part of joining into this perceived new scene meant heavily antagonizing the previous scene and the previous scene was seen as glam metal as if that was the only thing going on in the world before that.
    it could be argued that the birth of MTV made the music scene of the day switch from 70s classic rock bands to the weird new wave bands that i personally liked, and all of us kids followed right along. then about 5 years later MTV switched the focus to those L.A. sunset strip type glam metal bands and everybody followed along, then about 5 years later MTV switched the focus to these new band coming out of this scene in Seattle that they termed grunge and everybody followed along. so we werent cool, we werent discovering new things, MTV as telling us what to like and we went along for the ride. one of the things that really bothered me about the grunge tag scene was it didnt really make sense, the bands were all from the same city but other than that didnt have a lot in common. nirvana were more of a traditional 80s college rock station alternative band, but soundgarden and Alice in chains "as well as mother love bone" were both partially hailing from the same glammy sleazy rock scene inspiration that all of those sunset strip bands were and that all the new kids joining the scene were trashing constantly, yet they were somehow safe because now they were being labeled grunge just like nirvana were, arguably they were closer to guns n roses than they were to nirvana. and then pearl jam were more like some 70s hard rock inspired Neal Young loving group that again did not really fir in the same niche as nirvanas college alternative rock or Soundgarden and allice in chains sleaze/glam metal sound. it is amazing to me how MTV sold a new sound based on a handful of bands that werent playing the same kind of music as each other.
    and of course what started happening about 5 years later, maybe it wasnt as tight of a timeline but within just a couple of years of grunge it had mostly moved to pop soft rock versions of 90s alt rock bands and then a few years later they tried to start a new thing with nu metal/rap metal. but by this time MTV and TV were sort of becoming irrelevant because of the new technology of the internet, the same way TV had killed Radio decades before. it is almost sad now though that MTV doesnt still control the pop culture music zeitgeist, because no one seems to really know what the big thing is now. music has completely fallen into the background for most people, where as it was in the forefront for us growing up.

    So overrated. They never ventured past what had already been done. They didn’t change rock music. They didn’t define the Seattle sound. The only reason they’re legendary is because of their association to bands that DID change the course of rock, and the fact that Wood died of an overdose.

      I noticed that. From Kurt's manurisms with his mouth when he's playing the guitar, to his style. I just learned about Andy a couple years ago and noticed right away Kurt copied him.

      I think that that's probably about how most people feel about Andrew Wood and Mother Love Bone. They're just too scared to say so, though. It's certainly how I feel.
