Although this video was published 7 years ago it is still helpful. I haven't installed a clutch or a manual transmission for 20 years, but it's one of those things that I can't easily forget. But it is nice to have a reminder to check the pivot ball and the release bearing retainer, aka slide tube for wear.

Great video, where does one get this cap? Just had new clutch kit installed in our 1980 k20. Clutch works as before new clutch put in. Mechanic said my linkage was wore out and clutch was adjusted all way out. So got underneath truck and yes was adjusted all way out.😟 Could this be problem as your video states. Giving the truck is old me took mechanic word for it. It's been our firewood truck for over 10 years and really need it. In order to get some adjustment out of clutch me got a piece of longer all thread and ground down end to fit dimple in fork. Not clutch is working but seams to change frequently where it lets out day to day. Is there a way to inspect where fork is attached to bearing without tearing all apart? The clutch replacement beyond me capabilities is why took to a shop. Spent quite a bit of dollars for this job and is not happy with it way it is. Also me know this mechanic pretty well and like to trust him. He has done work on spouse truck before also. Although every time he has work on our vehicles me had to do something after he returns vehicle. 1980 clutch job-had to hook up wire plug for 4x4 light. Wife's 2004 Yukon, had to purge fuel charcoal canister system after get back from him cause engine would shut off at will shortly after returning it to us. Your thoughts be appreciated much.

If installed wrong, can you fix it without dropping the transmission?

I have a question. 20 some years ago I had difficulty with my 57 Pontiac Laurention, Canadian model . I replaced the clutch and presurplate and release bearing . And the clutch has never worked right since. The issue was if I can remember the release bearing had a long collar on it ,but the parts man told me that GM, only had a long and a short version, but the one I took out was longer than the longest one they could get. So the result is a soft clutch pedal ,that often needs help to get it to return. Can anyone help me with this problem. I cant even find the old one , so I can start over. Any HELP would be apricated.
