I'm a young-ish person with a chronic illness as you can tell by looking at my channel. I've been subbed to your channel for awhile. Just wanted to comment and say it's so great to see your passion for nursing. I can't tell you how important it is to us patients to have a good nurse. The longest I've spent in the hospital at one time was 6 months and the relationships I built with my nurses were so important to me. Some even saved my life a few times. Good luck to you!
Let me tell you guys that rewriting your notes like Kathryn showed really does help. I passed my first chemistry test using this method. Thanks Kathryn and can't wait to use this method once I hopefully start nursing school in the fall.

Love watching these videos and actually see what im getting myself into! I start college in the fall for nursing so im super excited :)
I was in the hospital back in 1990, my kidneys went haywire, I gained 40 pounds of water, went for a pile of tests. One day I was in my bed and the nurse came in with meds and told me to take them, this was not the meds I normally took and I refused the meds, she didn't like that. I reported her to her supervisor and it turned out it was for my roommate who had heart problems. When she realized she made that mistake she came back in and was very sorry she made that mistake and she felt very bad about it. Accidents can happen and I think its wise for the patient to know what they are taking and question something out of the ordinary. They did a biopsy on one kidney and found the problem, then I was put on meds to put the kidneys in remission. It took 2 years to get them in remission.
Hey Kathryn, I am currently in my second semester of my four semester undergrad program before applying to a BSN nursing program. I seriously cannot wait and I love your nursing videos, they make me excited and they help me know what to really expect both the good and bad. Hey Kathryn! I LOVE that you post these videos about nursing! I am a CNA and have been for 2 years, when you said that you where learning how to do patient care I was like,"that is why I do!" Haha! proud of you for finishing your 1st semester of nursing school. Just started school again and in my 1st semester of the RN-BSN program. Nursing school is tough but you seem so energetic and i wish i was like you now
I'm in nursing school clincals right now, and girl I WISH we had it like you do. It would be soooo nice to have a practice simulation with an actor before actual going into the real life hospital setting!! I'm a few weeks in now and I have gotten the hang of things, but I'm sure having that practice will give you much more confidence on your first day at the hospital!

I am in the nursing program at Sam Houston State! I am in my second semester now and its much harder than my first semester! I took Fundamentals, Health Assessment, and Pathophysiology & Pharmacology last semester and then this summer I took 2 10-week courses for Nursing Research and Nursing Concepts 1. This semester I am taking MedSurg 1, Psychiatric Nursing, and Geriatric Nursing. All of my lectures are on Thursday from 8-5 and I have clinicals Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with the most being a 10 hour shift...Its EXHAUSTING!! I had 1 clinical last semester and that was only 4 hours. I'm dying haha

hiya! i'm not really into youtube blogs at all (apart from makeup tutorials) but I've been looking for videos about student nursing for a while and yours always come up :P seen quite a few now and can't help but think how weird it must be to be a youtube star! you've got huge negativity but also huge support, makes me wonder how you cope with having so many people weigh in on your everyday life!! keep the nursing videos coming though, they're some of the only good ones on the whole interweb ;) seems like the education system is proper different in the US (seems better but the grass is always greener right?) :) love from a prospective scottish nursing student x

Your videos are so helpful! I'm still finishing up my core classes. Right now, taking micro along with some other classes that aren't science-related. This should be my last semester or core classes and then I'll work on applications. Have you taken the Teas V exam? I've heard from various people that's it's hard or "just okay". I have a study book here at home for it, but haven't gotten around to it since I've been drawing in my micro homework these days. Oh, and I just saw the previous comment about how your nursing videos aren't good. KathrynAnn , you keep doing you and ignore the negative comments! The variety in your videos is bound to help everyone in some way!
Back to nursing: I've been warned plenty of times that the first semester of nursing is the absolute hardest and they've all said the same thing as you- "if you can survive the first semester, you can get through anything!" That's exactly what they would say!
My professor in micro was warning us (in his words) that nursing programs are weeding out students by testing them in the first semester over pathophysiology, virulence factors, and etc. I have strong and weak points in all those topics.
Anyway, thanks again for your time in making these videos. There's helping me for sure!
Best of luck in the program! Do you recommend any books that I could study before getting into nursing program so that I am not weeded out? I keep thinking maybe the NCLEX RN study book may be a good one and get the pharmacology book as well in case they try testing me over my knowledge regarding medications. What about the Fundamentals of Nursing textbook too? Should I get those before the nursing program enrollment and study? I am getting the impression from my professor these days that you have to be a know-it-all by your first day of nursing school because they will test your knowledge and see if you remember anything from A&P and Micro.

+Stephani Lozano There are currently two degrees you can earn to become a RN there is a two year nursing program to get your associate degree in nursing or you can do a bachelors program which is typically a four year program but there are also varying programs some of them accelerated programs. To become a RN you must obtain one of these degrees and take the NCLEX which are state nursing boards.

What area of nursing are you going into ?
I'm a beginner. I'm majoring in Nursing and I'm at a community college. It's about to be my second year. The only classes I have left is A&P 2, Microbiology, probably sociology, Nutrition, and an algebra class. Basically I'm finishing up my Perquisites first. Im in the ADN (Associate Degree of Nursing) program then I'll transfer to an university to complete the program. My question is whenever I transfer to a university will I only do two years for my BSN or will it be something different? I'm still learning.

I have question! I live in Cali so it may be different from texas but is your program called bsn basic? Or the accelerated bsn program? I ask bc you only go for 4 semesters for nursing school right? The Accelerated bsn program is for ppl who have a degree in something else rather than a nursing degree for undergrad. It lasts 15 months so about 4 semesters as well. Usually the regular bsn programs are about 3 years/ 6-9 semesters long. I appreciate if you reply 💓 oh & congrats on getting through nursing school! Youre doing amazing!
I think the accelerated programs are also to accommodate people who are say....LVN's? If I'm not mistaken.

I'm not into nursing. not even planning to. Now back to back such videos are disappointing me. I wish you make videos like "Kathryn's 5 Clubbing outfits" "Kathryn's closet" "No makeup, makeup updated" "How you keep your house clean being living alone" etc etc.
Nursing school is extremely hard and takes up a lot of her time! She doesn't have to push herself harder for videos right now. It's also a big part of her life and she should be proud of how far she's come, I like these videos!
+Emily Roth I never said I dislike her. I'm her subscriber since she had an A line bob, her yellow bedroom and was a single teenage! I want to see more of her and I want the best for her. Her TH-cam is flourishing rapidly atm and no matter how busy she's with her life, she needs to prove herself(not mainly existing but new subscribers and about to subscribe users) with every upload in today's cut throat competitive world.

+Maria Dalton she gets paid for every video, she has ever made.. And keeps getting paid. So the views add up, and she can make a living off of that. So this video right now may only have 300+ views but it will get more. Plus add that to her videos that's she has ever made and she get money for those still.

I want to be a NICU nurse but I am sooooooo bad at math and chemistry.... When I say bad I mean horrible, I'm behind in math and chem is so hard... Should I try and pursue nursing anyway or figure something else out?
+Aubrey Bellinger I would say go for it! I'm not the best at math or chemistry either, but I'm in my first semester of nursing school currently. At my school we only have to take chemistry and math once, and then once we're in the program we don't have any other science/math classes, only nursing. While you will see science in math in nursing, it's much more about diseases, medications, and just caring for another person. It's much different than any math or science class you have ever taken!

How did you study for A&P? I made a 75 on my first exam and a 61 on my second. I take my time to study but I still manage to fail.
When I took A&P last semester the thing that helped me the most was just repetition. We had a specific biology Resource Center that had models that we would be tested on in class. It was really helpful to go in there with a couple people and just go over it time and time again. Also there were a lot of pneumonics out there that were really helpful. another thing that helped me was copying Paige out of the textbook and making them into flashcards. I mostly did that with muscles.

When I took A&P I hand wrote my notes in class, then when I got home I typed them onto my computer. I also read them ALL. THE. TIME, like, I carried them around with me and read them any chance I got.
Most people say reading the book helps, but that never seemed to help me, so what I did was I took my book to class with me and highlighted any high points that the prof pointed out in the lectures. Hope this helps!! :)
Try a study group. Email your classmates. That's what I did and people replied they needed help too! And the days I didn't meet with my study group I studied with quizlet.

It depends on the school. The best way to answer this is to find a school's website, locate their School if Nursing page, and start reading their admission requirements, prerequisites, etc.
Thankfully, there are also videos in TH-cam regarding nursing school admission process that you can search for.

+Alexa Yelken Physical/occupational therapy, you still help people get to where they once were. Also theres different types of nurses that dont require dealing with bodily fluids but in school they would make you go through that

so when in college to be a nurse, do you have to go through the classes with older people...? I am in high school and am thinking of going into nursing. and I don't want to work with old people 😂😂😂🚫

Yes you have to work with older people for a very large portion of your clinicals. I would not suggest being a nurse if you do not want to work with the aging population.
