Vita Kristelle Resilla i know it’s like 2 years later but i’m going to college and doing my pre reqs for nursing and i plan on rewriting my notes because i suck at studying and keeping focus i brought a recorder but how would you make the notes like correspond to the notes taken in class
Vita Kristelle Resilla repetition, repetition, repetition! There’s a reason they made us write our spelling words 5 times each back in elementary school! I learn/study the same way.
My biggest test taking tip is Read the Question without reading the multiple choice answers. Write down your answer or the first thought that came to mind. See if your answer fits one of the multiple choice. Otherwise I second guess myself. This worked when I was learning dendrology (Tree Identification/Latin/English). Apply it to other basic memorizing classes.
Kazaku Kogalniceanu cuz in nursing school most of the time we have 3 right answers to choose from and one or two obvious wrong answers. Then you have to choose between which is the MOST right. It’s hard to explain

We are very similar learners! I did a lot of the same things when I was studying through nursing school as well. One thing I also did that I found helpful was searching a certain concept on TH-cam. Finding a video that helped explain things in a different way was SO helpful and it allowed me to see how certain things affected the body.
WOW!! You had me at binders with colorful bubbles... but when you showed the side by side comparison sheet !!???.....I almost hit the dog gone ceiling. I guess you win for best note taker EVER. You are going to be very successful and will be inspiring your subscribers all the way!! Great Job!!
I can tell you as an RN now I wasn't the top of my class but after school those 85's won't faze you and you won't look back your going to be an amazing RN and that number won't define you or your title. A patient won't remember what grade you got they'll remember how you made them feel!
Your notes are AWESOME!!!!I I took Pharmacology last semester. Talk about brain overload! I'm taking Pathophysiology and Adult Health I this semester. Patho (AND just about every nursing class) is kinda sorta an extension of Pharmacology for me because the info I learned in Pharm rolls over. I'm learning about new meds everyday. I have to recall most of the meds I learned about last semester. The best part about it is that I feel awesome when I recognize a med in clinical that my pt is taking. It's one of those "Heeeeey, I know what that is and what it does!" type of moments. So even though it was a beast to tackle, Pharm is one of the most important classes we have to take as nursing student. Meds can make or break any situation. Thanks for sharing your amazing organizational skills! You're the bestest! From one nursing student to another :o)
Jaclyn Alvarez In my school we only have pharmacology in one semester. If you fail 2 classes you're out of the program 😕 So basically you're only allowed to take a course over once.
Thank you! This has been one of the most helpful nursing study videos I've seen because you give concrete examples and advice (like start studying a week in advance in case something comes up) that make me say, "yeah, okay, I can do that." Really appreciate it!
+Jordan Reynolds +Jordan Reynolds there is a free app I downloaded when I went to take it & it gave example test questions! I know they have books you can read to prepare as well- I personally only did the app. In my opinion the TEAS is a lot easier compared to the ACT/SAT.. And I am a horrible test taker- stay calm & I'm sure you'll S great!!
Yes! the Pocket Prep app for Teas has great practice questions. I also watched a few videos on TH-cam for review by Mometrix. I took notes as I watched and that seemed to help! Good luck!
Thank you for showing that you use copy/unruled paper for your notes; that has helped me immensely! I am a bubbly/artsy/colorful notetaker. Colors help me remember. Also, I will take my current chapter notes out of my big binder and put it in a smaller binder or folder so I can take it with me wherever I go so I can take advantage of down time.
I'm so glad I found this account. I'm 16 and I want to be a nurse so thank you for giving me/us a look through out your account what it's like going to a nursing school.
This tutorial is sooo helpful! Thank you so much for the advice and study tips! Nursing school can be so overwhelming and sometimes discouraging but people like yourself truly help me to push through. Thanks!!!
Lol the way you studied and created your notes reminds me of what i did during my 3 hour anatomy classes.. and ended up doing the same thing for nursing and patho classes. This takes me back. Just like you, i hold onto those notes with my life. I didn't spend hours each day retyping powerpoints and drawing everything out in different colors. I love how similar we are as far as studying!
in high school i take biomedical classes and i had a test on insulin and glucose connections i knew the information and materials but i am so bad a taking tests i can so relate to this vid and the first time i took the test i got a 70 and i was SO disappointed in myself and luckly my teacher allowed me to retake it and i went in to retake the test and the next day i find out i got a 100!! i was so proud of myself and i knew i knew it and i believed in myself and i pulled through! A lot of the questions were situations and you had to figure out the problem and this boosted my motivation and i knew i had it in me so my advice to everyone is just because you got a bad grade doesn't mean you dotn know the information you might've just had a bad day YOU GOT THIS!
Great tips and advice. I am starting nursing school next week, and I wanted to know how I can absorb all of this information and study before the test!!! Thank you !!!
i absolutely love your tips. i suppose the hardest parts for notes is being able to simplify information. and i love the idea of studying in advance plus setting times and rewards in between for studying.
Kayla Adams, I'm so glad you noticed something that had nothing to do with the video. Great observational skills. Hope you keep your sarcasm intact as a nurse without offending your patients.
These videos are so helpful! I'm in pre-nursing right now, so basically the hardest class I have is anatomy. But bubbly, colorful notes is something I never thought of. This really helped :D thaank youuuu
I remember watching this video when you first posted it, and now I just found out I got accepted to the nursing program and now I’m back again, love your channel and this video is sooo helpful, thanks!! 😊
Extremely helpful. I’m half way through nursing school and now it’s getting harder with memorizing diseases and disorders and the medication classification and their function! Thanks !!
12:08 TRUTH! My instructor always said "C" nurses are the best nurses! Usually they don't memorize everything perfectly, but can apply it. Whereas the "A" nurses can be the opposite.
@@jessiewang2607 you can understand everything the professor is telling you and be a bad test taker. I myself am a hands on person I remember once I learn it in an applied setting but sometimes the way questions can be set up on tests make me second guess myself... a lot. I make many of those mistakes where you has the right answer the first time but you decided to reread the question and change your answer.
Currently studying for my pharmacology final next week. Came across your video (TH-cam study break - those are important!) and HATS OFF TO YOU for your organizational skills. Learning pharmacology is like pulling teeth if you do not understand the gist of drug categories before delving into individual drugs. It took me a lot of trial and error to finally figure out how to best prepare for this class. I wish this video was made before I took the class but I hope future nursing students watch this and take your advice to heart. One investment that I don't regret is buying a huge whiteboard to hang up at home and lots of different colored dry-erase markers. I made concept maps up the yazoo on that thing and would erase and re-write until it made sense to me. Keep up the good work! Well wishes from Seattle.
I am a first year PA student and EVERYTHING you said in this video correlates with what our learning enrichment advisor stated to me in a one-on-one meeting before beginning school. These methods work excellent for people that learn both visually and kinesthetically, such as myself...Whereas reading textbooks and just using ppts in another persons interpretation do not! Very well done with your video and with your note taking. You will make an awesome and excellent nurse someday soon!
I'm in my second year of nursing school and I totally learn the exact same way as you! I also write out my notes in colors, somehow it makes studying so much easier!
About halfway through last semester, I started doing basically the same thing with the concept maps and it was a complete game changer. It really worked for me! I can't go back to how I used to take notes and study pharm!!
hello Kathryn, would you consider making copies of your notes and putting them in PDF file and share it with us. Just a suggestions i love your notes and how you organized your notes. I have the same learning issues as you. When you have time or get done with nursing school would you be willing to share your notes on and make them electronically? thank you for you time to share with the world your experience in nursing and study guide. have a great day.
I absolutely LOVE this video! Even though I'm not a Nursing student (I'm Clinical Psychology) it was still very helpful. I really appreciate how you said not to let the test grades define us because I always focus so much on the grades I get that aren't A's, because I'm a perfectionist, and I let it get to me and bring me down but thanks for the reminder to still be proud of myself and keep going :D You're an amazing and inspiring student please keep making these videos! :)
This is the first video that I've ever seen from you and right away I noticed that you are so pretty and have such a kind soul☺️❤️ I'm in nursing school too and I hate pharmacology😂 good luck to all aspiring nurses out there... We can do it!
Hello Kathryn Ann, Two full pages of notes on how to study was what I educated myself on through the hearing and watching of your video. Exciting to learn from you. . Nursing school is so interesting to me. There are actions by faith that are working for enrollment into a LPN program for me. I want my grades to save lives. Thank you Kathryn Ann you are a teacher!
You and I do the re-writing notes thing the exact same way, down to the bubbles around the material on copy paper with fun colored pens! That's awesome. This video was really something I needed to see to get me motivated and back to studying, thanks Kathryn!!
Aha! Global Kinesthetic Learner! Thanks for that! I learn that way too! I have to see the big picture first, then I like to see how the small bits fit into it and not the other way around like they typically do in school.
Thank you miss Kathryn Ann!! My baby sister is studying oncology and she is feeling hard on her self but I showed her this and she is now demotivated. You ma'am are going to be an amazing nurse!
I know you made this video about a year ago... BUT I found your channel in the beginning of December and have been watching you ever since. It just so happens that I'll be applying to nursing school for this fall and I've just discovered and watched every single one of your nursing school related videos. This is so crazy but I learn and take and organize my notes in almost the EXACT same way as you! So all these videos really helped me! Very inspirational and it really made me excited for nursing school. Thank you so much for being so awesome!
Thank you!! I had watched this video a month ago and changed what I was doing to study for nursing school. I'm the same kind of learner, definitely hands on as well. I just came upon this video now - and didn't even realize you were the reason why I rearranged *how* I take notes utilizing the objectives given for each module! You rock!!
I learn the exact same way! I do the same thing as far as writing out notes go and don’t benefit from reading at all. But, I loooove your binders and will start being more organized with everything!!
Whenever I take a pain relief medication, I always study the directions on both the box and on the bottle itself. I just wanted everybody to know that.
I always come back to this video when I doubt my ability to focus and study for college exams and do homework. It honestly helps me so much because Ive been using your method of note taking with paper and colorful pens since I first watched this and it has changed who I am as a student. I went from a 2.5 GPA to a 3.67 in one semester. thank you for uploading this and for contributing to my new found success. ❤❤❤❤❤your absolutely amazing and I love your videos so so much!!!!
Just happened to come across your channel and I subscribed! I don't comment- I'm more a silent watcher 😀, but I had to. Basically went on a binge -specially love your nursing videos. They are so helpful. I will be starting nursing school this fall and I'm super nervous. I've been researching like crazy. Btw I do study the exact same way 😁
Thanks girl!! And I think I am going to give it a shot. Just received my nursing books today and plan to vlog about it this weekend. You should check it out! lol, just try not to be too harsh on me, lol im a beginner when it comes to vlogging but am totally into it.
+Beautifully Rewritten would love to see your videos and your experience as well! I will subscribe! haha..don't worry I don't vlog and I think it's really brave of you to start! sending love your way! :)
You are genius!! I love the way you take your notes!! (ie colors, diagram maps, etc) I learn the exact same way & am getting ready to start the nursing program in the fall. I will definitely incorporate your techniques into my study habits!
thanks so much for you motivational speech around 12:06!!!! Im in my first quarter of nursing school and the critical thinking application is so hard for me :( but I'm getting above a 76% on test so I'm glad about that.
It really depends on the class. For adult health its like they give you 3 s/s of the dz and you need to know what it is but the question is essentially asking you how to treat it or what to educate the pt. on. & not all info is in your notes. You need to thinking about what the dz is doing and if a s/s is nausea or diarrhea you need to think about what complications can arise from N/V----> hypokalemia & you need to know the s/s of hypokalemia cause that could be one of the multiple choices on the test and the answer. sorry if it doesn't make alot of sense, just know that nursing exams are hard!!
You have NO idea how helpful this video was. I came across it looking for tips on how to study because what I’m doing isn’t working. I’m on the brink of failing med surge and pharm 2, and I’d fail both I’m kicked out from the program for good. I realize I’m also a global kinesthetic learner and I never knew that. How can I learn more about the different styles? Also, what was most helpful was your pep talk at the end. I literally sobbed, it’s exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
I'm in my pre-nursing program at college and applying to the BSN this December, your videos have been AMAZING! THANK YOU! I'm also a global kinesthetic learner, this was so helpful.
I just began nursing school this semester and have been struggling a little with finding out my learning style and how to study. I think I have a similar learning style to you. I have applied some of your tips and I think they have helped me tremendously. Thank you very much!
I never have confidence in myself. I’m sure it’s not as easy as it sounds. But listening to the way how you study helps me to believe that I can do it too. Thank you for the tips you give me.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH THIS HELPED ME EVEN WITH ME BEING IN HIGH SCHOOL RIGHT NOW THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR YOU ENCOURAGING WORDS THEY MEAN SOO MUCH TO ME and please just KEEP making more and more videos like this!
I saw this video about 2 months ago and let me tell you, it helped me get really organized. I bought colored pens and took my notes pretty similar to yours and it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY!!! Thank you for sharing this video!!!
This video changed my day!!! Thank you so much Kathryn.. I got an 80 on an exam but you telling me that a grade doesn't determine anything made me 100% more positive... thank you for your advice.. you are amazing!!
Omg I love this!!! I'm currently struggling with A&P because before this class I never really studied and did great but now it's starting to not work for me. So I've been trying to find ways to study in a way that I can remember everything. I learn just like you so I'm grateful you did this video. I especially loved the last part of this video because lately I've been wondering if i'm even smart enough to become a nurse, but I will not give up!!
This is brilliant! I'm an enrolled nurse in Australia and have just started my bachelors of nursing at uni so we start in 2nd year so it's a hit the ground running type situation. Your video has definitely given me ideas for my own notes and how to study :)
I think you are a great teacher, made perfect sense to me, I am so scared to start nursing school for different and thought about not following my dream of becoming a RN for different reasons but watching this video made me rethink...thank you for making this video!
I'm going into Elementary Education when I go to college (I am a Junior right now, in high school) and your little "rant" or "speech" at the end helped me realize that grades do NOT define me. Thank you.❤
I always wanted to be a nurse because I love scrubs. Weird, I know lol. Maybe as a psychologist I'll be able to wear scrubs...but I doubt it 😭 anyways, I love your scrub top!! 😍😍
That's exactly how I study for nursing school too! It makes studying and looking at things so much easier! Also when memorizing things I would continue to write down what I know then I would compare with what I had on my notes and what I miss I go back and remind myself about it. I'm just struggling with RN-NCLEX questions!!
Hey Kathryn, I was just wondering if you attended Texas A&M college station, because that is the school that I will be going to next year after my first year of community college and I just wanted some feedback about the school. thank you.
I think I've watched this video 5 times since it was first published! You're videos are super inspiring and every time I'm feeling down about nursing school your videos really help give me motivation! Love love love all your videos!
I've been randomly watching a bunch of med school videos and I stumbled across this one (yay, finally a nursing school video) and you're so cute omg. I'm in nursing school in Texas too!! I go to TCU and I don't start actual nursing classes and clinicals until spring 2017 but I'm so excited, and I am literally saving this video because I've never been able to explain that I need to understand the big picture first..GLOBAL. thank you sm
Same thing basically. Material is not hard for either nursing school or Med school, both are like trying to drinking water from a firehose in terms of information absorption.
I watched this video before starting nursing school and it honestly helped me so much! I got pens in many different colors and grouped things together in my notes by color and I got an A on every Patho exam! Can't wait to try it for Pharm next semester! Thanks so much!!
omg u are making me worry! i cramped my way thru my b.s degree in microbiology and minor in chem. I once memorized all 750 powerpoint slides in one day! this will not work in nursing shcool
Kathryn, your video was so helpful and encouraging. I've recently been doing pretty well in nursing school, but yesterday I feel like I just failed my patho midterm and that made me feel so depressed. I especially loved the part about how you said just because you got a low mark does not define who you are. I totally agree! I feel like it's about improving yourself each time and having the mindset to continually want to learn. Thank you so much girl! You're going to be amazing nurse! Also, if you don't mind me asking, I'm really curious as to what kind of nurse you want to become in the future!
application questions are extremely hard for me as well. and I am struggling in 2 of my courses because of this issue. I'm having a very hard time finding practice questions to study with. do you recommend key words to search I Google or websites you find practice questions on? Please resond I would really appreciate it
Alanna Gonzalez there's an app called RN Mentor. it's made by ati. they have free practice questions that are very helpful. it gives rationales and let's you go back and review the previous tests u take.
I know this is way late, but maybe this will help someone else. I had LOTS of NCLEX study books and used those questions to study. Find the NCLEX books that have questions by topics. Saunders was my fave!
My mom who is an Rn literally said to me yesterday that it’s ok if you make a c your goal is to pass the class it doesn’t mean your a bad nurse so thank you!!!
I've really had trouble decided whether or not to go in to nursing school because I am afraid of failure and I am usually not a good test taker. Being a dancer for 13 years, I am a Kinesthetic learner through and through. You're video really helped me to see that it's possible with hard work and organization! Yay!!
Omg yaaaasss preach it girl! "A grade does not define you.... A 'C' nurse and an 'A' nurse are both still going to be be registered nurses. They're both going to be hired into jobs. So if you pass all of your classes in nursing school c and above you still get to become a registered nurse?
no you need to get 70% on the NCLEX test... you can still graduate your BSN or ASN but weather you become an RN is weather you pass the test or not
For my program, a passing grade is considered an 80% so a B! Still, if you got all B's, you could still graduate with your BSN. The NCLEX is a whole other story!
Caitlin Weaver the NCLEX is easy!!!!!!!!!

Basically my life😂

I remember watching this video when you first posted it, and now I just found out I got accepted to the nursing program and now I’m back again, love your channel and this video is sooo helpful, thanks!! 😊
Extremely helpful. I’m half way through nursing school and now it’s getting harder with memorizing diseases and disorders and the medication classification and their function! Thanks !!
my first day of nursing school is august 22 and i have zero study habits so this is wonderful! thank you so much
Same :) hahaha
mine is in September! are you as exited as I am? lol
Danielle Schott how'd it go ?
How did you study for the entrance exam?
How are you guys doing now?
12:08 TRUTH! My instructor always said "C" nurses are the best nurses! Usually they don't memorize everything perfectly, but can apply it. Whereas the "A" nurses can be the opposite.
All the memorizations should be based on understanding all the theories ..
We can do it!
thank you ! lol
Your notes look so satisfying... it makes me want to study hahah!
Trish Schmidt
I learn this way too, I've just never met anyone else who did.
Thank you miss Kathryn Ann!! My baby sister is studying oncology and she is feeling hard on her self but I showed her this and she is now demotivated. You ma'am are going to be an amazing nurse!
I'm not even going for nursing lol, but here I am watching your videos. I am going for dental hygienist, but this is still so helpful!
😂 same
I'm going for radiography!
Girl, with those studying skillis. if you nail and 80% average or more, you're ready to do a MA in nursing. Don't stop at a BA/BSc.
Thank you!! I had watched this video a month ago and changed what I was doing to study for nursing school. I'm the same kind of learner, definitely hands on as well. I just came upon this video now - and didn't even realize you were the reason why I rearranged *how* I take notes utilizing the objectives given for each module! You rock!!
It has been 4 years since her last video i miss her
Me too. I still follow her on IG tho
I'm in high school but just decided that nursing is what I wanna go into for sure :)
I hand write all my notes out before the lecture, then Add in anything the professor says or writes on the board! It helps me so much!
I literally wish I had this video in high school. This helped so much. 100% (;
she's probably an amazing nurse right now. she completely put me at ease
I would pay for a copy of that binder omg
Can you do an organization video? How do you organize time to workout, go grocery shopping, cook, or clean? That advice would be very helpful :)
Btw I do study the exact same way 😁
Good luck in Nursing school Farah! I will be starting the same time as you and am going to try and vlog about it...if that is possible..lol
+Beautifully Rewritten thank you so much! and good luck to you too! haha you should totally do a vlog if you can- I would watch! 😊
Aww thank you Farah!! I really appreciate it! Hope you will enjoy it girl!!
Do you think that you could give an example of a critical thinking question?
It really depends on the class. For adult health its like they give you 3 s/s of the dz and you need to know what it is but the question is essentially asking you how to treat it or what to educate the pt. on. & not all info is in your notes. You need to thinking about what the dz is doing and if a s/s is nausea or diarrhea you need to think about what complications can arise from N/V----> hypokalemia & you need to know the s/s of hypokalemia cause that could be one of the multiple choices on the test and the answer. sorry if it doesn't make alot of sense, just know that nursing exams are hard!!
Iridian Perez YIKES ok thanks!
This is hands down the most helpful video I've found. Probably because we are similar learners.
I'm in my pre-nursing program at college and applying to the BSN this December, your videos have been AMAZING! THANK YOU! I'm also a global kinesthetic learner, this was so helpful.
i would pay some seeerrious money for those binders omg 😩
I just began nursing school this semester and have been struggling a little with finding out my learning style and how to study. I think I have a similar learning style to you. I have applied some of your tips and I think they have helped me tremendously. Thank you very much!
Are you able to share ALL your notes? Like from day one of nursing school & beyond?
Same question lol. Or sell replica binders because I will buy them lol
I never have confidence in myself. I’m sure it’s not as easy as it sounds. But listening to the way how you study helps me to believe that I can do it too. Thank you for the tips you give me.
love the video and you're really pretty, honestly you're my inspiration!!!!
I didn't even realize exactly how I learned until you said it! Wow, I feel like I can grab school by the balls and really take over, now! Thank you!!!
I saw this video about 2 months ago and let me tell you, it helped me get really organized. I bought colored pens and took my notes pretty similar to yours and it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY!!! Thank you for sharing this video!!!
I'd love a copy of your notes
This video changed my day!!! Thank you so much Kathryn.. I got an 80 on an exam but you telling me that a grade doesn't determine anything made me 100% more positive... thank you for your advice.. you are amazing!!
This video is making me excited to start my nursing career next school year! And you look like Carrie underwood!
same here!!
What is A&P classes and how are you did you do in that class?
This is GOLD thank you for doing this
This is brilliant! I'm an enrolled nurse in Australia and have just started my bachelors of nursing at uni so we start in 2nd year so it's a hit the ground running type situation. Your video has definitely given me ideas for my own notes and how to study :)
Omfg I'd love to have your notes!!
I think you are a great teacher, made perfect sense to me, I am so scared to start nursing school for different and thought about not following my dream of becoming a RN for different reasons but watching this video made me rethink...thank you for making this video!
I'm starting my first semester of college tomorrow, and I want to get a nursing degree, so thanks for making this video! It was really helpful!
Are there any updates to know about your app and when it'll launch?
That's exactly how I study for nursing school too! It makes studying and looking at things so much easier! Also when memorizing things I would continue to write down what I know then I would compare with what I had on my notes and what I miss I go back and remind myself about it. I'm just struggling with RN-NCLEX questions!!
Hey Kathryn, I was just wondering if you attended Texas A&M college station, because that is the school that I will be going to next year after my first year of community college and I just wanted some feedback about the school. thank you.
I go there it's a great school!
I think I've watched this video 5 times since it was first published! You're videos are super inspiring and every time I'm feeling down about nursing school your videos really help give me motivation! Love love love all your videos!
I'm doing my prerequisites for nursing right now, do you have any tips for stressing out about NOT getting into nursing school?
Meditate. It sounds funny but it's seriously helpful. Learning to slow down your breathing can do a lot to stave off panic.
alyssa chase you will. Nursing shortage is REAL!
Nursing school is killing me, I'm not even playing
Emmanuel Akinbode try med school
Taryn theres no competition. Stop the nonsense
Same thing basically. Material is not hard for either nursing school or Med school, both are like trying to drinking water from a firehose in terms of information absorption.
I know this is an old comment, but this is the best fucking analogy for nursing/med school.
OMG now I'm nervous 😬😬😬😬
I watched this video before starting nursing school and it honestly helped me so much! I got pens in many different colors and grouped things together in my notes by color and I got an A on every Patho exam! Can't wait to try it for Pharm next semester! Thanks so much!!
omg u are making me worry! i cramped my way thru my b.s degree in microbiology and minor in chem. I once memorized all 750 powerpoint slides in one day! this will not work in nursing shcool
oh definitely not. Nursing school is all about application anyways.
Holy crap I don't know what I'd do without your videos. THANK YOU again for being a source of encouragement for so many struggling students !
What do you do while your teacher is lecturing? Do you just sit there and listen or do you make notes on your laptop or something?
I would like to know as well.
Lacey Fownes maybe she records the class
What types of pens do you use?!
Fine point sharpies
I've really had trouble decided whether or not to go in to nursing school because I am afraid of failure and I am usually not a good test taker. Being a dancer for 13 years, I am a Kinesthetic learner through and through. You're video really helped me to see that it's possible with hard work and organization! Yay!!
