    The Dual motor is more stable braking in slippery winter conditions with the front motor's regen, many say that RWD feels a little more unstable with only Rear Motor regen. The other issue is dual motor offers better winter charging performance as both motors are used for heating when required like battery preconditioning.

    I priorize battery technology and efficiency over having an AWD. I love my Model Y RWD LFP with BYD battery. I will only be switching to AWD if they release a LFP based Model Y successor in the future. Newer LFP battery generations will have denser energy capacity which will make that possible.

    Interesting result. Thanks for all the testing you do Bjørn. 😀 Also interesting that the price difference RWD to AWD is only about $1000. Not worth it to give up premium audio and AWD. In the US the price diffference is $3000 for the Y and $5000 for the 3.

    All Wheel Drive describes any drive train that can power both the front axle and rear axle, whether or not it can power either independently. Most vehicles have a computer system to optimize which axles (or wheels) to send power to in a given situation. Four Wheel Drive (4WD) is traditionally a drive mode in vehicles that are actually capable of serious off-roading, which the driver manually engages. It lock the front and rear axles together, so that they receive equal power and rotate at the same speed.
    So AWD = computer controlled system, can help you maintain traction in wet weather
    4WD = drive mode the driver manually engages when going through extreme weather or terrain - There is a physical (or digital nowadays) selector

    A german channel already did a live consumption comparison test of AWD vs RWD, the result was 0 difference in consumption. The test was mostly Autobahn, where you would want more range, but it seems the better efficiency is only noticeable in city driving unfortunately.

    • @КалинКръстев-э2д
      @КалинКръстев-э2д หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It makes sense. The awd (lr) model y uses mostly the rear motor. That can be checked in sexy app. Front motor comes into action only under rapid acceleration or if slippery or when doing battery preconditioning. In highway cruise without aggressive acceleration it is rear motor only. However I’m not able to reach the consumption of the rwd with my awd lr. Or may it is due to my loathing of chill mode 😅

    •  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Recently my wife and I went on a long trip and took turns driving. As I have an S3XY knob in my car, I switched on their app and noticed on the dashboard that the front engine uses almost no power during normal motorway driving. For this kind of driving, the difference between FWD and AWD won't be significant. I'm sure it will be more noticeable in bad weather conditions or when driving more sharply, when the AWD model's front engine is used more.

    My theory is that there is variance in Tesla's components quality like battery (internal resistance?), motors, inverters you name it.
    That is why the results differ even when performed under similar conditions. Would be great to test 2 or more identical cars and compare consumption.
    Also asphalt quality, temeperature and tyres play a big role, but I think Björn uses the same route.

    4WD vs. AWD: Back in the ICE age, 4WD did not have a center differential. Therefore it could only be used on dirt and gravel roads that allow tire slip between front and rear axles.
    AWD has a center differential, allowing it to be active at all times on all roads. However, with out the center lock, if only one wheel loses traction no torque goes to the other three wheels, so not so good for challenging roads, often marked with "4WD Only" signs.

    • @tonydanielc7739
      @tonydanielc7739 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      You can’t. Tesla advises to charge to 100% every now and then to recalibrate, but not regularly. It does the same harm as for the NMC. There’s a video “How to ruin your electric car’s battery - LFP edition” scientifically explaining that.

    • @Tob-h7f
      @Tob-h7f หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Sorry to say, new data have shown that LFP does also degrade as NMC with high state of charge. So for daily charging 100% is not recommended. But on the other hand LFP needs to be charged to 100% at least every 1-4 weeks to calibrate the BMS.
