- A rare working steam route, built for tourism but off season, it still serves the midpoint Planalp's remote village commute. From lakeside to forest, to alpine pasture, ending 100m shy of the summit, a string of either oil or coal fired steam hauled single carriage sets, photogenically climb Abt rack in sequence.
This original 8mm cine film, shot summer 1968, captures the route, locos and rolling stock of the era. As ever, Paul Russenberger kindly recorded my scripted narration in 1999.

Thank you for posting this one. My memory from 1963 or 1964 is that my father and I took the train up, and then walked back down. It would have been wonderful if we hadn't been caught by thick cloud descending, and nearly losing our way several times!
It's a superb little railway though, and highly recommended.
In 2017 A train of BRB visited the Snowdon Railway
