    With all the features set aside I feel the NTG sounds better compared to the ProPlus. It's cleaner, not as bass heavy making it better for EQ in post. Which sounds better to you?

    • @sakshinash
      @sakshinash ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree.... but when it comes to a woman's voice that's higher pitched and doesn't have a lot of low tones anyway.. should I ho for the NTG and punch out the already high tones or go with my existing Pro+ and try to add some depth in your expert opinion, please?

    • @RickyCheung
      @RickyCheung  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m not audiophile or expert in audio sound design but I would assume the NTG would still be a better starting point because of the more balance sound and EQ in post. Maybe someone with more skill set here couldn’t chime in.

    I really like the slide feature on the NTG: very helpful when using the camera viewfinder. It's unfortunate that the built in battery cannot be replaced. Once the charging cycles have been used up, the mic is a throw away.

    • @RickyCheung
      @RickyCheung  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      the slider is HUGE especially for hybrid shooters like myself as well. Moving from handheld video and viewfinder for photos.video with the bump on the ProPlus was really annoying. The battery thing, yes 100% I do hear Rode has been great are replacing battery issue with units but that's just internet talk, no experience on my end but in general Rode has great CS.

      @@RickyCheungthese are great products. Been familiar with them since the early 2000s. Had a pair of NT5s which were stolen 😢. I currently have the basic RØde small camera mic and have been wanting to upgrade for a while. I’m sure the audio in the future will be a major upgrade once I get a new one.

    2:13 - If I heard it right, you said "75 & 150 high-frequency boost adjustments" which is actually incorrect. These are 75 Hz or 150 Hz low-cut (high-pass) filters built into the microphone. This means the mic cuts off all frequencies below 75 Hz or 150 Hz (if selected), eliminating unwanted low-end noise (rumble) if needed. It’s not a high-frequency boost, but an optional filter to clean up the low end.

    Pro + user here. I really really like the NTG sound here. I use the Pro+ as a staged mic to pick up band music, use it for environmental sounds at the beach all with a wireless receiver. I never really liked the Pro + on my voice but maybe im biased because as I don't like my voice, haha but I think the NTG will fair better for voice applications. Thanks for the review!

  • @madmechanic7641
    @madmechanic7641 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yeah I think the NTG for myself anyhow.. Seems more directional, the only minus being battery (Built in and life). Great vid matey. Both great mikes but it's as important NOT to hear certain sounds as it is to hear them clearly.. I think the NTG has that all important discrimination.. : )

    Fun fact, The NTG does not work properly with the Lumix S5ii. It requires being on "Mic+ Power" setting in camera. After a week of conversations with Rode, they were kind enough to send me a ProPlus for testing purposes. Rode could not effectively put in any kind of ticket to do testing so they send me the ProPlus as a solution. ProPlus works awesome with no flaws on the Lumix S5ii. It was a very frustrating experience to figure out, but has to put in the work to effectively communicate to Rode with data that there is an issue.
    Side not: I do love the NTG, works amazing on my GH4/5. For whatever reason is not a clean experience with the S5ii

    NTG I could tell immediately. What mic are you using to record the video? I'm trying to figure out a mic to buy to record my videos when I start making content. Some of the videos will be outside too, so I'm looking for a mic that will sound good outside

    • @RickyCheung

      NTG is very neutral sounding which makes it great for all around. I use the MKE600 for TH-cam and more commercial work with XLR recorder but for most the VideoMic NTG. Put a windshield on and you’ll be good for outdoors.

    • @RickyCheung

      MKE600 is a pro level mic using XLR vs 3.5mm. Different applications I would say not saying you can’t get pro level with 3.5mm because you totally can, length of run, etc.

    In your opinion, this microphone is suitable for shooting videos of street musicians?

    • @RickyCheung
      @RickyCheung  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would probably go with a stereo mic for better surrounding audio capture for the musicians. A shotgun mic is more directional but for street you’ll get a lot of ambient sound as well for either but probably a lot more from a stereo mic. Shotgun mics are better for dialogue capture.
