Love the transparency and quality of the tests you do in your videos. ***Chef's kiss*** I can't fathom how fast your workflow is making these videos. I'm currently working on a lens comparison and it's taking me ages to finish it.
Also, NTG 3 for sure. But I'd settle with the comica if I ever have a chance of getting it😂

Alex, great and very informative video! However, you referenced the Rode VideoMic Pro, but showed the VideoMic NTG ( essentially a 3.5mm cable version of the XLR professional version the NTG5) - the VideoMic Pro, Pro Plus, and NTG are all different versions of the Rode VideoMic series, all sounding different, with the Pro and Pro Plus having more body and being older, and the VideoMic NTG having more "air" frequencies (I have one, but I actually like the sound of the "Pro Plus" better than the newer, "better" "VideoMic NTG").
The more expensive mics probably have a more directional or "hyperbolic" audio wave pickup pattern - basically its shaped less like a circle, and more line an oval, blocking out more audio waves coming from the side and picking up audio from the front (and some from the back).

I got the MK 416 used on eBay for 550. I wish I would’ve purchased it years ago. I only use LAV for back up.

I have the NTG-3 and Comica D30.
I think the NTG-3 got a lot of deep rumble. How are you removing that? I have used mine for many years, but also some times has issues with too much low rumble.

It makes sense to me that the cheaper ones did better on the location test because these mics, by design are meant to be directional. So, they SHOULD reject sound that isn't exactly where it should be..

I must have missed you mentioning that, but was the Comica used wirelessly or directly with the cable, like the others? It does sound different when you use it without the cables as opposed to connecting it directly.

I own it. The delay is on wireless. I have better mics, but I love using it on my gimbal in wireless mode.

I have an NTG4+ and it is teeeeeerrrrrible in high reverb situations. You really have to go all out to treat the room before shooting or just use a different mic..

The reason you're thinking the cheaper mics are better at the moving test is most likely due to them having worse off axis rejection. So yes they might be better if someone moves but the other mics are designed to reject as much sound when not aimed directly at the subject.
