  • The new Lenovo X1 Extreme is a 15.6" business laptop with a 4K HDR Dolby Vision display and a ton of ports. Plus, it's built like a tank. Here's my review and thoughts about this "classic" looking laptop with modern hardware. See at Lenovo: thrifter.com/sz3l

Pyre gold. Finally they got the hint. I would get this over any 1060 laptop, or any laptop regardless. If you are that much of a hard core gamer I cant imagine you would be on a laptop. I hope thinkpad keeps this up.
Legit all this is missing is a classic keyboard, I hope they make them again like on the thinkpad 25.

Daniel, I just have to say what a great overall review you gave for the X1 Extreme. I am currently typing on my with the standard non touch screen and 16gb ram. I've had it for a few weeks now after waiting for a couple weeks to be built from Lenovo since they had a great black Friday deal. Honestly, I'm just extremely happy with this purchase. I was sooooo close to going mac because of specific things but knew I would be so unhappy long term. This laptop is everything I was really looking for in a laptop. You spoke about gaming and let me say this does preform very very well for games and I'm not looking for graphics per-say just to have some fun. I will agree though about the battery but really that is the only thing in my opinion that isn't the best. Overall though, I love the build quality, the keyboard is perfect in every way and the track-pad. Yes people are complaining about the fans in this thing that it does a whiny nose kind of thing but it doesn't bother me...

I wish they’d responded to people’s questions. I just put in an order for the gen 3 and didn’t know whether or not to get FHD or UHD. I opted for FHD only because I still hear complaints of UHD not interfacing seamlessly without scaling problems in numbers of programs. Also frames rate is better on 1080p. It seems we’re still out a couple of years from 4K interfacing well with all programs. I’m surprised none of these reviews show how FHD and UHD interfaces with most used software. Your thoughts?

I just ordered one: i9 CPU, 32GB/1TB, 4k touch screen. I'm ambivalent about the touch screen but the Lenovo rep suggested I try it since I'll be using this for photo editing. It's replacing the mid-2014 MacBook Pro I bought late last year, that de-soldered its GPU last month. Like you, I wish the display was 3:2 or even Apple's 16:10. I looked at Surface Books a while back, liked the 3:2 but disliked the highly reflective screen. I print my photos and the Surface Book's color gamut and accuracy weren't up to snuff (especially at the price) in my opinion. Unfortunately, the ThinkPad won't arrive until July.

Unfortunately nobody is testing the operation with a thunderbolt dock and an external display when internal display is closed (because it is below the desk on an office container), if there is a heat / noise / durability problem because of the covert back outgoing ventilation slot. I own X1C with HDR display. Running Manjaro on it. I also own MBP 15 2017. Only reason I purchase MBP is because of Mac OS. For me personally, it's the best OS by far.
But as design goes, I like thinkpad designs way more then macbooks. I know, most people think MBP are the best designed out there. Sure, they are great, but I simply love black more then 'space grey' or silver, and aluminium is not that great on a laptop. Scratches really easily, and I kinda love the feel on the thinkpads.
Keyboard is also way better. As are ports.
Only thing hardware wise that I like on MBP more are trackpads and the 16:10 retina screen, even though HDR on my X1C is also brilliant! But 16:9 is not good for productivity. At all.
So if I could natively run Mac OS on a thinkpad, I would never even consider purchasing a MBP.

As a Mac user I actually agree. I'll still have my desktop Mac for all Apple integration and MacOS specific work, but for laptop use I can't stand Apple's current lineup and prices.
I'm so happy a GTX ThinkPad finally exists! I can't wait to get my hands on one! As much as I dislike Windows, I don't think I'll be that bothered when on a laptop, as I do most of my work on the desktop mac.

@@mileni7 I'm in a pickle I want to buy either a Thinkpad or Macbook for University. Would like to do basic stuff, but also photo, and color edit. Adobe CC. My main concern is reliability, I heard apple products are anti-consumer in that sense they solder Ram, and Hard drive. There getting a lot of heat as CBC News has gone undercover, and discovered that Apple employees push to avoid repair, and pressure you to buy a new computer. I heard Mac OS is beautiful having less bugs, no need for an anti-virus, and Programs like final cut. If theoretically I could get either device for the same price, almost the same specs which one would you recommend me getting?? Thinkpad Pros (4k screen Color accurate) (Unsoldered Ram, and SSD Upgrade them anytime) or Macbook Pro Pros (Cleaner Mac OS, No Anti-Virus and good programs like FInal Cut) Thanks and Cheers!

My XPS 15 battery last's for only 4 hours using Photoshop. Also, when typing, it will drop keys, meaning, it will not type a letter on occasion, no matter how hard you hit keys, it always drops a letter so I always have to be aware of it. To me, mine is less than a year old but it's not a big enough deal to me to have it fixed. My Lenovo X1 is on the way. It will be strictly for web designs. Hope it's worth it.

Unfortunately it’s not mature yet, I bought 3 P1/ X1 extreme - all of them had a nasty electric crackling noise when you engage in using multiple apps - a bit like coil whining. Never had that before. So I hope Lenovo will fix the power issue since otherwise it’s a dream machine.
