I'll try to feature one in a video soon!
@@TheTopher I love the speedmaster but that new white dial one is very nice! On a side note, I walked by a swatch store today and the line for the Snoopy Moonswatch was crazy lol.
Got a speedmaster as a 40th birthday present to myself a few years ago. Really neat watch with a neat history.
@@ETcelerate Unsurprisingly manchilds are everywhere nowadays
I didn’t like the color options offered so I went with a 2005 Toyota Camry instead
They're neck and neck, good choice!
Still holding-out for Envy Green.
😆😆
Daily the Camry and drive the Porsche on the weekends 😂
solid choice
Former 981 and 718 GTS owner, pinnacle raw Porsche experience without the GT4 harshness or 911 larger size. Unique driving experience, never regretted owning a Porsche!
I still think the base 992.1 911 is much better car overall. The 718 GTS4.0 does handle better, has more grip, and quicker in transferring it's motion from side to side, but that is about it ad those advantages really only come to play near the limit. The base 992.1 911 is much more refined, nicer inside, larger inside, has better power delivery. As a daily driver or cross country cruiser it is so much better. I feel the 718 GTS4.0 is quite under powered, especially for the chassis it has. Power is rather anemic below 5,000rpm, and you really only get it really going around 7000rpm. I do prefer the lightly turboed 3.0 flat 6 on the base 992 911 over the NA 4.0L flat 6, the power is just so much more useful and really I really like the sound of the base 992 engine (but maybe not quite as much as the 718 GTS 4.0 but it is not wildly different like most claim). Yes it is a go cart compared to the 911, but the 911 still handles incredibly well. The 718 GTS4.0 is on another level and is the best handling car I have ever driven. At the end of the day though I would much rather have a base 992 911 than the 718 GTS4.0.
I want to get a base 981, how was it owning it? Did it have enough power?
@@nickmcinley6712 Honestly I wouldn’t call it a fast car. It’s alert, handles like a dream and feels fast enough but it’s not like a rocket ship of any sort. The power of the 6 builds up the power band. I really enjoyed my 981, if you can get one with low mileage I’d do it in a heartbeat. Get the S if you can find a little more cash, way better with the Sports Chrono.
@@LateNightDateNight just got a guards red 981 base last september, has been an absolute dream to drive every.single.day. I have to agree though what everyone says about the s seems worth it after my initial honeymoon phase. 275 is JUST enough to drive it like your typical porsche owner does through traffic but will make you clench occasionally trying to pass an aggressive truck lol
@@JackdSpongeebob Haha congrats man!
I picked up my manual GTS 4.0 a few months ago, and I have to say, the PDK is a fantastic gearbox, it’s unbeatable, but I’d take my manual car any day of the week, I’m not usually a “every car needs a manual” kind of person, but the cayman just feels right with it.
I'm definitely an "Every sports car needs a manual" person lol. And that is one of them. Congrats on your purchase.
Manual is at it's best in a naturally aspirated 4.0 with a narrow peak power band like the GTS 4.0. You're always shifting to keep the revs where they want to be and the car feels like it really needs you, especially on track. With modern turbo engines that make power from so low down in the rev range, it just isn't the same. Take the current 911 Carrera, peak torque from 2000rpm, every gear feels the same, it's like the car is patronising you, "yeah, sure, you can shift if you like, I'll just be doing my thing." You feel almost in the way of the engine, rather than engaged by it. The PDK suits that car so much better - the exact opposite of the Boxster/Cayman. It's easy to say every sports car needs a manual, but not all manuals are created equal.
@@MacellaioNero well said
manual with short gear ratio is better than pdk... porsche manuals have super long gears why it's so slow
@@LukAS-yp1bj imo, the tall gears aren’t as big of a deal as most people make it out to be, at least not in the GTS, it definitely would be more enjoyable with shorter gearing, but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker, or at least hasn’t been for me
There's just something about driving around in the rain that hits different. It's so peaceful, especially on empty roads.
One of the best engines ever made
Congrats on 700k.
The $112K price tag actually seems like a bargain nowadays when you consider a Capstone Toyota Tundra tops out around $90K.
Tundras sell at invoice
That is a different class but I get your point. The grand wagoneer is somewhere around 100k+ for a fiat quality car.
I’m guessing depreciation will also be far lower than on a Tundra or some expensive SUV.
@@tobi_dg i mean its a porshe so its going to keep its value

Porsche is always cooking with speed and designs and overall performance, I hope they never change ❤️
Great video, especially with the extra challenge of rain. After owning over 20 BMWs, I’m *so* glad I could get an allocation for a GTS 4.0. This is the last new car I’ll likely be able to buy with a manual, and the clutch and shifter feel make every drive an event. When everything has gone EV in the next few years, including the Cayman/Boxster and the other side of my garage, I’ll still be able to enjoy a naturally aspirated 3-pedal experience. This one’s a keeper.
If you want a sports coupe this has pretty much everything you could want

Beautiful car. I agree with you regarding the classiness of the 718 GTS. Especially in that silver color. Thanks for sharing the experience and take care.
Agree but if i wish one in Miami blue without paying the special wish price
What an awesome spec. Relative of mine has a 24’ Cayman S - great car
I love that they aren’t overdoing screens. It will age significantly better
Well, I think I know which car I am driving at PEC now. I had already been looking at this one, but you have sealed the deal. The sound and the overall size and shape of this car seem like they'd be fun to experience on track.
Fantastic car, and review! I had to choose between this (manual) and M3 Touring - ended up with the M3 but the GTS is just so pure
Nice car and a gorgeous watch!
I have the 4 cyl GTS and it’s amazing. What a rocket ship. I love the punch of the turbos over the NA engines personally. The 6cyl does sound better, but the 4cyl isn’t bad at all. Everything is relative. Neither sound as good as my GT350… but the car is basically a gokart on the road. Tons of fun !
friend recently bought a used 987.1 S and its been an absolute blast to ride with him in it lol, glad to see the 718 still proves to be a load of fun!
also i bet you realizing tedward was gonna be at PEC must've been like realizing youre in the same class as your friend on the first day of school lmao
Glad you got to enjoy some of Alabama's roads. Shame it was in the wet though. Hope you liked them!
Maaaaan, just picked up my Boxster with this motor/trans combo two weeks ago after a year-long wait. It’s a damn delight, I totally love it and it’s actually only foretaste since I’m breaking it in and trying not to go above 4k rpm, so the best is still ahead of me.
I just went through the break-in “agony” with my Cayman. That deep induction howl starts at 3800, then it’s time to shift!
I can say from experience, the wait is worth it.
@@danieltackett4089 no doubts on that one. Since it has this linear power delivery I’m just assuming that I experienced only the half of its performance since I’ve used only the half of the rev range :D
This with this color, the 20" sport wheels in satin black, and a manual is my dream car. Lol I'm constantly watching the last video you did on this with the one in red and the manual to live vacariously 😂
Such a great sound
this pdk gearbox is something. i believe best gearbox in the world...
Sounds great!
Wonderful! Love the flowing lines that meet to make that aggressive sporty front end - no more 'lizard lip' bumpers and those terrible 'frog eyes' headlamp humps! Finally, Porsches don't look like a high school kid drew and designed them on a white board!
this is crazy i was literally just thinking about this car yesterday
I've always found the N/A 4 liter motor just the right engine for ANY Porsche model!
oh i like the silver trim, lines up with the silver on the wheel and not overwhelmingly with too much carbon
I had one, in manual. In hindsight PDK would have been better as then you can use it as a daily, GT and sportscar, and it does all of them equally well. Amazing car.
this has nothing to do with the car but it's cool how it was raining in this video and you were in alabama and i'm watching from georgia (presumably the next day) in the rain 😭
More Porsche content please
This is the Cayman I want to own one day
Best car in the universe. Best interior. Best sound. Best form.
i always say this is the best Porsche for the price.
Great video 🤓!!! Last year in February 2023, I acquired my new 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 which has the 4L NA flat six cylinder engine (same unit as a GT4) and a PDK gearbox. Power output (394 bhp) and torque (317 lb-ft) are a nice match to this car's sensible curb weight (~3200 lbs). The color is Gentian Blue metallic with a black/chalk all-leather interior and silver wheel rims. It's definitely an entertaining driver's car!
So far, I've only done 452 miles but hopefully a lot more this coming Summer! The PDK is also a lot of fun (it's definitely quick) 🤓
All the best and thanks again from Colorado!
"Porsche...There is No Substitute!!!"
Congrats on that purchase. Mind me asking what you do and what cars led up to the Cayman?
@@j.3854
Sure, no worries ... regarding background, my career focused primarily on medical systems design (electronics emphasis). As far as previous P-Cars, my journey included a 1997 993 C4S, 1996 993 C4S, 1998 993 C2S, and 2013 981 Boxster S ... after experiencing rear-engine AWD and RWD along with mid-engine RWD layouts, I decided to go again with the later for overall balanced handling characteristics. However, any P-Car actually has a lot to offer and the choice is more a matter of personal preference ... Cheers!
@@danielpfister6774 that’s an awesome list of cars there. True enthusiast! Any plans for cool stablemates to the 4.0 GTS?
@@j.3854
Wow, tough question! There are lots of "temptations" which would include newer generation P-Cars such as the 992 GTSTouring, 992 Turbo S, 992 S/T along with several older models too. How about you, what are a few cars on the Wish List?
@@danielpfister6774 haha your GTS 4.0 is atop my list. Replacing the 00 NSX my family had when I was in college is up there. It’s one of my favorite cars I’ve driven. Pretty wild you can even consider those top tier 992’s. I’d have to close my 401k to buy an S/T haha
I wonder how it feels like at idle and low speeds 😅 heard those 4.0L shake like crazy when not being pushed?
Omega Speedmaster's an undeniably sick watch, but kind of a missed opportunity to borrow a Tag Heuer Carrera for your immersive Porsche experience. Wouldve been the perfect match for the trip.
If yall get one of these, definitely go for the soul performance opf delete. Helps bring that sound to life. Love the silver wheels on this though. I am constantly paranoid I am gonna scratch the black ones on my gts4.0.
I asked myself one question before I decided to buy the car: When is the next time I am going to be able to get a NA porsche for under a 100k? From there I was locked in. So many NA porsches are unobtainable nowadays.
Dream car 😍
Porsche do pipe in induction sound, not through speakers luckily. They use a valved symposer system.
Didn't have the exhaust note I was looking for, I decided to go for a similar car. I got a 2002 avalon XLS.
Intake noise goes crazy 👀
These are one of my favorites for its price. Amazing cars to drive. Only problem is speed limits. I still wish they put lower gears in them from factory.
That's why you go to DeMan motorsports
I had a massive stroke..the automatic is great.
How come the front tires are only P235? Same as my honda civic??
Hey quick question.
What’s the difference between the sports mode and the sports plus mode??
I have a 911 4s cabriolet but never used it.😅
Enjoyed the review. I live in Alabama, just outside Birmingham. What roads are these?? Always looking for good driving roads.
Now that you mention it, it totally reminds me of the Oak Mtn / Mountain Brook area
I want one of these cars soooo baaaaaaaad!!!
I remember these Cayman came with a 4 cylinder before. Have they put in the 6 cylinder in all GTS models in recent years? I might try and find a used one or just get a 991 911 instead if I can find a good one
Yes, the current GTS has a 4L N/A flat 6. The other trims are turbo-charged flat 4s.
Nice review, agree with you completely. But it is my only car:)
how do you rate this compared to z4 m40i. I know z4 cant match but is it worth 50k price difference than z4 for day to day normal driving?
i like this car
I know it is all about the ride experience but man, those dashes are still holding on tight to the dinosaur era! Time for Porsche to update their interiors to match the ticket price.
This would be a dream to daily, honestly
I prefer thos start up chime over the newer one
problem with a cayman is the volume, it's loud. Service Center lent me one while the Panamera was being serviced, and wow didn't expect the Cayman to be so loud inside. It's like being used to Opera and someone takes you to a KiSS concert, you're in for a shock. It's nice, sporty but not in the same league as its siblings.
personally prefer a gt4 (or my cayenne) but still beautiful
There are some caymans and boxsters from the early to mid teens going for reasonably affordable prices now given what they are. Its kind of tempting but if you take awhile to think about it, if anything major needs fixing maybe its not so affordable after all.
The 2.7 is kinda slow tbh lol
Good review. A golden age for performance cars is coming to an end. Witness the GT4 demise. Welcome to the post-pandemic, EV car 2020's.
In Australia I can have 5 GR86's or 1 Cayman in this spec. Love this flat 6 Cayman but it really illustrates the law of diminishing returns. Chris Harris called the GR86 the budget gt3 so what % of the 4.0 Cayman experience am I getting with a GR86?
Agree. I have a 718 spyder and a BRZ. For a daily fun driver raw not concerned with anything but shift heel, toe and throw around a corner, the GR86/BRZ meets 80% or more of what you need. I can’t really justify the 4.0 except for the panache
Thats interesting. If I can get 80% for 20% I will take it!
You are missing the Porsche experience though. Speed, sound, handling, precision, braking, fit and finish. The list goes on and on.
But a GR86 is a great bargain car reminiscent of the 80’s fun factor sports car. Definitely an iconic car for today.
I went RS3, which actually puts down more power on a dyno (401 whp) and imo sounds better
@@fzr1000981 I’ve got an RS3 too. Love it! Best daily car I’ve ever had.
I don’t mean to be rude but what is your job because I would love to be like you and just review sick cars.
Dude I'm so bummed about the weather
Quick question about your speedmaster. I have the same exact watch (hesalite version) and would like to upgrade my clasp. Did you have to replace the bracelet with the new bracelet as well? Or does the new clasp fit the old bracelet?
Everything comes as a kit from omega, just order that through an authorized dealer and you’ll be all set 👍 it’s the clasp and a couple different links/pins
These things are so incredibly expensive for what they are. Amazing car but starting just up 100k? Insane to me
Alabama has the best roads
Happy that at least the US drivers can still enjoy this car. All 718 models except the GT4 RS and the Boxter RS will not be sold in Europe come July. They also can no longer sell the Macan. Their successors will be all electric
Would love to have one but it's so expensive, and they won't make it anymore by the time I can afford one, so I won't be able to spec it the way I want 😬
Which would you buy with your own money, this or the Lotus Emira? I am torn between the two. Please help enlighten me.
Probably Lotus. It’s rare and raw. Only problem is getting one. People have been waiting for three years on list.
i like crayon with black carrera wheels
I can't believe how good the launch was in the rain. Probably those fat ass tires.
I came here for the Omega Speedmaster! haha
for 100 thousand the windshield wiper on right leaves the rain water almost in line of vision, that would drive me insane.
Are they rlly getting rid of Gt4s?
How the hell you get to the engine?
15:15 to 16:00 perfectly shows the issue with modern Porsche gearing. Can’t rev it out because you’ll go to jail and no need to downshift.
No face no case
@@That0neSRT speak for yourself
This or a Lotus Emira???
Wouldn't the steering wheel be just as good ergonomically if it wasn't carbon fiber? Did they change it at all?
Edit: Just found out the CF one is the non-GT wheel. That makes it huge. The GT one is smaller and a little less thick, also looks better. So no thank you on the CF wheel.
Cayman 4.0 is the best in za west
it sounds better than a spyder
Which one do you think is better Emira or this?
That’s a tough one.
Brain says Cayman, heart says Emira. Same boat here
The real question is, can you find an Emira. Many have been on waiting list for three years and still no car. I’m dying to drive one.
I wonder what the electric versions of these would turn out to look like
100k starting price for Cayman GTS is kinda crazy
a dream for 100 grand
Im confused now. They make gts with both 6 and 4 cylinders?
They used to make the 718 gts 4cyl and flat 6 now all the gts are 4.0
i asked about one they said they wanted 10% over msrp for an allocation and then later said they couldnt even get me one if i paid 100k over LMAO
Absolute travesty that the base 718 never came with a 6-cylinder. Cannot believe they are killing off the ICE cayman, absolutely ridiculous end for such legendary car
Holy Overpriced!!!
This or a used GT4? 🤔
Nice car, but I don't see spending over 100k on a Cayman when the mid-engine Corvette exists.
Unless you want a manual, which is why I passed up the impressive C8 and ordered a Cayman. The C8 is an amazing value, but the nuance of Porsche engineering and quality is evident.
Corvette? lololololololololol, yeah, drive your Corvette))
@@Watankatanka What's so funny about a Corvette?
Well, a Corvette is not funny but comparing it to a Porsche is very much so))@@kenhiett5266
Once you drive a corvette after a GTS, you will not want the corvette. Many have sold the vette and got a GTS or GT4.
Corvette is a great GT car for cruising. It’s huge in comparison and not as special neither.
Corvette is priced accordingly for what it is. It’s worth no more than 80k. A GTS is worth 100k.
You need to drive them both to see for yourself. It’s a must.
Corvette is a fun car. Porsche is super fun and very special. Plus Porsche build quality is amazing. Corvette is just good in comparison.
For some reason the style doesn’t do it for me. Can’t deny its one of the greatest machines of the ICE era tho. Can’t blame anyone for getting it if they can deal w/ the price and the interior volume.
RS3 would beat it in these conditions easily and would be right there in the dry for 1/2 the price.
4:23 bro why isnt the watch working? Or am i Mistaken ?
It's a chronograph, the second hand only ticks when you hit the button.
Ohh, I get it now.
Too bad that Porsche is no longer building the non-RS models as of a couple weeks ago, now setting up factory tooling for 718 EV ;/
You know the saying 'looks like a million bucks'? Well, this certainly doesn't look like a $120k car. I'm certain it's fun to drive, but sheesh. At least it DOES sound like a proper Porsche.
Beautiful car, if ICE engines are still around Id love one for my mid life crisis.
This or that supercharged v6 lotus?
Lotus is you can get one. Long waiting list for years.
