NEW SHELBY GT500 First Drive and 10.7s 1/4 Mile Drag Strip!

- My first drive in my future car, the new Shelby GT500! To fully experience the most powerful Ford ever, we can take in a mountain road, go flat out for a 10.7s 1.4 mile drag strip run, and throw in some time on track as well as hot laps with Billy Johnson.
The Shelby GT500 packs a 5.2l supercharged V8 making 760bhp, making it the most powerful Ford ever and over 100hp more than the Ford GT. Attending the launch event in Las Vegas gives an opportunity to see my Ford GT with its future garage stablemate in every possible colour specification and option. However, today it's all about the drive and seeing what the new car is like in all different types of environments.
First up comes a run out to Mt Charleston with the GT500, to discover it on the road with some twisty mountain passes surrounded by plenty of other cars driving around. Then it's back to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for an outing on the Drag Strip and a chance to try to match the 10.7s quoted 1/4 mile time; successfully! For the third part of the day we're on track at the Motor Speedway where the car honestly impressed with unbelievable amounts of grip and performance. To top it off, the day concludes with a hot lap onboard with Billy Johnson to see what it can really do, plus some immense sideways action!
The drive leaves me very excited to collect my Shelby GT500 next year! As soon as I have more news I will bring you updates on specification and timings, plus the plans for touring the USA and eventually bringing it back home to the UK.

I can't wait for my new Shelby GT500 to arrive in the garage! While we're waiting though, let's have a first drive on the road, racetrack and also putting down the times at the 1/4 mile drag to see just what this car can do. There's no shortage of noise, smoking tyres, and sliding around along the way...

TBH Tim, I can see you driving long road trips with your GT500 up and down Europe. It has plenty of power, storage space & the rarity of it on European roads.
FYI your reaction time doesn’t effect your time down the strip. You could of Waited 30 sec and it would still be 11.3
Us Americans and our drag racing (13:10)! The time slips are confusing, but ET is "Elapsed Time" and does not include reaction time, it's purely the time from start to stop, when the beam connects at the front of the drag strip. R/T is in addition to ET for the total time (which would be the number you would use if you were competing side-by-side). And in the essence of talking trash on TH-cam, I got an 11.2 ET. 😎Well done Tim! Under 11.4 seemed to be pretty solid for the group!
Fun fact: a horse can have up to 15hp actually

This has changed my entire perspective of horsepower.
Christian D this basically means that my 328i has up to 3,450hp
Horse power is measured by the power of a horse in a day...... That's means if the horse fully use all the energy in him in a short amount of time it can definitely be above 10hp
people think that a horse running in the max speed is 1hp only but it is not

As it is now,most channels are boy racer channels with no info on the motor.

Your reaction time has ZERO affect on your elapsed time.
Yeah you don't subtract RT from ET like he did - his time was 11.3 not 10.7

Shmee150 if the manufacturer said it went 10.7 that’s because someone’s timeslip said so. That’s excluding the reaction time
I'm no spring chicken, and I can tell you, this is for sure one of the sweetest sounding V8 engines / exhaust combinations I have ever heard. No stupid amounts of obnoxious pops and bangs that less refined exhausts seem to over do these days... it is awesome.
You can tell a car is from america when it gives you the option "dragstrip mode" instead of launch control. lol
There's a dragstrip mode and also a separate launch control feature, but point is still relatively valid
During track mode the car also puts launch control on as well.
Before everyone goes mental on my comment, I'm fully aware of that there is separate launch control feature as well. It's just a stereotypical thing for america to come up with such a thing ;)

I just watched Jay Leno’s video with the GT500 and they took a all black with the carbon pack to his garage and it looked really good

Tim, you don't subtract the reaction time. The time is calculated from the time the car starts moving, not when the light turns green. This is why you can have guys with slower elapsed times still win heads up races when they have better reaction times.

The engine is hand-built at Fords Romeo engine plant.
The car is assembled at Ford's Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan.

@@grumpusmaximus9446 I think Shelby does tuning and does small iterations to improve performance. They'll literally tell you themselves. In fact, a video that StangMode uploaded while at Shelby American has a worker saying it.

Power-wise, yes. It doesn't seem to handle *quite* as cleanly as the GT350R, but it's a very impressive overall package. Ford seriously stepped up their game with this generation and turned it into a full-on respetable sports car.
Yeah the handling is the only bad thing about it and I have no other complaints

No but i looked into some videos and the turning is a little oversteer tbh from what I could tell
HYPERCAR GAMING should form your own opinion after driving it yourself and not going off a video or two that has only been out for one or two days. I’m sure the GT driver wasn’t going to trash the handling taking out Tim on some laps, but it didn’t look like he was all over the place on some laps
